Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B: 11/6

Did GS chest/triceps late yesterday. Sticking to mostly knee pushups though started with 16 on my toes. my shoulder seems better again but I am sticking with doing a fair number of knee ones more frequently before trying toes all the time. will try to do some every day even if not doing a upper body workout. I don't want to restart STS until I feel like my shoulder is happy.

Deb, you have the new series, it's not going away. why not do something you're comfortable and familiar with to get back in the rhythm? for upper body I like the GS series. not frantically fast and about 45 min. for lower I like LBB which isn't old but seems to get the job done. which older workouts do you have? does not have to be an advanced workout to be effective especially if you haven't done a lot for a while.
I don't know how accurate my spin bike explanation is, but that's my first impression. intense cardio with no impact.

we may be getting a windstorm today so I'm posting early in case the power goes out.

Happy Friday!

My DD and I went to our bar class last night and I plan to go today at 9:30. I also plant bike this weekend if it does not rain, otherwise I will be spinning at the gym.

Valerie and Deb, the bike explanation is correct. Valerie, I saw a very nice spin bike a our Sport Chalet. I don't know if there is one near you, but it was $599.00 reduced from $799.
I'm tempted to get one as my Christmas present.

Hi to Garance, Cathy and Joan!

Have a great weekend!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did the upper body split on Total Body Trisets (56 min.).

Deb, I will just keep working out with these new dvds for awhile and see if there are any notable changes. I am wondering 1) with the calorie burn so high on these whether I will lose some weight or find myself hungrier than usual; and 2) whether my cardio endurance improves, because these are more challenging than the cardio workouts I've been doing (!). There's enough weight work on these and core challenges that I'm not especially worried about losing the strength gains from STS. My attitude is the trite Nike saying, "Just do it!" I really did like Athletic Training by the way. It starts out like gangbusters, and then gradually slows down.

Valerie, maybe the upside on the flea problem is that you have a good excuse not to visit. With 15 animals involved, it sounds like a veritable epidemic.

Another comfort Sunday this weekend. I think it's a Mexican theme this time. Yum!

Josie, I know your son is a veteran. Wish him the very best and many thanks from me.

Hi to Joan and Cathy!

hey all, so sorry to awol. it has been crazy. was out of town and when i got back, my brother had taken a turn for the worse. (cancer). he went to be with the Lord oct. 31. we just had the funeral this past tuesday , so it has been a busy week. we miss him so much, but he is out of pain and w/Jesus and happy.
i did the new low impact last week, and today i did athletic training again. they are super hard IMO. i barely made it thru today, just so tired , i guess from all the stress the last month. i will try to check-in more often. we also are working hard to get the new house ready, so just so much going on. but, thanks for remembering me.:)

well, no wind and no power out so far. plenty of rain.

Anyway, did 15 min bike, 15 treadmill, and then LBB, including floor work. didn't think I'd get thru it at first, but a couple short breaks to change up weights was enough & I kept going. then 30 knee pushups. I'm doing those almost every day until they get to be no big deal.

yeah, I don't want to visit the flea circus. nobody is bothered as much as I am. my brother has 2 dogs and a couple of cats, my mother has ( due to brother who keeps finding them) about 6 cats, sister has a dog and several cats maybe 3. I should go back for a visit but I really don't want to.

Cathy, sorry about your brother. It's a hard process, for everyone.

Morning all,

Yes, it's a Wild Wonderful Weekend for sure! Any weekend where I am not travelling or working is wonderful, maybe not so wild.

Keegan's agility class and then play group for both dogs. Do you think they run our lives or what? Anyway, we have fun with them, so that is what counts.

Valerie, I have almost all of Cathe's workouts, except some series, like the STS cardio one, and CTX, or whatever that one was, ( I sold it on Ebay) and the one with Drill Max, I sold that one on Ebay too. I like workouts that are 30-45 minutes, like to alternate weight work with cardio days. Things like barre, and circuit seem to "upset? my stodgy ways and that is why I go into avoidance mode I guess. Tomorrow I will do something, regardless of what it is. I was thinking of trying the Athletic Training one, doing a shorter pre-mix. LOL on the "flea circus" :)

Josie, have fun biking this weekend! Yes, thank your son for his service to our country!

Garance, maybe I should take your way, and just go for calorie burn, don't worry about alternating weights with cardio etc. I could sure use the calorie burn. Can't wait to hear what the Mexican menu was. Yum.

Cathy, your brother is in a good place now, but I know it is hard. Thoughts are with you and your family.

Well off to get some stuff done around here before class...

Take care,

Josie, thanks but we don't have that store. we have a lack of available spin bikes in the entire area. happy riding, hope it doesn't rain.

Deb, when I feel like the challenge might be too much (after I've been sick) I do something I know I can do, comfortably. gets all the parts moving without too much doms, and psychologically it helps me not to overdo. nothing makes me feel worse than popping in a disk and finding I can't get thru it. so I have the attitude that "something" is better than "nothing" but if "something" gets me sore, I'll go into avoidance the next day. so for me, it's better to start back a little slower but consistently. not everyone will agree with that approach but it's what works for me. tortoise vs hare?

I like alternating cardio and weights. I'm finding (at this late date!) that Cathe's cardio is tougher than I'm used to. I'm used to cardio going on for several hours but at lower intensity. Yes, I can hike uphill for 4 hours but that's different than the shorter term intensity of her workouts. so I'll see how adaptable I am.
