Good morning,

We got more snow last night, just what they predicted. I hope it goes away by next weekend when I have to fly to Tucson.

I plan on doing a 3 day split with STS disks 22, 23. & 24 this week. Need to change things up a bit. These are from Meso 2, which I like a lot.

The banquet was nice. DH & I got the "President's Award" This is awarded to the person ( in this case the 2 of us) that the President thinks helped the club or helped the President, the past year. A nice gesture and a nice plaque.

Valerie, that WoodMax workout is good to burn calories and build muscle. Kind of like a muscle endurance workout, only this one actually gets stuff done around the house too! Now why can't Cathe come up with something that is that versatile? ;)

Will check in later to see what everyone is up to.

Think I posted yesterday at about the half -done mark. we did several more hours, finished the tree except for chipping up some small stuff. Wow. I could BARELY bend over and straighten up afterwards I was so tired. each time I bent over I felt like I might have to stay there while! just exhausted. I'm fine this morning, a little low backache but no muscle soreness. a few small bruises from "tree branch wrangling". It's raining today so indoor workout. I might do the last STS disk and a little treadmill work.

Watched a movie 'the american" last night with george clooney. Not bad, not great, pretty low key spy-type movie. watching george in anything is always good for me.

Congrats on the award Deb! I love meso 2. there's not a single part of STS I don't enjoy except I wish push-ups came easier for me. I want to test out the new workouts though, and will try to do two of them this week. DH has already restarted STS and is nagging me to do the same.

I'm not a fan of TV sports so we'll go shopping at a nursery for a couple new trees while everyone else is eating and cheering. it's a great time to plant trees ... no need to water, things will usually be wet enough.

Hi Deb, Valerie, and any later posters--

This morning I did P-57 Vol. 2 (57 min.).

Valerie, that sounds like a lot of work. Maybe when I retire I will try to help DH more. He certainly stays in shape with his endless days of outdoor work. Today he was doing a lot of sanding, because last night we had a thunderstorm with crusty pellets falling from the sky. I am so tired of this godawful weather. I watched The Town last night. Really good! I can see why Jeremy Renner received an Oscar nod.

Congrats on the awards, Deb, and Keegan too, the little scholar. No, we have not read those dog books, but maybe when I have more time. Classes are pretty time-consuming right now, and I am trying to read a few pages of Lauren Hillebrand's Unbroken every day.

I'll go home a bit early today to get my wings done. I made the blue cheese dressing and cut up some celery this morning.

Hi to everyone else!

Lynda, we have 'the Town" and plan on probably watching it tonight. The American was OK, but it was filmed in a strange way. things were deserted except for the film characters.

Our lot is NOT flat... everything is low level cardio. dragging or rolling huge chunks of tree uphill combines cardio & strength. we use a mower/ cart to haul things but everything must be cut, split, and loaded. you end up lifting the entire tree several times before it's all in the wood shed. will dry for a year. Amazingly the difference in weight between wet and dry wood. Dh does more than I do, but it's a good workout and kinda fun in a way.

enough dawdling, off to do a workout.

wow traildoggie, how many times have you done it? i really want to do it again. i didn't do it at all in 2010 & not sure if i'm gonna have the attention span to do it this year with everything going on with the move remodeling and moving and ,man, on, and on , and on. STS takes so much concentration. maybe if we ever get the house done and get moved.

kinda doing a tracie rotation. did her in jan. and probably gonna do her in feb.

Monday

Good morning!

I did get up today and did Cardio Coach #7..which is my favorite. I skipped the middle 21 minute challenge ( it's a long steady state cardio thing), but did challenges 2 & 3 for a total of 35 minutes. whew...

I have DOMS in my cheeks ( "you know what cheeks I'm talking about" as Cathe says!), from that STS leg workout. It's been a while.

Well the SuperBowl hype is finally over. I am not a fan of football, unless the Bills are doing well. I am definitely a "fair weather fan".

