Pentagenarians & Beyond: w/b 3/1

Good Morning,

Today I did Step Boss PHA 3, time saver premix. " Second half only" 35 minutes 219 calories. Sorry to be MIA this week. Things just got away from me. Kylee's new meds apparently were too low of a dose. After 2 days on them, she started having accidents again. I called the vet, and he said to double the dose, from 1 a day to 2 a day. I guess it's a little "hit or miss" until its the right dose. No accidents or leaking since the increase.

Valerie, Moving 2700 pounds of bricks is definitely a workout! when you start the thread, do you go back to the screen with all the different forums listed, and select "post" button? I wish I could give away sweet treats. I am a sugar addict, and if it's in the house I eat it. I use the GNC brand of vanilla protein powder, which I believe is whey based. It's probably not that great for you , but I find its the only one I have liked, and even with just mixing it with water, I can drink it. Hope you feel better after the shot.
I
Judy, I am thinking of starting back with MFP, recording workouts and food. You have been on there forever, doing a great job recording! I had problems with Cathe Live, where the sound disappeared at the 25 minute mark of the workout I was doing. Of course, "they" tried it and had no problem. Have you had any sound issues since they did this recent move to a new platform? I have sound now, but it is pretty static like..scratchy....not sure how to describe it.

Diane Sue, what did you think about the extended chair stretch? LOL about the Apple watch telling you to stand. My FitBit tells me at the :50 minute mark of each hour if I have to do more steps to get to my 250 an hour goal. I have been thinking about disabling that alert. what is the recipe for those protein balls that KCM makes?

Carolyn, great job on workouts this week! Especially doing the whole Step Boss PHAT 3 workout! That one is really tough!

Take care,

Good morning. normal this morning. yesterday was a total loss. I went to bed early last night, exhausted/tired. slept decently and feel on track today. my shoulder (injection) was very red and inflamed last night. I hadn't looked until I took a shower last night. looks much better today and discomfort is way down. glad I planned for a 'down" day.

deb I was ready to start the thread today. Glad you're back and kylee is doing better. When I last started the thread, I copied and pasted a previous thread title, but it wont let me turn on bold although it lets me change the date.
I will try to find a protein powder in small package. liquid protein drinks or bars are inedible for me. I am guessing its whey that's the problem but don't know for sure. I cant take multivitamins because of the smell/taste. it seems similar. I plan occasional use, nothing daily.
the new WW program is very easy to track but not free. knowing I pay is a motivation to stick with it. WW is vastly improved over my previous time, plus plans changed. more foods are "free" and vastly less fussing and calculating recipes. Im not exactly losing quickly though. slowly, incrementally but I'm not real far from a goal weight so I should expect it to be slow. I'm big boned, muscular, nothing delicate about me and there's no way I could weigh 110 lbs and be healthy. my ideal is probably 130-135 and not that much above that so I expect this will be a long slow battle.

This is another rest day for me.

Deb, great job with PHA 3. I agree, it’s a tough one. I usually do 3 segments, but occasionally challenge myself with the full workout. I like the Fitbit alert since I want to make sure I am moving throughout the day.

Valerie, glad that you are feeling better today. I know what you mean about being big boned—I am the same.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy.

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Weights Circuit. Kelly now has work sheets for some of the Raw weight workouts on her website. This was 31 (28 actual) minutes, heart rate 102/144, 689 steps, 79 calories. I figured I would get some work in today since Thursday I have the surgical procedure and will have a rest day. Not sure from there.

Workout was done in circuits with a few changes each circuit, timed at 30 sec each move

Deb, I hope the medicine works for Kylie. I have disabled the reminders to move before. When I put them back because sometimes it wakes me out of a sitting at the computer stuper and I get up and move a bit. It can be aggravating more than helpful though. There was a wonderful tasting protein powder that I bought in different flavors and my husband even loved it. I got it on Amazon, but then it became unavailable :(
Actually, the Garden of Life Whey is pretty good. Although I cannot remember which one I bought. There is a Sport whey and a grassfed whey. I like vanilla myself. I like the extended chair stretch. The first time I did it I was not impressed, but I guess I had some other expectations than sitting on a chair. Done right it is a nice gentle stretch.

