Good morning everyone. still raining here. this is getting old. supposed to be sunny and dry Tuesday and wed. I cant remember if I said yesterday, but did a 30 min spin premix before dinner. made an unusual dish with garbanzos, broccoli, sweet potatoes, tofu, and a sauce with maple syrup, lemon juice and tahini. It was a " Buddha bowl" with sauce separate so I used only a small amount. sauce was good and very flavorful. I liked it, DH didn't. oh well. will make easier today.

Good Afternoon Ladies. Another rest day for me. I find that I feel much better during the week if I give myself sufficient rest days. Some weeks that’s one day and other times I need two days.

Valerie, we still have rain, too. I tried a new recipe from Bon Appétit using royal corona beans with farro and mushrooms. I was worried that my husband wouldn’t like it, but he surprised me. The dish was delicious. I have been reading about these Royal Corona beans from Rancho Gordo in various publications and blogs for a while and finally ordered some. They are so much better than any white beans that I have tried.

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Carolyn I never tried those beans. I like beans a lot and have heard of ranch Gordo.
How did you order them? From the ranch itself.?
? I agree .....where is everyone today. I am taking today off too. We planned on yard work but it was too rainy so I did a Costco run and cooked some things for the week

Valerie, I ordered through their website, www.ranchogordo.com. This was my second time ordering from them. I ordered a variety of beans two years ago, but I didn’t know about the Royal Coronas then. They are very large white beans and they cook up nice and creamy. The shipping is free with orders over $50.00.

$50 worth of beans??? :p oh I guess I will pay shipping....! thanks. I remember reading about these long ago probably in Eating Well magazine. or maybe cooking Light. definitely a while ago. I don't often cook my own beans, takes too long, but sometimes for special dishes.
I used to shop at a coop that had all kinds of beans but the local store didn't make it. I used to try a whole range of beans. I glanced at the web site and I used to be able to get some of those locally. now grocery stores only carry a very few, pinto, kidney, black, small white. I will give a few of these a try. I remember making cranberry beans one time, and yellow eye beans.

Hi Everyone,

Friday I did Athletic Training and Yin Yoga, Saturday was a rest day and yesterday I did a 45 minute Peloton Climb ride.
I'm off work until Thursday, then I work 4 days in a row. HD is starting to increase hours a little for spring. I'll still be working 4 hour shifts on weekdays but will be working more hours on weekends once it gets really busy.

Valerie-The Buddha bowl sounds good. Sorry about the rain. I hope it's nicer this week. Have you tried REI for capris? I noticed that they seem to have more yoga and workout clothing lately but I didn't really look to closely at the styles. Athleta is nice too. I have a pair of longer tights from there that I really like.

Carolyn-I agree about rest days. I was really sore from doing Athletic Training on Friday and needed to take an extra rest day on Saturday. I may take another day or two this week too. The Rancho Gordo site looks interesting. They have some nice gift boxes. The hot sauce one looks good.

Hi to Deb, Diane Sue & Lori!

Have a great week!

Judy

the buddha bowl was from a site called minimalistbaker. DH is not fond of the "bowl" concept. I like it. the best part was a tahini sauce.
it was 1/4 cup tahini, 1TB lemon juice, 1TB maple syrup and warm water to make it pourable.

I found a different brand of tahini this time. I used to use the orange can. it separated and would not mix together again. this brand ( israeli) was in a small plastic jug. it was ground sesame seed only. it mixed and stayed mixed after being in the frig, at least so far. sauce had a lot of flavor so I didn't overuse it. the amount of water will vary. it was like adding liquid to peanut butter. water kept mixing in and mixing in and the sauce did not thin quickly. add slowly, mix, until its what you want. the rest of the bowl could be whatever you want. I used sweet potato, broccoli, seasoned garbanzos, seasoned tofu, arranged all on a plate. it was pretty. then drizzle with tahini sauce. I will try to find the actual recipe later although I didn't exactly follow it except for the sauce.
working in the garden wall today. finally not raining. the landscape bricks are about 60 lbs each so DH does more than I do. he gets so bad tempered doing this type of project I cant always spend a lot of time with him. he yells, swears, throws things. its an annoying project because we didn't do it right the first time ( probably 20 years ago) and need to redo.

