Pentagenarians & Beyond:W/B 12/23

Deb-SIL is pushing hard to find an assisted living facility, one that has levels of care so that if and when FIL needs full nursing care he wouldn't have to be moved. DH had been fighting hard against this as FIL does not want to leave his house. Over the past few months, FIL's decline, mostly mental, has been so great that now DH is starting to agree with SIL. FIL is having another memory assessment in January and SIL is coming into town for that.

Valerie-I think we posted at the same time. I agree, I'm thinking that it's time to bring someone in to monitor FIL on a daily basis. Also, DH thinks that it will take another fall or something that puts FIL in the hospital to get him out of the house. I pray that they can get him out of there before that happens. He would be so much safer in a care facility now.

Medicine Ball Abs is from the Ab Circuits DVD.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flextrain (56:36).

Deb, it sounds like things have settled down a bit for you. I hope you had a bit of enjoyment for the holiday.

Lori, I was just reading A.O. Scott's review of the Wolf of Wall Street. He sounded very mixed about it, asking whether it was satire or propaganda, and whether it was possible to be demoralized after you walked out of the film, or exhilarated by its excesses. He thought it was unclear where Scorsese 'stood' on both, but that the film was obscenely misogynistic. That is probably a deal breaker for me. I don't need to see another film where women are sexually objectified bimbos, powerless and tied to the fate of the 'hero'. I have some favorite films by Scorsese--Goodfellas and The Departed--but I often think he gets a free pass from critics who regard him as an auteur. I cannot even remember the name of the film (something about a clock) he had out last year. I thought it was too long and very irritating, but all the critics raved about its homage to Melies, the early French filmmaker.

Anyway, I think I will wait until after the holidays to see some of the blockbusters contending for Oscars.

Judy, it must be so hard for your husband to make these decisions when it's clear his father does not want to leave the familiar comfort of his home for some unknown challenge of a new residence. Do you think he would even be receptive to someone coming in on a daily basis to help him?

Valerie, like Lori, I will be curious to hear what you think of Flextrain.

Hi to Josie!

Hi Ladies,

Went for a long walk with the kids to Venice beach yesterday. They get up as early as me, so no chance to workout. My DH is also on vacation and wants to sleep late, so I have to keep the kids entertained and fed because they are always hungry. :)

Judy, I don't envy your DH and SIL. My DH and his brother had to put their DM in a full care facility 6 years ago. She started with the same symptoms that you described. She no longer recognizes us.

Deb, hope that you are feeling a bit better.

Lori, I'm going to wait on your reviews for P90X3 and Weider Ruthless ;). I got money for Christmas. I always get money because I rather buy what I want and I don't want to hurt anyone's feelings if I don't like the present. My DD got me hoop earrings because she knows that I love them and she can't go wrong ;)

Garance, I wait to see the movies when they come out on DVD. I'm a bit fidgety and can't sit for very long. I used to love going to the Drive-in because you can get out of the car and stretch your legs

Valerie, it is so wam in LA. It is supposed to go up to 80 today.

Josie

Hi Everyone,

I took a rest day today. DH and I ran some errands and didn't do much else.

I'm putting together my goals for 2014 and one of them is to start my first STS rotation on Jan. 1.

Tomorrow morning will be a Spinerval and then off to FIL's house.

Lynda-He didn't seem to mind having the visiting nurse last summer. I'm not sure how he would feel about someone coming in to help with bathing, housekeeping, getting him to eat. He was resistant to that idea when the doctor suggested it at his last assessment.

Josie-That's what I am afraid is going to happen here. I think FIL is pretty close to needing full care, not just assisted living. There are lots of strange behavioral things going on with him, saying things that don't make sense, etc. He has already forgotten who some people are and his short term memory seems to be getting worse every day.

Hi to Lori, Deb & Valerie,

Judy

Good morning,

It's supposed to go up to 40degrees here today which will be nice for melting the snow that has piled up. i have no plans to leave the house however anyway so it doesn't mean too much for me.

Valerie, if I ever got serious about yoga I would want one of those mats It sounds like they really make a difference.

Judy, I do have the Ab Circuits DVC but have not really ever dion the workouts. I think starting to look for a place for your FIL now would be a good idea. Sometimes there are long waiting lists to get into places. Also, start researching what happens if your FIL owns property, assets etc now as well. In some states there are limits to what can be owned, and how much money a person has if you want/need assistance. I think you will really like STS

Garance, which are the movies that you feel will be Oscar contenders? Maybe tis year I will try to see one or two of them!

Josie, sure, sure, rub it in about going into the 80"s!! LOL

Hi to Lori,

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

No workout yesterday. It was cold and crapy yesterday so I never got out of my pj's and watched the Lord of the Rings trilogy. Was a gift set on blue ray extended versions so of course I needed to watch them. :)

Deb...I do not blame you for not leaving the house the way you have been feeling. I have not seen a ton of movies but my vote for awards would be 12 years a slave and captain phillips. The stories and acting performances were phenominal to me.

Lynda...I agree with your description with Wolf of Wall Street. Leonardo's acting was unbelievable and so was Jonah Hill's. They both did a great job but that was the only thing about this movie that was good to me. In reading the reviews it seems most feel the same way.

Judy...I was planning to start STS again too in January. But now that I have p90x3 I am unsure as to what to do! I may combine both since p90 is only 30 mins. I need to make up my mind quickly!

Josie...good job on the walks. Still getting some great exercise in. After previewing I really like ruthless alot. The guy yells a lot but I am able to tune him out. p90x does not look as intense as the other two but so far I like what I see. Will let you know more as I do the workouts.

Hi to Valerie!

Have a great day!
