Good morning,

No workout yesterday, but did get a lot of chores done from my list. My ICE DVD's arrived yesterday. A nice surprise. I think I will start today with the Total Body Metabolic workout. I wonder when the online book will be there so we can see the rotations.

Josie, I didn't realize that there were those restrictions after the eye surgery, I can understand why you would wait. When is the ride again?

Valerie, does your knee bother you on the hike like you did yesterday? I sometimes wonder if my hip pain is really a hamstring issue, but don't know how to tell. I know it hurts when I lie on that side too long, that is why I figure it is hip related. Maybe bursitis. Your new bike sounds great! :).

Hi to Judy, Lynda & Lori,

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Today is our 37th anniversary. ( I forgot) DH didn't. got me some lovely flowers and card. It was a dumb time to get married. always gets lost in the holiday rush. always has. Even I forget!

Deb I was a little uncomfortable yesterday because I put new arch supports in my boots. they make me walk a little differently. this was not a hard enough hike to cause problems. the rocks were slippery so we went on the road more than usual. It was a mid range workout so we did a ride later. Riding does not make my knee hurt. this is a decent climb at the local tree farm. we must stick to roads this time of year. those are the rules so trails don't get rutted when it's sloppy wet. almost all the up/downhill can be on roads. it will keep us in shape for riding. I LOVE LOVE the bike. It doesn't make it that much easier but it shifts and brakes so much smoother than the old one so I enjoyed it a lot more.
I'd agonized over size. decided on a 27.5 wheel. lots are going to 29" but it felt too big. I had my height measured last week at PT. I'm 5'2.5" not losing height but not getting taller! the frame for a 29 wheel is bigger. even DH feels he is just barely big enough. his torso is longer, my legs are longer.

How's John doing with the exercise bike? Hope he's liking it. getting a positive start helps so much.

Deb, like you, I didn't know there were such restrictions after cataract surgery. the only people I've talked to about it were total couch potatoes so it didn't matter to them at all. Josie, I'm sure you will be able to work it out if you have time to plan. Can they do both eyes close together so down time isn't 2x as long?

No sign of DVD's yet. probably won't start anything right away. I'm sticking with limited ROM, impact. elliptical, treadmill, riding, spinning floor work while I work on the knee issue.
wanted to watch the debate last night but could not get streaming to work with ABC site. we could get it for a few seconds but then broke up and was unwatchable.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did DM (63:00).

Deb, you will have to tell us how you like that new ICE workout. I think mine are coming tomorrow.

Yesterday was a lot of work being done on my closets, and that is almost done, but I still have 4 parts of my desk to arrive, and UPS tracks them for Tuesday. It's from Ballard, the Sommerville collection. A bit expensive, but I didn't want a corporate look. Instead, it's all hard wood and looks just a little old-fashioned, with these louvered file drawers.

Lori, yes, I am sure you will have to go to work just to get your ICE workouts. I hope that branch hasn't caused any serious damage to your roof.

Josie I had no idea cataract surgery recovery and prep was that complicated. When exactly do you think you will be able to schedule it? No, I don't get Cinemax, so I haven't seen that series. I looked it up, though, and it sounds interesting.

Judy, I can't remember--what kind of PT did you do for your IT band? Was it the foam roller?

Valerie, I watched most of the debate. It was civil most of the time--unlike the schoolyard taunting of the Repubs. Trump is really the worst. He rolls his eyes, sneers, smirks, throws his head back as if he wants to laugh, and given the slightest opportunity, just insults: "oh, yeah, Jeb, you're so tough." They also didn't sound like they wanted to just bomb the whole middle east or to scare everyone about Muslims.

I will go to Trumbo this afternoon. It's had some Oscar buzz, Deb, so eventually it will be available in wider release I'm sure. But yes, our local theater Images is non-profit and tries to bring in a lot of the films the multiplex ignores in favor of blockbusters.

Good afternoon ladies!

I downloaded all the new workouts yesterday and this morning. I reviewed a few of them and they look great. I love the blasts and will be working these in when I can. Right now we are watching the Pats came. My DS was over for a visit so I have not worked out yet. Can't make up my mind which one I want to do first! Kickboxing, metobolic or the low impact. Oh the decisions! We also have a Roku so I can stream them on our larger tv to preview. Cathe has her own Roku channel which is pretty cool. She really is ahead of the game technically.

Someone did come by yesterday to remove the tree from the house. They inspected the roof and they feel it is fine. Thank goodness as we were really concerned about the roof. We have used this guy before and he is very reasonable. He also remove some branches that looked like they would be problematic.

Josie..that makes sense to wait on the surgery. I too had no idea all the stipulations involved with that surgery! I am hoping Santa brings me an apple watch and 40lb dumbbells. My DH loves to tell people his wife wants 40lb dumbbells!!! Really only want one to use when I do plie squats when you reach down and pick up a weight. I have a 35lb but 40 would be more of a challenge.

