Deb, hope you're OK. I'll get us started this week.

good morning all! I did a 20 minute warm up on the treadmill and then did Supercuts yesterday. I haven't done one that one in a while,so I forgot what I didn't like about it! but it was fine. the step/kick through.... I did the first set, but had trouble not falling over with the second. I'm not real fond of the rapid fire sit ups/ pushups at the end. I do them a little slower so I don't totally lose my form and feel fine with that. I personally think that sacrificing form for speed is not a good decision.

Hi Ladies,

No workout today. We celebrate Christmas Eve. We will be having ham, greens and mashed potatoes. For the 25th, we will be serving pozole and tamales and for dessert we have 7 different kinds of cookies and a drink we make out of corn meal called champurrado :)

I will check back tomorrow. Have a great day!

Josie

Getting this thread to the top , thanks Valerie for starting. Anyone interested in
My long explanation of what I have can go to the other post.

Good evening ladies.

This morning was t25 speed 3.0. No workout tonight as I worked late. I am off untill after the 1st and I know I'll get some good workouts in.

Deb...I read your post. Crazy that can happen. Now that they know and it is being treated when will you be feeling better? Hoping you are feeling good for christmas to enjoy the day.

Valerie...I am the same way with the push ups/sit ups. I go at my own pace and think I end up doing 6 to her 8 and I am fine with it. I do not like the step kick at all! I do it but also feel like I am going to fall all over the place.

Lynda/Josie...your meals sound delicious! We are such boring people. Neither my DH or I have any family close by...so our holidays are usually pretty quite. The plan was originally going to be a fried turkey(we have an indoor fryer that we love) but this weekend my DH and DS decided they want me to do a brunch instead. Which is fine with me. I love brunch. Going to plan the menu tonight then shop tomorrow first thing before the stores get insane. We also plan to see Anchorman 2 on christmas day. I am not a fan but the guys have been dying to see this so I will be a good sport.

Judy...glad they called you. I would have been very dissapointed if you never heard back from them. I think you made the right decision by not taking it.

Have a great night all!!

Judy.. at least you know you are "hire-able" by someone else but I see no reason to take a pay reduction when you have so much experience. weekend work is a problem unless your DH also works weekends. I prefer weekdays off because things are not as busy, but that's because DH is off then too. and of course, any organized even is always scheduled for weekends.
Lori, I am going to substitute a second set of "sit throughs" whatever the first version of that exercise was. I had issues with those at first and I expect as I do those more often, the "kick throughs" will get more possible.
I did all 8 sets of sit ups/ pushups just a little slower. I hit the pause button so I can count to myself. I do better counting to 80. somehow remembering set # I get confused. somewhere right toward the end of that workout the background music gets annoyingly loud. I'm not a big fan of most current music... seems too harsh and screechy to me. I am going to test doing that one without the music and only cathe's voice.

we have a dinner to go to in a few days that I'm bringing dessert to. DH remembered a fabulous dessert I used to make and I spend time looking for it and found it. it's an almond tart. haven't made it in ages. it was elegant and traveled easily could be made a little ahead of time. came from gourmet mag.
Deb, keep us posted. are you on Flagyl? Hope you get thru this quickly.

Hi Ladies,

I want to wish all of you a Merry Christmas. Thank you all for your suppport and advice throughout the last few years.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Party Rockin' Step #1 (53:42). Very fun!

Deb, I read your post, and with everyone, I hope you can enjoy a little bit of the holiday without pain. It sounds like you definitely did the right thing going to ER.

Lori, I decided to wait until after Christmas to go to the movies. I did read a ho-hum review of Anchorman 2 in EW--a grudging B--and the men on Morning Joe thought it really was disappointing. I thought the first one was funny, but I can wait until this one comes out on DVD.

MMM, Valerie, and almond tart sounds lovely.

Going out tonight and then cooking tomorrow.

Josie, that menu sounds great--and different. 7 types of cookies--wow!

Merry Christmas Judy!

