Good morning,

Did everyone remember to turn your clocks ahead? We forgot, until we got up. I think it's better that way, it doesn't seem like that hour was lost like it does when you do it at bedtime. We saw the play The City of Conversation yesterday, another political play taking place in Washington. The theater was a little empty....I don't think people want to see plays about politics, they get too much in real life. It was good, acting etc.

Judy, I have that KCM workout, I never tried the combined premix, I think I will do it this week for my total body day. I will go over and see that 2016 rotation as well. Did you see she is now having a "road trip" like Cathe does? I don't think she calls it that though. Also, maybe streaming? She is really getting on the bandwagon with things. I like her a lot. That is a good eating plan. I never heard of that clinic at CVS....how do they check your cholesterol? Do they do blood work? with fasting 12 hours etc? What I need to do is add vegetables to my diet, I definitely do not get enough.

Josie, saw it was Diane Sue that mentioned the aloe vera juice...mmm...your parents drank it...I wonder why? That is interesting. I need to Google that and see what's out there on that...I hope you are able to talk with your friend soon. Do they say how much longer she will be in the hospital? I'm sure she will need a lot of help when she gets out. Does she live close to you?

Valerie, I think it's great that you eat a lot of veggies, how do you do that? I find it so hard to include them in my diet, they are the last "thing" I reach for...or not. Do you just cook up a bunch and have them handy or eat raw? The reason I make the dog's food is because Keegan had stones removed and he needs to be on a low calcium oxalate diet...I wonder if they have that over at that site Judy uses....will have to check, although we have been pretty lucky with the diet I do, no recurrence of stones, and the recurrence rate in dogs is 50%...:(. I also have to make a vitamin/mineral mix to add to the food each meal, as the cooked food is lacking in those if you don't.

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on Aloe Vera....mmm...I take it you have to mix it because of the taste? you are lucky that you can fast forward the Live workouts....can't do that with the Chromecast. I can only "pause"...Thanks for the link to the food...saw it gets good reviews. What kind of casseroles do you make that you wish your husband would eat?

Lori, how are you feeling? better I hope.

Hi Lynda,

A workout, Housemax, then going see my nephew, who has a role in Mary Poppins over at the local college...that should be fun.

Take care,

Good morning ladies! Starting to feel better this morning. Things started to turn last night. Throat feels great but sinuses are still stuffy. Can't remember ever having a cold setting me back like this. This was really bad. Every one at work has been really sick so between flying with my sick son and work. I knew I was done in!

I have not worked out in a week! Yikes! Today I am going to do some barre and see how things go.

Looks like everyone has been doing some great workouts. The last two Live workouts look really good and can't wait to try them out. What do you all think of Cathe's Announcement? I am thinking it is a new designed tower. I am very curious.

Deb...in addition to Retin A I use a Vitamin C serum. These 2 are amazing for your skin.

Lynda...hope you are enjoying Boston. Great weather for you!

Judy..glad your DH is better. I did not have the flu but this cold was pretty nasty. Shadow is sooo cute! I usually only eat egg whites. I love eggs so this was hard for me at first but I have adjusted.

Josie.how is your friend?

Diane Sue...reading your posts have really motivated me to try and workout today. I love all the variety you do. I am not a fan of Step if it is choreographed. I like atheltic moves and blast..nothing dancy. I then become 2 left feet.

Valerie...I hate going to a cosemtic area in like Macy's or other anchor store. I feel they will sell you anything just to make a sale. I prefer to research on my own then buy. So far I am happy with my choices. So the extra padding is working on the rack? They would be great if yes.

Madeline received her test results and all is great. All the spots/tumors have reduced considerably! This is amazing giving how grim her diagnoses was. She will stay on the chemo pill as long as it continues to work. We are all very happy. :)

Have a great Sunday all!

