Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/20

Happy Boxing Day!

I hope everyone had a great Christmas Day. We had a nice day yesterday, I ate too much of course. This has to stop NOW...way too much food and mostly not healthy food. Glad the holiday is over.

Not sure what is up for today, mostly relaxing maybe a workout. John is doing 10-15 minutes on his new exercise bike a couple times a day to get used to it. I hope he keeps this up. Although we are now going to be competing for the exercise room which never happened before...LOL.

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday I had time for a quick 30 minute workout so I did a leg combination of a couple SB targets followed up with a couple cathe fire loops section. Was quick but was feeling the burn. Today I am going to do Cathe Live Icey Bootcamp. Looks like it will be fun.

Christmas was lovely. My DH was so emotional with is gift. He just could not stop looking at it. I am so happy for him. I got my apple watch! Yeah!! I'll play with it later today. I am sure it needs to be charged first. I also received another pair of Clark boots which I love!

Deb...funny you should post Boxing Day! I just saw this on FB posted by a couple of English friends and for the life of my I have no clue what it is. I was going to look it up and now I most certainly will! I hear you with all the food. Needs to stop for me too. I have not been eating well at all. Yesterday's our traditional Chinese Xmas feast did not help! Fingers crossed John sticks with it. I love sharing our workout space with my DH!

Josie...hoping you are winning big!

Judy and Valerie...I have a foam roller and use it every now and then. I enjoy the feeling afterwards and should use it more often.

Lynda...how about the weather?? Crazy! No complaints here!!!!!!

Have a great day all!

Lori,

You must have Googled it...I think there are a couple of explanations....the one for current times being that it is the day that everyone takes their boxes back to the store to exchange....

When my company was family owned, we always got Boxing Day off as a paid holiday.....not anymore...:)

Hi everyone--

Yesterday I did Rock'm Sock'm (48:59) and I liked it a lot with my own mods at times. We also went on a hike before dinner--a few miles around 38 acres of DH's hayfields. Max loved it and the weather was so beautiful for a walk.

We decided not to go to the movie--too tired after our hike and then unpacking the components of my desk. Looks like I will have to send one file credenza back because it's just too much space taken up. I must say, though, everything was in perfect shape. They did a good job with the packing and 4 of the pieces came all the way from Arizona.

A very quiet Christmas Day with only the two of us. Our sons bought and wrapped Christmas gifts when they were here for Thanksgiving, so it was fun to see what they bought for us. We didn't eat too, too much, my mashed potatoes and sherry-cream sauce mushrooms are very rich. Dh grilled some filet mignons for us and it was all good.

I always thought Boxing Day was for servants in English households who served at Christmas and then had their own Christmas holiday with gifts from their employers at a later date. Like what you see on Downton Abbey.

Lori--I can only guess at how thrilled your husband was with his gift. It really was special.

Deb, I hope John likes his new bike and it works for him.

Good luck in Vegas Josie!

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Lynda, that is the other explanation for Boxing Day, which I believe is the correct one. It is a British holiday, and still celebrated in Canada. We used to get most of the Canadian holidays off.

We also spent a quiet day yesterday. talked to assorted family on both sides. made a turkey roast with a few minor side dishes. really low key. we didn't buy a lot else because of bikes were our presents.

Deb, I think you had told me about Last Tango in Halifax. or maybe it was you, Lynda? we are watching it right now. the interesting thing is the writer is the same one who wrote the police drama I liked so much, Scott and Bailey. I'd call Tango a rom-com? but the kind of thing Holly wood can't or chooses not to do anymore. clever, funny, very real dialogue, great acting and not a load of stupid, off color bathroom humor that passes for "funny " lately. . I noticed it was the same writer, Sally Wainwright I think it is. there is at least one other series, think it 's Happy Valley. thanks for recommending Tango.

we started out to ski this morning, but decided part way there that there was too much snow down low and we'd never get to where we wanted. so went home and went mt biking instead. 1 hr 45 min. It's so nice to ride a bike where it shifts smoothly when you want it to and the chain doesn't fall off or jerk around.

I knew boxing day was a canadian holiday but never looked to see what it signified.

I'm thinking I'll get a foam roller next PT appointment. I can buy one at cost thru PT, and anything that might help I will be trying. I didn't like the sensation but I'll do it anyway.
Ha... I know all about competing for the exercise room. we can do some things together but prefer one at a time. Deb, hope he keeps it up. padded shorts help a lot with getting used to a bike seat. if he's not the "black spandex type" look for mt bike shorts.... usually two layers, a form fitting inner layer with a chamois, and loose shorts over. usually the layers are connected at the waistband. sounds silly to say, but it can be confusing when it comes out of the wash machine! also padded underwear for under existing shorts. I never put anything with a chamois in the dryer.