Valerie, CUDOS to you for finishing STS again! Now I want you to start the new series so you can tell me what you think of it.

Garance, I take it you and Valerie get all these movies from Netflix or something similar? Do you get them in the mail or on line? I have never used any of those things, not being a movie buff.

Cathy, I hear you on doing STS in it's entirety. It is surely a challenge. The workouts get to be a little long for me. That is why I decided to pick 3 out at a time and just do those for a week or so, then pick three others. Doing a 3 day split with the shorter ones. How is the remodeling going? Are you moved in or living between both places?

Hi to Joan & Josie,

Take care,

I've lost count of how many times for STS, I think 4. This time in just over 3 months. previous were closer to 6 months.
when I first got STS, I hadn't done much weight work. I repeated disks a lot while learning how to do things. I never did 1RM tests and rely on recording weight used. I still do. we bought different equipment as we went along too, making progress easier. when I first started I had no clue how to advance from 5 to 8 lbs. If I couldn't do 8 lbs I stuck with 5. then I got weighted gloves, wrist weights, and can move up and progress.
I printed out all the worksheets. I refer to my old ones for weight used previously, and then record what I use currently.
I don't even think about the "big" picture, and treat it as 3 workouts a week mixed in with other things. It gets done... when it gets done. my previous times thru, if I got sidetracked by vacation, I'd repeat a couple disks and then go on from there. this time I had a pretty clear schedule from November.

I want to try the new workouts and see how I like them. I may actually do some 1RM testing now, just for the convenience of not having to cross reference old work sheets.

Deb, not a sports fan. I'd rather have a root canal than watch a "ball" game. DH is the same. His parents were such over-the-top "fans" ...TV on constantly sometimes 2 TV's with sports going at about 90 decibels... he dislikes it too.

We get movies, TV series from netflix. I have no clue how to do the streaming thing so by mail. We watch almost zero regular TV. Barely even turn it on except for nightly news, weather. occasionally watch 'whatever" when I'm on the treadmill.

Enjoyed "The Town" .. a good one. not very many good action movies lately, this was exciting and fairly believable without getting crazy.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's double bootcamp circuit (55 min.).

Congratulations, Valerie, on completing STS again. I did the whole thing twice per disk the first time, and then once per every upper body disk the second time. I was on the last week when I went off to the Jersey shore and broke my elbow. Have not done it since. Glad you liked The Town. I thought it was pretty good, and the accents were very familiar. One of my sons lives in Charlestown.

The Superbowl was pretty good last night because the Steelers almost catching up in the second half made it exciting. Everyone at our house was a Packers fan, so the win felt good. I am a Red Sox fan, a Celtics fan, and sort of a Patriots fan, but football is not my favorite sport. I loved going to watch my sons play soccer, baseball, and basketball.

Cathy, I don't know when I will start STS again either. It just looks too daunting to think about right now, and I'm not convinced that it did much for me. I am really into barre stuff and less equipment. All that stuff I would drag out for STS and then put away. Ugh--don't want to think about it right now.

Deb, I subscribe to Netflix in the mail. I have only streamed movies a couple times on my TV.

Guess I'll be around a lot right now. DH went to lunch with a colleague and I didn't want a 20,000 calorie lunch at a mexican place. Love those darn chips.

I love that each STS workout is different. No 'dread" factor for me. I get that when a move I don't like is coming, and I avoid doing a workout because of it. With STS even if I don't like something, it usually isn't around for long.

Both my younger brother and sister have had bilateral rotator cuff tears from falls in the last few years that have been debilitating. brother is retired on SS disability, sister is moving that direction too although she has a whole raft of other health issues. I don't know if there's some sort of family propensity to injuries there. my mother shredded hers on one side but she was about 85 so maybe not the same. I've become a little focused on building up and maintaining the shoulder area. I don't know if it will help prevent injury or not but rotator cuff tears seem to become a lot more common as people age so I hope building strength is beneficial.

