Good morning,

No workout yesterday, but we did clean the training hall for about 2.5 hours so I am counting that as my workout. It really needed it. Unfortunately, out of a membership of about 65 people, 6 of us showed up. Not really happy about that. The next time someone complains about the hall not being clean, they are going to get a piece of my mind!

Diane Sue, I would be lost without my Nook. I have the first one that came out. I remember being really doubtful that this "reader thing" fad was going to last. LOL.. I like that you can see the % of cardio on your FitBit graphs. I hope the BB work in the new S&S workouts will be on the lighter side...it appears since she is using on the step etc, the BB would not be too heavy. Like you said, you can switch to DB's as well.

Lori, I can just see how Gigi and little Nilla would be overjoyed when you got home. I can understand how even though you have a good time, and the weather is nicer, it's always good to get home. I have only put one new battery in my original Nook since I got it. John has had 3 Kindles, now has the Kindle Fire. He hardly uses it though.

Judy, thanks for posting those clips of JS workouts. That knee one looks good. I will need to keep those in mind. I didn't realize she has a FB page, need to go check that out. Can't wait to hear what you think of the new KCM's

Carolyn, I am not surprised that your daughter had a hard time with Afterburn...it takes a lot of stamina to get through a Cathe workout, especially the more advanced ones like Afterburn.

Valerie, that new version of the step with risers that can be used either as slanted or regular is pretty interesting and does look like a good deal. My 2 slanted ones were very expensive and can only be used to slant the main board. I just hate having to switch them out too, easier to just remove 2 of the regular ones. Still have to have a number of regular ones ( I use 3 on each side) to use the platform as a weight bench. Since you are buying a platform anyway, with free shipping, I think that is a good deal. The PHAT workouts that Cathe has in her Live warm up give me even a greater cardio calorie burn...and the weight work is not just lighter weights to help the cardio, I consider them full weight work as well. Its that you move quickly between exercises, with little rest that keeps the heart rate up. I think your DH would enjoy them if he tried one.

Caitlin, strange that you can't get your Amazon password...I hope you are able to get that sorted out with the new laptop.

A workout, ( I think one of the PHAT ones), then the infamous "clothes switch" which I am late in doing this year...

Take care,

Good morning ladies!

I ended up taking GiGi for a 2.5 mile power walk and that ended up being my only workout. It is very hilly the route I take and have not been on it in a while. Chester and I used to walk it when he was able too. Thought GiGi is old enough to start going on the longer walks and boy she loved it. I am excited too as it is a great workout.

Valerie...I may be the only one that uses my slanted risers. They were so expensive so you bet I use them. Lol!! I do agree with everyone though they are not really necessary. The new ones you posted can they be used and combined with existing risers? That would be ideal.

Deb..yes all they cleaning is a workout! I hear you about people not helping out yet complain. Very fustrating. Good for you that your original nook is still going. I am on my second kindle.

Judy...I was hoping my KCM dvds would come yesterday but they have not. I have been previewing JS 10 minute workouts and they look great. I can see easily adding these in. Thanks for posting the other 2 links. I now will be buying them! I like how she shows 3 levels in most of her workouts. Sometimes I go along with her and other times with the more advanced version. I like having these options.

Diane Sue...Great workout..I have the 4 day split and rarely look at it. I really should as it is a great set. I have a 20# weighted bar I plan to use instead of the barbell. If it is to light for the exercises then I will switch to dumbbells. I tried to estimate what the weight was for her barbell she was using. Did not look crazy heavy. I like JS alot. Sometimes you need a more friendly workout...yet at times she is tougher than she looks. Her workouts are easy to modify up or down.

Carolyn...when my son and I did p90x a few years back he quit half way thru and of course I finished! Lol! Afterburn is really tough in her defense and if you are not used to a Cathe workout I can see how it would be a real challenge.

Caitlin...hope you get your Amazon worked out. I am such a Prime shopper. Think I would start having withdrawals if I could not "Prime" for a few days!!

No plans today...going to workout BEFORE I take GiGi for a walk. This way I'll be sure to get it in.

Have a great day all!

Diane Sue...I rewatched the boot camp clip and she mentiones her barbell is 20# barbell so this works great. I like using my bar in place of a barbell. It is balanced since the weight is distributed evenly. I have been thinking about buying a 30# one but hate spending the money for it. Been waiting for a sale.

