Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/17/2023

Just finished STS Disk 1 and Stretch Max with the ball. Every time I do STS I wish all over again that they'd fixed the issues in the Workout Manager. Missing exercises, out of order exercises, ones where you can't put in a 1RM... And I always laugh at the warmups that appear to have been done on speed, because the music was added later and they are so much fast than other warmups. LOL DH is still doing okay, but he still has a few more days on the prescription pain pills.

Carolyn great job with KCM’s Power Splits Lower Body. There are two bags of food in the closet waiting for Derek as he eats a much more basic diet than the rest of us, but he also makes his own food, and has for years now. But in his case, it's a taste/texture thing.

Valerie nice job with the walk. It's definitely above average temps here. It may be 50 on Christmas and no sign of snow other than one day with a chance of nothing but flurries. On the plus side, Nick's travel days are looking nice and dry and after the issues we've had with weather getting him to/from Grand Rapids a couple times I will absolutely take that! My go to non-dairy milk is Cashew. I like oat and flax, and I I'm okay with other except coconut. I don't like anything coconut.

Diane Sue great job with Raw Intervals 6, and the ab, yoga and stretch workouts.

Hi Judy.

cathy we are in an el nino pattern, with the warm puddle of water in the pacific that influences our weather. I dont know how big a factor that is for the midwest, but for the west coast it's huge. it affects weather all oround the world but we pay attention to whats happening in our own back yard. we will likely be drier than normal, warmer than normal, with a meager snowpack until late in the season. then hopefully el nino breaks down and we get snow. so the snowpack in the mountains gets close to normal. the opposite is la nina, colder and wetter with a lot of snow. in general anyway. weather is too finicky to get ahead of predicting it.

I walked over 20 miles this week according to DH. he's tracking my time and is estimating the mileage. he's big on keeping paper records. I can measure mileage around our neighborhood if I measure with the car, but I'm ok just tracking the time. he walks behind me and feels I look better walking than I have for a long time. I was starting to list to the left because of the shifting vertebrae that were out of place.

especially now I make sure I get enough protein. greek yogurt has been my go-to for breakfast for years now. I like almond milk but dont use it often. I have no issues with dairy milk, and I like nonfat. thats the best option. coconut milk to drink was awful IMO. I like it as ingredient in curries and coconut in cookies or cake. I didnt expect to dislike coconut milk as a beverage.
cathy that is so nice that you keep track of your boys so well. I felt like I was totally on my own after I was about 8 years old. I could have used some help but I didnt get it.

Good morning. Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga for 18 minutes.

Cathy, nice job getting started with the original STS disc 1 and Stretch Max. Food allergies are not fun. It was very hard explaining to an 8 year old that she couldn’t have her favorite foods of ice cream and pizza. I learned to be very creative with cooking! That’s also when I started blending frozen bananas for “nice” cream.

Valerie, that’s a lot of walking that you did this week. Great job.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

This morning I did Live Ready, Set, Step and STS 2 Total Body Stretch. It's snowing here right now, but there's no snow in the forecast after today until the day after Nick flies back to TX. Derek may or may not come home tomorrow. Watching two areas where they are getting snow today. Low ends he probably can, high end with the winds probably not.

Valerie that's fantastic that you are walking better and getting in good distances. El Niño is affecting us. Keeping us warmer than average and less snow. I've always made sure I knew what was happening in the boys lives, though that is way less than it used to me. I always went to school activities, volunteered etc. Even though they were both excellent students, it never hurts for the teachers to have a connection to the parent. Plus the school is small enough that they both had the same teachers, especially in middle school because there is only one science teacher, only one math etc. Derek is basically just waiting for me to tell him when to come home. LOL I've made that drive dozens of times in the last 6-7 years and have all the location along the way saved in my weather apps so I can study them, plus the state road condition maps and the Mackinac Bridge conditions.

Carolyn great job with the yoga. It would be hard to suddenly change the diet of a child that age. Mine were always vegan, until the baseball club introduced them to pizza, but by that point there were a decent number of vegan dairy options so they could have things like yogurt and ice cream. Though I mainly shopped at a local whole foods store, so they may not have been more widely available.

This morning I did ICE Bootcamp Circuit for 47 minutes and 289 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Cathy, great job with Live Ready, Set, Step, and STS 2 Total Body Stretch. It’s easy to find foods for all types of diets these days, but it was a different matter in the late 80’s and early 90’s. Fortunately, I love to cook and have always researched cooking styles and cookbooks. We managed and I learned some things along the way.