Valerie, I guess I never looked at the immunization site. I just know it hurt for several days. Glad you are feeling better. I wish I had a better program for tracking cholesterol and saturated fats. MFP is okay I guess. The other program alerts on the home screen as to which foods are a problem that I have eaten. I sometimes feel I need to switch, but the MFP has all of my recipe profiles already in it.

Carolyn, Sundays are usually a rest day or just some stretching or yoga for me. I am just planning on having some down time ahead.

Recipe for the protein balls
1 cup peanut butter
1 cup protein powder (I used chocolate)
1 cup steel cut oats
1/2 cup agave
Chocolate chips optional and to taste. Mix everything together and roll into balls; refrigerate
(Kelly used chocolate protein powder and crunchy natural peanut butter)

Oats are uncooked? do they slowly soften up with the other ingredients? sounds good but too many WW points for me. I did a bit of yard work yesterday with DH. we took down our fence while we rebuilt our brick wall and had to put it back up again. not a strenuous day but decent considering how bad I felt on Saturday. off to the dentist this morning, routine cleaning.

This morning I did Muscle Endurance for 64 minutes and 329 calories burned. My average heart rate was 120 and maximum heart rate was 165. I decided to do the March rotation and make changes for the workouts that don’t appeal to me.

Diane Sue, I have made a similar recipe without protein powder. I use almond butter, oatmeal, cacao powder, and cacao nibs. I only make a small amount for snacks.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Valerie. Have a great day.

Hi Everyone,

I took rest days from working out this weekend. I worked 6 hour shifts both days so I did get a lot of steps, but no extra workouts. This morning I did PHA3 (thanks for the inspiration Deb!).

Deb-I hope Kylee is better this week. Thank you regarding MFP. I've been on there a long time and it's just such a habit now. I enjoy it. I didn't notice any sound issues with Live, but I've only done one recently. I have a few more I need to do. Maybe I'll try one this week and see how it is.

Valerie-that's great that you are feeling better. My arm did hurt for a few days, like Diane Sue's, but I was over feeling really sick after the first 24 hours or so.

Carolyn-Great job with Muscle Endurance! That is one of my favorites and one I plan on doing soon.

Diane Sue-Nice job on the Raw workouts! I printed out the Raw Strength sheets. I need to fit a week or two of those into my rotation.

Have a great week!

Judy

I don't want to stoke the paranoia fears about corona virus but I live in the area of WA state where several people have died. I am doing the usual precautions... handwashing, sanitizer, not touching my face with contaminated hands etc.

Stores here are selling out or are sold out of Kleenex, toilet paper, sanitizer, wipes, alcohol, bleach, cold meds, and who knows what else. If you don't keep a reasonable supply of these items and you use them, if they are still available in your area, buy now. I planned to buy Kleenex this morning not realizing it was a high demand item and it was all gone. we have plenty, but my usual pattern is resupply when I open the last box. I heard from a neighbor that it went to panic buying Friday when the first person died. we are at 6 dead now in the state and I don't know if this is any worse than the old sick people who die during regular flu season, but its getting more publicity.
Dental went fine this morning, will do a workout later today. Judy that is pretty much how it was for me too, about 24 hours of feeling pretty bad and then back to normal.

.

Hi all,

Today I did Ripped W/ HIIT Low Impact Hiit #2. 35 Minutes, 219 calories. Kylee doing well with the increase in the dose of the meds. Fingers crossed this is it. Thank you all for your concern.

Valerie, glad your shot site is getting better. I am not panicking about the Coronavirus, but it seems like it is heading in that direction. As for the buying out of certain items, I wish people would stop buying masks! Those will be running out soon too. They need these more in health fields, hospitals etc, I saw a not of news about Washington State. We have had 1 death in NY so far.

Carolyn, yes, I put in the FitBit alert for the same reason. It usually "goes off" when I just started to doze for a nap. :).

Diane Sue, thanks for the recipe and the info on the chair stretch. I want to see if I can get John to do it with me. He needs to stretch, but with his balance issues, bending around and lowering his upper torso to the ground would not be good. I feel the same way about switching to another food log. All my stuff and meals etc are already on MFP. They still did not fix the bug for entering exercise. I have to put at least 2 things in, to get the first one to appear on my newsfeed. Grrrr...so aggravating. I have contacted their tech support at least 3 times on the issue and they never fix it. Is there anything you can substitute for agave?

