Cathlete
Good morning,

I can't believe it's December 13th and we have not had any snow. I hope this continues.

Judy, glad your sore throat is better. The one guy I listened to was not very prepared....I cut it off about half way through. Even Stephanie (?) was at a loss as to what to say to him. As for the bike, I am wondering it is it even possible use doing a spin workout? I guess the difference is that you can stand with a spin bike?

Valerie, using the chest strap without a watch that goes with it must be frustrating...that requires that the strap pick up the signal from the HRM on the equipment and like you said, that can be spotty. My treadmill has it's own HRM built in, and it's own chest strap but it is not reliable. Sometimes when I am wearing my Polar, it picks up my heart rate and displays it on the screen, but most times it doesn't This would be a nice Christmas gift for you from your DH. :). I hope they get WW straightened out. When MFP goes down or is a little cranky, I know I can't complain too much since it's free. Does your knee feel better when you use a brace while doing exercises?

Josie, one of my managers at work had cataract surgery and was so happy afterwards. She no longer wears contacts after wearing them for years. She uses reading classes once in a while. There was little down time...she just had to have one eye done, then wait a bit for the other.

Lori, we have an artificial tree that has the lights permanently on...talk about lazy! I like it though because they are perfect and no arguing about how many to put on, detangling the strands etc. We have not put up a tree for a few years though. I agree, I think Cardio Supersets has the windmills....it seems like I can hear Cathe saying that...and that was the one I did last week...

Hi Lynda!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Take care,

Deb, now that you mention it, I probably got the Polar straps with a piece of equipment. we've had 2 treadmills, an elliptical, a Versa climber, several Nordic tracks, a stationary bike, spin bike. we wore many of them out. I don't recall anymore which had HRM straps as part of the package, but more than one. th8ibnk I had 4 chest straps at one point. only one watch. I hadn't thought about where they came from. at any rate, the current equipment sort of works with both the last 2 straps.

I talked to several other WW members who post on another forum. not happy campers either. they've noticed different problems but they were members at the time of the change. I'd just re-signed up. two ladies do it mostly on their phones and they are NOT happy. I at least didn't see my "working" program disappear in front of me! it's only $30 for 3 months so not a big investment. one lady said her favorite yogurt and gone from 5 points to 13 points, a huge jump when you get only about 26 points per day for everything. 5 is manageable, 13 is not. I won't complain if I can get focus back. If WW doesn't have all my recipes on it anymore, and it looks unlikely, then going to a free system like MFP is not so different. that's one of the real annoyances, it took a long time to enter all that and calculate point values.

Did a fast 20 on the elliptical, the core workout from flex train and some floor leg exercises yesterday. Not wearing a brace yet. not sure how to make it push my kneecap over.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did DM (63:00).

I went to see Mockingjay part 2 yesterday. I thought they did a very good job with the finale. It is not a triumphant story because war really never is, and I was happy to see that they didn't distort Collins' intentions to make it more palatable.

Nope, windmills are not on Cardio Supersets. It's a weighted exercise where you have one arm up in the air holding a 5 lb. weight and the other arm slides down your leg sideways with the other 5lb. weight a bit like a deadlift. It looks easy, but I think Cathe even says you can do it with no weight at all. I thought it was on Supercuts, but I haven't done that one in a long time. Cardio Supersets I have done a lot. Maybe I'm thinking of another exercise name, because Cathe also does these little windmill like cardios on the second low impact hiit from RWH. It's the last hiit of that routine, and it's fun. Reminds me of the ones she used to do on one of her step dvds, except that you also had to turn on the step, which was a bit tricky.

I will try one of my Jessica Smith dvds tomorrow--I think the Cardio Abs looks pretty good if you do two of the sessions together.

Off to a party tonight. Hope two contrary things--that there's enough food that I'm not still hungry when we get home and/or I don't eat too much bad stuff at the party. Make any sense??

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did two Live workouts. Upper Body Express and For the Love of Cardio. I skipped the stretch from Upper and skipped the warm up for the Cardio and went right into it. Came in at about an hour. Maybe a little longer. Took Chester for a nice walk today. Loving this December weather.

Lynda...glad you enjoyed Mockingjay. I looked up the windmills and they are Right Standing Windmill then you switch to the left. These were not what I was thinking and yes they are on the Supercuts. Funny I can do it fine with my right arm up and left skimming the leg but have a harder time with my left arm up. Bothers my shoulder a bit so I go really slow on that side. I agree it was the windmill on the RWH you mentioned. After a while the workouts all kind of blend together! Looking forward to your review on the JS Dvd.