Valerie!!! Happy Anniversary!!!! That is amazing 37 years. I have been married 30 years but not to the same man. :). I do not have a knee issue but I would be uncomfortable with an arch support too. This must take some used too. Which ICE Dvd did you order? All or only a select few?

Deb...looking forward to your review on the metabolic workout. They all look really great to me. Looks like she has another winner. She posted the guide will be available tomorrow. Am looking forward to this. I love reading all the information she puts in these guides. I will print out in color and put a spiral spine on it. I like to keep a hard copy readily available in my workout area. Peanut is a French Bulldog. My DS wants one so badly.

Lynda...how is the office coming along? How exciting! It felt so liberating to me to declutter the basement recently. Love everything being in order. So sweet finding those ornaments. Have never done great glutes! I really should at least look at it. I may have when it first came out but I have no clue now.

Judy...not sure if I could ever do a 90 minute all floor workout. Knowing you though this would be a breeze. Hoping you get ahead of your right side soreness so you never have to go thru what you did last year. It amazes me that both you and Valerie would have weak glutes. Is this common with cyclists? To me it seems it would be the opposite.

Well..off to finish watching the Pats game. Have a great day all!

Oh Lori that is a hoot.. be proud!.40 lb dumbbells!. wow. I used 30 for a few things but haven't lately.

I'd run screaming from a 90 min floor workout too. Judy that's impressive.

I'm not even sure it's glutes. unless somehow I am using my legs and not glutes? I haven't gotten sore from anything I've done. I wonder what muscles are involved. it seems to me like if you kickboxed a lot, that "side hip" spot would be in shape.

I ordered the whole Ice set. hopefully I will be able to do it, soon not immediately. don't want to mess with what I'm doing by making my knee sore. more info on Tuesday. got to go pick up some bike tires. I get winter "mud " tires! bike came with less 'tready" summer tires.

For those that got the Total Body Metabolic workout, I really liked it a lot. It was not too hard, but not easy either...I guess that is what Intermediate is all about. :). I did the regular complete workout, not a premix, and was able to finish it easily, I mostly went with the weight just under what Cathe was using...so if she used 10's I used 8's etc. Lots of new moves, that were fun to do.

Tomorrow I think I will do the Low Impact cardio one, but found out on other forum that they are only about 19 minutes long, there are not actually 2 workouts, or something like that....The second half uses a step...ugh...:(...that's just me though...I may look at the premixes for this one first.

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I saw that the ICE workouts were available for streaming so I did Icy Core 1 & 2 and To The Mat. The total time was 74 minutes. I really liked both the core and the all floor leg workout a lot. Like Deb said, it wasn't too hard, but not too easy either. I think that doing the longer premix for To The Mat will make it seem more like an advanced workout. I can't wait to try some of the other ICE workouts now!

Deb-Maybe I'll try the Total Body workout tomorrow.

Lori-Wow! 40 lb dumbbells! That is awesome! The most I've used for a Plie Squat is 25, and I don't think I'll be going up from there soon.
I hope you get your Apple Watch!
I think weak glutes is common among cyclists. I was just reading an article that said that biking is a "quad dominant" exercise, and that it builds leg strength and can eventually lead to a muscular imbalance, where the leg muscles take over and the body stops using the glutes. I think that is one of my problems.

Valerie-I have a 27.5" bike too. DH has a 29", and he is thinking about trading it in for a 27.5".
I haven't done the 90 minute floor workout yet, but I think I will try it soon.

Josie- I agree on waiting for the surgery. I don't blame you for waiting until after the ride.

Lynda-I did a lot of foam roller work and stretching for my PT last year.

Good morning & Happy Monday!

Yesterday I did A lot of HouseMax yesterday, and the new workout. Today I will try The Low Impact Sweat one....like I mentioned, probably a premix. As someone else mentioned, these workouts are just hard enough to feel worked, but not hard enough to kill you ..LOL...

Valerie, Happy Anniversary! Don't feel bad about forgetting, John and I both forgot our 5th anniversary...it was the evening and we were going into a grocery store, we both said something like...."our anniversary is coming up....we should do something...and looked at each other in shock...."it's today!!! " oops....we had a good laugh about it. John's bike is delivered on Wednesday. He opted for the delivery, set up and demo for a little extra charge.

Lynda, I googled your office furniture, very nice! The theater we have that shows art films is right in the neighborhood..down the street, it is free standing, ....the only remaining old fashioned theaters....it was just completely renovated to it's original glory....so nice.

Lori, glad the tree limb did not damage your roof. What workout did you end up deciding on? I am really looking forward to the guide too...and the rotations.

