Good morning & Happy February!

The plan isto start month 2 of the 2 Month Ripped W/ HIIT rotation today I think. Need to check where I left off LOL.

Lori, if you figure out how to watch CBS shows on the iPad, let me know. For some reason I can only watch them on John's laptop or my desktop computer. I don't think the networks allow or are compatible with Apple products for some reason. I would try it before getting rid of all your cable stuff. It doesn't bother me too much since The Good Wife is the only network TV I watch.

Valerie, good that headache did not materialize. Yes, that switch from cable to antenna can be daunting, and i bet most people just give up and stay with the high cable bills! You beat them at their game!

Hi to Judy, Josie & the "all refreshed & Relaxed Spa Lady"!

Stay warm!

Good morning ladies!

Today will be cathe live kickboxing and barre followed up with SB's Strong back.

Deb..thanks for the tip, with no CBS. I'll look into this. Next weekend we plan to go to best buy and radio shack for information. I really liked the LIHIL workout with the abs throughout. Doing the abs gave you a little rest inbetween all the leg work.

Valerie...I remember the ordeal of getting your antenna up and running. That's why I figured I'd ask you as you could tell me what not to do!!!

About to make breakfast for DH and I then after cleanup - work out , some house max, and then Football! More snow coming tonight. Not happy about this. Expecting about a foot. Ugh!!!

Lori we definitely had some things that didn't work. putting up the antenna was tough and I'm not sure I'd try it until there's no snow and ice on the roof. it's probably 3'x10' . it should be grounded and if your ground is frozen that may not be possible until later in the year. antenna was not that heavy but clumsy to handle. definitely a 2 person job. we are lucky ....most stations here broadcast from almost the same spot in seattle so if you get the antenna pointed right, all are available. we also did not discontinue cable until we'd tried it and were sure it worked well enough.

doing some kind of workout this morning after it gets light. maybe a trail run, or if it's raining, a spin.

Good morning, & Happy Groundhog Day!
ghog.gif

Today I did Low Impact HIIT 1, w/Bonus Abs 1.

We got about 6 -8 inches of snow overnight and we are supposed to get the same today during the day. Joy.

Lots of flights cancelled etc....and it is still coming down.

Lori, you may be able to figure out how to get CBS or others on the iPad...I actually signed up for the CBS Watch Live...thing....and it never worked. I Googled it, and all kinds of complaints about how watching on an Ipad was horrible....if you got it at all. I only have the regular $14.99 antenna that you hook up to the TV and I get all the basic stations with that, all in HD.

Lynda, I hope you got home safely and can tell us all about the Spa Week!

Hi to Valerie, Josie, & Judy,

Work, then class tonight, unless it is cancelled because of weather....

Drive safe and stay warm!

Good Morning Everyone,

We got over a foot of snow yesterday. I'm afraid to look at the forecast, but probably more snow this week too.

Lori-I wasn't on the spin bike with Shadow but it does kind of look like that. Good luck with all the snow. This is turning out to be quite a winter!

Deb-Great job with RWH rotations! You are doing an awesome job with this series! All the schools are closed here and lots of cancellations.

Valerie-I have a TV/DVD player in the basement too. I only use it for workout DVDs. It's a basic TV and can't connect to the internet. I've been using the MacBook or iPad for streaming the Cathe workouts.

Hi to Lynda & Josie!

Good morning ladies!

Snow day today! Office closed and I am so thankful. Was up really late last night watching the game and all the post celebrations. Snow is really coming down. We are expecting about a foot today then more to come in a few days. Wow enough is enough already!

Not sure what the rotation I have been doing calls for today. I might skip it since I have a ton of snow max to do later today.

Deb....is your antenna in the house hooked up to your TV and you get local channels? I think that is what you are saying?

Valerie....we have so much snow right now there is no way we could install anything outside. If Deb has the one in the house then we will try this out first and if it works great if not then we'll do the outside antenna in the Spring.

Judy....schools are all closed here too. We have more coming like you!!! My kitties and doggies love me having snow days. They all have not left my side. I get up and move to a room they all come. Very cute.

Hi to Josie and Lynda!

Lori that is what I was thinking.... we purposely did the antenna when it was dry and sunny... NOT a good project in cold slippery conditions plus grounding it we had to run cable roof to ground, and bury it. as far as I can tell it's about location, how far you are from transmission towers and pointing the antenna directly at those towers. we are a good distance, terrain is not flat. we have a lot of trees and hills. crawling around on a roof with tools and metal tie downs is not a good winter job. sometimes the signal is strong from a channel and other times weak and pixilated, for no particular reason. we don't know if the stations change the signal strength? but definitely an easier job when dry, warm and at least 2 people depending on antenna size, pitch of roof.

we watched most of the game too. congrats to the Pats. a good strong game on both sides. I am no expert but I will ponder WHAT the Hawks were thinking with that fatal pass in the last few seconds. I imagine they are thinking about it too....