Valerie...I wish you luck with the WW. If it doesn't work out it seems like you have a good back up plan. Wow that is a huge jump in points on the yogurt. Your knee sounds like it would be so painful. It amazes me you are active as your are.

Deb...we bought a pre-lit tree a few years back and the cats still ate the lights! Paid a lot of money for that tree. Silly us! One year we had no lights at all. When I happen to see the tree we have at Walmart I scooped it up thinking it is better than nothing. Funny thing is we love it. So all is good.

Hi to Judy and Josie!!!
Have a great night all!

I got my new bike!! a trek cali. like the one I linked to before. 27" wheels not a 29. we decided that even though I can ride 29", it will be easier to get o9n and off the smaller frame on narrow trails. It was pouring rain and cold, the riding area a swamp or huge mud puddles. I rode all over with several bikes thru the mud and downpour. had my windblock tights, hooded baselayer, a hooded goretex jacket, a hat, gloves, sunglasses and all got soaked. I must have looked like a lunatic out there in the rain! traded in my old bike and some spare parts for credit. it's still hard to get on the bike rack but possible with the tube bar.

Lori, I read a bunch of comments from others on a WW forum and wow, people are ticked off and unhappy. I will use it as best I can and likely move to something else. I think this will be a huge PR fiasco for them. don't know what they were thinking.

ETA some sort of power blip so I shut it down . had a dinner to go to anyway.

I can't remember windmills? guess I'll need to do one of those workouts to find out. I have talked to a lot of folks... kneecap problem is not unusual. really hoping I can handle getting it into place with PT. Lori, most of the time it doesn't hurt at all. not even aware of it. but hiking and doing squats and lunges, the medium degree knee bend is what activates it. sometimes I go down stairs and feel nothing, other times it's uncomfortable. I'm hopeful this can be corrected with the right exercises. and it was good to see my knee cartilage etc looks great otherwise. there is lots of space where the knee cap is supposed to be.

Not agonizing over WW today. it's a mess. I'm sorry for them. they made a bad poorly planned move and a lot of people are unhappy.

Morning all.

Yesterday I did one of the workouts from the new KCM: Strength & Stamina. I liked it a lot.

Valerie, Yay for a new bike! You really gave it a good initiation ride! My treadmill was the only thing that I got that has a built in HRM. My Polar sometimes transmits to it but not consistently...that may be your issue. It could be the strap of something else, like you Nordic Track, and you are using it on eg the treadmill. It would be an inconsistent signal. Break down and ask for a good HRM for Christmas! Go over to the Polar site and check them out....I got the basic model...don't want or need all those bells and whistles, it just makes them harder to use. The new straps are all cloth, not the hard plastic one that came with the original.

Lynda, how was the party? as for that Windmill exercise, I don't remember anything like what you described....like you said, they are from some other DVD. It doesn't sound like something I would like. I do remember the ones in RWHITT Low Impact...those are good. I finished A Place To Call Home, agree...they need to have another season. I can't imagine it ending where it did, without resolving some of the storylines. EDIT: Just saw that at the moment, all episodes of season 3 are on YouTube!!! see link...
I didn't mean for it to post the actual video...but don't know any other way to post the YouTube link....

Lori, nice job on the workouts! Why do cats eat the tree lights? I can see them going after them and being dangerous ...but eating them....Very strange. :).

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Take care,

Hi everyone--

This morning I did two Jessica Smith Cardio Abs workouts and worked up quite a sweat. They were each 28 minutes long, and the first one felt kickbox like. The second one used weights, and i went down from 10 lbs. to 8 lbs. after the first exercise,. She has one-armed burpees on the second one that I obviously modified. She shows modifications so that you can lower the impact. Pretty tough though.

Deb, thanks for the youtube on season 3. I will have that to look forward to. The party was okay, but I didn't care for a lot of the food--too much fatty stuff like cheeses, dips, salami, etc. So I came home and made myself a fruit smoothie.

Enjoy your new bike, Valerie! I would give up on WW if it's that much trouble.

Lori, yes, that's the exercise I remember! I think it's deceptive because it looks easy, and then you really feel it in your side and back--or at least I do.

Left my office yesterday. It's empty except for the computer, so it's too depressing to go there. I'm working on cleaning up my work area here. Wish my new desk and file drawers were here.

Off to see the new movie of Macbeth this afternoon--with Fassbender as the antihero, and Marion Cotillard as his lady. I wrote my dissertation on this tragedy, so I always like to see new interpretations.

good morning... Lori, Cat ate the lights? I thought that must be a typo?