Today is a rest day. I finally broke down and took a muscle relaxer tablet and a Meloxicam (generic Mobic) before I went to bed along with a heat wrap. I slept 9 hours which is not normal for me. I hate the drowsy feeling in the morning. I still feel the neck after being up for awhile. I was hoping it would help it improve. I figured maybe I should try some of the medicine before I call the doctor again. As for eggs, if I am going to eat just egg whites I buy cheap eggs. I hate paying for free range eggs and throwing the yolks out. My daughter bought me a dozen eggs Thursday from her chickens and I made an omelet for my dinner. They just got a bunch of baby chicks to add to the ones they have. A variety that lay more eggs since they decided that they were going to use them more for eggs because after trying to eat the chickens they didn't care for it at all,

Deb, I forwarded some of my clocks last night. I didn't want to be thrown off when I looked at them this morning:) You don't have to mix aloe vera juice with anything. It doesn't have much taste. Since I use 2-4 oz at a time I choose to mix it with at least some water and sometimes I will throw the greens powder in. Juice is a nice way to drink it though. It isort of thick so I think it is better at least diluted. That is interesting that you can't forward on Chromcast. I think I have seen my husband forward stuff on the Roku. I may be wrong though or it was because of the programming that he was watching. Or it was Amazon Prime Video or Netflix. That would bother me. As far as casseroles for my husband it would be ones with vegetables and chunks of vegetables. He won't eat pizza if the sauce has chunks of tomatoes on it. I made one of my favorite Paleo soup recipes yesterday from Paleo Slow Cooker. It is taco soup (no tacos ;) ) I use grass fed beef or bison in it. The recipe makes a lot so I made half it and froze some for later . I love soups because I can make them thick with veggies and goodies and have meals ready when I don't feel like cooking two different meals.

Lori, I don't mind some choreography with things like cha cha turns and stuff but I do not like it when it is so hard I am falling all over the step and find myself on the wrong side when they are doing spins and turns. So far I have not had difficulty with Cathe's live workouts because they are very similar to the ones on the discs. Sometimes she messes up and stops or when she starts walking around some of the class members stop or try to just keep going ( I keep going doing some of the moves) till Cathe gets it straightened out. It doesn't bother me and is kind of funny. Thanks on the workouts. If I could I would be putting in a lot more variety than I am right now.

Deb, I don't like ALL vegies. I use mostly fresh, in season. we grow a lot of our own which is a motivator. vegies are often the whole "meal". Love salads, make my own dressing. we have a salad almost every night, plus at least one other vegetable. Many of us grew up on overcooked, badly seasoned vegies & never learned to cook them properly. I started by picking a new vegetable to try, and cooking it several ways until I found something I liked. then I'd move to another. I am constantly on watch for new flavors and ways to use them. I was exclusively vegetarian for about 25 years. Even now that I eat some chicken and fish, I still make the vegies important. there's so much variety, whereas I always thought meat based diets were boring and everything tasted the same. Start with whatever vegies you like and try them in new ways. right now I'm planning on getting a spiralizer and testing it out. I don't like root vegetables too much, like rutabagas, turnips. Lots of interesting kale recipes lately. I pick a vegie, find a recipe that sounds good and give it a whirl. after fresh, frozen is next. canned vegies rarely. too salty and mushy. we had a great year for butternut and hubbard squash ... ate at least 20 butternuts and several hubbards since last fall. roasted, soup, lots of ways. the butternuts were so good. you can't do anything simpler than tossing with olive oil and roasting.

Lori glad to hear you back on your feet. great news about Madeline. we think the extra padding will keep the bikes from jiggling back and forth. still does not explain what happened to my shifter so we are hoping it was a one time, oddball event. good luck on whatever workout you pick today.
I may be out of touch for a bit. we have a windstorm later today that sounds like a potential power out.

Valerie roasted fresh veggies are the best. I like doing it like you or sprinkling with avocado oil and some rosemary and garlic. I bought some rainbow beets the other day and roasted them. They are so good.

Diane sue, I've learned to like beets too. I've been buying some .... Melissa's. they are cooked in white wine and balsamic vinegar . I really like them! I may try roasting them too. I've had issues with them being too sweet. the vinegar cuts the sweetness to me.

Valerie I don't like a lot of sweet stuff either. Growing up I always loved them with salt, pepper, and butter. I like them on my salads. The yellow and white varieties are not quite as sweet. I eat everything with Lots of pepper, including squash and sweet potatoes. I have some favorite sauces that I like to use with veggies. I finished off my roasted beets today with some of the lemon garlic sauce from Autumn's Fixate cooknook. Great snack . :)

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live HIIT Legs....I think it was a little harder than I remember the DVD being. My nephew was in Mary Poppins yesterday, his high school put it on. It was good, but way too long.

