Had a nice day yesterday, I went to the mall with my cousin, which was so crowded you could hardly move through it, ( not my favorite part). We had lunch and a good time.

Lori, funny how everyone has different workouts that they go to and those that they don't. I sold Butts & Guts on Ebay, hated that workout. It sounds like it is one of your favorites when you want to get the job done!

Valerie, we are having another very strange winter for the northeast. It's 53 degrees here right now and somone said it will be up to 62 by Tuesday. Not sure what is happening, but I'll take it!

SNM Posted this update:

The following is a list of our five XTrain official Rotations:

1. XTrain 90 Day Undulating Workout Program

2. Optional XTrain & Low Impact Series 90 day
Workout Program

3. Optional Cardio & Strength Combined 30 Day
Workout Program (this is patterned after our CTX series and offers you the ability to do both cardio and one body part strength segment in the same day or workout)

4. Optional 30 Day Program with Ride included

5. Optional 30 Day Upper Body Strength Workout
Program (Only available online in our
Workout Manager)

These are just five rotations. We could easily right hundreds of rotations for XTrain. With 142 Premix workouts and a whole bunch of bonus workouts you have almost unlimited options at disposal. We designed our XTrain premixes so that each workout offers numerous workout time options to fit almost any workout time schedule.

Now for the house stuff that I have on my list...and plan a weight workout sometime this moring.

Hi to Garance, Josie, and Joan,

Hope everyone is having a good weekend!

Morning Deb.
I did GS back biceps yesterday. ran around outside getting the truck freed from the mud so didn't need any more cardio. I have butts and guts, haven't done it in quite a while. I've been doing LBB for lower body. when I get tired of that I could go to B&G again. there was soemthing in it I didn't like.. traveling lunges maybe? I don't remember.

brave soul, going to a mall in dec. I go on mid day weekday only, and only briefly. I do NOT enjoy this month.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did both of KCM's Plateau Busters. Did the second one with 12s and 8s (46 min.).

Deb, it's in the 50s here today as well. Not sure how I feel about it. I'm worried about global warming and the threat of extreme weather that goes along with it. Thanks for the update on XTrain. The mall here is never very busy, because it is not a very good mall. I like to do my shopping online. I will probably do the rotation that combines cardio with one body part or the one that also incorporates LIS. I loved the old Xtrain Express, except for that one lower body video with the endless squats. Ugh! I never bought either LBB or BandG. I think I prefer barre work for my lower body over squats and lunges with heavy weights.

Big thumbs up on the Lincoln film. Daniel Day Lewis puts in an incredible performance, but so do Sally Field as Mary Todd Lincoln and Tommy Lee Jones as Thaddeus Stevens. The script is brilliant. This is no biopic (thank goodness, they are usually so boring: and then...and then...and then s/he died).

Hope everyone is enjoying their weekend.

Good morning,

Today I did 40 minutes of Cardio Coach #5. Whew, this is an hour long workout, I don't know how anyone does the whole hour.

Valerie, there was a lot in B&G that I didn't like. I don't remember what, but I sold more than one of the ones from that group on Ebay. Was that the series with no name? I assume you got the truck, it must need a good wash! I usually don't go to malls at all, but they have the only decent Sephora store at that one, and we each had a $15 off coupon when you spend $50. ( how hard is that at Sephora?). I didn't end up getting anything so she used both coupons.

Garance, I am really looking forward to the new series, and like the flexibility it will have with different rotations etc. Also, not as daunting as STS, with only 9 DVD's. We had warmer weather this weekend here too, but it rained all day yesterday, very gloomy ugly kind of rain.

to Josie, Joan and Lori,

Take care,

Did 35 on treadmill and then a 30 min premix on S&G.

I don't remember B&G that well. I don't have room for traveling lunges, run into equipment, so modify but they show up in lots of workouts. I'll look again to refresh my memory. wall squats?.... I don't mind those. I don't go as deep as they do. seems too stressful on knees to go below 90 degrees. was it real long?

truck definitely needed hosing down but not as bad as I thought. we park it in the garage in winter so it needed some work! chains too. we called a contractor to get a bid on graveling the road but no word back yet. the only way to get gravel down there is with the truck and we KNOW we don't want to do that. need some other equipment.