Lynda.. I look forward to your review on Macbeth... papers here gave it a stellar review.
I usually succumb to cheese and hummus. Love, love cheese. If I eat some with raw vegies I'm happy. stuck with carrots last night.

we had dinner with friends last night and I stuck to my diet. very small piece of fruit crumble for dessert.

we brought my bike inside so I can gaze lovingly at it in the family room! we hosed off the mud. It is so cute and is easy to ride. shifts like a dream, brakes have hydraulic assist.
didn't do a formal workout yesterday, just my "bike trials" in the rain for an hour. I'll try to find a pic of similar one. it's called waterloo blue. only color it comes in. yes, mt bikes are going colorful rather than all being dull black.
https://www.google.com/search?q=tre...X&ved=0ahUKEwjg866g7NvJAhVK2WMKHX_UBioQ7AkIKA tee hee it's the blue one!

Hi Everyone,

I didn't do alot this weekend. DH and I went to the gym Saturday night and I did about 40 minutes of circuit training. Sunday afternoon we went bowling. DH had a work bowling party this afternoon so he wanted to practice a little. It was fun, and I think we might start going more regularly again.
This morning I did 30 minutes of core work.

Deb-the new KCM workouts arrived today! I watched Strength & Stamina and I think I will love this one. I'm planning on doing it tomorrow morning. I watched part of Athletic Conditioning Part 2 and it looks good too. The first workout is standing and the second one is floor work, core & stretching. There were a couple of moves in the standing one that look a little challenging to me but I will give them a try. I can always modify if I need to.

Lynda-thanks for the review of the Jessica Smith workouts. I will have to put them on my wish list.

Valerie-I love your new bike! Very nice! You will have a blast on that!
I don't know if I mentioned it before or not but my mom went to weight watchers back in the early 70's. I still have her original book around here somewhere. It was a lot different back then of course. She went to weekly meetings and I seem to remember the diet being a lot of cottage cheese and canned lima beans. I'm sure there was more than that, but those are the 2 things I recall when I think of that time. I think it was 1973 so I was 10 or 11 at the time.

Hi to Lori & Josie!

Judy

Good evening ladies...

Today's rotation called for RWH Low Impact 2 but I did both 1 and 2. I really enjoy combining these 2 together. Makes a great workout. Looking ahead to next week' s workouts they are all the BodyBlast Time Savers. Curious if anyone has done any of these workouts. I bought this DVD when it came out but never did any of the workouts. :(

Valerie...congrats on your bike! I visited the link you sent and I agree it is a beautiful bike. Love the blue. Glad your knee is not as painful as it sounds. I bet you looked pretty funny out there in the rain. Now if it was me with a new bike I do not think I would want it to get wet and muddy. I guess that tells you how often I mountain bike. Yup my car ate the lights...well actually the wires not the light bulbs!

Deb..neither of the windmills are in RWH low impact. I just did these this morning and definetly not there. I know I recently did the windmills (not the one with weights) and it was a low impact. For the life of me I can not remember on what workout. No idea why they eat the wires. Must feel good to chew on them. We have 2 cats and it is only one of them that chews the wires. In addition to the tree lights she has chewed my computer cord ( this was expensive to replace), phone charges, extension cords. We finally learned nothing was safe around her. She is better now that she is older but she still goes up into the tree.

Lynda...I have always liked JS's personality and style. Very down to earth and I always enjoy her workouts. Good to know about those DVD's. Sounds like we should have ICE next week. I purchased the downloads and I plan to download immediately. As in the past, as soon as they start to ship, we will be able to download shortly after. When will you receive your new desk? Hopefully soon! Looking forward to your review of Macbeth!

Judy...how are you feeling?

Josie...how's your running?

Have a great night!!!!

Lori-I think we posted at the same time. I'm feeling ok, not 100% but getting better. I'm taking it easier this week and doing shorter workouts.
No 2 hour bike rides this week :)

I just noticed you mentioned the Body Blast time savers. I have those on my to do list this week too. I wanted to do shorter workouts so I thought I would give them a try.

I rode my bike down the hill we live on, and back up on the road, and also up and down our steep driveway x2, and down to the bottom of our lot and back up. steeper than I ever was able to ride the other one. our yard is challenging! not a long distance, but steep. I always worried about the brakes failing on the old bike. I love the new one! then did x train bi's tri's, core 1 and some leg exercises.

