Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 12/11

Deb, I am not doing yoga right now. I only did that the morning of surgery ( before surgery). I don't think I could do that with these drains. I do not intend on doing anything till I get the go ahead from the doctor. I want things to go well. I hope you hear back on the results soon. . Hopefully this nutrition plan helps.

I got more sleep last night than I have had in days. 6 hours. I have been feeling more wired than groggy since the surgery. I found it interesting that they stress nutrition for healing. They say cutting calories is not good for healing, 100 grams of protein and probiotics. It was good having my husband there with me yesterday because he remembers directions that I seemed to miss.

Hi Everyone,
No workout for me today. I needed to do some housework and some Christmas shopping. I'm starting to panic about Christmas as I do every year. There always seems to be so much to do with so little time. I realize that I cause much of my own stress because we don't need all of the frills to make a happy Christmas. I'm working on that.

Deb, I liked the live Smokin legs workout. It was more on the advanced side rather than intermediate. There are no cardio blasts in the workout.

Have a great afternoon.

Good evening ladies,

Felt like working out so I did a crazy power jump workout. Figured hey I might as well "jump" right in! :). Felt great too.

Deb...hope the nutritionist gets things balanced for you. It is amazing what you can correct with diet. Yeah new dvd's will be here soon. There is a good chance before xmas too. I ordered the downloads only and will heed Cathe's advice and wait a day before downloading. At first I second guessed whether I should have bought the dvd's too but I am happy with my choice. The way I make movies I can easily make my own premixes.

Valerie...I laughed when you called your hike a walk. A walk to you is probably extreme hiking to me!!!! A lot of people complained about the sound a likes in some of Cathe's workouts. They do not bother me at all. I have never purchased off a registry. Will be curious to see what others say about the shipping.

Diane Sue...how sweet your husband put up the tree. That is fantastic about the sleep. Sleep is also good for healing. For those kind of appts I always bring my husband or vice versa. Between the 2 of use we get all the information.

Carolyn...you have me intrigued with the smoking leg workout. Going to check out the clip after I post here. Do you host Christmas? Our tradtion for the past 6 or 7 years is Chinese for Christmas dinner. My son was visiting last night and I asked if he still wants this and he said absolutely! It's tradition! I'll have to say clean up is a breeze.

Judy...How did you like the strength workout? I am definitely doing that one this weekend. I'll enjoy it. I thought the JS walking ab looked like fun. Going to do that one as a finisher. Enjoy your time with Chris! Bob and I still really enjoy our weekend time together. We are so happy that he found the job he has.

Have a great night all!

Hi Everyone,

Today I did Pure Strength Legs & Abs. That is a good workout. I think I will be sore tomorrow.
It's snowing now. The forecast says we will get 5-7 inches tonight, then freezing rain tomorrow.

Deb-I do have the Live subscription. I previewed the 2 recent leg workouts and they look good. I have them
on my list to do soon. I hope the gluten/dairy free diet works well for you. I should try going dairy free for
awhile. I probably consume too much dairy.

Diane Sue-I dread winter too, and so does Chris. We are both ready to move to a warmer climate.
That is great that your husband is taking such good care of you! I'm looking forward to the new spin workout too.

Carolyn-that live Smokin Legs workout did look advanced. I will probably have to modify a little.

Lori-I really like the PS Legs workout! I will do that one again. I like JS's walking ab workouts. That is great that Bob found a job that he likes and that he doesn't have to work weekends anymore.

Hi to Valerie!

Have a great weekend!

Judy

Good morning,

I met my friend for breakfast yesterday, it was a nice visit. We met when we both started working at the brokerage house the same day...that was 44 years ago. She did not stay on there, but we still stayed in contact all these years. I called for the blood work results which were negative for Celiac disease. I was pretty sure that was what it would be.

Diane Sue, that's great that you slept better the other night...I wonder helped? More protein?

Carolyn, I can understand how it is easy to start panicking when it gets closer...I was like that for Thanksgiving...and you are correct, it always works out in the end.

Lori, glad you are feeling better and got a great workout! Chinese for Christmas dinner sounds good....Just like in The Christmas Story movie. LOL :). It's so nice that you are able to share weekends with Bob now.

Judy, I hope the snow passed you by. We didn't get much here...and today the forecast is for rain...go figure. Of course, it is all supposed to freeze over night and we will be encased in ice. When you choose your workouts, are you following a workout plan, eg...upper-lower splits, or total body etc?

Not sure what is up for today...lots of HouseMax for me to do that's for sure,

Take care,

Deb-it looks like we got a few inches last night, but not as much as the forecast was calling for. They are saying it's going to rain this afternoon then get cold again tomorrow. Right now I'm not following a specific workout plan or rotation, I've just been doing some of Cathe's older workouts for the rest of the year. I'm trying to decide what rotation to start in January. I was planning on an STS/Body Beast rotation, but I want to fit Strong and Sweaty in too.

