Good morning all,

This morning I did KCM's Your Best Body weight workout. I am going to try her rotation to see if I can get myself motavated again.

Is it my computer or is the site really slow today? I have to shut down right now, take the dogs for a walk and I will try again later...

I had my virus software come up 3 different times this past week as I was signing on to the site.. I sent a message to the board monitors, or whoever here would want to know that.

BB in a bit...

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did Turbo Barre (74 min.).

I'm not having any trouble with the site now, Deb, so maybe it's been corrected?

Good for you on getting started again.

I went to see The Artist yesterday. I thought it was entertaining, but only in a kind of frothy way. I don't really understand why it's considered Oscar material. Reminded me of Truffaut's playfulness. Loved the dog in it.

Off to a comfort Sunday meal tonight, so I guess I will be recording the red carpet stuff, which I always enjoy.

I did High Reps yesterday. I don't know why I thought it moved too quickly ... except the first time I do a workout, I record weights used , so maybe that was it. I like that one.

this morning we did a trail run using some new "trail running" shoes. they were much better than the lightweight boots we'd been wearing. we got some snow but nothing significant. we decided to go to Manning park in BC to ski tomorrow. then maybe do a local; camping trip with the mountain bikes and some hiking.

so since we're here I'll get to watch the Oscars anyway. I would prefer to be off somewhere distant but this will do.

I'll get to The Artist when the rush slows down. not anything I'd make a special effort for. I always like Billy Crystal.... so glad they didn't repeat the folks from last year, Franco & hathaway. it takes a special touch to host oscars, and they did not have it.

I know we don't usually talk politics here but what in the world is going on? (I won't being this up again if no one wants to comment) Santorum is totally bizarre and scary... this is so extreme it's hard to believe what I'm hearing.... separation of church and state "makes him want to throw up" ???? wants to replace the education system with home schooling? Good grief...

Good morning,

I did a KCM Step Boxing workout this morning, kind of fun, once I learn the routines. I didn't burn many calories though, hopefully once I get it down I can put more into it. I even used the Cathe weighted gloves.

I see that The Artist won the Best Picture award. Not seeing any of them, I could not tell you if it was a good choice or not.

Garance, did you see most of them? which picture do you think should have won?

We spent about 2 hours cleaning part of the basement yesterday, feels good to toss lots of stuff that we never use.

Again, last night when I tried to sign on to this site my virus scan stopped me and said there was the W32.Rogue.Gen" threat and would immediately started the scan. I didn't get a reply from the board administrators yet.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, and Valerie--

This morning I did After Burn (54 min.). Tough for me this morning because I stayed up to watch the Oscars, but by the time I was done, I was feeling good, strong, a Cathe warrior.

Deb, if I were choosing the best film, it would probably be The Descendants or The Help. Both have flaws in my opinion. Some of the humor in the first seems contrived, and The Help is a bit plodding and sentimental at times, but the actors save it. I loved Bridesmaids, and wonder why they don't have a separate Oscar for comedies. I couldn't decide whether Clooney or Pitt should get best actor, but finally chose Pitt because he really IS the film--in every scene with a minimal supporting cast. I didn't see Meryl Streep because the movie sounds not so good, but I have tired of her impersonations anyway, and really think Viola Davis should have won for The Help in the role of Aibileen. Christopher Plummer was brilliant, and so was Octavia Spencer, so no arguments there. The Artist is a charming film, but I really don't think it's a film I would watch a second time. I did love the dog.

Valerie, don't get me going on the Republican clown show. Gingrich is a fear-monger who says he's Mr. "Cheerful"; Romney won't even stand up for a medical insurance program here in Massachusetts that everyone likes, including businesses; and Santorum is a sanctimonious crackpot that would firmly set women back into the home, barefoot and pregnant all the time (contraception is bad for us, and colleges are indoctrinating everyone with a socialist ideology, so scrap a college education, too). Ron Paul is, as he says, "consistent," but that means going back to the gold standard (????!!!!) and basically getting rid of the government, to hell with fixing our infrastructure, let the roads and bridges crumble. Even George Will and Jeb Bush think these candidates are zanily out of touch and total hypocrites about small government. If they truly were for getting government out of our lives, why do they want to poke their laws into our bedrooms and our medical decisions about our bodies. Ugh! End of rant. Loved Billy Crystal last night. He's the best.