I've never been in Sephora..what do they have? I'm not a shopper, go to the mall, get what I need and get out, as fast as possible. I'm thinking skin products?

I never use the high step workouts I thought I'd love. I use the high step itself regularly and it's nice because of the flexible height... but the whole workout ... didn't like it.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did KCM's Cardio Quick Fix, both workouts (45 min.).

Went to the comfort meal last night. Yummy! Spring rolls with a delicious dipping sauce on a salad and tofu, ground pork, and rice stir fry. My usual Manhattan.

Deb, it rained here as well, but not all day, just late afternoon and evening. It's beautiful here today--sunny and really warm for December. I've never been to Sephora either. I, too, am looking forward to a new series because I am getting a tad bored with my KCMs. I just need something to refresh my exercise urges. I am having another laser treatment on my left leg this time on Wednesday, so I will have to get out my Leslie (aka cackle and shriek) walking dvds for a few days.

I haven't done my high step workouts in a long time. I probably should try them again. I liked them for awhile, but found the repetitive step-ups in one of them made me breathless in a bad way. Cathe sometimes just seems to go too fast for me and I hate pausing if it makes the workout even longer.

Working on a new paper here on Sitwell and Plath.

Linda, my DVd player has an inconspicuous button that takes the speed down to about 80%. isn't enough to distort sound or movement, but it makes new or intense things more manageable. take a look, maybe yours does too. I hit it accidentally once day and liked it.

Hi all!! It was so beautiful here in the Northeast today. Did errands at lunch and did not want to go back. Tomorrow will be even nicer!

Lincoln was an excellent movie. Such powerful performances.

B&G is really hard and LONG!!! I do not do it very often because of how long it is. 71 minutes I believe. I had the time on Saturday so figured what the heck!

Garance...wish you the best on your leg.

A sephora store is in my local JC Penny. Been meaning to check them out. Perhaps I should soon!

Today I ran on treadmill for 2.5 miles.

Good morning!

No workout for me today, late class last night so I "slept in" until 4:30. Dogs. I am so tired right now I could crawl in a corner and go to sleep.

Valerie, Sephora is a make up store, and they have everything and then some! Not that I wear a lot of make up opr anything, but if you are looking for anything in particular, they have it. I like the High Step workouts once in a while, they get your heart rate up, so kind of like doing weights and cardio at the same time. I keep forgetting to check my DVD player for that feature!

Garance, are they laser treatments working? If the step ups make you breathless in a bad way, lower the step height. I never have mine as high as Cathe and crew.

Lori, good job on the treadmill run! Our local JC Penny has a mini Sephora too, but they don't carry even 10% of what the actual Sephora store has. It can get a little daunting, so I don't stay in there very long, too crowded and too loud. I bought some nice sugar hand scrub with a lotion that goes with it. A litte early Christmas present for me!

Off for more coffee, and to get ready for work...another lovely day in paradise!

I should look at the button with a light and see what it's marked.... not bright enough to read the buttons down there without a flashlight, but I know where it is. it's not a fancy
DVD player, just basic. you can slow down parts and then let it go back to normal speed. I use the pause button more often.. my barbells take longer to change weights than Cathe's do.

Deb, I use makeup but not a lot. I have rosacea, which precludes using scrubs or other irritants that cause faster cell turnover. my skin looks good.... rosacea is not visible and is completely controlled as long as I use a few basic things and then leave it alone. so I'd probably not do well at sephora.

I think that's right Lori, B&G was really long. I should look at the premixes. 71 minutes is longer than I like. I did Cardio supersets yesterday. I like that one, gets the job done in about 45 min. this is the indoor exercise season for me.. I'm going to re-look at some of those seldom used workouts and review. maybe I tried to match step height on the high step ones and that was why I didn't like them.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Push-Pull, the double upperbody premix (46 min.).

Deb, my right leg looks so much better. After they did a follow up and closed some smaller veins with needles, it really made a difference. So, the laser hits one of the big veins first, then later there is a follow up with the needles (vein ablation). I think I did the step-ups with four risers instead of Cathe's five--but I haven't done these workouts in some time.

