Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/19

Good morning,

Today I will hopefully complete week 6 of C25K by running for 25 minutes straight after a 5 minute walking warm up. Wish me luck.

Other than that DH has that nasty cold that is going around, so I may be the "cook" today ( at his instruction of course!), for making the stuff for tonight. Not a good thing.

Valerie, I am still on the 5 year timetable, due to previous polyps, most likely will always be 5 years. That's ok, before it was 3. The vet did a general panel right after Thanksgiving, when she was drinking/peeing a lot, and that is when he switched her to the special kidney food. He said he was going to go back and look at those results again, now with this other stuff going on.

A Merry Christmas to all!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Squeeze (56 min.).

Good luck on the running, Deb! My running days are long over. In my 30s and early 40s I ran 3-5 miles per day. Cannot take the impact anymore. Gee, I hope you find out what's wrong with Kelsey. Must be frustrating. Those two feasts sound absolutely lovely. I really try to stay away from appetizers though. I hate getting full on them and then not being able to eat my meal.

Valerie, we have Italian ices in the freezer section of Stop and Shop--two brands and several flavors, but I like lemon best. During the summer, DH inhales them when he's haying because they are so refreshing and hydrating. Gosh--they actually prefer iceberg lettuce? How funny. I bet they overcook the turkey, too. My big complaint about growing up--my mother overcooked every meat so that I didn't know what it tasted like until I grew up. The only meat I really liked growing up was ham, maybe because it's already cooked and all you have to do is warm it up.

On the rec of my students I am reading Suzanne Collins' Hunger Games trilogy. Very compelling. They will be made into films. Anti-war and written for smart teens, but I am finding them very well-written.

My last post for a few days.
Deb, DH has had polyps ( bad family hx )so he will probably be on a 5 yr schedule too. I'm hoping I can get to 10 yrs because the procedure was very difficult. hope you get an answer about kelsey.

Lynda, totally right. MY grandmother lived with us and we had very german meat-and-potatoes food with WAY overcooked vegetables, no salads. Meat dominated everything. the vegies were cooked to mush. lots of root vegies like beets and rutabagas which I can't handle.
yeah, my SIL will overcook the turkey. they are weird about food. like salads. won't eat anything but iceberg, not even spinach. will slice spam right out of the can and put it on white bread with mayonnaise and eat it. cold. they are resistant to trying ANYTHING new.

Everyone have a great holiday and talk to you next week.

Merry Christmas

Yesterday was spent baking. Turkey is on and other than the mashed potatoes everything major is done.

We had 2-4 inches of snow last night but roads are mostly clear. It looks perfect.