Sometimes Boston accents annoy me. they weren't so heavy in this movie. An action movie but not crazy ridiculous. Don't know Jeremy Renner... assume it was ben affleck's brother?

Tuesday

Good morning,

This morning I did STS disk 23 (?) chest, shoulders & Triceps. Whew...very good workout. I used the same weights I did when I did STS a long while ago, so I guess I didn't loose any strengh, didn't gain any either.

Did I mention that we heard from the breeder in Syracuse? Here is the news:

..."We went to the vet's today and had sonograms done on both girls. Reese looks to have 6-7 puppies and Frenzy has 8 or 9. Barring any disasters or very bad luck, I dont see why we wouldnt have a puppy for you. Frenzy should be due about March 9, Reese a couple days later. Its going to be a BUSY spring here!"

We are so excited! I estimate we would get the puppy last week in May or first week in June.

Valerie, I am like you, afraid to go too heavy on the bench presses with a bar. I have no spotter so I keep it to where I know I will be able to put the bar back on the rack. I am amazed that you did STS 4 times!! LOL on the root canal versus watching a sports program. I like hockey, only watch the Sabres if I am at my brother's and he has it on, and football only if the Bills are in a winning season.

Garance, did you get more snow last night? We got another inch or so an it is still coming down. DH and I commented that this has to be the "snowest" winter we have had in a while. It never lets up.

Hi to Joan, Josie & Cathy,

Stay warm!

Just checking in so you know I didn't die. I am swamped with work right now. I've even missed my walking the last two days. Everytime I have started to post the last few days the phone rings. Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did BBL Cardio Axe (30 min.) and Zumba Cardio Express (20 min.).

Deb, that's so exciting. Are you going to get a female or a male? Yes, it's snowing even as I type. It just seems endless and DH tries to deal with the snow on the roof as well as plowing our long driveway (1/4 mile long), and shoveling all over the place for us, for the animals.

Valerie, Jeremy Renner is the brother. He was also nominated last year for Best Actor in The Hurt Locker, which I also recommend. Blue Valentine will be here this weekend, so I will be checking that one out, too.

Teaching Hamlet this afternoon. I've taught it so many times I can recite almost all the soliloquies, but I watched the Kenneth Branagh version of it and was really blown away all over again by how wonderful it is.

Hi to Joan, Josie, and Cathy!

we watch so many movies & I recognize people without knowing names. I "recognized" Jeremy Renner from other movies, not sure which. Might watch Hurt Locker again, thanks for the reminder. so many unrecognized people that make up the backbone of films, I always feel bad for not remembering their names.
I didn't want to do upper body yesterday so was going to test Lower Body Blast. I hadn't opened to preview that one. It was empty! so put in a message to cust service. I hauled out Butts and Guts and did most of it. all the standing stuff, and some of the floor stuff, but definitely not all. I aimed for a little soreness but nothing debilitating. that's what I got, nothing bad, just a reminder in the "cheeks" that I haven't done one of these in a while. I hate floor work even without ankle weights though it would probably do me good to get over that and do it regularly.

went to a tough yoga class this morning. not sure what else I'll do. It's sunny and lovely today, after 3 days of rain and fog. I won a drawing at the local Starbucks and got a basket filled with gifty -type things. I don't think I ever won anything before! I'm also considering weight watchers (to keep me focused) but the in-person meetings won't work time wise.
Anyone else done WW in recent years?
Deb, that's one reason I record weight diligently. I know I can press 60 but 65 is iffy so unless DH is around I don't chance it. Wonderful on the puppy! and soon-to-be being a new puppy- Mom. They are so adorable.

All that snow sure would be tedious by now. I've talked to my family in WI and they are struggling unhappily with it too. we will ski tomorrow but drive home to spring-like conditions.