Lori, my knee gets sore and stiff when hiking but not otherwise so far. but something is wrong with the patella, so I need to get that fixed somehow. Even more than 2 yrs ago I was having issues with doing Warrior in yoga. that "middle spot" with my knee bent. it would snap and feel unstable. and now it's doing that with squats and lunges too. think it has been brewing all along, while the left one is 100% and no problem. I am confident I can get this worked out. I have good muscle mass and good joint space. not needing a knee replacement or anything drastic. Ha.. none of the young people were riding out there in the wind and rain. I must have looked crazy but I got the job done.

too funny ....my mother went to WW back then too. I went for a bit in the early 80's. OMG .... liver was a requirement. I can't eat liver, then or now. and a lot of artificial sweetener. and cutting bananas in half because one was "too much". the program has undergone numerous transformations. I think the points program was the most popular and flexible. it's the tracking , the recording, that makes it work and makes us accountable. I think they will get it sorted out but maybe not as quickly as I'd like.
5.

Morning...Happy Tuesday...

Yesterday I did Run Fit at the track with my cousin...36 minutes..250 calories burned...It was a gorgeous day for an outdoor workout.

Lynda, the workouts sound good....I hope I didn't lead you astray with the YouTube videos of A Place to Call Home. I watched the first 2 episodes...not bad but found out that there was a second ending (the last 5 minutes) of season 2 filmed...you will see what I mean if/when you watch episode 1 of Season 3. I was watching and had to scratch my head....Huh? where did that come from.....then on YouTube a little farther down I saw a 5 minute video titled A Place to Call Home...different ending to season 2...not sure why they do that. Then I can't find episode 3 at all. The one that is labelled as "3" is actually 6... I was all confused with that..... Ugh....I may bale out of this and wait for the DVD's to come out if I can't find episode 3....sorry...:(.

Valerie, love the bike! Like Judy, I also remember the "old" WW. My friend was an avid member, with the weekly meetings, weigh-ins...this was even before the point system existed. I don't remember the cottage cheese and lima bean menu, but it sounds like what they would do back then. For the online membership, I guess the forum replaces the meetings where everyone used to tell how they did the past week etc.

Lori, I actually sold that Timesaver DVD on Ebay a long time ago. I I think it was part of the CTX series...which is what I sold...If I remember, it was a lot of high impact and step for the cardio....not my favorite Cathe cardio...I think I was thinking about that one move in the RWHIIT Low Impact close to the end....where you go back and forth and your arms go up and around? She included it called it an "oldie" or something like that....I like JS too....and her workouts look a lot easier than they actually are.

Judy, you will have to let me know what you think of the new KCM....I am sore (good sore) from that and the track workout..not sure which did the most. I definitely feel my core/waist from sitting on the ball at the computer...:). Did you listen to any of the others in the Sleep seminar talks?

Josie, how are you doing?

Vet appointment today...Kylee has some eye thing going on....red around the outside of her eye....she had this before, I don;t like to play around with eye things....I have to pick up some meds anyway so I thought I would have it looked at.

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

Today I went for a 3 mile run at 7:00 AM and it was 46 degrees. It's still cold and it will be getting colder tonight. Karina is coming at 10:30, tomorrow I will be spinning and Thursday I will be doing bodypump and Karina and running on Friday. I want to get in as many workouts in before we go to Vegas.

Valerie, your bike is beautiful. I would love a new bike, but they are so expensive. I may just get some components upgrades on my bike.

Garance, what did you think of Fargo's finale? My DH was disappointed with last week's episode where the UFO appeared :),

Lori, my running has improved tremendously. My partner and I are getting stronger and faster, so on Friday we are planning on going further. If you want to get rid of your Zumba DVD's I would love to have them :). I will pay for the postage. I will e-mail you my address.

Deb, you are getting better weather than us. My DD is in NY right now and said that it was beautiful there.

Judy, have your ever had a roller trainer? I may have to do a lot of my training at home once I decide to do my cataract surgery. I'm supposed to wear my glasses for to weeks before my surgery and they are too heavy to wear while running and I hate driving while wearing them too.

Have a great day!

Josie

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with abs 1 (47:58).

That's all right, Deb--I will wait on season 3 until the DVDs come out.

Macbeth was pretty awful. Not a tragedy when he just goes crazy and murders everyone like a sociopath. Very tight close ups make the soliloquies seem absurd. It's very bloody and occasionally laughable. He goes off to see the witches the second time in his nightshirt. He burns Macduff's wife and children alive in front of a big audience. No stealth to any of the murders and Shakespeare is so careful about protecting his audience--the murder of Duncan is offstage, so all you see is his guilt and bloody hands. The murder of Banquo is only in dim light. And Macduff's!s wife and one child are murdered by hired killers, not burned at the stake in front of everyone. There is a big cathedral at one point that is totally out of a different era than medieval Scotland. At least at the end the director is clear--"BASED on Shakespeare's Macbeth." He should have added "very loosely."