Josie, I also was surprised at the prep needed for the eye surgery...like someone said, the person that I know that had it recently, does not do any exercise etc...she never mentioned the restrictions that you have to be under. When will you reschedule it for?

Judy, nice combo of workouts! 90 minutes floor workout?? Ouch! How are the Core ones? I think the info you found on cyclists and weak glutes makes a lot of sense...your quads are used a lot while biking.

A workout, then I am going to my brother's to help them make some cookies or candy...not sure which...then class tonight...

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did Rock m Sock m using 1lb hand weights along with the blast that came with it. I liked the basic workout but needed to increase the impact at times. For example, with the kick portion instead of doing a kick then 3 marches I skipped the marches and did alternating kicks. There were a couple other times I increased. For the most part though my heart rate stayed up without modification and I liked I can easily modify up or down with this workout. Today I am going to try out Chiseled Lower Body. The time inbetween drills looks long to me so I may need to be jump roping a bit. Another one that I can increase intensity if I choose.

Deb...looking forward to hearing your review on the Low Impact one. This one looked great to me as it. I am not one that likes step either but like it when used in drills. I am swinging by the office today to pick up the DVD's. I need to be in the area anyways so going to grap them. Looking forward to checking out some of the premixes. Hilarious about your 5th anniversary!

Judy and Valerie...just to clarify I only will use one of the 40lb dumbells. And pretty much for only one exercise. I am very fortunate that my legs and glutes are incredibly strong and I do not take this for granted. Perhaps as you mentioned Valerie all the kickboxing I do must help.

Judy...I think I will really like the core workouts. Did you find the floor workout helped you? This is one I have not previewed yet. Looking at the clips when she posted it looked intriguing.

Lynda...funny becuase I really was trying to hold out and not go to the office! I do have a couple of things I need to grab in the area so my excuse to go in. lol :). I called my son's GF to see if she wants to come along. There are a couple of shopping areas that she loves out that way. Will be an enjoyable day.

Hi to Josie!!!!

I did Low Impact Sweat this morning, the first cardio with the ICEY core #1 premix......I liked it...

If I had to criticize it would be that Amanda does not do much modifying...nothing like KCM's modifier. I didn't expect it in the Low Impact workout, but she could have done some in the Core one...especially the planks. :( I really feel that Cathe was just "placating" her older and not as advanced followers with this modifier....JMO...

Hi everyone--

This morning I did JS's core stretch and Dance Sculpt (about 43 min.) Low intermediate, although a few of her moves are tricky for me in terms of balance.

I am so envious of all of you with the new workouts. They sound pretty good. Deb, yes, over at VF there were several people who didn't think Amanda was a very good modifier on the clips that were shown.

Wow, Lori, a 40 lb. dumbbell! Santa is going to hurt a lot delivering that. The other pieces for my office arrive today--coming all the way from Arizona, but a day early. They are really in no need of construction, so maybe I can put this together on my own and I won't have to bring my professional organizer over here. He put together the prefab stuff from Closet Maid and Home Depot for the other closets, but unfortunately some of the stuff from Closet Maid is damaged, or the holes were not drilled out.

Valerie, 35 years for us, but we always remember because it's Columbus Day. Interesting about cycling developing the quads, but not necessarily the glutes.

Judy, 74 min. on the mat is a lot of work! I am looking forward to the mat routine from Cathe. The clip looked different from other floor routines.

Trumbo was very interesting--he was denied a couple Oscars for Roman Holiday and The Brave One because of being put on the black list. Eventually Kirk Douglas and Otto Preminger are responsible for giving him screenwriting credit for Spartacus and Exodus and then his other Oscars are awarded when he is finally given attribution, rather than non-existent pseudonyms. Bryan Cranston is wonderful in the lead, and Helen Mirren plays a virulent Hedda Hopper, who is responsible for this witch hunt. I enjoyed it, but like all biopics, it's just not possible to do more than just try to adequately report what the life was all about.

Glad I'm not the only one who's forgotten an anniversary! wow did I feel stupid! we don't usually do that much because of time of year and xmas over load, but I totally forgot. Hope John likes his new toy.

I did the pedal power spin yesterday, also therapy exercises, about an hour total. I swear... my glutes don't really work that hard spinning. seems mostly calves, quads.

Judy, my DH feels "on the cusp" on a 29". I tried several 29's. getting on /off on a narrow trail would be harder. I need to tip the bike further sideways. 27.5 fits better. get benefits of a bigger wheel with proper frame size. . Trek connects frame size to wheel size, so smaller frame gets smaller wheel. so a 29 had both larger. I am very happy with mine.
Do you remember where you read about the quad dominant issue? If you can think of it, I'd love to read it. ...because I think that's what has happened. I may just google the topic and see what pops up.