Lori, you have the "100 Day Cold/Cough". Everyone is talking about it here. I hope you are on the upside of it now. I actually hope her announcement is some sort of equipment. I didn't want her to be doing another DVD series, too soon after ICE. Great news about Madeline! :).

Diane Sue, I think it was smart to take a rest day. You may want to consider more than one day. Your post is making me want to make a good soup in the slow cooker. What other vegetables to you roast besides beets? That sounds delicious. John won't eat beets, and I am not a fan either.

Valerie, hope you didn't get a power outage. funny about the vegetables we grew up on. I don't think we had fresh vegetables until I was on my own. My Mom used canned all the time. Funny because her father grew all kinds of vegetables in his yard and ate them all the time, you would think she would want fresh ones. The only ones I can tolerate now are peas, and that is at other people's houses. I would never buy then for home. I don't mind some of the frozen veg variety bags. I like the ones at Trader Joe's. Let me know what you think of the spiralizer if you get one. I was intrigued, making spaghetti out of zucchini sounds interesting.

Lynda, how was Boston?

Hi Josie & Judy,

Not much going on here...mani/pedi this morning, helping my cousin in her office for a bit, then class later tonight...

Take care,

Good morning... we DID have the power go out briefly a couple times. then the phone/internet went down. overall, we came thru OK. it was a very intense storm and left a lot of damage. our trip is on schedule.

Deb, you need to eat your veges! Canned stuff is too mushy, too salty.
Try roasting butternut squash or cauliflower. very easy and very good. you can often get either precut. we ate all our home grown squash, so for the first time I bought some precut from Costco, and it was very good. The pieces should be similar in size. pour into a bowl, toss with a little olive oil and a sprinkle of salt. roast at 400-425 on a cookie sheet. I put a sheet of parchment paper on the pan so I don't need to wash it. might need to stir them once or twice so the roast evenly. Depending on size of the chunks and how brown you like, 20-30 minutes.
you can do brussell sprouts, broccoli, and sweet potatoes similarly.

try sautéing on the stovetop. sliced onion, sliced red bell pepper, and frozen corn. use a little olive oil. I find the simplest prep is usually best. I'm going to try beets like diane sue mentioned.
My mother always made things too sweet or in cream sauce, or sweet sour. I don't like any of those and find simpler is better. my mother used to sweeten winter squash and sweet potatoes to the point of syrup. absolutely sickening. I was absolutely stunned at how good plain roasted acorn squash was without a load of brown sugar and butter. I love zucchini. I love broccoli and broccoli raab but home grown is so good that store bought is hardly worth buying. I'm a pretty adventurous cook.

I did a mile on the treadmill yesterday, then therapy moves meshed into most of LBB and core 1. a good workout. I should be able to do anything now.

Hi everyone--

This morning was Metabolic Mishmash Live again (51:00). I had a hard time getting up now that it's dark again in the morning.

Boston was beautiful this weekend--in the 60s and sunny. We stayed in a hotel down by the harbor--the Envoy. Very new and modern. Not sure all of it works in terms of architectural thought, but a nice place to stay. Boston has great food--especially seafood for me, oysters, lobster, mussels, clams. Yum! We also enjoyed the MFA and ICA museums and spent time there as well as the harbor walk, spending time with our younger son. We went out with him and his woman friend on Friday to Strega's. Really good Italian food where I had zuppa a pesci--fish soup with a lot of lobster, shrimp, mussels. So good!

Diane Sue, I agree about eggs. If you buy really good eggs from free range hens, it would be a shame to throw out the yolks. I guess you can't go back to the doctor without at least trying the drugs prescribed.

Deb, we have a salad of some kind every night, and I often do another veggie with dinner. Valerie has some great ideas for you.