I haven't tried REI for capris. I will look. Athleta usually notes the height of the rise and has more close to waist level. last pants I tried from REI I sent back because of this. Title 9 has had the same problem, wont stay up. not buying pants that don't! my workout clothes have this issue, some worse than others. Im used to always wearing a belt with street clothes but not with workout things. I'm so tired of hitching up.

This morning I did ICE Rock ‘m Sock ‘m Kickbox for 48 minutes and 371 calories burned. My average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 172.

Judy, great job with Athletic Training and Yin Yoga. I’m not surprised that your work schedule will pick up soon. Our local store is getting busy again.

Valerie, I hope that you can find workout capris that you like. I’m not a fan of the idea of bowls. While I might like the ingredients, I prefer to have them spread out on my plate. A good sauce can really make a dish.

Diane Sue, I hope that you are doing well.

Hello to Deb.

Carolyn, I do the bowl concept but on a plate. I want things next to each other, it works great on a plate. it was called sweet potato chickpea buddha bowl. I am going to do the leftovers tonight adding a little grilled chicken to fill out the empty spaces. this site had a lot of interesting looking choices.

I will look at several of the sites we've talked about as spring styles come in. If I lose the pounds I want to lose, fit becomes a bigger issue since weight comes off my midsection first, and things slide down more.

Good afternoon,

Sunday I did Lite PHA 2, 49 minutes, 282 calories, and today I did Walk Fit Vol 1 32 minutes, 237 calories.

Valerie, great article! very scary about prescriptions and accuracy these days. I remember when I was very young, my Mom used to send me to the corner drugstore to buy her cigarettes, ( where the pharmacist was the owner, and the clerk as well), and he used to wrap everything that was purchased in brown paper. Not sure why, maybe he didn't have bags? He had time to do that, and actually Talk to the people that came into the store. Like Carolyn mentioned, Lite PHA 2 uses the step as a weight bench. with 3 risers, and then the top for some of the leg work. I found that a pain, to keep taking the step off the risers, so just use the topper from the high step which is easier to move back and forth. Yoga pants are a good alternative, not too clingy.

Diane Sue, nice job on the KCM & JS workouts!

Carolyn, nice job on Stacked Sets and the JS yoga practice. I tried looking that one up on YouTube, you must have it on a DVD. It was Walgreen's that shorted John on a couple of prescriptions, we switched to Rite Aid, they are still separate here.

Judy, good job on the Peloton rides! That KCM 5 day strength sounds interesting. It's a part of her streaming service? Didn't she recently put out new DVD's? Did you get them?

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

I don't remember if I mentioned it or not but I resubscribed to Cathe Live & On Demand again a couple of weeks ago. I want to try out some of the Live workouts I haven't done. This morning I did Live #214, Total Body Giant Sets #2. I liked this one a lot and will do it again. It has 6 rounds, 2 are lower body, 3 are upper body and the last one is abs/core

Deb-Great job with PHA 2. That's one of my favorites. Yes, the 5 day strength routine is part of KCM's Raw streaming. I did get her latest DVDs, Strong & Lean and Cardio Sculpt Fitness. I think she may be working on more new ones but I'm not sure.

Carolyn-Nice job with Rock'm Sock'm! I was surprised how quickly HD went into spring mode, but it makes sense that they need to be prepared since everyone will be shopping for garden related items by March.

Valerie-I hope you can find some capris that you like.

Saturday I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong and Have Fun Step and Stride, 30 minutes, 158 calories, heart rate 124/155, 3,432 steps followed by Raw 5 day Strength day 5 stretch, 36 minutes, 37 calories, 79/102 heart rate, 70 steps. Total time was 67 minutes, 195 calories, 3,502 steps. The rest of the day was spent helping our daughter with fixing things to sell her house. Had a break and stayed up to late watching the last Terminator movie.
Sunday morning I did Jessica Smith Gentle Yoga neck and shoulders, went to church and went back to my daughters house to help.
This morning I had my grandchildren here since my daughter had a professional day at school. So, I was entertaining the 5 year old most of the time. I did manage to get in Step Boss PHA 2 Timesaver #6, lower body only, 33 minutes, 105 calories, 102/134 heart rate, used Cathe's weights, 1,425 steps. I finished with the Step Boss Bonus floor stretch, 10 minutes, 9 calories.
Tomorrow I have a visual field test and vision tests. Things have been really busy lately and I have more appointments coming up next week. Sorry I am not here much lately.