I did a full Pedal power spin ... I can't believe how much better I've gotten in these few weeks by doing it over and over. it is the BEST workout to get my heart rate up and without impact. I use a strap HRM to keep heart rate where I want it..... it's hard to regulate as closely on elliptical or treadmill & stay in this zone... 140-155, but spin really works for me. I see instantly up or down heart rate numbers and cadence numbers. those of you spinning.... I don't have "fast" legs, but I can now reach the low 100's. it helps so much, though,,in the surges to see the numbers go up right away from maybe 65 to 72. it's not as easy to tell on the other two machines. the display responds slower, and with the treadmill I need to grip the handles for a reading and that drops my heart rate and speed.
then did shoulder "exercises" and core 1 from flex train. I think I'm done with PT. I will keep this up for a while and start carefully phasing in upper body workouts with light weights.

Judy my TV is an old tube one but it works fine with the DVD. we get channel 9 stations called "Create" some interesting things, and several more channels that I don't watch. I'm honestly not sure how those channels are received. far fewer than our main TV but enough to be watchable if I want.

Good morning,

It's a balmy 6 degrees here right now.

A rest day for me today, I tried to sleep in but wasn't able to. The dogs had to go out at 3:20, John took them out and I slept for about another hour.

Judy, we got your weather yesterday, probably about 10-12 inches of snow. We can usually predict what we will be getting tomorrow by what Detroit has today. Are you still working at the vitamin shop?

Lori, congratulations on the SB win for your Pats! I didn't watch the game but heard all about the winning play, it sounded really exciting. Yes, my antenna is hooked up to the TV directly, in the house. It's kind of like the old fashioned ones we had as kids...( at least like "I " had as a kid...:) LOL)...We also had one when I was a kid on the roof that had a controller in the house that you could use to move it around so it got a better signal, like Valerie installed. Kylee is like your "kids", she goes wherever I go, even into the bathroom.

Valerie, good job on the spin workout! I have the same, a really old TV in my workout area hooked up to a really old DVD player...LOL....the TV is not hooked up to anything that would allow any regular stations to come in...it's just basically the screen for the DVD player. Works find for me for workouts.

Hi to Josie, & Lynda,

Work, then home to

Stay warm!

Good morning ladies!

Got up early to workout but not feeling it. My shoulder is a little sore with all the shoveling I did. We ended up with 23 inches on top of the tons we already had! My husband stayed close to the restaurant so it was just me dealing with this crap. I went out 5 times to shovel. I was exhasted by the end of the night. Our office opens at 10am today so this should give me time to get out there again and shovel some more so I can get out of the driveway. Shoveling is a tough workout!

Deb...this weekend I am going to buy an indoor antenna and try one out. I have seen a few on amazon where you actual put the antenna near the window then a cable runs to TV. But it sounds like yours is like we had as kids right on the back of TV. We also had rabbit ears growing up and I remember using coat hangers and foil too if need be!!

Valerie...with the recent storm it may be June before we can think about installing an outside one. Good job on the pedal power! Sounds like your shoulder is coming along well.

The game was very up and down. Great game. Like you Valerie we have no clue as to what they were thinking with that last call!! Oh well a win is a win!

Have a great day ladies!

we don't have an indoor controller, antenna points where it points! we can change direction by getting up on the roof and rotating it manually and then checking inside for reception. I remember a "rabbit ears" set up on top of the TV. we never did satellite anywhere. that has the same issue, need a clear pathway at the satellite, it's to the southwest but we aren't "clear" in that direction. we always went to cable but that was when cable was a better deal and there were actually channels with content.

Lori shoveling is always a good workout, isn't it? that is definitely enough for upper body! I'm not missing it this winter. we picked up our shower door and carrying it to the car, and then upstairs was a bit of a workout. (just kidding myself) it was heavy and big. we got a heavy glass door. this morning we're going to pick out countertop material. that has turned into the biggest PITA of the project.

didn't workout yesterday, ended up spending a long time getting the door, Costco, etc, and it was late when we got done.

we'd been watching the series "Justified" not sure what season but I've gotten too annoyed with this one. I can't keep characters straight and give up. I apparently didn't pay close enough attention early on but I didn't care that much. so we are bailing on this one.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

I didn't do anything this morning because I was still on Pacific coast time when we finally made it back from Albany at about midnight. I stayed up until 3:30 unpacking while DH slept elsewhere because he had to get up so early to take pigs to Eagle Bridge. I did manage to get up at 8:30, so maybe tomorrow I will be back on east coast time. Very pleasantly surprised when I weighed myself this morning. I lost 7 lbs. and am down to 129, where I haven't been in years. Great food at Rancho la Puerta and I thought I was stuffing myself, but it's such clean eating.