Judy, good job on PHA 3! Let me know what you think of the sound quality of Cathe LIVE. There is definitely a difference for me. It is scratchy, or something, hard to describe.

Have a good evening!

This morning I did Raw Step 3 modifying a bit on the compound weights since they have overhead shoulders and upright rows. I did about half of that segment those moves and the other half bicep s curls with the lower moves. I forgot that Kelly says you should/ can do with weighted gloves or a weight vest. I should have used my lighter weight vest to intensify. This workout was 44 minutes, heart rate 130/172, 232 calories, 4,176 steps. I finished with Jessica Gentle Yoga neck and shoulders, heart rate 84/127, 21 calories, 35 steps, 21 minutes as I started with the wrong workout and soon realized. I went to Walmart Supercenter today and it took forever to get out of there. I did buy a lot because I don't like trips there and hope it is a long time before I need to go again. I should get up really early and go. I was driving home in late afternoon traffic. I bought stuff for some of the protein balls today. I am changing to some almond cashew butter that has flax and chia seed in it. I was pulled on that and the one that has Vital Proteins collagen added to it. The larger Walmart has a lot more choices than the Walmart market does.

Valerie, I think the oatmeal softens a bit. I make smaller amounts and usually they are eaten before they have time to soften. If I made the full batch I would be in trouble. I figured the macros and I figured two of the balls when I make some with only enough for 4 balls was not far from what a protein bar is. Without chocolate chips it is even better. I suppose I could use Hersheys sugar free or Lillies Chocolate chips and the sugar would come down. Still extra calories though. I like them better than a lot of the protein bars. I don't think there has been much panic here. If you saw the crowd in Walmart and all of the workers stocking shelves post weekend and filling pick up orders you would think there is not anything going around. Although I don't think I have heard of any cases in out state. There is the one in Nebraska. That is the closest I know of.

Carolyn, Muscle Endurance is a good workout. I never think about it much though. I think I tend to pull out the dvds that are on the shelf rather than go through my holder that holds them out of the cases.

Deb, I think I have only had to enter my exercise once. I will pay attention when I put todays in the app. I have had problems with it before. Like putting the workout on the home page twice and not giving me enough time to get all of the workouts in before it goes there. Sometimes I go back and delete the wrong ones or doubles. Glad Kylee is doing better.

Judy, good for you taking a rest day. All of the steps is exercise anyway. Yes, it was nice finding the work sheets. It helped so I could go over the moves and see what I needed to see if they are doable or I need to make some modifications.

I did stacked upper and abs 2.

We live in one of two counties in WA where now 6 people have died. a lot of others have been exposed. Shopping became a feeding frenzy on things I mentioned plus face masks and probably things I don't know about. Bleach has been totally cleaned off the shelves. People really off the deep end! it happened very quickly, from normal to crazy over the weekend. I'm not doing panic buying myself, but you could be unpleasantly surprised if you need some of these normal seeming things, and you find the shelves bare.

Good morning,

Today I did Pyramid Pump, Upper Body, 3 sets Up Only premix. 32 Minutes, 172 calories. I wanted to do another LIVE PHA workout, but the 3 workouts I started streaming had no audio. UGH!!! I hate technology! I posted in the LIVE forum, waiting to see what they say. I did 9601 steps yesterday, if I would have known last night, I would have marched around the house a bit to get to the 10,000 :)

Diane Sue, good workouts! I feel the same way about Walmart. Ours is so overcrowded, and all the "self check-outs" even have a long lines to get to one. I would be using crunchy almond butter if I made those protein balls, no chocolate chips. Is there a substitute for agave?

Valerie, we have had one death in NYS. Hopefully we don't have the buying panic that you have seen there.

Hi to Carolyn, & Judy,

Take care,

This morning I did JS 40 Minute Mega Burn from her Walk the Weight Off 30 Day Plan. That was 40 minutes and 273 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 151.

Diane Sue, nice workout yesterday. I don't shop at Walmart because of the crowds. I lose track of what I’m trying to do whenever I am in that store!