One more paper to grade.

Hi out there--

This morning I did S & G (52 min.). Still don't do all of the burpees--substitute jacks or lunges.

Deb is having problems with a virus that wants to screw up her computer, so she wants me to let everyone know she is fine, just not logging on. Anyone else having this problem??

Picking out Jacob's Pillow performances today. Always fun.

Off to teach.

back for a few hours. Deb, I haven't had any trouble with this site loading. I like the feeling of cleaning out and passing on old stuff, I'm just not very good at doing it!

So we did our ski trip and it was fun. long day, about 3 hours drive each way, skiied for about 5 1/2 hours. it was sunny and very cold when we started but warmed up. I was exhausted by the time we got done but "good" tired. not sore today and got a good nights sleep.

Watched the oscars and enjoyed the program although it would be better for me to see a few of the movies. only saw "midnight in paris ", didn't like it much. Billy Crystal has the right touch and is always enjoyable. I was a little surprised at meryl streep winning, and even though I haven't seen either movie ( so no way to compare) I was hoping for Viola Davis. meryl has had so many awards and if their performances were equally good, I'd like to see the honor shared among more people. I'll get to both movies eventually but find it very hard to "compare". the Artist and Hugo are low on my list, eventually I'll rent them. Nick Nolte sure was bizarre... I was thinking he needs a hearing aid and forgot to wear it??
Linda, thanks for being clear...
I'm very disturbed at the trends the tea party morons brought to the GOP. Santorum is clearly a narrow minded, sexist, racist, bigot, intolerant of any one else's religion. you would think an intensely "religious" person (as he claims to be) would see the problems inherent in bringing religion into politics/government but clearly he doesn't think outside a very very small box. an anachronism... "separation of church and state" makes him want to vomit?.... well, Santorum makes ME want to vomit. Romney is the only possible nominee ( unless there's some hat trick at the convention) but he will be very damaged /tarnished by positions he's been forced to take to placate the far right wingbats running this side show. I used to vote both parties depending on candidates but this is just too pathetic. I really like the balance between two parties but there's not a chance in the world I'd vote "R" for anyone these days.
I've been trying to understand what happened with the whole birth control/ insurance coverage thing and am wondering if this was a political ploy by the Dems to get the right wing to take the bait and look like fools.

Edited to add that I'm not having any trouble with this site or any other. I've used Norton for a long time and it's worked well, never had a virus that I'm aware of. Hope Deb didn't get infected again... such a PITA to get cleaned and straightened out.
Edited AGAiN to say i''ll be gone until thursday.

Good morning, Quick check in because my virus software says it stopped something on this site also.

Have a stomach bug this week and it's no fun.

No exercise and I'm beginning to forget how.

Miss everyone and hope someday to have a life again.

Joan

Hi to anyone who shows up--

This morning I did High Reps (65 min.). I totally poop out on the triceps dips, and some of the abs work.

It's snowing here for a change. I guess we will get hit with 5 or so inches, but they are saying it's going up to 50 on Saturday, so who cares. Strange winter, if you can even call it that.

I guess Deb is still worried about a virus. I don't know what they have here at the college, but I haven't seen any warnings, so I guess I'm okay.

Sorry you are so burdened with work, Joan!

Office hours this afternoon, so I wonder how many students will show up.

Hi Ladies,

I bit busy here at work. The rides on the weekend were beautiful and hilly and cold.
It is supposed to be cold this coming weekend too.

I’m so ready to retire from this job! The politics and the people that surround me are driving me crazy.

I will be doing my core class plus spinning tonight. I have also experienced some computer troubles here at work, but he IT came over yesterday and cleaned it.