Deb... here's to a speedy recovery. Hope you feel better soon. this is a link to a WebMD article about C. diff. I think it's inexcusable your doctor didn't think of this.... it was the first thing I thought of, but I'm not a doctor and am careful about overstepping my background. C. diff: Causes, Symptoms, and Treatments

Your primary care person should probably be an Internist. IMO... most FP's and GP's don't do very well with adults who actually get sick with something. their focus is often on younger families, and kids. yes, DH is an internist, and my personal physician is too.

Lynda, I'll report back on the almond tart. it's from an old Gourmet article featuring several tarts from Michele Sociolone.( something like that!)
the dinner isn't until the 29th. I remember it was excellent. I remember people asking for the recipe. it was fairly easy to make/transport, and not so fussy it needed to be made at the last second.

I ran on the treadmill yesterday. DH and I did a trail run this morning and then a couple mile walk checking out waterbirds with the telescope.

Everyone have a great Christmas!.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did All Out Low Impact Hiit + Core 1 (49:22) and yesterday I did XTrain Ch, Ba, Sh (50 min.).

Deb, are you feeling any better? Thinking of you.

The friends we went out with on Thursday night were not able to do Christmas Day with her sister in Saratoga because she had the flu, so we invited them over to share in our dinner. A lot of fun, and thank goodness, or we would have leftovers for a LONG time. DH made this really interesting sauce to go with the rib roast, but he worked on it most of the afternoon, because there was so much reducing to do--a whole bottle of red wine, a cup of Scotch, broth, and cream--and it was done in stages. Lots of Rosemary and cracked roasted peppercorns and shallots as well.

Did all of you get what you wanted from Santa?

Hi all

We had a quiet day yesterday but I got a scare last night so we went over to the ER again early this morning. Nothing to be alarmed at just was glad they saw me and checked it out they did another round of blood work and said my liver values were very slightly elevated from here they were Monday. She wants me to wait a couple of days and have it done again just to be sure all is ok. She couldn't figure out what would change between Monday and today, even asked me if I had a drink yesterday. Right, that's exactly what I wanted to have with the way I was feeling!

Garance, your dinner sounds lovely! I did get a portable DVD player so I can watch my Doc Martin series in the living room and not have to go in the den where're the TV etc is. I am almost done with the season. Delightful as usual.

Hoping to take a nice nap this afternoon. What's everyone else up to?

we had a lovely mild sunny day so went mt biking for 3 hours. fun. I fell a couple times but just some bruises. tree roots get so slippery this time of year. yesterday we tried to ski but the snow was nasty and icy so we did a short low level hike instead and called it OK.

Deb, hope things continue to improve and that you are getting proper treatment.

I got the Flex train disk, cathe calendar and a new yoga mat a manduka. ..... santa was good to me. I ordered some nicer casual tops for myself once the sale prices came on. I did mail order so will see what fits.. I don't plan to keep all I ordered. my whole wardrobe is looking worn out and run down.

Hi Everyone,

Christmas eve was a rest day for me. We took FIL out to dinner at Bob Evans and he really enjoyed it. He ordered a chicken pot pie and it came with pumpkin bread and green beans. He ate more than I've ever seen him. Usually he just picks at his food and takes 3/4 of the meal home and I end up throwing it out the next week. This time there wasn't anything left to take home. On a sad note, his memory and cognition are declining very fast. SIL and DH are starting to look at guardianship.

Christmas day we went to Mass early then I did Muscle Max and Medicine Ball Abs. We just stayed home and took it easy the rest of the day. I got a pair of compression tights for recovery, a pair of Express jeans, and the spinning bike, that we actually got in July but I consider a Christmas/Bday present for this year.

This morning I did an hour Spinerval.

Deb, I hope things get much better. I wonder if the antibiotics you were taking caused your liver enzymes to elevate slightly?

Valerie, biking outside sounds so nice right now! We had snow yesterday and last night and it is freezing outside! I am so ready to move to a warm climate.
DH and I have been going to an Internist since 2008. He is about to retire so we will need to find another one.

Hi to Lynda, Lori and Josie,

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Had such a nice day. Brunch was spectacular! Last minute I decided to include a spiral ham and it was delicious. We had so much food.