Valerie, I am not a real fan of tofu. I have tried using it in recipes and never liked it. Other than in a recipe dessert that I put together myself mainly for my husband and somehow made tofu work well in it with an apple topping. He told me just don't tell him what is in it LOL Because he liked it so much he had to have me make it for a group we had for barbecue dinner once. I won't wear workout pants that I have to keep pulling up. That is miserable. I do have some that I should just toss because of that and they just sit in the drawer.

Carolyn, I am finding I need a few more rest days here and there. I am doing better. My knee is not hurting so that is why I chose lower body today. Still fighting with the neck and shoulder issue. I guess it is just ongoing and I am very tired from lack of sleep.

Judy, nice job on the workouts. How do you feel about adding in some extra hours again? Will that just be temporary? I have thought about getting Cather Live again so I could do some of the newer workouts. Maybe if I ever get past the neck and shoulder issues I can.

Deb, like Carolyn said Kelly did do the new workouts one is Strong and Lean which is a weight workout and a Kickboxing workout with premixes where you can combine the workouts. The other that is Cardio Sculpt Fitness is like some she did on her streaming where you can wear a weight best and use dumbbells. These are low impact. She is taking suggestions and putting out ideas for new workouts and she keeps putting up new workouts on her streaming channel. It is nice that she put her 30 minutes to fitness workouts on her Raw channel. I miss the premixes though. Most of them have both workouts one and two back to back on the streaming. She has a few just premixes there. Her latest dvds though, I believe she called one on one and not 30 minutes to fitness. They are not on the Raw streaming channel. PHA 2 is a really good workout.

Today I did LiTE Pyramid Pump Upper Body which was 49 minutes and 230 calories burned. Average heart rate was 115 and maximum heart rate was 159. It’s been a few months and I had forgotten that this one is tough.

Deb, great job with LiTE PHA 2. The JS workouts that I use are from dvds. I will occasionally do one of her YouTube workouts, but I prefer the dvds.

Diane Sue, good job getting in a few workouts with a very busy schedule. I hope that your neck and shoulder are getting better. I bought a new heating pad to replace the one that we have had for 25+ years and it really helped my husband’s shoulder. He had a minor injury from working out, but was making such a fuss about it!

Judy, that’s great that you are trying Cathe Live again. It’s nice to be able to do something different.

Hello to Valerie.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a 90 minute Peloton Power Zone ride then 30 minutes of easy cycling for a cool down.

Diane Sue-I have mixed feelings about adding more hours. I have been very comfortable with working short shifts and only 2-3 days a week. I will not be working the kind of hours that I was last year. That was way too much. It is only temporary too, through July, then my availability will go back down.

Carolyn-Great job with Pyramid Pump! I'm enjoying the Cathe Live subscription. I have a list of workouts that I want to try out.

Hi to Deb & Valerie!

Judy

We did a 2 hr hike this morning. fair amount of up and down hill. suddenly it's spring. flowers, plants leafing out. not done with cold and rain but a nice break. we will have 3-4 days of nice weather. all the stores are filled with garden things and plants. stopped at Lowes today and got a palette of landscape bricks to finish off the wall.

Judy you amaze me. I could not spin for 90 min on threat of my life.

I usually like tofu and tempeh. it doesn't have much flavor but I like the texture and it fills me up, plus I feel I'm eating lower on the food chain.

I've had issues with low rise ever since they got popular. I am hopeful this spring workout gear will have more waist high pants. Im working very hard on weight loss so that will throw another element into the mix, depending on where I lose. my legs will always be bulky and that is a factor in fit.