I will be back later.

Josie

Hi,

Quick check in. I received a response from the board admins here that they are aware of the virus issue, and said they believe they removed it, but are waiting for confirmation from Google. Not sure why, only that it could be that the site is run by Google. I asked them to let me know when confirmed...I don't want to spend too long here, will do a complete scan when I sign off.

Later...

I had to log in with name and password just now, hasn't happened in years. must be something going on. Hope the virus issue gets resolved.

we're back from our trip. It was short, nice... to a state parkan hour and a half from here. we mt biked for hour and a half tuesday. we're both improving, crediting the spin bike for helping. I rode up a couple hills I could not do before, and came down a few similarly. DH is going up hills he could not before, ones I can't do yet. .
next morning we hiked a few miles on a trail on a bluff over the beach. was very windy, snowing and sleeting, raining and blowing. this is inland salt water part of puget sound, not open ocean. we drove home in early afternoon. we tried to do some birdwatching with a telescope but it was too gusty-windy to stay focused on anything. this morning there's several inches of snow on the ground. yuck, thought it was getting to be spring but not today.

should mellow out as the day warms up but my yoga class is cancelled. maybe more later.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did Cardio Supersets (41 min.).

I had to sign in as well, so maybe this is a sign of a major cleanup of the Cathe site.

I would say that we have about 4 inches of snow, and it's just been drifting lightly down for quite awhile. Not enough to go snowshoeing, so unless we get hit some time relatively soon, my Hubs are retired.

Josie, I am so looking forward to this final semester being over. I'm not terribly impressed with my students this time, either. I have one student in my Plath-Hughes course who is absolutely terrific, but she's the total exception. I soldiered through a really bad set of papers. Retirement looks positively golden right now.

Morning all,

It looks like things are back to normal around here, they found the virus threat, did an upgrade on the site apparently and should be good now. It was in a link or something in the Open formum, so if you didn't go over there for any reason, you were not aware of it. Lots of people did get the same thing I did.

Garance, I envy you regarding your upcoming retirement. I am so looking forward to it. Almost 40 years in the same job, ( not exactly the same one but you know what I mean), is quite enough I would say.

Joan, is it the illness or are you buried in tax forms?

Valerie, no snow here, this has been the mildest winter that I can ever remember. It is supposed to get really windy tonight and all through tomorrow. Gusts up to 60 mph.

Josie, do you have a planned retirement date/year?

So glad it is Friday, had a terrible night's sleep and need a nap badly...

Later...

Happy.... seems this site is working okay again. I did not have any problems as far as I can tell.
we got 4-5 inches of gloppy snow wed night that is still stuck on our driveway. don't know if DH will get his car up, and if he can't then I'll be stuck here without wheels. I need to do some shopping and can't do that without a car. he used mine yesterday. we thought it would all melt but this morning it still looks "white".

I want to say... retirement is nice in a lot of ways but it's easy to get lazy. I can't get things "done" like I used to because there's no urgency to it. doesn't much matter what day of the week it is. I have to make lists of things that need doing and cross them off as I get them done ... helps some. I still get up early and keep 'regular" hours, and don't waste time watching junk on TV.

I did turbo barre yesterday, or most of it. got a phone call toward the end and didn't quite finish. still the same, get fried doing it but no pain or discomfort the next day. I swear I don't have muscles there to get sore. I can't get on my toes like most of the crew does. if you watch their feet. my feet do not get into that position, they just don't get there.

Back to say DH got up the driveway so I can do my Costco run today. Having health issues with my mother who has declined recently. she's 92. mostly problems relate to her feet which are so painful and deformed she is getting close to when she won't be able to walk to the bathroom. My brother is taking care of her. we had requested some followup labs, didn't get done as asked so had to call the doctors office and re order them. waiting for a call back now. I hate to interfere but sometimes things get done so half a$$ed I'm appalled. If she can't get to the bathroom I don't see many choices left.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did AT (56 min.).