After gifts we ate then went to the movies. We decided against anchorman because thw reviews were not favorable so we chose The Wolf of Wall Street. Big mistake. Thought this was the worst movie I have ever seen in a long time. Kills me to think we paid to see such a terrible movie. Tons of sex and drugs. This did not offend me at all what was sad was this movie had all the makings of a really great movie but it just never took off. We kept waiting for it to get better but it never did. At one point my husband asked if I wanted to leave. We stuck it out and stayed to the end.

Santa was extremely good to me...DH bought me P90x3 and KCM's shape up. I knew about the KCM but was surprised about the other. He also bought me an Alex & Ani bracelet and a Nordstrom gift card because he said he needed to get me something a little more feminine! DS gave me Weider's Ruthless set. I will have to say I am pretty much set for a while with workouts. This morning I tried out one of the p90x interval workouts followed by a ruthless one. P90x3 are all 30mins and ruthless are all 20mins. Was a great combination.

Deb...I am so sorry for you! Wow you have had such a tough time with this. You are in my thoughts and prayers for relief soon.

Lynda...yes I agree your dinner sounded unbelievably delicious. Sounds like your husband enjoys cooking. We like to cook we just never have the time.

Judy...so sorry about your FIL. This must be so difficult. I think it makes sense at this point to take guardianship. I have the medicine ball abs but have not done it at all. I bought it cheap as a download thinking someday.

Valerie...yeah you have Flex Train. Can't wait to hear your thoughts on it. One of my favorites of the new series. I bought Cathe's calendar this year for the first time and I like it.

Hi to Josie!!!

Good morning,

I am still off work, I took yesterday and today as vacation days figuring I would need more recovery time and I am glad I did.

Valerie, what is a Manduka?

Judy, it does sound like it's time to get a care giver person in for your FIL. The lady next door has a person that stays with her while her daughter is at work during the day. But that works out since the daughter lives there. Are you looking for a place for him to move into? What series or disk is medicine ball abs from?

Lori, Sorry about the movie being so bad. I hope you like the new KCM. I looked at the YouTube video of Tony Horton promoting P90x3 and couldn't stand to even listen to the whole thing. He has gone way over the top. I didn't mind his personality so much in P90X but this was too much for me.

Lots of snow still on the ground here, not too cold. It's supposed to be in the 30's today. Woo Hoo!

Deb, Manduka is a brand of yoga gear, especially mats. they run $80-100. people swear they are much superior to cheaper mats. I've had a cheapie for 10 years so I will be seeing if it makes a difference. the material is denser for better cushioning and the surface is less slippery. I always wear gloves and gripper socks because I slide easily from perspiration. they are heavier and have a right and wrong up side. also a little bit longer and wider than cheaper mats. they come in a longer version for tall people too, nice for 5'10" and up. There! everything you ever wanted to know about a yoga mat!

Liver enzymes can fluctuate... with all the antibiotics, allergic reaction plus the c.diff and the drugs for that ....the liver is the "detox" center for everything. I would not be alarmed but monitored to make sure they drop back to normal levels over time.

Lori... so disappointing when you read good/great reviews, drop the $$ and find your taste and the reviewer's taste do not jibe. I don't see many movies in theaters. plus the sound track is too loud and I like subtitles. I read that Anchorman disappointed but also read Wolf was getting 3-4 star ratings. I'm not a big fan of DeCaprio. not sure why, just don't like him in most roles. I put Wolf on the Netflix queue. if it's unwatchable I don't feel a need to sit through it.
waiting to hear your thoughts on p90x though I think I'm maxed out on workouts. I should sell a few that I won't use though I've said that before and never do. Never heard of Ruthless but short intense workouts have appeal.

Judy you may need to hire someone to check in on FIL daily, or on days when you or your DH can't make it. If he refuses to go to a care facility you may just need to wait until an accident or fall forces that to happen. there are "lay" people who do this kind of thing... but I'm not sure how to find someone other than personal reference. expensive but not as much as assisted living.

Judy, it was only 36 degrees in the morning but warmed up to 48 and was sunny so mt biking was quite comfortable. we wear some heavy wind block tights that keep legs warm and protected from scrapes. muddy and tree roots get slippery but mostly pleasant. I may need to shop for a better bike here. the shift lever for the rear sprocket is very hard to operate and I have arthritis in that thumb joint that makes it hard to shift. these were cheap bikes so most likely a better bike will have better, easier to use shifters.