Lori, that is great news about Madeline. Good that you are feeling better too.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Today I did a spin bike workout, Cathe Live Pedal to the Metal, 47 minutes, 397 calories. This one really got the heart rate up with some tabatas and heavy stuff. My legs were tired by the end. I finished off with Stretch Max with the band.
Yesterday, I slept a lot. I sat in one of the reclining seats on our sofa with my feet propped up on a pillow to take the pressure off the spine. I spent a lot of the day like that. I kept dozing and taking little naps. I decided to try the medication a bit before I call the doctor. I took 1 of the muscle relaxers on Friday night along with one of the 24 hour tablets she gave me fo inflammation, Both cause drowsiness so I was pretty out of it because I react to that stuff a lot. So, last night I took half a muscle relaxer and some Advil.

Deb, I am trying to rethink how or if I workout because I am seeing that I may be able to kick this thing. When I do the cycle workouts I don't seem to have a problem so that is why I chose that and a more gentle stretch. I like to roast asparagus, green beans, mushrooms, onions, beets, sweet potatoes, any kind of squash, (summer or winter). Sometimes I throw several things on the baking sheet, with the parchment paper like Valerie mentioned, and olive or avocado oil with some seasoning like rosemary, thyme, whatever suits me. There is very little nutrition in canned vegetables. I grew up with family gardens, my Dad was still planting his garden after he was in his 80's.

Valerie, I remember the old Harvard beet recipe. I never liked that one at all. My mother didn't go overboard on sweets additions though. I think she did not have a big taste for it. I guess I learned from her. I like pepper on my cantaloupe . I forgot to mention the peppers added to roasting. Also it is nice to throw it all in a cast iron skillet or stir it around a bit. I have discovered a love for parsnips that I spiralize and cook in some coconut oil. I make them small and use them as crisps to top a beef or turkey burger. I spiralize summer squash a lot. We had some storms but no power outages. Now today they say it will be 85 but not to plant because we may still have a frost in the future. So weird. My son came and caulked the roof as best as he could on the florida room so luckily we only had a couple of drips this time. That room scares me when the hail and heavy rains hit.

Well my feeling better was short lived. I am all stuffed up and coughing again. Deb...i have not heard of the 100 day cold but I am really hoping I do not have this for that long. I am at work and hope to be leaving shortly. Never got to workout yesterday because I was dizzy and nauseas. :(

oh Lori.... time to back off and make sure you're really over this. the workouts will be there when you feel better. I just read that the flu is finally being reported in significant #'s across the country, later than usual. whatever it is you have, rest, stay warm, lots of fluids.

Diane sue, I'm thinking about a spiralizer. I came across a recipe for spiralized sweet potatoes and thought it sounded interesting. I knew about zucchini but parsnips are a new one to me. spiralizers aren't that expensive. Do you recommend it as a useful gadget? I use my food processor and a box grater for shredding all the time, wondering how much I'd use a spiralizer.

Deb, start small with a one or two things you think you & John will like. never much of a breakthrough unless you both enjoy it.

Did therapy exercises, part of LBB, 1 mile on treadmill, and part of one of the metabolic ice ones. Had to turn it off and start over because of the volume of the sound track music. UGH. I can't hear Cathe at all. the volume goes from barely audible to "over loud" in one click. maybe it's my DVD player but I'm very disappointed in this series. the sound level is horrible. I had to go back to the beginning and turn it off. plus the "music" was off key and had no beat. thought it was ok to begin with, but that didn't last very long.

Lori, I am so sorry that you are feeling so bad. I hope you get better soon.

Lynda, I guess I missed your post since it was about the same time I was on here. It sounds like you had a wonderful time. I love good seafood. You don't find that too much here in Oklahoma.

Valerie, I would use my spiralizer more if it was something I could keep out on the counter. I have a Padermo spiralizer. I keep in in it's box on a shelf in my laundry cabinet because of cabinet space. I keep my Cuisinart food processor and case with blades on the counter. The spiralizer I have makes 3 sizes of noodle shapes, one flat, one medium wide and then very fine spaghetti size. I have used it with potatoes before and fried them in coconut oil for my grandson and husband. I don't eat regular potatoes myself. I see there is a bigger selection since I bought mine. Even an attachment for my Kitchenaid stand mixer. Although that is 98 dollars. The one I have seems like it wastes a bit of the veggies. It makes a long tube like thing coming through the core area of the vegetable. Also if the vegetable is very small it sometimes does not want to stay in place when I am turning the handle. Oh, and I have also made a cucumber salad with the spiralizer that had an Italian type dressing and olives in it.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did a "Walk Fit" workout on the treadmill. Did not want to do one of the Live HIIT cardio workouts, way too much after the Sunday Leg HIIT. Today will be an upper body, maybe the Barbell Upper Body one. That was a good one, and "equipment friendly" if I remember it right.