Let's see: I went on 4 hikes, from 4.5 miles to 7, all in the early morning before breakfast (they do have some fruit and coffee at the departure pt.). I did a dance class--sometimes 2--every day (including a hilarious strip tease class), 4 sculpt and strengthen classes (I am going to try to find a flex bar, a piece of equipment that can really burn when you bend it) level 2, 2 stretch classes, 2 classes with tennis balls for massage, a meditation class (om-ing just reminds me of Allen Ginsburg though, so I prefer my Search Inside Yourself book), a feldenkrais class (don't really get this one). Loved the whole experience, although I don't think I like massages with all that oil or facials either. Too much oily stuff. Terrific instructors. All 45 minute classes so you could get to the next one. A lot of fun with my two friends, who both tried more new-agey stuff like watsui and crystal balls, drumming, and chanting. One of them fell asleep during the crystal balls. I was going to do a Hydro-Fit class, but one of my friends did this and said she just kept flipping up in the water with these buoyant things on her ankles. Sounded hilarious--with people flipping all over the place. A great big dance party the final night. A crazy bingo night with a stand-up comedian and zany prizes. A sociologist, Pepper Schwartz, with a lot of survey information about happy couples, which I thought was pretty soft in terms of its intellectual reliability, but amusing anyway. I didn't do any crafts (because I do a lot of sewing and knitting at home), but there was sculpting, yarn painting, etc. There were a few days where I was never out of my original workout clothes. I brought home one DVD by an instructor I liked a lot--"Hot Latin Cardio"--and treated myself to a gorgeous bracelet with a big chunk of amber. In San Diego, we went to the beach for one day when we arrived, spent a lot of time in Balboa Park before our bus to the spa, came back to gorge on a very naughty meal at a fancy restaurant, and yesterday, walked about 8500 steps (my smart phone counts steps, stairs--who knew?) at the Safari Park where the wild animals have a big spacious area to wander through. The weather was an incredible break from THIS. Arrived on time in Albany to 0 degrees. It's about 15 now. Watched the second half of the Super Bowl. Yeah Pats!!!!! I think it was just football karma--no way the Seahawks were going to get so lucky again with that crazy juggled ball that never hit turf.

I will have to catch up with all of your posts, but this is my little review. I really loved it and may do it again. I just wish it weren't so far away for me.

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Lean Legs and Abs. I liked the bonus barre segment and the core section.

Lori-schools were closed again today. I guess the roads were so icy from the temps last night.
We have more snow coming tonight, 3 inches or so. Now that it's started, it looks like the snow is going to keep coming for awhile.
I love spending snow days with the cats! They follow me around too, from room to room.

Valerie-great job with Pedal Power! Cathe's spin workouts always get my heart rate up. They are as hard or harder than any of my 1 hour Spinervals.

Deb-I don't work at the vitamin store anymore. I don't remember if I posted much about it or not, but I quit last September. It wasn't a good job to begin with, and only part time, with declining hours so I decided it was time for me to move on.

Lynda-Rancho la Puerta sounds wonderful! It's great that you were able to get so many classes in and that you had such good food!

Hi to Josie!

Good morning & Happy Hump Day!

I am off today, 2 appointments, nails, and one with my financial guy at the bank. I need to get the low down on drawing payments from my IRA's. Workout will (hopefully!) be a little later. HIIT Legs is on the schedule.

Lori, 23 inches! WOW....that is way more than we got here. Maybe 12, or so, and a little more last night. We would be fine if the city plows didn't plow everything at the base of the driveway, once we clear it out.

Valerie, must have missed something...what door did you get a Costco?

Lynda, that week sounds wonderful! All those choices of workouts, and to even come back from a lovely vacation and to have lost weight! Was it all women or are there men there too?

Judy, I should look at that leg workout...I haven't done that one in a while. Do you have Cathe's Tower thing to use for the barre part? Did you get a different job after the vitamin store? There was a recent article in the paper on a crackdown on stores like GNC, Target, Walgreens selling stuff that claimed to have herbal supplements with some kind of medicinal value, and when tested I guess they didn't even have the ingredients in them. Not good.