Valerie, people are definitely overreacting to the corona virus news. There are two just diagnosed cases here. I think stocking up gives people some since of control over frightening situations. I need to go to Costco for paper products and other routine items that I get there, but I’m dreading it. Like you, I will continue to be vigilant with using universal precautions such as hand washing, etc.

Deb, great job with Pyramid Pump Upper Body. You can substitute honey for agave.

Judy, it’s understandable that you didn’t work out after your six hour shifts. Your work day was probably one long workout! I really enjoyed Muscle Endurance.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Iits funny since regular seasonal flu kills plenty of people every year but its hard to drag people in to even get a flu shot much less get concerned about it! sigh. people are so weird. I have never bought anything at Walmart, I don't like their politics, so I spend my money elsewhere. same for Hobby Lobby. I will never go there. walmart stores are unpleasant. I've been in one or two but never bought anything. Ugh. better choices.
I think people worry about areas being quarantined and might run out of TP. I usually buy paper products in bulk so I don't need to do it every month. I have a big jug of hand sanitizer and refill small bottles from it. I always use after shopping etc. still wash when I get home, but I have had way fewer colds since I started doing that.

This morning I did Raw 7 Strong, only doing the 1st 3 rounds as it bothered my shoulders and neck, 19 minutes, 54 calories, 611 steps, 106/149 heart rate.
I then went with my original planned choice which is Real Raw 3 (love the music), 41 minutes, 121 calories, heart rate 105/153,1,456 steps. I finished with Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga chest and back, 21 minutes, 21 calories, heart rate 85/100, 28 steps.

Deb, I used honey in those protein balls. I would think depending on what flavor protein powder you could also use pure maple syrup. I would have marched around for those extra steps too. I think I got 10,000 once this week. Technology can be so frustrating. We got Webroot for our antivirus since we wanted an American based anti virus. It is supposed to cover all of our devices, but it kept telling me I needed to download secure web browsing. I tried to download it and Google play says it is not compatible. I finally had them contact me back and tell me they have a new update coming this quarter that should fix the problem, but the rest of the antivirus was working. I spent so much time trying to figure it out myself.

Valerie, the same things happen when people hear we may have severe weather. They scare everyone when they keep talking about it and safety. They all clear out the water and essentials from the store shelves. I hate that when I go for just my few things and there are no packs of water, or paper goods. I guess they don't want to be stuck at home without things needed. We have had schools close down because of flu here.
A lot of the stores have hand sanitizer in front at the doors. You do not see many people using them or wiping down their carts.

Carolyn, I used to go to Walmart after I dropped my grandchildren off at school in the mornings and it wasn't bad. I just need to go early , but I like to do my workout and enjoy my morning. Something has to be sacrificed I guess. I rushed through the crowds trying to get out of there and forgot things. I didn't realize that I had forgot ginger root and garlic. I also forgot roasted red pepper for a spinach stuffed salmon I wanted to make. So I will try to get to Sprouts which is not so desirable right now because I have to go around another way to get there instead of around the corner. Road work on the main road has traffic backed up because they are redoing the two center lanes.

I just watched Kelly making those protein balls again and she does use uncooked steel cut oats, but they are the Quaker quick 3 minute steel cut oats. I just made a half batch which gave me 12 balls. I used the new almond cashew butter I bought.

Thats why I asked about whether they soften or not. we used to eat steel cut oats before the faster cooking version. oats I used were like pebbles! these sound great but I am not eating anything so concentrated until (maybe) I get to where I want to be. I will reach my goal this time. it will be slow.

I have never seen a run on "basics" like this before. the frozen food section looked like it had exploded. still things left but serious disarray. stores here always have sanitizer stations near the carts. years ago I went on a serious program for me to stop touching my face, T zone, and to use sanitizer after public spaces. It was hard to remember at first. I slipped up occasionally. I made it easy by putting sanitizer in the beverage holder in my car so I see it. learning not to touch my face took a while, but I have good control of the habit now. its the biggest thing we can do to help stop transferring viruses. I don't even remember when I last had the flu. head colds are rare. I'v e avoided catching DH's colds most of the time. I hate getting sick! I sanitize my phone, keyboard kitchen counters regularly. not fanatically but its a habit now.

I never got to exercise yesterday, shopping took way longer than usual. we will mt bike this morning. we plan to head to MT tomorrow.