Waving hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

I became vegetarian in my mid twenties and DH and I had gotten together. it's a change that needs to have both people on board IMO. I was ovo-lacto because I traveled for work a lot and that was hard enough! restaurants literally had almost nothing to offer. I used to go to a business sales meeting at a fancy resort and lose 5 lbs in a week. I'd still have a hard time without dairy. carolyn that must have been traumatic! finding things an 8 yo would eat. I think my mother would have let me starve. ( just kidding. she was not adaptable or able to figure things out) Still that would have been tough, especially in wisconsin where dairy was everything. they were very big on baking things, desserts, cakes, pies, cookies, to the point Im lucky I dont weigh 300 lbs. we were trained to expect sweet things after every meal and for snacks.

walked around our yard for 30 min yesterday, up and down and around a few times.

today I walked the neighborhood for an hour, several miles

Today I did Raw Box for your waistline, 33 minutes, heart rate 139/174, 196 calories. I followed with Raw Tabata Weight Circuits, 35 minutes, 148 calories, heart rate 114/140. Total time was 68 minutes, 344 calories, 1,729 steps. I had to do a search on Raw to find this workout. It is in all workouts section. It was an earlier workout and I guess never categorized. I have not done this in a really long time. I am listing my weights as I went used a bit different weights. Yesterday was a rest day and fun at my daughter's house for family Christmas.

Today I did Boss Bands Total Body. That was 59 minutes and 208 calories burned. My average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 142.

Valerie, great job with walking around your yard and walking the neighborhood.

Diane Sue, great job with Raw Box for Your Waistline Raw and Tabata Weight Circuits.

Hello to Cathy and Judy.

Saturday I did 30 minutes of rowing and a 20 minute full body & core strength workout. Sunday I did a 45 minute Peloton ride, 10 minutes of arms and 5 minutes of core. Yesterday I did 40 minutes of Peloton rides and 75 minutes of Yin Yoga and stretching. I’m downloading the new workouts now and plan to preview them tonight.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disk 1 and Stretch Max with the ball & Live Ready, Set, Step and STS 2 Total Body Stretch.

Valerie-Great job with all of the walking. You are doing awesome with your recovery.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, ICE Bootcamp Circuit and Boss Bands Total Body.

Diane Sue-Great job with Raw Box for your waistline and Raw Tabata Weight Circuits.

Today I did CDorner Fast Step Aerobics #344 rock n roll, 47 minutes, heart rate 124/149,223 calories. I then did Raw TBTS Strength Abs, 15 minutes, 44 calories. I finished with CDorner Day 6 Total Body morning mobility adding a couple of stretches to it, 15 minutes, 35 calories. Total time was 77 minutes, 302 calories. I just realized that there are 2 different TBTS ab workouts. I like them both. Strength abs uses a 10# dumbbell and sculpt abs uses a lighter weight.

Cathy, nice work on Live Ready, Set, Step and STS 2 Total Body Stretch yesterday. I would be like you tracking the weather before your boys are travelling.

Carolyn nice work on yesterday's ICE Bootcamp Circuit and today's Boss Bands Total Body.

Valerie, that is great that you are getting a lot of walking in. I have mixed feelings on nut milks. Cashew is best as far as it does not have so much of a nut taste. I have digestive issues with a lot of things and there is a lot of calcium carbonate added to nut milks depending on brands. I try to get some calcium from dairy yogurt in the evenings. I love Cashewgurt, but I recently noticed calcium was pretty low in a serving as they do not add calcium.

Judy, nice work on 30 minutes of rowing and a 20 minute full body & core strength workout Saturday, Sunday's Peloton ride for 45 minutes and 10 minutes of arms and 5 minutes of core, and yesterday's Peloton rides and 75 minutes of yin yoga and stretching. I did not order the new workouts yet. It will be fun seeing others' thoughts. I will probably pick them up eventually.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one which was 26 minutes and 182 calories burned. My average heart rate was 131 and maximum heart rate was 168.

Judy, great job with the Rowing, Peloton ride, and Peloton strength workouts, and Yin Yoga. What a productive beginning of the week you have had.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step Aerobics, TBTS Strength Abs, and CDorner Stretch.

Hello to Cathy and Valerie.

we did a walk this morning in the local park, 90 minutes. it is so lovely out today. feels like almost 60 degrees, sunny and frogs and birds chirping. and no people!. park was ours, didnt see anyone else at all. lots of traffic on roads but no one in the park

yesterday I did a 20 min spin and a long series of curls. cant do any tricep (or overhead) things yet. I cant engage unless I lean forward and cant do that yet. sigh.... wish I could see him sooner as I think I'd get approval to do more but not until 1/6. he was taking some holiday time off.

I haven't tried cashew milk but so far I like dairy milk best, and then almond milk. I dislike soy milks and coconut milks and rice milk. I'm in it for the protein and calcium and dairy milk is best.

Yesterday I did STS Disk 2. Nothing today as I shopped. Tomorrow Nick has an early dentist appointment, so I'll just do a cardio if I'm up early enough. It's going to be hard enough to wake him up, I'm not having him drive my car that far. He's too used to working overnight and he slept till after noon today. We have to leave at 8:15. Good luck to me. Derek had a long, but uneventful drive down from Marquette. Nick's flight ended up being a bit early, so I didn't have long to wait for him. Now just crossing fingers that the weather is decent the day he goes back. Airport is about a 70 minute drive in good weather. But it's the closest one he can fly to direct. Starting Christmas Eve were supposed to be around 50 for a few days and it may be a bit rainy.

