Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/28

Good morning & Happy New Year!

Today I did RWHIIT Chest, Shoulders & Triceps ( Time save with no Finishers).

Kylee's urine sample showed "rods" which are a type of bacteria...the "very concerning" type according to our vet. He is sending the sample out for a culture, and in the meantime, starting her on another antibiotic. Good news was that there were no crystals in her urine. Not sure why she had rods, but no crystals. Anyway, after the 21 days on the med, they want us to bring her in for a "sterile" sample, where they draw it out of the bladder, no chance for any foreign particles etc. to be in there. He also said he wants to make sure that we treat the infection/kidney issue before the "dribbling" one, which he thinks is a muscle control of the bladder issue. There is a med for that, but he doesn't want to mask any of the other signs with starting her on that med. Keeping our fingers crossed that the culture results are not so bad.

Sorry for the long post.

Lynda, we are having the same weather today, so cold and the winds are horrible. It makes you not want to go anywhere outside. I feel for your DH and having to tend the animals in this weather. As for a resolution, I really want to seriously work on my weight and cholesterol.

Lori, building closets? how does that work? You are very industrious when it comes to getting things done around the house! My list of projects keeps growing, but most are for after retirement. I may find that working was easier! LOL.

Valerie, we have X=Country skis, but it's been years since we had them out. It's so cold, I hate even the thought of it. I kind of agree with your DH, schedule the next mammo after January 1st to avoid any holiday delays if there has to be a follow up done.

Dinner at my brother's tonight....I hate to even think about going out..

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Take care,

Happy new year everyone!

This morning I did ba, sh, bis (52:28).

Great meal last night. Oysters and a lobster salad. My usual Manhattan.

Deb, does this mean Kylee is still peeing involuntarily? I hope it is nothing serious.

Cold and very dry. Dh does not seem as affected by the cold as I am, and he certainly dresses for it.

Lori, I would love to renovate the closets in my boys' former rooms, but I know I would need to hire someone to do it. They still have all these stickers plastering the back of each.

I have not been cross-country skiing in a long time, but I love snowshoeing when we get a good layer. Both are such good exercises, and you warm up fast from the exertion.

Ttfn

Happy New Year Ladies,

My plans went down the drain. Both my DH and ended up getting s sick complements of peanut #1. We were in bed by 8:00 and toasted with a shot of NyQuil ;).

I told my DH and DD that I was going to update my I-Pad instead of keeping the GoPro and they were fine with it.

I will be back later, enjoy your day.

Josie

Deb, it sounds like kylee still has a UTI. rods... just the shape of the bacteria. rods are bar shaped, cocci are round. I don't know if they do a culture and sensitivity on dog urine? they would have to get a clean catch sample to be worth it, not sure how to do that with a dog. I don't know much about doggie vet procedures. Hope this is resolved soon.

Josie total bummer ... kids are such a great source of infections. Hope you're both better in a day or two.

we went for a trail run this morning at a nearby state park. about 45 minutes and hilly. a nice workout. Saw some dolphins off shore just before we ran. must be some kind of good luck sign! very cold and clear and a lovely morning. quiet too. .

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday was legs and today was suppose to be xtrain bis and tris but I felt like a good heaving bag workout.

My closets are easier than it sounds. The wall I choose the way it is built I just needed to install 2 sets of mirrored sliding doors and inside some wired shelves and dowels. I can't wait to start filling it up and organizing.

Deb...poor Kylee. I really hope the test shows good news too. Poor thing. My DH says all the time he hit the jackpot with me! He is so not handy at all and is more than happy to let me do the home improvements! LOL!!

Josie!! Hope you are feeling better. We were not sick but still ended up going to bed around 10pm! When do you get your new Ipad?

Lynda...My DS's room was the same way. All the stickers on the door and posters stapled to the wall! Hope did the closing statement come out that you were writing aboit your SIL? This must have been difficult to write. I can't imagine.

Valerie...i bet the dolphins were beautiful..sounds like you live in an amazing area,

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Today I did a new treadmill workout, it really is an Eliptical workout, but can be used with any cardio equipment. Dinner at my brothers was fun....what else would it be with 6 boys running around like crazy?

Lynda, it's funny...as soon as Kylee gets back on the antibiotics, the peeing stops. Although they say it's a muscle thing, I think it's still the infection. John has snow shoes, he used to go to the gun club and do that...I think I might like that better than x-country skiing.

Josie, hope you feel better!

Valerie, dolphins? wow that is great. You do live in a great area! Do you know why rods are more concerning than the normal round bacteria? for a sterile sample they use a needle into the bladder and draw some out.

