Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 2/26

Hello Everyone,
No workout for me today. I didn't get up early enough to do it before my meeting and the day was pretty full after that. I am back at my goal weight so I don't have to pay anymore, but I will continue to attend the meetings. It's a very important component and I have already experienced what happens for me when I don't have that support.

I'm looking forward to starting a new rotation even though I have enjoyed this one.

I hope everyone is having a good day.

Today I put Ice Rock'm Sock'm in my computer and it played fine. It must be my old dvd player/video player. So I started with the blizzard blast premix with warm and and stretch 28 minutes, 201 calories. I then did Strong and Sweaty Ramped Up Upper body, mish mosh #3 double it, 50 minutes, 225 calories. I finished off with Barre Amped Stretch and Strengthen upper body stretch and the 5 minute Yoga Tune Up shoulders adding some of the therapy ball work to it, 20 minutes, 45 calories.
Family dinner tonight. I have chili and a skinny chicken fajita soup recipe that I got off of pinterest cooking with chedda jalapeno bread and salad. Some tortilla chips to use too if someone wants them. I double the chicken in the soup because I like it more of a stew or chowder so it probably isn't as skinny ;)

Carolyn , nice work getting back to your goal weight:)

Deb, I am sorry that your appointment was pushed back. Waiting is not pleasant when you need help. I am so glad that we do not have to go through the inspection process. I have had the dvd too long. But, as stated it did work in my computer. Maybe I need a new dvd player or to have it polished. I cannot see anything on the disc itself though. It is just so odd that it will show the intro and warnings and then stop working and I have to fight to get it to eject. I have another dvd player upstairs but it is even older.

Judy, I check the weather every day before I dress because I never know if I need long sleeves or short sleeves. Weather a coat for going out. It is odd. Amazon is pretty good about returns. I have had pretty good luck with what a get but a very few times I have received something that I did not think was as it should be. I had some eye cream that I purchased that was 100% pure and the packaging was not the usual box tube that it usually comes in. I wondered if someone had returned it without the box or something. The dvd did work in the computer so I am not sure what to think. I am pretty sure it was from Amazon themselves and not another seller. I try to check out sellers before I purchase things. I did get a good deal and a good used condition on the original Xbox for my grandson. I just ordered a car part for him that he gave me money for. It was a warehouse deal. I hope it works well for him. It said the packaging was damaged and it had some tiny scratches. A 16 year old doesn't need to have something like that not work. I tried to convince him to get the more expensive one but he wanted to have the extra 8 dollars to eat out with his church group.

Valerie, Ice is the only workouts of Cathe's that I have not purchased direct from Cathe. I think that is why they replaced one of the Ripped With Hiit for me a while back. They misunderstood and sent me the case that holds the discs. I use it for workouts I pull out like the Susan Chung workouts, that I am using right now. They didn't want it back. They do have a time limit on replacements and they could have not replnaced it.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was SB's Lower Body BC class, 35 mins. I have done this one several times and enjoy it. I followed up with her new Hip Hop Bounce recently posted, 12m. I liked it so I repeated it to give me a total workout this morning of 59m.

Deb...that stinks you now have to wait until April for the testing. That is terrible. Same here with the weather. We broke a record the other day when it hit 70. We all loved it! I leave for Charlotte with my son to visit Madeline for the weekend so hoping the weather is nice. It is a quick trip to celebrate her bday. We leave Saturday and come home Monday. It will be nice to see her even for a short time.

Judy...yes agree your weather has been all over the place. It has been so odd here. The begining of last week we had 2 feet of snow on the ground. Today it is just about gone. I still have yet to do muscle endurance. Seems like I hardly ever do a cathe workout anymore. I miss them but really enjoy my barre and bounce too much.

Valerie...that accident does sound terrible. Even scarier with the propane tanks. That could have been a disaster. Nice thinking about a new car. I love car shopping!

Caroyln...great job on getting to your goal weight. You must feel great. I am enjoying weightwatchers online. It really has helped me with portions. Monday I received a $10 ebook credit on amazon so I purchased several weightwatchers cookbooks. I am looking forward to making some of the recipes.

Diane Sue...sounds like the older dvd player is the problem. Great workouts today! You always have such variety. Do you plan your workouts for the week or do what your are in the mood for? Usually it is what I feel like doing if I am not following a rotation. Wish I was better at a schedule. Your soup sounds delicious!

Have a great evening all!

Lori, I hope that you have nice weather for your trip to visit Madeline. I have a sort of plan for my workouts. Like this week I know that I want to do Rapid Fire at least twice, maybe 3 times, a Total Body and an upper and a lower workout So far I have Rapid Fire and lower body left to get that all in. I always like to try to get in some extra stretching or yoga. Sometimes if I am exceptionally tired, short on time, or sore in one area it may alter what I want to do. I have been going through some of the premixes on Strong and Sweaty. Formulating ideas in my mind for what I would like to pull out and work on next. I like to switch up workout styles. I think I am just needing to purchase a new dvd player. All of them are old. The newest one was the only blu- ray player with the Sony sound system that my husband purchased 5 years ago. I have not done an actual rotation in awhile. Particularly with the surgery and everything. It is easier to form a weekly plan.