This morning I did Step Boss I Max 4 plus abs, 54 minutes, 229 calories, heart rate 112 average, 146 max ( I really question this) 4,408 steps. I then did the extended chair stretch, 16 minutes, 17 calories. Total time 70 minutes, 4,424 steps, 246 calories. I went for my eye tests today. I am getting set up for some surgery on the drooping eyelids that cast shadows. Hopefully my vision is a lot clearer when it is done.

Valerie, I never can understand why they thought low rise anything was comfortable. I don't like walking around feeling like my pants are falling down. I am in the process of getting some jeans that are not so big that I need a belt to hold them up. I ordered one pair from Maurices. They are just like what I had before. The Lucky jeans I got at TJ Max are miserable and I have to hold them up with a belt. I think as I get older the more I am about comfort rather than the latest style trend. I have bulbs that are popping up in my planter by the door.

Judy, that is nice that the hours will go back down. I am sure it is nice to make the money, but also nice to have some time for other things that you like to do.

Carolyn, my heating pad is really old too. It can get pretty hot. The ties that were on it fell off when I was using it recently. I should get a new one. I found the extra foam pad for moist heat the other day in a different cabinet when I was cleaning things out.

Today I did a timesaver premix from IMAX 4. That was 27 minutes and 212 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Judy, I’m also amazed by the length of your rides. I can never get beyond 45 minutes.

Hello to Deb, Valerie, and Diane Sue.

I remember "upgrade your appearance" programs on why low rise pants made women look better. I remember them showing a two hands, one above and the other lower, showing if the pants were "shorter" from waist to crotch, it made your butt look smaller. I will keep watching as spring styles arrive.

in ongoing sister issues, sister went ahead, got another large dog from the humane society or someplace a few weeks ago. I was not involved. shortly after the dog got out her front door and ran across a busy road, but she caught up to it and brought her back. I scolded her about needing a decent pinch collar and some training so the dog would sit, stay, and come. I said the next time the dog might not be so lucky, and any discomfort from the pinch collar was better than being run over. this is only a few days ago. well, I was unfortunately right. the dog got away again yesterday, out the front door while she had the door open talking to a delivery person. ran across the same busy road and got hit and instantly killed. I was feeling bad for her until she started going on about it was the delivery drivers fault and had already called Amazon to complain, and wanted me to follow through and get her some compensation. I could not believe what I was hearing! I'm sorry she lost another animal, but she needs to control her animals and not try to blame someone else. Sheesh!. crazy!.

we wanted to ski this morning but it didn't work out. will try again tomorrow.

My workout is finished. I had to go run errands that I did not do since they dilated my eyes at the eye doctor yesterday. I started with Kelly Coffey's One on One Cardio Sculpt Fitness dvd, premix low impact and lower body (lower body portion is body weight) I wore my 4# vest, 29 minutes, 138 calories, heart rate 122/156, 2,512 steps. I then did Kelly's Raw Stretch and Tone new workout, 33 minutes, 37 calories, heart rate 81/105, 115 steps, wearing 3# ankle weights throughout. I finished off with Ice Pyramid Pump triceps, biceps, and stretch, 18 minutes, 27 calories, 82/102 heart rate, 199 steps. I used Cathe's weights.
Total time was 80 minutes, 202 calories, 2,826 steps.

Carolyn, you and I used to be about the same with our Fitbits. I am sure mine is way off right now. I keep putting workouts into my fitness pal and can see the difference. Not sure how to fix the problem. I just have been going with whatever it says. Nice work on the premix.

Valerie, some styles just don't work for everyone. Like the tuck in the shirt thing that seemed to be a bit of trend recently. Those who are short waisted do not look good with their shirt tucked in. Particularly when they are high waisted pants. Really the look is not good on a lot of people. I guess you sister likes the company of the dogs since she stays at home most of the time. Too bad she wasnt prepared. I used to step outside and shut the door behind me when I lived in our last home because my dog Mudd would take off like a shot at the first opportunity. It used to make me so mad. Even with the electronic collar she did not cooperate. We were not in a busy area though. She would come back as soon as she saw you were not coming after her. I think she liked the chase. Too bad her dog got hit. I wouldn't help file a complaint. The poor driver will probably lose the job because of her negligence. Another reason a cell phone would help. She would know the approximate time of delivery and could put the dog in a room with the door closed ahead of time.