Valerie, that is why I want to get some ideas on how to add more vegs into my diet....an no, we do not eat any canned vegetables at all....John would have a fit if he saw a canned vegetable. He grew up with frozen or fresh. Your roasting method sounds easy and good. Do you roast zucchini? We love butternut squash, I buy a half bushel and cook one every once in a while. Also eat it plain, with nothing....so good.

Lynda, nice trip! I bet Max was happy to see you both back.

Diane Sue, mmmm...the Spirializer may not be so great afterall.....All I saw was someone using it with zucchini. I hear you on the storage of all the gadgets there are available. I have a lot of stuff in the basement and I don't even remember I have them.

Lori, oh no! I hope you feel better....no workouts and a LOT of REST!

Valerie, Thanks for all the veggie cooking tips....I am going to try them and see if this will help us eat more. I really think you should try a new DVD player.......which workout had no beat? That is strange...it sounds like the bass is gone from your player or something.

Hi to Judy & Josie,

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning was Live Gloved and Ready (50 min.) with 1 lb. gloves. If you are looking for a boxing workout that has tabatas and blasts that get your heartbeat up, plus a little bit of metabolic weights, this one is for you. I really like it.

Deb, Ina Garten has some great recipes in her Back to Basics cookbook for roasted vegetable mixes--there is one for asparagus, fennel, string beans and fingerling potatoes tossed with olive oil that is especially good. Another one for butternut squash, another for broccoli and parmesan, another for plum tomatoes with basil, etc. etc. really good cookbook generally. Epicurious also has a zucchini and basil soup recipe that is remarkably creamy even though you just use water--very low calorie and deceptively rich. Max was thrilled to be home again surveying his domain. I swear to god, there is nothing like the greeting you get from a dog that loves you when coming home in the evening. He always watches for my car and does this big runaround race before homing in on me as I park.

Lori, when we were in Boston, our son said it seemed like half the city had the flu, and even though his woman friend had her flu shot, she got it anyway. If you are running a fever, you probably shouldn't be working and maybe it's the flu, not just a cold.

Valerie, that must be very frustrating with your dvds. Not a thing wrong with mine. Could be your player, but maybe try an old dvd that never had problems and if it does now, then the player might be the issue. If not, I would contact customer service again.

Diane Sue, my sister who lived in Bartlesville always complained about the lack of seafood. Growing up in Minnesota, I didn't know what I was missing until I moved east.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Today I did Cathe Live Legs and Glutes 56 minutes, 317 calories. I followed this with a youtube yoga channel that was for neck pain, 20 minutes. That is it for today.

The workout format was somewhat different than the original legs and glutes. There are cardio blasts mingled throughout. She uses mostly 3 risers on the high step and on one cardio she lowers to 2. 12 and 15# dumbbells are used. Mostly the 15# ones. I am sure some of you have done these workouts.
w.u and a short cardio of forward and backward jacks a rest and the second set is just forward backward minus the jacks. This is forward and back with the step in between.
leg press 16 reps right then left then repeat 15# dumbbell
Hover squats with 15# dumbbell
1st cardio tap knee tap over then 5 singles using the high step with 3 risers
plie squats side to side with 12# dumbbells and low ends added
elevated lunge 12# singles and has pulses
cardio blast power turn squats with the high step 4 sets alternating starting side with a step turn to position next start side
uneven drop squats 15# dumbbell singles and pulses
12# dumbbells pulse lunge back knee up pulses on singles
cardio with high step straddle step knee with 2 risers on step
Put 3 risers back on step
cross back lunge singles and pulses
genie on step with arms folded all right then all left 2x each side
forward back lunge then 5 power lunge switching sides
get out mat, pole, and step
mat and pole calf raises
use pole for standing side leg lifts
hold bar out in front arms straight and do side to side leg lifts. ( I did not hold the bar out in front)
Standing using pole for balance front leg lifts
Floor with mat and step topper glute press