Lori, your DH is very lucky! Wired shelves...mmm...where did you get those? similar to Valerie's? my closets are so small, not sure if anything like that would work.

Hi to Judy,

Meeting my friend for breakfast...this must be what retirement feels like! :)

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did the low impact hiit 2 with core 1 (38:22).

Deb, that's fortunate that the involuntary peeing stops. I'm not sure what I would do if it was an ongoing problem. Do they have doggie diapers? I really like snowshoeing better than cross country skiing because of my knees. If I slide the wrong way on skis, I really feel it in my knees.

Ahh, Josie, that's too bad. I have heard that this year's flu vaccine is not all that effective against some strains of the flu. Hope it's just the common cold.

Lori, I have my impact statement written, but the sentencing isn't until later this month and I will have to ask one of my sons to read it in court because I will be at the spa.

Valerie, dolphins are so beautiful. How fortunate for you!

Have a great weekend everyone!

I wish I'd see dolphins closer!!.my chances have mostly been far off because I'm not much of a water sport person. but they are lovely and not uncommon here if you look with binoculars on a calm day. we have a lot of protected salt water.

Deb, cystocentesis is (I think) what it's called. my kitty had a sample taken like that... cats get scared and don't even twitch a muscle..... but I didn't know if doggies were too jumpy for that without sedating them. there are lots of bacteria in all shapes .... many are "normal flora" meaning the varieties of bacteria that would commonly be present ... but sometimes "normal flora" bacteria get into the wrong location and raise havoc. I would guess female dogs urethras are shorter than male dogs, just like in humans, and that is often the portal for infection to take hold. just guessing here, as dogs aren't people but urine should be sterile in the bladder. bacteria can make their way up a short urethra, and once there, grow and multiply. and dogs lick and maybe transfer bacteria from the anal area to the urethra.

Lynda, that's what happens to my knees from skiing at groomed areas. they get so sore because I can't ski with my feet as far apart as others do. I have the same issue with snowshoeing where I have trouble finding narrow enough snowshoes so I don't over stress my knees.

DH is way handier than I am. Lori, I have gotten more clever as time passes, plus we do a lot of things. You were lucky to get lessons early! I like doing projects like this. we will have extra wire shelving and may use it in some other closets. it's easier to use as you get some practice and see how it works. Deb, you do need some tools to do this right and it's easier with two people.

Christmas Shadow.jpg Hi Everyone,

We didn't do anything special for New Year's Eve. DH has decided to remodel the upstairs bathroom so we have been working on that the past couple of days. Tuesday I did a Spinerval, Wednesday I did Muscle Endurance, for my last workout of 2014, Thursday I did STS Squat Rack legs and today I did a Spinerval. Ironically, I was going over all of my 2014 workouts and Muscle Endurance was also my first workout of 2014, on Jan 1st. I did it 44 times in 2014, definitely my favorite Cathe full body workout. I will be starting the RWH + STS Rotation on Monday.

Deb-I hope Kylee's results aren't too bad and that she recovers quickly from whatever is wrong.

Lynda-DH is thinking of moving when he retires. I know he would like to be closer to family (his sister lives there) and he is feeling more that way since his father passed. After reading more about Colorado Springs climate, I'm not as sure that I would want to live there in the winter. Maybe we can compromise and spend winters in a warmer climate. For the New Year, I don't really have any resolutions, but I have a list of goals. They include being able to do body weight dips and pull ups by the end of the year, and finishing at least 4 of the Horizontal Conditioning DVDs I have.

Josie-sorry you got sick :( hope you and your DH are feeling better now.

Valerie-Good luck with your tests on Monday. I can imagine how stressful that is having to wait for the repeat mammogram. I agree with Deb, scheduling in January after the holidays is probably a good idea. In hindsight, I think I should have waited until January to schedule my colonoscopy. If I would have had a problem, I would have had to wait a couple of weeks to get rechecked since the doctor who did it was leaving for vacation the next day. I hadn't even thought about it being so close to the holidays when I scheduled it.

Lori-which RWH rotation did you choose? I chose the one with STS for January, then I think I will try the one with XTrain.

SIL gave us a Christmas hat and tie for the cats. Chino did not like wearing it so we didn't force him, but Shadow didn't mind at all. Thought I would share a photo of her dressed up.

Good morning ladies!

Today it is hiit circuit lower body then going to do Live Cardio Kickboxing then her RWH bonus abs 1. Sounds like a very long workout but I estimate no more than an hour and 15 minutes.