Good morning,

I worked at the office yesterday afternoon...did not get a workout in.

Judy, good job on the workouts. I saw on MFP that you did a really long indoor ride too.

Valerie, what a mess that must have been! Frozen fish all over the place, along with propane. Ugh. Tests were rescheduled but not until April. I am pretty upset about it.

Carolyn, great job getting to your goal weight!

Diane Sue, that soup sounds delicious, and I would probably enjoy it with more chicken too. It does sound like it may be the DVD player. They are pretty cheap now, can get a new one at a Walgreen's for probably $20.

Lori, so nice that you and your son will be visiting Madeline for her B-Day.

Not sure what is up for today, I need to get back into the attic, now that it is a little warmer.

Take care,

Today's workout was Rapid Fire Results. I did the Rapid Fire remix version with the metabolic weight segments between the combos and drills. Funny, I got over 50 calories less burn this time doing it this way. 74 minutes, 519 calories. Max Heart rate was 176. I used 1# for the drills and combos and 5# dumbbells for the metabolic work, abs 8# med ball. I have a lot to do and am hoping that I have time tomorrow to do legs. My husband has someone coming over for a price quote on some possible work.

Deb, cleaning out an attic is something I need to do. I think it is cooler outside here today because my heater is running. I need to check it out. My daughter was commenting on me having the perfect spot or something for my plants because my roses and hydrangea are all leafing out. I think it is because they do not get as cold in the planter near the door where the dryer vents out and they are protected from a lot of wind.

the frozen fish disaster was a year or two ago, but it ended up being the same sort of long time closure with everyone routed off the freeway to surface streets. so luckily deb, the fish and propane didn't happen in the same wreck but had similar outcomes for commuters. supposed to have been a plan set up by the city for handling this kind of thing. not sure how it could be planned for, since each accident has been unique. beyond who makes the decisions, I don't see how there could be a lot of planning ahead.

Carolyn congrats on reaching goal. a huge step!

I did Metabolic total body again yesterday. I use same weight as cathe on everything now. I am getting myself cornered into doing a time pressed workout between 4 and 5. DH and I can't work out at the same time. somehow the middle of the day got away from me. I want to try workout earlier in the day if I can.

the car shopping is focused without many decisions to be made. getting another Subaru forester. mostly deciding color and accessories. I drove a crosstrek but DH thought it was too noisy. it was smaller than a forester but gas mileage was the same.

ETA did Ice Low impact pre mix plus core. not a long workout about 45 total... not "nothing". Have done this one but not many times. I like TBM much better but I don't want to get tired of it by doing it too much.

Today I did Maximum Intensity Strength. I switched my schedule around a bit because I wanted to do weights today. It was a great workout, one that I have only done 2 or 3 times.

It has taken me a long time to get back to my goal, but I think it's best that way. I have developed better habits over time. I always tried to eat healthy, but obviously I needed to work on some things, portion size being one of those things.

Hello to everyone.

Valerie, you are good to at least still get a workout in. If I don't get mine in in the morning it is not likely to happen. I don't see how they could possibly have a plan for an accident situation like that. What kind of plan would they have anyway?

Carolyn, I have done Maximum Intensity Strength many times. I had it on vhs before I got the dvd with it on it with two other workouts. It was one of my first workouts of Cathe's along with MIC and the Pure Strength workouts. So, I loved them and did them a lot. Back then I didn't have hundreds of workouts like I do now .

Carolyn I think you are 100 % right about portion control. Even when you stay active, you burn fewer calories as you get older. even good food choices end up causing gains for most people.... portion size has to drop.

Diane sue ...no surprise when the traffic plan didn't get done. How can anyone write anything useful for every possible scenario??

Getting my hair done this morning so will do a spin early. Spinning destroys my hair!

Deb where are you this morning?

Good Morning,
I just finished Rapid Fire 4 Sweat premix with no boxing rounds. Total time for the workout was 49 minutes. I am also having my hair done today. Valerie, I totally understand about getting the workout in first. I want to keep my hair looking nice for 2 days at least, but my workouts don't allow that.

I hope everyone is well. Have a great day.

Good morning,

Nothing new here...the weather is getting colder but is supposed to warm up again next week.

Diane Sue, that is strange that just changing the order of a workout can reduce the calorie burn. Nice that your plants are starting to get some greenery.

Valerie, congrats on using the same weights as Cathe! We love our Foresters, and do not see changing anything in the future. We have had 5 of them now. ( that counts the one that John had for 6 weeks and was totaled). Got on a little later today. Yes, workouts are not "hair friendly" unless you have the type of "wash-n-wear" hair that can be just washed and air-dried. NOT!

Carolyn, I have MIS but don't think I have ever done it. It is pretty long right? Not sure if it had any premixes, especially shorter ones.

Processing the dog's food today, and I need some new slippers so a trip to Kohl's. I have a 30% off coupon which is timely.