Hi to Josie,

Stay warm!

Deb...Thanks for the link to antenna. Going to check this one out too. I like the price!

Lynda your time at the ranch sounded absolutley wonderful!!!!

I'll check in later.

Deb, I was referring to the glass shower door. it comes in 3 big boxes and is quite heavy and long. we got a thicker glass one than the basic builder model. barely fit in the Subaru with the seats down, but being glass, I'm sure there is a lot of packing material on the ends. I heard a brief section on the news last night about the lack of proper ingredients in supplements. interesting to see how this plays out. I take glucosamine and zinc if I'm getting a cold, but nothing else. still, if these companies are not forthright about the ingredients, who knows where it will lead.

we ordered our counter top yesterday, quartz. I wanted a solid material and undermount sinks. it will be a few weeks because I'm pretty sure we are going to try the California trip again maybe end of this week.

Lori if you want more antenna info I can supply it. I think the brand was winegard but this is definitely an outside, large metal roof antenna.

Judy I did one of the older spin disks yesterday think it was cathe's first one. it doesn't have the minute countdown on the screen, a feature I find helpful. I don't want to do the same one over and over and suddenly get sick of it. I like the music in this one better. will do the flex train one next.
Lynda that sounds lovely. and quite the weight loss while eating well! Pepper Schwartz is I think from the Univ of Washington... she used to be a regular on the local TV/radio talk shows and maybe had a newspaper column. always had an interesting perspective. our CA trip got cancelled but we are going to try again for some of that sunshine as soon as we get some details worked out.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did my new dvd of Manuel (one of the instructors as Rancho la Puerta) called "Hot Latin Cardio" (60 min.). It was fun.

Deb, I would say it was about 25% men--mostly husbands, although one woman brought her two sons.

Not as cold here today, but it doesn't sound like winter is going away for a LONG time--more snow and cold temps predicted. I really miss that warm weather in Tecate and San Diego.

An antenna here wouldn't work at all here because of the mountains. It took forever to even get cable here because we are set so far back from the road. It wasn't until the governor was living next door that they put in cable (Thank you, Jane Swift!).

Valerie, we heard that Dr. Pepper, as we came to call her, is doing some kind of reality show where she marries couples who are total strangers--she picks them. Do you know anything about that?? I'm sure you will love some of that California sun when you get there.

ttfn

Just checking back in... I haven't known what Dr. Pepper has been up to in years. she and Dr. Jennifer James. Both used to be regulars in local TV/ radio but haven't heard her mentioned for a long time. I might not be tuning in to wherever she is making her living these days. Most of the morning talk shows aren't "on" anymore, and even radio doesn't have much of the kind of talk that used to be common.
It will be raining in CA when we first get there! they are getting a "pineapple express" storm that we will also be getting up here. we are in a wet pattern right now and I'm looking forward to a break even if it rains all the way there. I hope they get a good dose but not enough for major mud slides. we are taking the mt bikes.

Hi Ladies,

I did not watch the the game, I'm not a fan of football. I ran on Saturday and took a day off on Sunday. I started the beach boot camp on Monday and I loved it, Tuesday I went spinning and the trainer came over and today was boot camp. I'm down 5.5 pounds since I started on January 13.

Lynda, the spa sounds great! Did you take any cooking classes?

Valerie, be safe on your trip. I hope that you get some good weather.

Lori, I can't imagine living in all that snow. You must be so strong fron all that snowmax:)

Judy, are you not working at all now? I agree about Carhe's Spin DVD's. they do get my heart pumping :)

Deb, I love beauty days. I may go and get a Chinese foot massage later on today. Lynda, I'm with you on the facials and regular massages, I don't care for all those oils they use.

Tomorrow I will be running and working out with the trainer.

Josie

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a different bike workout. This one was "Rides-Florida". It's similar to a Spinerval but more virtual riding
rather than watching a class. The video was of a group training ride. This one got my heart rate up pretty good too.

Deb-yes, I have a turbo tower. I found it on Craig's List a few months ago. I really like using it for barre work.
I didn't find another job yet. I'm taking some time off this year and just trying to get caught up on things at home
for now. I saw that article too, and unfortunately, I'm not surprised. I really think the vitamin industry needs to be
regulated a little more strictly. I imagine even some of the higher end supplement companies are guilty of this kind
of deception.

Valerie- I tried Cathe's first spin dvd, Cycle Max, and I didn't like it as much as Ride or Pedal Power. I like having the
countdown timer on the screen.

Josie- I didn't watch the game either. DH and I aren't really into football. Great job with all your workouts!

Hi to Lori & Lynda!