Lynda we ended up using Rubbermaid shelving and closet runners. things are made sloppy, holes don't line up, directions not good. Elfa is way nicer quality but you do PAY for it. Plus, the elfa store is a long, awful jammed up drive for us. we wanted something we could get at Lowes or HD so we could run back for pieces as needed. think closet maid was somewhere in between.

We finished a bunch of series all at once. Scott and Bailey is a British police we streamed on Netflix. Highly recommended. an all time favorite for me. I swear I know these women personally! very british but I had no trouble at all understanding dialogue. Longmire ... streamed the last season, Netflix rental first 3 seasons. recommend, mostly pretty good. modern western. some strange parts. China Beach .... we rented season 1, but that's all. ordered the DVD's from amazon. not available anywhere to stream or rent. . reviews say it's best starting with second season. worth it for music alone.
will put Trumbo on my queue. I will like that one for sure.

thank you judy... this is better than what I found. I will be reading...the videos are very useful. I am the "one sided patello- femoral knee pain" person.

I picked up my DH's Xmas gift today! It is soooo beautiful. I had to attach a picture to show you. It is bigger than it looks and very heavy. My friend that did this would charge over $1,000 but he gave it to me at cost easily saving me over $500. Sweet! The background is black felt. Anything you see (like the xmas tree) is all glare.

Good morning!

Yesterday I went to my brother's house and my SIL and I made 4 different kinds of cookies ...YUM. It was kind of a cheat though...except for one kind, she had all the dough made. Still fun to do with her.

Lori, I am not sure how the step is used in Cardio 2 of Low Impact Sweat...I think it's like you said, not actually a step workout, but used for cardio moves to get your heart rate up. Are the download/streaming issues resolved? Cudos for being able to use a 40 lb DB for plie squats. :), I finally got the ICE work book to save as a PDF document.....somehow my PC kept saving it as a WORD doc and when you opened it, it was all messed up. I am looking forward to doing the rotations. I guess there was some type of printing error in it....good thing it's electronic and they can fix it immediately and we can all get the corrections instantly. :).

Lynda, not sure why you did not get your DVD's.....did you get a shipping notice? I remember seeing Spartacus at the Drive-In with my Dad!

Valerie, I guess they are correct on how spinning etc works quads, not glutes. I would think that it would do both but I can see now how the quads can take over. Going to check Amazon Prime for that police series you liked....

Hi to Josie & Judy,

A workout and doing some de-cluttering in the entrance of the basement workout room...so they can get the bike through there tomorrow....LOL.

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I did the Lower Chiseled workout. I went heavier than Cathe and shorten the time inbetween drills to give it a more RWH feel. Loved it! Did not do any bonuses as I felt this was enough.

Had a great day yesterday with the GF. We left at 11am and got home about 6pm. Fun day.

Lynda...great some of the items came a day early. I hate when you order things and they do not fit together they way they are supposed too. Oh so frustrating. Thanks for the review. I love Helen Mirren. Did you get a shipping notice at all for the DVD's? I would say you should have received them yesteday if not today the latest. Mine were delivered on Saturday. If you do not receive them I would shoot them off an email. They are very slow responding though as to be expected with everything they have going on.

Deb...funny you need to clear out to make room for the bike to come through. My stairs leading to the basement was loaded with crap and anytime I needed to bring a large item through it was such a big deal. Now there is no clutter and I am loving it. I had no problems with the downloads they spoke of and have them on my Ipad already. I did however had an issue with the Upper Chiseled Meltdown and it was not their fault. My internet was not in the mood for downloads and I kepted getting bumped out. I emailed them and they will be resending a link. You only have 9 clicks to download but because of my issue I used them up! I downloaded the guide and will check out the rotations this morning.

Judy...thanks for those links. I am very much interested in reading why glute intensive.

Valerie...have your DVD's come in yet?

Have a great day all!

Lori what a fantastic gift. I tried to look last night but my computer was only showing your avatar. I blew it up and I kept thinking, well, she's married to him, she must know what he'd like, really large, on black velvet ... Now, this morning I see the medals. my system does not always work smoothly with pictures. How lovely! what a wonderful gift.

I got my DVD's yesterday but will wait for xmas to look. not a lot of surprises this year so I will wait.
yesterday I did a mix up of floor work along with my therapy. the floor from LBB. also some dreaded barre work that is in there as a bonus that I never noticed before. therapy this morning so I will ask about some of these other moves and what might help. Judy thank you for the links. very helpful. very good videos of what I might be doing. looking at overall posture. they are very positive on how therapy is preferable over surgery which I do NOT want to do.
barre work with leg up MUST work glutes over quads. I am convinced this is what has happened. I let my quads take over. easy to do cycling I think. I am not sore at all this morning.

so funny... we always bring things home with us, unload them and carry them in. about the only thing we didn't do was the hot tub! too impatient for a delivery. Hope John gets some use out of it. will make riding outdoors much easier too. Off to therapy. more later.