I agree, Lori, yesterday was lovely. Today it's a bit cloudy, but it's supposed to clear up and another warm afternoon. Very strange.

Valerie, I will check my dvd player. I am so myopic I will probably need a flashlight.

Hi to Josie and Joan!

Hi Ladies,

Had a great weekend in Palm Springs, I was hanging out with my brother in 80 degree weather. When I left LA it was raining and cold. What a difference 2 hours can make ;)

I went to see the retirement and benefits representative yesterday. I have a total of 22.5 years under my belt at UCLA and can retire by July 2013. If I wait until December of next year it will add and addition 17K to my retirement amount. My DH told me that it is up to me to decide when I want to leave. I told him that I wanted to leave yesterday ;)

I can’t take much more of this office and will probably leave in six months. My DH will be retiring in 2 years.

Garance, I can’t wait to go see Lincoln. Thank you for the review.

Hi to Valerie, Joan, Deb and Lori.

Josie

Good morning,

I just finished one of the pre-mixes from Supersets. mmmm.
nea.gif
..now I remember why I never grab this one...meh...

It started out as a relaxing night, then work set in and I was on the phone or my BB until 8:00...ugh.

Valerie, I need to find that button! Especially on the Pyramids! LOL. I think Cathe is at warp speed on that one.

Garance, where are the veins you are having work on? Glad to hear it is working. I have "spider" veins, but only on one leg, lower quad on the outside of my leg. Read over the years it's from crossing your legs. Not sure how true that is.

Josie, I will be going to Palm Springs in February, for the association meeting. I like the desert, no bad hair days! :D I think $17K is worth a couple of extra months, especially when you know it is almost over!

Hi to Lori, & Joan,

Take care,

Ok.. the button on my remote says 1.3 x .080. when I accidentally pushed it, it slowed the disk down. I assume 1.3 means it also could speed it up. I don't know if its a common feature. we've had a dozen remotes, each different, never use half of the buttons on most of them. I 've only used it a few times. usually when I slow things down I use the pause button to change barbell weight. I need to stop the disk.

Josie, I agree I'd think twice about staying a little longer. 17K is a nice chunk of change.
80 and sunny has a really nice ring to it now. when we were in fresno a few weeks ago it was 70 and sunny...I could get used to more frequent sun!

My MIL has decided to go ahead with treatment. the tumor returned. she will again get it reduced (from inside the bladder) then radiation and limited chemo. this is not a cure but will give her a little more time.

Did yoga yesterday morning, then S&G late afternoon. the whole disk, including muscle conditioning part, makes a good workout, especially for abs. those burpees, and the leg sliding moves while in a plank are hard but I think they're effective and a nice change from crunches. the cardio portion is not enough but I thought I only had approx 20 minutes. turned out DH ran late and I had time for the whole thing.

I have some spider veins on the inside of my right knee, also heard it was from leg crossing. mine are really faint. somehow I dodged the bad leg vein issue. my grandmother, mother, sister had problems but I don't... at least not yet. I think if I were getting them, I'd have them by now. if I had them, I'd get them fixed just like you're doing Lynda.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

Had my left leg zapped this morning. Had my 2 valium and was floating for awhile. Back in 8 weeks to get rid of the spider veins, which, according to the doctor, are the result of blood pooling in veins because of the varicose big veins. My right leg looks really good, but I will probably have one more treatment on these little guys down at my ankle. It's a longer process than I thought originally it would be, but, hey, why not get youthful looking legs again?

Deb, I really like Cardio Supersets, the 47 min. premix especially. What don't you like about it? I sold both TTM and Crossfire on Amazon. Now those workouts I didn't like because so much of them was high impact and the lower impact premixes were either too short, too repetitive, or the floorwork was just too difficult. I could never do those side-to-side planks with a weight in my hand or that plank where you pulled your knee in and out. Why just end up collapsing in frustration?

