After intense study of the 7 locations I have on my weather app between here and home, I decided to head out at 6:30 yesterday morning. I knew Sunday night most of the roads in the UP were okay, not so much the northern lower peninsula and from the NMU parents group, I knew where everyone was running into the worst roads. I knew it was going to snow again at home later in the day, but also knew the roads in the last half of the trip weren't going to be totally clear very early. The only rough patch I hit in the UP was on the Seney Stretch. The Seney Stretch is notorious. It's 25 miles of absolutely straight road and snow and wind are the enemies. Though in good weather it's considered the most boring stretch in the state. It was good for a good portion of the start, but then it went down to tire lanes that kept shrinking. At the point where I was down to 40-45 I suddenly came across a part that was totally covered with a layer of slush, snow and ice. Weaved a bit, let off on the gas, held the wheel steady and held my breath. Got straight and crept on through. About 1/2 a mile. Then I was back to having pavement for the tires. A few miles later was my planned rest area stop and I sat their awhile chilling out. Soon after I had a 17 mile drop down to US 2 on a road that was wet and a bit iffy on the edges. Thankfully, traffic was light and US was clear. Every stop I was perusing the bridge to Harrison area because that's where there were still slow areas. Fortunately by the time I cross the bridge they had all gone back up to speed. Trip was an hour longer than going up, but that was mostly do to the extra dawdling I did. We got a couple inches over night again. Just really hoping things are better when I go back up the 10th.
No workout yesterday, this morning I did Timesaver Step Groove which I'm pretty sure I've never done before. Three combos, and she doesn't put them altogether at the end, so it was 35 minutes. Then after breakfast I did Total Body Band Blast. She used two strengths of tubing and the green loop. I also used my green Boss Band loop for one move. It alternates low impact hiit moves with strength moves. I really liked it and it would also make a good travel workout. I figured out my December rotation Sunday. I've been trying to do two workouts (before and after breakfast) but I can't do that once Nick comes home. I'm also doing STS again starting in January, so I'm working in my 1RM's, too.
Valerie I'm really sorry to hear that your hip problem has gotten so much worse. I'm sure you'll be very relieved when you can finally talk to the doctor. I'm not a fan of flying either. My sister and her husband fly a lot. She flew up to Cleveland today to meet up with her new boss. They don't think much of it.I will avoid it as much as possible. Nick is flying out of Dallas/Fort Worth which he'll have to figure out on his own. I'm having him fly into Grand Rapids because it's so much smaller than Detroit. They are about the same distance from us. My DH is a really bad traveler. I would never attempt flying with him, and after our 2 night trip to the UP last summer, I'm good not even doing that! I hope everything goes smoothly for you.
Carolyn, great job with the step workout and S&S PHA! I can't remember if there's a premix for just the combos on IMAX 3, but I used to do them that way even before I created it on the Workout Blender. The blasts do have a lot of impact and I can't remember the last time I did the whole thing, though I keep thinking I should.
Judy great job fitting in the Peloton workouts!