Take care,

Deb, MIS can be split upper ad lower since upper is the first part and lower after, ending with abs. I used to do that a lot even though no premixes. I belive lower is 24 minutes, not counting the warm up and stretch and upper 35. It has been awhile. I also used to split MIC. I would just do the step or sometimes that final blast that took about 15 minutes.

Thanks Deb. Since it's an intermediate workout Cathe's weights don't get crazy. A few moves I could even go a little heavier but I don't want to make it too difficult. This is a fast efficient one for me with zero dread factor and I don't want to mess with that. This wilL be Subaru number 3 but we keep our vehicles til the wheels come off.
I can do weights and most metabolic type workouts without hair destruction. But something about spinning causes my hair to tank. It's a simple pony tail. My skin started reacting badly to perms many years ago. And then more recently with hair color so I keep style pretty simple

Today I did Ice Chiseled Lower Body Blast timesaver 1, Blizzard blast with the w/u and stretch, 33 minutes, 208 calories. I then did Strong and Sweaty Total Body Giant Sets Lower body mix, rnd 1,3,&5, which took me 40 minutes stopping at each giant set rnd to adjust weights and write what I had just finished, 218 calories, I finished off with Suzanne Bowen Barre Amped Lower Body Stretch, 20 minutes, 53 calories. Total time was 93 minutes, 470 calories.
Total Body Giant sets weights: Not all reps are written down here because Cathe does some at a fast & slow rep pace then finishes off with singles. I may even be wrong on some of these. I hate to stop working to go write notes down. I wish she put the reps down on the print outs. It would make decision making better.
round 1
squats 50# 4 reps at 1/1/single , 8 singles
rear sliding lunges 15's unsure of the reps
plie squats 50# Unsure
side slide lunges 20# dumbbell 4 2/2 count then 8 singles
dead lifts 30's 12 reps
round 3
wide stance deadlifts 60# barbell 12 reps
cross back slide lunge 20# dumbbell 16 reps
diagonal lunges 20's 12 reps
static lunge 25# dumbbell 16 reps, 7 reps, 7 reps
warrior lunge disc and body weight
round 5
squats 40# 12 reps , 4 @1,1,2 count, 8 singles
deadlifts 60# 12 reps

Valerie, my hair is always easy care. When I get sweaty it frizzes and wave in odd patterns which is not pretty. I can't lie down with a book without it looking weird when I get up. I wash daily, blow dry with heat protection spray and some hair oil on the ends., Flat iron the pieces down and that is it. Some days I just dry and let it stay with little ends popping out so it gets a break. No pony tail though. I always hated the way I look in a ponytail. I wish I could wear one. My girls have always worn one or stuck their hair up in a knot on top of their heads. I am back to coloring with Nature Tint again. It doesn't burn on my scalp and wreck my hair.
plie squats 45# 12 reps(may be the same rep sequence as squats
sweeper lunge disc 24 reps bodyweight

schedule was not what I expected.... so no spin. I did Ramped up upper body at about 3:30. by the time I get to biceps at the end I'm tired and have to go lighter. I need to look at a premix that switches up the order. would like to do biceps earlier to see how it feels. I like this one but now turn off the audio and do voice only. it's a big improvement. I hate the music on this one.

My skin will not tolerate daily showers anymore. I am down to about 2 a week with a lot of cream or lotion. I get dry and itchy just from rinsing with water and minimal dove soap. getting old is a bitch. my hair is much the same. if it gets weirdly wavy, I take a flat iron to it.

Good morning everyone!

Been keeping up with SB's challenge plus adding on. Wanted to quickly say hi! Leaving for Charlotte this morning. Will read everyone's post later today. Hope everyone is doing well.

Have a great day all!

Edited to say I ordered the Fit Tower downloads yesterday. I liked the sound of all three of them. Decided on just the downloads again since it worked out fine with the S&S.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did the Body by Simone Cardio Total Body workout that is on YouTube...(thanks Lori for the suggestion!). It was good, the cardio was a little high impact but I was able to modify easily. I am feeling it in my butt today!

Diane Sue, thanks for the info on MIS. I think I had not taken it out because it had no premixes and was so long if I remember. Washing, blow drying, and flat ironing every day is not "easy care" in my book! :). I would love just to wash and let air dry, but not happening here.

Valerie, any exercise I do messes up my hair, and putting it in a pony tail causes that dreaded "ridge" in the back. My hair is very "impressionable". LOL

Lori, have a safe trip.

Anyone else order the new DVD's? I ordered, hope I like them. They sounded more than just barre, so that is why I took the chance on them. Still, can't beat the price on the pre-orders!

Agility class this morning...

Take care,

Lori have a good trip!
Deb good for you getting in a workout MIS isn't one I have but that's ok. I'm also taking a pass on this new series. I have enough workouts and more choices don't seem to motivate me. I'm finding repeating ones that" work "for me is a better plan. Also going back and doing premixes. It occurred to me yesterday that Ramped up might be a completely different if done ina different order. By the time I get to the last sections I'm tired and have to drop weight down so I'm using 10's.

Valerie, Ramped Up Upper has a scrambled push pull mix with biceps before shoulders at the end. Otherwise it is devised up into one or two body parts together and doubling or tripling them. You could just use the chapters and switch the order.