Josie, I don't know. 17K is a nice piece of change, but after all the posts of complete irritation with your ranting co-worker, I guess you have to weigh the continued aggravation against the money. I had one friend who retired early because she couldn't deal with the anxiety her new boss was giving her. Palm Springs sounds perfect.

Hi to Lori and Joan!

Good morning,

A rest day for me with a late class last night. Doesn't mean the dogs remembered that though.

Valerie, I think if I had to change bb weight while doing the workout, I would start to gravitate to those that didn't use a BB. I have multiple bb's since I have about 3 sets of weights ( including the Troy set that Cathe uses) and also a curling bar, and one of those bars that are covered with foam? I can't remember what they are called at the moment. That one is 15 pounds, and you don't add any weight to it etc. So each bar is set at a certain weight, and I rarely have to do any changes. If I want the 30 pound one ( the Troy), a little heavier, I just slide a 5 or whatever I need on each side, without taking off the clips and use it like that..

Garance, iHey, I would get the leg veins done too, if I had them. oh....it's the old "Supersets" that I grabbed yesterday, the one that is on the Push/Pull DVD.. ( not the one from the LIS)..most of the work is done on a stability ball..I do have DOMS today so maybe it wasn't as easy as it felt.

Hi to Josie & Lori,

Take care,

we have 2 bars, loads of 10,5, 2.5 lb plates. the bar diameter and holes in the plates are not the same as most sold currently. I forget if they are bigger of smaller but not interchangeable.
the securing mechanism is a screw-on ring. the bars themselves weigh 15 lbs, easy curl style. all works fine. I'd have to change everything to change anything, if that makes sense. but the screw-on ring takes longer on /off. plus DH puts 25 lb plates on and I willl rarely lift those. 25+ 25+ 15=65. I can set up two bars if I wanted, but usually work with one and change the weight on it. one bar sits on the Cathe rack, used with a bench, that one has the25 lb plates. the other is usually lighter and lives on a mat on the floor.

it's efficient, works for both of us. the only drawback is unscrewing/re-screwing takes longer than clip ons. I usually check notes to get the right weight. it all takes a little longer but not enough of an bother to replace everything. but "pause" gets used or I can't keep up.

did a mt bike yesterday, 1 hr 45. nice but we need to go more often. takes me half the time just to feel proficient again, and then we're done. this is a nice park, much nicer than areas close by, a bit of a drive.
I also like cardio supersets from LIS. I don't have the one from push/pull. I'm improving on the burpee type moves and the disk sliding moves on S&G. hated those at first but really good ab work. I do MUCH better if I remember to breathe and don't drop my head down.

lynda, hope you're recovering nicely.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did 4 Fast Miles with Leslie (55 min.). Gosh she has such an irritating voice. I don't know how she has managed to succeed with that constant shrieking.

I'm fine--I wear a compression stocking for a couple weeks. I have one bruise where they put in some numbing potion, but other than that, I feel fine. Thanks for your concern.

I have two barbells--one is an old Firm barbell that I bought extra plates for and the other is one that I have a lot of trouble gettiing the clips off and on. Any suggestions for making this easier?? When I was doing STS I would just load the extra plates on for deadlifts and not bother getting them clipped on because it was too hard.

Suddenly very cold again. Just plain weird weather--up and down, up and down. Same for you, Lori?

Oh, Deb, I know what you mean on Supersets. The total body trisets on LIS is somewhat like that--a lot of stuff on the ball. There were some photos of the wedding on Downton Abbey for EW. The gown, apparently, was really expensive.

Hey, Josie, did you like Skyfall?

Valerie, I am currently hooked on Breaking Bad.

Hi Ladies,

I will be going to my sculpt class tonight. Regarding retirement, I will see how I feel at the beginning on next June and decide then if I can stay another six months. We were told that we will have a new director starting in January. It is a woman that is coming from USC. I feel that as long the “good old boys” as still here, she does not have a chance :(

Garance, I’m glad that your treatments are going well. My DM and GM on both my dad’s and mom’s side had terrible varicose veins. I don’t have any and I thing that it was because I ran and have been very active all my life. I enjoyed Skyfall, I love that this 007 get beat up and dirty ;)

Hi to Deb, Valerie, Joan and Lori!