Lori I use the bridal registry for people I don't know well. might stop duplicate gifts, gives an idea of what they can use, and gets the gift to them if you don't know where they live. I use this mostly for family we don't know well, like nieces and nephews were aren't very close to. I always thought the gift purchases were recorded and filled near the wedding but maybe I was wrong and it's not done like that. I got them 2 sets of towels for their gift.... nothing I want to carry along.

we snowshoed yesterday, 4 hours. this was a great workout! we used an old road we used to ski. it's gated and open to foot traffic but not maintained. It's very messy with lots of trees and branches down that need to be climbed over. not easy with snowshoes and even less so on skis so probably can't ever ski it again. the road is around 5 miles total. we haven't been able to get to the upper parts for several years now. the lower parts are where the blowdowns are, and it took 2.5 hours to go less than 3 miles. we cleaned up some of the lower road in fall, but still a lot of debris left. It was pretty cold for here, about 15 degrees when we started. we should have taken our lunch with us and then could have gone further. we can go back and repeat this one but will take lunch along. I got tripped up climbing over a tree and ended up with a gigantic bruise.

Deb, good news that you don't have celiac. too bad it is taking so long to figure out what it is. best to try and rule out dietary issues.
Judy, we may be in the same spot in a day or two, it's been quite cold and when it warms and shifts to rain, there are a few hours of awfulness while ice builds up.... then power lines and tree branches go down and of course driving is dangerous. winter is such fun!

diane sue ...good that you are paying attention and following doctors orders. sometimes you need to rest let healing take place. it will be hard to back off completely but you don't want to mess with success. nice time to get a flat tire! I will take another look at Intensity when I get my full size step, but I'll be pleasantly surprised if there is anything on that one I can do.

Today I did Going Strong, an Amy Dixon workout from the gethealthyu website. The full name on her DVD is Breathless Body 4: Going Strong. It is a combination of metabolic strength training and cardio HiiT. There are 3 people in the workout, each doing a different level. This was a good workout.

Judy, the Smokin Lower Body has quite a few deadlifts. I think I only did half of the last set.

Deb, it seems that dairy and gluten are the most common items that people are sensitive to. Hopefully you will start to get an idea of what your irritants are.

Lori, we always have a big Christmas dinner, but with less fuss than Thanksgiving. The day is much more leisurely. Two of my daughters will be home again and we will probably have other family to drop in.

Diane Sue, I hope you are still doing well.

Hi to Valerie.

More rest today. I slept quite a lot last night and today. I guess I am making up for lost sleep. I no longer need anything for pain. I am starting to feel a bit bored already. It is not in my nature to do nothing. It is very cold here today. Right now we are getting a dusting of snow. They say tonight and tomorrow temperatures will be below zero. You can hear the wind whipping around.

Lori, you must be feeling much better since you did a Power Jump workout. Nice work.

Deb, that is good that it is not celiac. At least you won't be dealing with that. It is good to check out everything though. I generally eat quite I sure hope the nutritionist helps. I usually eat quite a bit of protein so I am not sure that that is what helped me sleep. I have some protein powder most nights with calcium and magnesium in the hopes of getting more sleep.

Valerie, I remember on some gift registries that I was able to mark something that I purchased from another store so that it would not be purchased twice. I think it also gives the recipient a place for returns though. My daughters had gift registries. It is handy when you do not know what some people need or want. Towels are something that anyone can use, even if they are not necessarily the right color. I wouldn't want to carry towels on a flight. It is odd that they would want to ship it out right away when the registry has a wedding date on it. That makes no sense.
As far as recovery they told me the I might be feeling good and like I can do things but the body says no, it is healing. So, I am trying to make this go well so I can do the things that I want to.

Carolyn, I am sure that you are going to have a wonderful Christmas. You are right, all of those details are just extra. It will be a great Christmas even if they are not done.

Judy, I am hoping to play with some of Strong and Sweaty in January myself. I probably will be limited through January though. STS and Body Beast would make a nice rotation together.

Good evening ladies!

This morning was Pure Strength Legs. Loved going back in time. I then did a couple of SB lower targets to finish things off...her bridge target and pretzel. I am sure I will feel this tomorrow.

Diane Sue...I know what you mean when it is doctors orders to not workout. A few years a go I needed some surgery and had to take quite a few weeks off from exercise. Was very hard to do but of course I did. Then once I was feeling better I still could only do very light workouts do to the type of surgery. I hated it but it needed to be done. You will be back at it soon enough and feeling great. I am feeling so much better. Still sniffling but can breathe.

Deb...good that things came back negative for celiac. But still frustrating that you Still have no answers to the root of the problem. Perhaps the nutritionist will have answers. It was exactly because of that movie that gave us the idea to do Chinese. Bob's favorite Christmas movie that we always having playing on Christmas! Very nice to still be friends after 44 years. I have friendships like that too. My 2 dearest friends and I meant over 50 years ago.

Judy....I loved the leg workout...i skipped the abs though  We got about 6+ inches today. Was horrible driving as it was a very slippery snow. Thank goodness Imhave snow tires. There were a couple of hills where cars could not go up. I was able to though. :)

Carolyn...I like Amy Dixion and have her first 3 Breathless workouts. They are tough! Like that she shows different levels. Nice that your daughters will be there. How many children do you have? I have just my son.

Valerie...I have never snowshoed. I can't even imagine how hard it must be. Great job!!!

Have a great night all!