Hi Ladies,

I'm also still alive! The workouts are getting harder and harder, but doable. Here is what I did Monday and today:
Monday
5 pull ups, 10 push ups, 15 sit ups, 20 squats. These were done in sprint motion and for time and we had to do 5 sets. My times were 1:49, 1:38, 1:51, 1:43 and 1:26.
Tuesday
10 squats with 35lb barbell + 10 superman's-banana (you start in superman position then you roll over on your back without using your arms or legs to the right and then the left, that counts as one). We went in descending count on the squats until we got to 1 squat plus the superman’s for a total of 55 squats and 100 supermen’s. I had a headache after this on. I'm usually sweating after the warm up so you know that I'm soaking wet by the time we finish the whole workout.

Deb, congratulations on the new puppy!

Have a nice evening!

Josie

Good morning!

I was up at 4:00, did an Itread, now I am enjoying some coffee. ( Yes, with 50/50 caffine). It is still very cold here, and we got a little more snow. When will it end? I leave for Tucson on Sunday, it should be a little warmer there, I hope!

Joan, glad you are still alive! :)

Garance, we are going to get a female. The females can be a litte "*itchy", so we will be working with the breeder to make sure we get the right temperment. Keegan is such a sweet dog, has no real aggressive tendencies, I don't want a puppy that is going to challenge him.

Valerie, I hope you opened all those other DVD packs! I read on here that someone else had that same issue, not sure which workout it was though. You can always donate the basket to another auction, or give it to a friend.

Josie, wow, that workout sounds tough! Are you seeing any weight loss etc?

Hi to Cathy, how is the move/remodel going?

Stay warm and take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Booty Barre (63 min.).

Deb, that's interesting about females of that breed. I would think Keegan would be the ruler. Makes me wonder about getting another dog with Max and how he would react. He's so clearly the "baby bear" in the house I wonder if he would resent a new puppy.

Josie, I am really impressed. I just couldn't do the stuff you are doing. I need something more than terror and dread to make me exercise. I would have dropped out almost immediately.

Valerie, I hope everything works out with Cathe's CS. Very annoying.

Hi to Joan and Cathy!

Hi,

A little late getting here, I just finished STS #24, Back and Biceps.

I am off today for the mamo & Bone density scan. Of course I have a conference call at 8:00 that I have to be on. After that, DH and I are going out for breakfast then to do some errands.

I think Max would love a puppy, and I would ask the breeder for advice on male or female. Have you had him around other dogs? How does he react?

Off to get ready for the call....I will check in later to see what everyone is up to.

What I've heard about both dogs and cats, is if there's already an established pet, to get opposite sex and younger. I don't think it's absolute, if everyone is neutered/spayed but just best chances for no difficulties. gotta get off, back in a few minutes.

Went xc skiing yesterday and it was lovely. probably doesn't sound great to all of you driving it and shoveling it. had to drive to almost 3000 feet elevation to get some, but nice dry fluffy snow and plenty of it. 3 hours up, 1 hr down, and about half an hr for lunch sitting in a snow bank. so a good 4 1/2 hr workout. found some great critter tracks especially some really clear and very fresh cougar prints. so good we took pictures of the prints. ate very lightly considering the workout.

I opened the last DVD, was fine. I emailed CS and they said they'd send me a new one that day. no questions asked. made me think it's not that unusual. painless process assuming it arrives OK. my lower body is the bigger problem area, I was pretty sure I'd like 3 of 4 disks from the presale. just the intensity one sounds less attractive. haven't even looked at that one yet. will do either total body or high reps today. got enough cardio yesterday for a day or two.

wow josie, that sounds tough but it sounds like you're also getting tangible results immediately. that must feel good! Never heard of the superman banana before, sounds interesting. pull ups, I try but can't do a real pull up. that's what I like about new routines, new moves surprise you and you're half done before you notice they're HARD.

Joan, my neighbor across the street has been walking and she's lost so much weight I barely recognize her anymore. hope you can finesse getting your workout in. did you get more snow?

Linda, we watched the last movie in the swedish series. it seemed to drag on forever for me. we were tired from the day and I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous 2. the older guys in the movie all started to look and sound alike.