Valerie I'm surprised more people weren't out during your walk, though always nice to have a place to yourself. Great job with the spin and curls. When everyone is here I end up buying 3 kinds of milk, because Derek only drinks rice milk, which I find too sweet and has more calories, DH like soy milk, I prefer cashew and Nick will drink (or eat) pretty much anything that's vegan. I've had both experiences with partners vegan and non vegan. My husband was vegan when we met, my previous 15 year relationship, I became vegan about 3 years before we split, but that had nothing to do with the relationship ending. We got along well, but had very different interests, so me eating differently wasn't a big deal. We pretty much did our own food and he was good at getting what I wanted when he stopped and picked up food. There was a fantastic family owned Mexican restaurant we liked with amazing wet burritos. Was so sad when they went out of business.

Carolyn nice job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, ICE Bootcamp Circuit and Boss Bands Total Body.

Judy great job with all the Peloton workouts. My DVD's are supposed to arrive tomorrow, so I may get those before the OnDemand ones are available. I'll only be doing the cardio one for now though, I may try the legs bonus on an in between day.

Diane Sue CDorner Fast Step Aerobics, Raw TBTS Strength Abs and mobility.

Today I did CDorner Legs and Abs with dumbbells, 52 minutes, 141 calories, heart rate 98/132. I also did her Step workout she did today, Intense Step # 346, 21 minutes, 106 calories, heart rate 126/157. This was done with 2 risers on each side since it was short and used basic moves. It had pretty good music as well. I finished off with CDorner mobility day 3 lower body stretch, 14 minutes, 22 calories. Total time was 87 minutes, 269 calories, 3088 steps. I think I will do STS 2 Upper Body 2 tomorrow. I would use them more, but it takes planning to have equipment set up that is not already set out.

Carolyn, nice work on KCM Cardio Quick Fix 1 today.

Valerie, good work yesterday on the spin ride and long biceps and todays walk and nice weather.
I prefer the taste of coconut milk from a can. Those that are in the cartons have an odd taste. Plus coconut starts to go bad pretty quick and it tastes terrible. Some products like powdered creamers and milk out of coconut tastes like the milk that is turning bad to me. SO far the only oat milk product that I like is the Califa Farms barista blend that has no sugar. I have tried some others and right now have some Rise Brewing company barista oat milk and it is darker in color and tastes like ground oatmeal. I use it in my oatmeal and coffee.

Cathy, great job on STS disc 2 yesterday. I am glad your boys made it there safely.

No workout again today for me. Last two nights I've woken up in the middle of the night. Ugh Back from the dentist and at least I have nowhere else to go today. We're going to my parents tomorrow afternoon, but I should be able to get something in then.

Diane Sue great job with CDorner Legs and Abs, Intense Step and the mobility workout.

Yesterday I did Total Body Barbell and 20 minutes of rowing. Total Body Barbell is 50 minutes long and it went very fast. There is a good cardio factor in this one. I had to pause a couple of times to switch the weights on the barbell but hopefully I will be better prepared the next time I do it. I didn’t go as heavy as Cathe for most of the moves but I didn’t have to modify anything either. It starts out with lower body then goes into upper body with some compound moves and finishes with a short core workout. There is a 10 minute bonus of step ups, step crossovers and glute bridges. I will try to add it on the next time. I am very happy with this workout and will be doing it regularly.

Diane Sue-Great job with the CDorner workouts and Raw TBTS Strength and Sculpt Abs.

Carolyn-Great job with Cardio Quick Fix workout one.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disk 2.

Valerie-Great job with the walk, spinning and curls.

Another morning of walking, 95 minutes, same route at the park. no way to measure distance on this but thru dense lowland forest near salt water , with a lot of up and down on dirt paths. easier on the feet and knees than pavement.

the coconut milk I bought accidentally had coconut and I think something else with a pic of jillian michaels on the carton. I picked it up accidentally but tasted it and dumped it. I use coconut milk in recipes but the concentrated canned stuff, not a beverage to drink. used almond milk a lot for a while but switched to greek yogurt for breakfast and away from cereal so I didnt use it any more.

judy that sounds like a good workout. I am so looking forward to doing core and weight workouts again.

Today I did ICE Pyramid Pump Upper Body, up only premix. My time was 37 minutes and 126 calories burned. My average heart rate was 106 and maximum heart rate was 136. I’ve been going nonstop today with Christmas preparation. I try to cook a few things ahead of the whole crew arriving and freeze them. It simplifies things and I can enjoy myself more.

Valerie, great job with walking in the park, the spin ride, and bicep curls.

Cathy, nice job with STS disc 2. I’m sorry that you didn’t sleep well last night. I’m sure that you’re happy to have your sons home.

Judy, great job with Total Body Barbell and rowing. Thanks for describing the workout. My DVDs arrived today, but I won’t have a chance to look at them until after the holidays.

Diane Sue, great job with the CDorner workouts and mobility.

Today I did STS 2.0 Upper Body #1, 64 minutes, heart rate 89/122, 144 calories. I followed with CDorner Day 5 & Day 12 upper body and shoulder mobility stretches, 25 minutes, 34 calories. I did both because when I finished, I could already feel the workout. Loosened me up well.