I have been busy the past couple of days working on my parents wedding video. Using Imovie on my Ipad I was able to add music (christina aguilera's Bound to You). I start off with a small clip of them walking out of the church then it moves into pictures of when they were young. Goes back to their wedding, then slides of the wedding, then some family pictures of us when we were all young before my dad passed. Ends with a close up of them. It came out so beautiful. I cried when I first watched the final version. Came out really good considering I have never done something like this before!!! Can't wait for my brothers to see it.

Deb...I bought all the closet stuff at Home Depot. Valerie is right it is easier with 2 people. I have a section that my DS is going to help me with today for this reason. Excited to get organized!

Judy...Shadow is adorable!!!! Loved the picture. I am doing the rotation with Xtrain and enjoying it. When I first started I was doing just the RWH rotation but after my eye thing I decided to switch it up. I love the variety. I still add in here and there but pretty much sticking to it for the past 2 weeks.

Valerie...My DH and I do not work well together at all with home improvements. Don't get me wrong we do them together from time to time and it is nice to have someone a lot stronger then me to help but we just do not flow well when it comes to these kind of projects. We are both very stubborn. But we know this and try and work around it then laugh it off when we are done. Because of this I do most of the stuff on my own when he is working!!! And DS is around today so he will help. :)

Lynda...impact statement. I could not remember what it was called. Very nice that one of your sons will read in your absence. Every now and then I see it on the news and think of you and your family. So very sad.

Josie...hope you are feeling better and up and about!

Have a great weekend all! Housemax, walk chester and closets this weekend for me. What is everyone else doing?

Good morning,

A lazy day yesterday, met my friend for breakfast, then stopped at the dealership to try to figure out the Bluetooth option on my car. It works fine with my phone, but if I want to use the iPod for example, it negates the phone set up and then I have to start all over and set the phone up again.... Blah! Sometimes I hate technology.

Now the peeing is getting worse, she does it when sitting, not lying down....or standing. Not sure of the significance of that. Not sure what to do. They said that it might be 2 separate things, that the peeing is not because of the infection, and it looks like they may be right. Why does it take 21 business days to analyze a dog's urine, and only 48-72 hours for human? By the time they get to it, it will be old urine and how can they tell what's in it?

Lynda, I never liked downhill skiing, or X-country...snow shoes seem to be easier only because of the movement etc. I may need to get doggie diapers....at least for when she is awake and will be sitting.

Valerie, they have taken sterile samples from my dogs before, doesn't seem to be an issue. You are right about the bacteria getting up there easily on a female, especially if they have loose bladder muscle control.

Judy, love the pick! I can't imagine a cat keeping that stuff on! :)

Josie, hope you feel better.

Lori, we must have been simul-posting, that video sounds lovely! You are so creative and technically adept!

Lots of HouseMax to do the rest of the weekend, plus some errands.

Take care

There are all kinds of "two person" duties in a project. hard for one person to snap a chalk line on studs or hold up a shelf to see if it's level. need someone to hold, someone to look! anyway, DH and I get into it sometimes.. it's not all peace and tranquility... but mostly we work pretty well together. .Lori that video sounds lovely!. I am completely defeated by technology these days and have no patience, but only admiration for anyone who can complete a project like that. I seem to be more like Deb, where I think I'm doing it all right, and it doesn't work!

we didn't even set up bluetooth on our truck. we are definite about not talking on the phone while driving so the passenger( me) takes the call if there is one. we didn't get an electronics package on our Outback. skipped the whole GPS business. I would have opted for the backup camera and the feature that alerts for approaching vehicles from the side in parking lots...but wasn't available yet. our cousin's new Honda has the special camera that shows the right side if you put on the right directional. bicyclists everywhere will be happy to hear that. My experiences with GPS were so bad initially that I lost confidence. we had one but I returned it because it was wrong so much of the time.

Judy your kitty is so cute!. cats have such amazing friendly faces . can't believe you got him to hold still with all that stuff on. some kitties are more accommodating than others. That sounds like a good and reasonable goal for the year. I have not set anything specific yet except to do "something" almost every day, a day off a week for recovery.

Deb I have no idea why it would take so long. urine results should be done in a couple days at most. but I haven't worked in a lab for a long time now and tests and times have changed. I think Lynda's diaper suggestion is a good one. don't they have all kinds of products especially to protect female dogs? I've never had a female dog so not speaking from experience here. at least you would get an idea of volume and frequency, and it wouldn't end up on the carpet or furniture. Hoping Kylee gets fixed up ASAP.

We tried to xc ski yesterday but the warm front moved in faster than predicted and the snow was awful. we did find a new road to ski when conditions improve. so did 35 on the elliptical & core 1. shoulder is slowly creeping towards normal.
