Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/26

thanks.. I find shoulders at the beginning is tiring. I'm using 25's and 8's rather than cathe's 30's & 10's. I think if I did biceps earlier on I could go to 12's or 15's from 10's without an issue. my triceps don't get that tired either. I need to allow for my right shoulder still not being equal to my left although hugely improved. I like this workout and it goes quickly for me, so switching up the order might make it better and also keep me from getting tired of it.

I'm doing pull overs with 25's. she is using 35's. I could go heavier but I get uneasy passing the weight over my face to get the dumbbell in position. is there a way to do that with less risk? I'd like to try 30's but I can't figure out a safe way to do it. I thought of getting DH to spot for me or using two 15's instead of one 30. any ideas?

I just finished Maximum Intensity Cardio, 73 minutes, 627 calories. I almost feel I am cheating myself out of some calories. Cathe's workout manager gives 705 calories which matches up with my Calorie calculator based on my heart rate average of 149 and gross calories burned 738. Net calories was 686 with the calculator. I lowered my burn to what a met value of 8 would be. Cathe's has 9. This workout has always been a tough one for me. Meaning I am breathing hard a lot and there are times where I have to pause to catch my breath. Surprisingly the Fit Bit gave me 500 calories with heart rate 149/max 185. It does pretty well with heart rate accuracy. My dvd player froze up during the stretch. GRRR! I need to get another one. I want blu ray though as we have a lot of blu ray dvds + the television I workout on has 3D. So, I found a dvd player and put it in my Amazon cart. They are not near the money that they used to be. I got in 7 142 steps this morning.

Valerie, Maybe a barbell would be easier for pull overs. Or holding the dumbbell from the ends instead of the middle. I find holding two together very uncomfortable for pullovers and overhead triceps extensions. I just figure Cathe does it so they don't have to have so many dumbbells out at once. Or, you could try increasing gradually by using weighted gloves with a 25 before moving on to 30#. I am still being careful on the pull overs and shoulder stuff. Not as heavy as I used to go. I don't want injuries.

I will come back in a bit and finish reading posts. I have to get a shower and run to the store.

Hello Everyone,
Today I did Turbo Barre warm-up, Barre Amped Seat Work, and the Barre Amped Power Stretch. Not much of a calorie burn or steps with this type of workout. I also walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes to get a few more steps.

Valerie, I prefer to use one dumbbell for pull overs, but I hold it by the ends. I feel like I have more control that way. I use 20 or 25 pounds for pull overs.

I went to the outdoor farmers market again and picked up some beautiful chard. I wanted grass fed beef and pork from the local farmers. I found both and we are set for a while with meat.

Diane Sue, Maximum Strength Cardio is a tough workout. Great job on that. I really admire your ability.

Deb, I plan to preorder the new dvds also.

Have a wonderful afternoon everyone.

Carolyn, the thing is I remember years ago when it was new that I would do all of MIC and turn around and do Circuit Max right after it. I burned mega calories. Now I look back and think between my children, daycare, and little sleep, no wonder I was exhausted. I do enjoy a long tough workout here and there still but, not on a daily basis and not that many hours.

Lori, enjoy your time with Madeline today.

Deb, when I put in MIC today I remembered that it did have 3 different divisions on it so the floor, step, and intervals segments are easy to access separately. These can be broken down. You should try MIS. It is a good muscle endurance workout. Yes, just washing the hair and letting it dry would be nice. Even when I had really long hair and did not color it, if I let it air dry I had to use hot curlers or something to smooth it out. No flat iron then. If I try curling it I end up with it falling out within a couple of hours and then it just hangs in waves that look sloppy and fall every which way. Some straight pieces. It is not pretty. I am not inclined to be a slave to the curlers and curling iron either. My granddaughter has very long hair and curls it before school. She will come to my house before going to events and curl it all over again. That is way too much work and hard on the hair.

Valerie, I have to slather lotion on morning and night and use moisturizing shower creams for bathing or I am really dry and itchy and prone to rough rashes. Yes, aging does that to you. I used to have excessively oily skin.

Good afternoon all!

No workout today for me. I planned this to be a rest day since I knew I was traveling. Tonight we are going to dinner at one of Madeline's sons to celebrate her bday. Will be a fun night. Going to try and not each too much but I know he usually has an amazing spred ao this will be a challenge. I brought bands and my blue firewalker loop. Hope to get in a good workoit tomorrow plus my son wants to walk with me in the morning.

I think I will like the new workouts and will like getting some use out of my tower. They are being released early summer so thinking end of June?

Carolyn...I agree with the low calorie burn with barre. I love the deep burn I get from it though. Been ages and I mean ages since I have done MSC or MIS. I loved them back in the day. I do the same thing with pullovers and use just one. I feel safer.

Diane Sue...congrats on the MIC workout..I need to pull it out just to see if I even remember it. I will never do it but would like to just take a peek at it. Can't imagine doing Circuit Max right after! SB was offering her most recent Hip hop bounce free to all to try out. Not sure if you noticed this. Her bounce are not intense by all means but I love them just the same!

Valerie...my hands are always so dry. I know it is from the soap at the office. Makes them so rough.

Deb...glad you liked the workout. How did you like her as an instructor? I used ankle weights on the lower portion and wow felt it the next day. How did you like the light weights, high reps? Pretty much all I do now. Funny how I competely changed.

Have a great afternoon all!

Got the spin done today instead. the one from xtrain, a 45 min premix so not quite the whole disk but close enough.

I have decent skin and I try to take care of it. not a lot of wrinkles, freckles, moles skin tags etc but the last few years I'm dry. my hands always were. can't use strong soap or it feels like a layer of skin has come off. I always carry sanitizer and a small container of cream so I can take care of business and stay comfortable. the shower business has gotten worse the last few years especially in winter. so I reduced soap use. it is a concern if we start spending more time in the rockies as it is much drier there. we will see.

I need to wash, blow dry, and then do the front with a flat iron. air drying it gets too curly wavy and looks ridiculous.

I'll try the barbell for pullovers. I'll try everything else too and see what works next time I do ramped up.. I don't mind 2 dumbbells so something is bound to work. I am uneasy about 30, but maybe 25 and weighted gloves would be close enough to test it out.