Deb, I always find it best to separate Hiit legs and cardio with a lot of plyometrics and impact. It makes my knees hurt. Smart choice. I got rid of a lot of gadgets that were collecting dust. Although my bread machine and two ice cream freezers are in the garage just in case. I could use a basement ;) When my dad passed away we went through stuff and their basement was loaded with stuff for canning and several crockpots, can openers, pans, and just loads of stuff. We have been getting rid of stuff so some day our kids do not have to deal with it.

Lynda, I remember getting some good seafood in California and Texas when we lived in those areas. The best fish I get here is frozen from Schwan's . It does feel good to have a pet that is so in love with you. They are so easy to love back. We had a dog when I was in first grade that stands out to me because she would sit at the top of the hill and wait for the school bus when I came home. She would run to greet me. We lived in the desert then. Gertie just sits at the end of the counter and waits for us to come in. Yesterday she wasn't there when we came back from dinner. It ended up my husband had let her out and I saw the door was unlocked and locked it and we left. I thought she was in. We were calling and she started whimpering at the door. My husband says he wonders if she realizes she is a dog and some dogs live outside. She went to her crate to pout and look at us. Of course I had to coax her out to play ball for a bit. She cheered up soon enough.

Good evening ladies!

Well still no workout. Can't remember ever going this long but it is what it is. Still feeling lousy but better then yesterday so that is good. I do not have a fever at all so glad that it is not the flu. My nose is raw at this point and hurts on top of feeling so bad! Enough already! I have been at work this week but staying in the mailroom and everyone knows to stay away.

Looks like every one has been doing great with their workouts.

Lynda...sounds like a very nice trip to Boston. Agree Glove Up is an awesome workout! I love walking in the doot at night. My two doggies are always so happy and excited to see me. It is the best!

Diane Sue...I love my bread machine. I bought it in 1994 and it looks like R2D2 from Starwars and it still runs great. I love setting the timer waking up to the smell of fresh cooked bread on a cold weekend morning.

Valerie...you had me at Spiralized sweet potatoes. Now I want one.

Deb...I am loving that you are liking Cathe Live!! Did you find the search button for the live workouts?

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Off to bed...have a good night all!

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live Barbell Upper Body. This has become my favorite upper body workout. I have to use 2 BB's and a Body Bar, but that is ok since I have them already preset. I use a 30, 20 and 15. I have doms already in my chest and triceps.

Lynda, thanks for the info on that workout, I will put it on my list...could it be considered a total body for the weight part, or more cardio centered? Thanks for the tips on recipes. Yesterday I made Skinny Chicken & Brocoli. It came out really well. I guess they call it "skinny" because nothing is fried. Not sure. Our dogs start bark at the door when they hear our cars go into the garage, or if we park them, when we do the lock.

Diane Sue, how do you remember all the exercises of a workout in order like that? Same as you, I do not like to do legs and any impact two days in a row. Even Hiit on the treadmill after a leg day is tough, but sometimes I have to. That is why the ICE or the Hit It series is good with those low impact cardio workouts. We have a bread machine and ice cream maker too.....both are in the basement right now, with the waffle maker, wok, and other "hardly used" things. I like my bread machine, and used to make bread every week, but stopped so down to the basement it went. Is the end of the counter where the treats are kept? I bet you were pretty scared when Gertie didn't come when you got home. Was she in a fenced in yard while you wee gone?

Lori, that is awful...I hope it goes away soon. Glad it's not a flu. Do the Lunch Ladies continue to work out if you are not there? No, the new search button does not come up with my phone version of Live. I think once I signed in with the older version, on Chrome it just keeps coming up that way. I think if I went to Chrome and started all over, keyed in the IP address with the back slash etc it would come up with the new screen. It's ok though because I'd rather just use your great PDF and type in what I want. :).

Hi to Josie & Judy,

A workout, and Kylee's agility class later, then a very contentious dog club meeting....it's nomination night for board and officer positions....this should be interesting. Ugh....I really don't want to go...

Take care,
