Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 3/13

Good evening ladies!

No workout today. Feeling better but still so tired.

Judy...Oh poor Chris! Hoping the meds work and he is feeling better soon. I attached the video clip I made up from our 1994 trip. The Blarney Stone is actually part of a wall on top of the Blarney Castle. The clip is only 45 seconds. Funny to see me with my natural hair color! I started going red shortly after this trip.

Deb...there are some clips of the workouts over at VF so that is what everyone was chatting about. I like Autumn. There is chatter though how she is young and that is all BB wants to use now...phasing out Chalene because of her age and so on. That is kind of sad if that is the truth. If society thinks of Chalene too old God help us!

Josie...I needed a nap after reading all your workouts. Enjoy the peanuts!!!

Lynda...I love using the ball to work my hamstrings. So hard but so good! SB has a recent target that I love.

Diane Sue...our yellow lab, Chester is a big boy. At one point he was 109 lbs but getting old now and right now has settled in at about 93 lbs. Of all the dogs I have owned he has the most personality for sure. Great cardio workouts today.

Hi to Valerie!

No plan for the weekend. Talk of a Nor'easter hitting on Sunday. Last time I heard up to a foot of Snow. Not sure if this has changed.

Lori, I can't imagine them thinking Chalene is too old. What about Tony then? I would not have pictured the Blarney Stone being like that. The old castles and stuff are so interesting. Thanks for sharing the video. When my Dad was in the military we lived in England for 3 and a half years. I was 10 when we came home but, I have lots of memories there. The London Bridge that is now in Arizona was still there. I would like to go back again to visit.
Gertie is only 78 lbs. I guess a female would generally be a bit smaller. My daughters Lab is over 90 pounds. Her name is Hershey. They have Hershey and Graham is their 8 month old Golden Retriever. Now they just need a marshmallow :)

Good morning,

Yesterday I did ICE Low Impact Sweat, Cardio #1 only no core. I was happy to get through that much.

Judy, glad Chris went back to Urgent Care and they gave him something. Hope this helps. Maybe you should start on that zinc stuff. Yes, I would modify some of KCM moves....the "unconventional" ones. I put this one in my "Wish List" I think I will get it. It's the only 18 pound one available....and the price is the lowest I can find. Let me know if you find another one on line for less. I found one seller that actually had it for $45 with free shipping....others did not.... I wonder how they ship it? I can always add something to the order to bring it up, maybe the yoga mat that I want.

Josie, great job on the workouts! Which Peanuts are you getting? Lots of fun things planned for them? A veggie pizza sounds delicious, I need to keep that in mind. Thanks!

Lynda, I think you were brave to do that workout....just the name scared me away. :). You will have to let me know how you like Bosch. I am in a "lull" with things to watch...no more DA...no more Philly, no more Fraser, I am looking forward to Grantchester. I watch Blue Bloods and of course The Good Wife, but they aren't on every week....they seem to take a lot of time off.

Diane Sue, great workouts! I hope your granddaughter is better....that is scary. I do the same with those KCM pullovers....they look too chancy for me...I was looking at the "half-inch" mat on Amazon...is that better than the thinner ones? I have never had a yoga mat before, or even used one anywhere. LOL on Hershey, Graham and the next puppy, "Marshmellow"...

Lori, that clip was great! Was that your son with you? Do you think BB is really going with Autumn because of her youthful appearance? That would be sad. We are supposed to get snow tomorrow too. I hope they are wrong.

Hi to travelling Valerie,

Agility class this morning, then HouseMax for me,

Take care,

Good morning!

I feel almost human this morning! Going to try out Cathe's newest Live Metabolic and see how far I get. I have been dying to do this one. Has no high impact moves so hoping all goes well for my first full workout.

Glad you liked the clip. Most people do not realize what the stone actually is. Deb...this was in 1994 and that hairy man is my brother. Funny to see his dark hair now as he has since gone completely white. He was the one recently that beat pancreatic cancer. :) The two of us took my mom to Ireland. She was terminally ill and wanted to see Ireland. Was a very bittersweet trip. Looking back though I always smile at these clips.

Looks like the snow will be uneventful here! Yeah!

Have a great weeknd all!

It is cold today. I need to go cover my roses and Hydrangea because it is supposed to freeze tonight. Next week it will get back up to the 80s and drop again with another chance for a freeze. Today I did Cathe Live Buns, Barre, and Ball 49 minutes, 249 calories. I didn't expect the calorie burn to be that high but I think it is correct by perceived exertion. Anyway, it kept showing my HR from anywhere around 59 to 64. I even tried stopping Bluetooth and rinsing it and retrying. My resting HR is generally around 55. Maybe it was correct. I liked the workout. I got a good burn without weights :) I then wanted some cardio and put in Boxing and Leg Blasts live, and did quite a bit of it. I did the w/up and boxing that lasted till 33 minutes then started with weights work cardio blasts alternated with legs. I did the snowboard cardio with squats at 15's that is done twice stopped at the next cardio blast that was lateral hops with a tuck, I forwarded to find the stretch and ended up doing the final move of deadlifts with 15's (Cathe had a 15 and 12 in her hands) and did the stretch. This was 42 minutes and my HR was 117/147 so maybe the monitor was working? 265 calories. I finished off with a Fitness Blender compound cooldown stretch that was nice 7 minutes, 18 calories. Total workout time was 97 minutes and calories burned 532.

I discovered last night that all along both shoulders and lats up into the neck it was literally feeling sore when I would put pressure on it. I did some foam rolling and it made a huge difference. Later I was just surprised how much better it was. This morning it was fine when I got up. So, I am thinking mobility, stretching, and rolling may be the key to getting past this because the injury probably has made everything tight. I thought I would give the boxing a go today and limit weights to see how I do.
Talking about veggies, I made a recipe today post workout from my Whole 30 cookbook that was yummy. It was Brussels sprouts, butternut squash and onions pan roasted in olive oil with some sage, nutmeg, salt and pepper. I fried an egg in the skillet too and tossed it on top. They suggest to make it a meal you could add chicken to it . Sitting here watching Dancing with Wolves with my husband. We have also been going through the Farscape series. I am not one to sit without doing something though.

Deb, those bars are pricey. I have 11 #. I always wanted an 18# one like Amy Bento Ross had on some of her workouts. It seems my 11 # one is used mostly for a balance stick. But it is great for the Kimberly Spreen Combat sections of her workouts. I haven't done them in forever. I am thinking I would like a mat that is at least a quarter inch thick. My Nike one is very thin.

Lora, I hope the workout goes well for you. I am glad to hear you are feeling much better. That workout may be one I would like if it doesn't have all of the impact in it. That is wonderful that your brother beat the cancer. I know how you feel about the bitter sweet feeling. My mother was terminal for several years and we did some sight seeing and my daughters got to go to Nebraska and spend time with her when she couldn't move around herself. She had ALS. She has been gone for a very long time. But the memories of our time together are sweet.