Valerie, it sounds like you are in love with that bike, which makes it a great purchase. Enjoy!

Lori, I have that timesaver dvd from BB. I remember liking them when I had a particularly heavy workload.

Glad you are feeling better, Judy!

DH had his colonoscopy this morning and all is good.... no repeats for 3 yrs. Whoopee!! He's very pleased with that.

Deb WW still has neighborhood meetings. I don't want the inconvenience of going. Weighing in was hard to face. a little easier on your own scale at home. but you do get the benefit of a group. I know a lady who attends in person, but she's out of town on funeral arrangements for her mother. I'm waiting to hear her "inside " info. she's been very successful with the program, but just before she left she described the new program as " a mess".
Hope Kylee is Ok.
Josie is right, the east is getting way better weather. we are dry today but cold and cloudy. normal December weather here.

Josie, overall bike quality is much better than it used to be. our mt bikes were close to 15 years old. we didn't want to spend more on them... needed "overhaul", derailleurs were dying . New bike was about $1000 but with my trade in, I got a better deal. there were very nice bikes for $600. we didn't want to spend $200-300 per bike on the old ones. Like so many things these days...the parts and the labor are expensive. sometimes, going to brand new makes more sense. a bike shop can upgrade the old ones and resell them. all they invest is cost of parts at dealer costs, labor is an existing employee. then they can re sell. DH's old bike was already gone.

that is the downside of all the new eye procedures. I heard I'd need to go without contacts for a month before laser correction and said 'forget it". I never could wear glasses, except sitting in one spot. I'd have to go without correction except driving. my correction is not a lot, and if I'm home I often don't put in my contacts.

ETA Lynda, we both posted at the same time .
just goes to show how widely opinions can differ. the critics here loved Macbeth. I put it on my queue. It won't be the first time they raved about what I thought was a stinker, and v.v.

Josie, I haven't watched the finale yet, because I DVR it so I can skip over the commercials. My DH did not like theUFO either. He says, "Endings are always hard," remembering the first year of True Detective. I will watch it tonight instead of the debate.

Hi Everyone,

This morning I did KCM Strength & Stamina. I did the premix with both workouts. I went light with weight so it was probably more like a cardio workout than strength training but I really enjoyed it. I will be doing this one regularly. I like how fast it goes, very little rest so your heart rate stays up. I think I will do a few more KCM workouts while I'm waiting for ICE to arrive.

Deb-I hope Kylee is ok. I didn't get a chance to listen to anymore of the sleep talks, unfortunately.

Josie-I've never tried rollers. I do have a Kurt Kinetic Fluid Trainer that works good. It's easy to set up and will work with a road bike or mountain bike.

Valerie-That's great news about your DH! I bet he is very happy! I remember my Mom going to WW meetings and the weekly weigh ins. It seems better now to have the option to do it from home.

Hi to Lori & Lynda,

Judy

Good evening ladies!

Today was a rest day. My lower body has some doms from Sunday's workout then doing the RWH workouts yesterday. So I decided today would be my rest day for the week.

Lynda...good to know about Macbeth. Thinking I will pass on this. I haven't decided if I am going to do the Timesaver ones next week. Leaning towards stopping the rotation at the end of this week and concentrating on Barre. Of course this will all change if we receive the ICE workouts next week. :). One of the pictures on Cathe's calendar has her doing the one arm windmill. Made me smile.

Valerie...I agree with Lynda that you are in love with your bike! I think that is awesome. Makes working out really easy. I was picturing you while you were describing your ride today. Good for you! I stopped wearing contacts years ago. I wear glasses to drive but other than that I usually do not wear glasses during the day. Funny thing is the older I get the smaller the print I can read. So odd because usually most can not read tiny print. And when I say tiny I mean tiny. You would be amazed how small of a print I can read. Great news with your DH.

Deb...hoping Kylee's eye is ok. Poor baby. Chester is doing well. He has one more follow up appt. tomorrow. Great run! Today it was close to 60 degrees here today. This morning was wonderful. It did get rather breezy as the day went on though.

Judy...the new KCM's sound really good. Not enough for me to buy them though. Like I have said before between Cathe Live and SB I have so many workouts to choose from.

Josie...I need to catch up on Fargo. I have not seen any of Season 2 yet. Loved the first season. Yes email me your address if you have not done so already and I will send them off. Awesome your running has improved! It seems like it has been warmer here in New England than CA!

Have a great night all...my DH is working tonight so going to watch a few episodes of Dark Shadows. I am on 132 of 1245 episodes. This is going to take a while!