I wonder if the new Google privacy stuff had something to do with problems here.

I am so looking forward to that lack of urgency, Valerie. I know what it's like when I am on sabbatical, but even then, I feel like I must WRITE, WRITE, WRITE! while I have the chance. I have another set of papers, and students coming in this afternoon, and a really boring speaker that I feel like I must go listen to because my dept. chair is alarmed that so few people have signed up to attend (for God's sake, why is he speaking on "syllepsis"--I cannot think of a more boring thing to talk about, and it sounds more like a disease than a type of phrasing. Sometimes......). Not to boast or anything, but my stuff is not a total bore. Just want to go home and make my enchiladas.

Not sure what, if anything, I will be doing this weekend beyond Housemax and shopping, and yes, paper grading. Sigh!

Hmmmm sounds a little like syphilis, doesn't it? what is it, in 25 words or less.

getting ready for our pistol shooting session tomorrow. DH feels we should have a firearm when we travel in out of the way locations. so a friend has volunteered to teach us a little using his guns before we decide if we want to go ahead with the idea or not. I'm lukewarm on the subject and think it could be way more trouble than it's worth but I'm trying to keep an open mind. so call me annie Oakley or something...

Good morning,

Windy as all get out today, gusts up to 65 mph, part of our siding is flapping around. Joy.

Valerie, Sorry to hear about your Mom, where do they live again? I used to be an avid shooter, actually did this type of sport...called IPSC ( International Practicl Shooters Confederation) style. These are the types of matches that I shot.of course I was never good enough to be in this catagory, but had a lot of fun doing it and travelling around to matches . John and I spent a lot of weekends on ranges like this back in the day

Garance, I bet that Google privacy stuff was exactly what it was, too coincidental that this all came out at the same time. I used to stay signed in here all the time, but stopped doing that after my second "bout" with a nasty virus. I sign in each time, then before I shut down my computer, I run this program called CCleaner, which removes all cookies, temporary files etc that get put on your computer whenever you go on line. That is how Google was tracking people, their purchases etc. Scary stuff.

Plans for the day include Keegan's agility class, HouseMax, and my cousin is coming over this afternoon to look at my eliptical, I am giving it to her since I never use it and it takes up too much room in the basement.

What is everyone up to today?

wow Deb, those are some serious shooters! I think target shooting would be fun, never took an opportunity to learn much about it. I haven't shot many "real" guns, but am pretty good with a pellet gun. gray squirrels invade my bird feeders and get blasted! we have native squirrels that aren't a problem, but the big gray invaders get to meet their demise if they don't stay off the feeder.

mother lives in Milwaukee. I called doctors office yesterday hoping to get a couple more tests run off the existing blood sample but too long ago. got an order to have it redone in a week or two. if the weather is bad my brother can't maneuver her easily since she is becoming more and more impaired. snow and ice are a big factor.

my other aunt is being moved to another city to get cared for by her other son. she needs more care than she can get at assisted living and is showing signs of dementia. so sad. it's too bad there isn't a legal way to let people pass without all this intervention.

Did cardio supersets and the ab portion of T barre yesterday. unfortunately not feeling great this morning. tired and achy, headache. airways feel sensitive and irritated. might be getting a cold. I loaded up on vit c, zinc, antihistamine and hope I can hold it off. we are going out for lunch after our shooting session so probably will skip the workout today and try to get some rest.

Hi Deb, Valerie and any other posters--

This morning was Housemax. Grrrading this afternoon.

Syllepsis is when two senses of the object do make strict sense with the verb as well as each other, as in Make love not war or Make up and out, not trouble. You can do funny stuff with this in heroic couplets like Pope uses in The Rape of the Lock.

DH has quite a few guns, and he uses them on varmints around here--groundhogs in the garden. I am so myopic I doubt I would be any good with a gun.

We will be doing comfort Sunday again tomorrow night. I don't know what the menu is yet. I also have 50-50 from netflix, which received some good reviews.

Have a great weekend everyone!