Thank you all for saving me money. I was surprised at the price. The newer ones are 32$. They also work like a standard riser so multipurpose so I will look at again before deciding

Deb, too bad such a low turnout.... scheduling cleanup for this weekend might make it unlikely for a lot of people. family events probably over ride a lot of good intentions.

...Lori I also make a point to use something if it was costly, at least for a while....... cumbersome things get forgotten eventually though. I always feel guilty about not using the high step much but I never got to like those workouts.

I was trying to remember if Afterburn was the workout that started out on with a step warm up? That was a workaround for me since my small step was too easy to trip over. should be usable ( in theory) but you need to watch your feet to be sure you don't misstep, and then you can't watch the screen.

Yesterday I did a 35 min spin premix, core 2, and muscle meltdown triceps. a good combination.

ETA to say I found the full size step and the 4 risers for $75. for only $10 I will give those new risers a try.

Good Morning,
Yesterday was very busy but we had a wonderful time with my brothers and their families. It's quiet here again because the grandkids just left. I don't have a workout planned for today.

Lori, I was using the slanted risers because I had purchased them but it just seemed like too much trouble.

I looked at some of the Strong and Sweaty clips and I already know that I will use dumbbells for most things. If the barbell is held in front of my body I will use it. I am glad that Cathe is showing modifications. One of the things I like about JS workouts is that she shows three levels of difficulty.

Today I went to my daughter's for brunch and 3 of us played some games. I had to hit the stores on the way home. That took awhile!
It is damp and windy today. I ended up wearing a light jacket. I think tomorrow will be cardio or lower body. I had so much pain in my neck and throbbing clear across both lats and shoulders yesterday. I took way too much Tylenol and Advil. I tried icing as well. It just was not working itself out and I accomplished very little last night. Today it hurts but is much better.

Deb, I think in clean up it is almost only a few dedicated people that show up. It is sad that people are willing to take advantage but not help. That makes me think that my granddaughter had a film and script to put together with an assigned group at the university. She ended up writing the script and setting it up herself. Then no one wanted to show up to do the parts. She had one Dad come and act and two come to film and do the sound. That was it. My daughter and some of the older grandchildren ended up acting for it. It would seem those others that did the no show or work would not get a grade for it. Wouldn't it be obvious when they are not in it? I think it looked like the barbell was on the lighter side. Maybe like Body Max the original ?

Lorie, that is great that Gigi loved going for a longer walk. Gertie loves it. I don't do it near enough. She tries to put her head into the loop collar and gets so exited it is hard to get it on. I tried the harness but I find it is harder to control her.
I am the same way with equipment. If I spent money on it I use it. Sometimes I see a piece of equipment I have been neglecting and I find some workouts to use with it and pull it out. Now if I still had my other step bench ( I tossed it when we moved because I had the rubber stuff taped on) Slanted risers might have been good because I could have both a incline bench and a flat bench set up. My body bar is 11 pounds so even if I wore 2# gloves it would only be 15# but that is a good idea with the bar. If it is 20# that is not too bad for a barbell. I have not looked at the Total Body Giant sets clip yet. I will have to check.

Valerie, that is great that you found a good deal on the step bench and risers. I remember the Athletic workout on the Low Impact Series using the step. I am trying to remember Afterburn. For some reason I only remember it being intense and burpees, and plank walks, push ups with discs or something like that. It is not an easy workout.

Carolyn, I hear you on the quietness when the grandchildren are all gone. Sometimes it is kind of a let down though. Particularly when we lived further away. I felt kind of sad when they left. I do not like holding the barbell in front of my body for things like front squats.

Caitlin, Amazon customer service has always been good about helping with things. I bet if you called them and explained your problem they could help. Isn't there a place for forgetting your password?

Diane Sue-Thank you for the links. I'm going to order Knee Hab. I like Jill Miller and that one looks like it will be a good one.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did Live PHA Training, ( the first PHAT workout that she did). These are great workouts. Really looking forward to the new one on the DVD's.

Lori, good girl Gigi! Going on that long walk must have tired her out too. LOL when you said you would have withdrawals if you could not "Prime" for a day.....I feel the same way.

Diane Sue, sorry about your neck and shoulder pain...what do you think caused it? A workout? I was glad to hear that the BB in the new DVD was only 20 pounds. That is pretty doable. That's awful what they did to your granddaughter when all she was doing was trying to complete an assignment. I hope the others got a failing grade. Agree on harnesses...not good for controlling a dog...they actually make it easier for the dog you pull you.

Judy, I didn't realize there were so many good knew rehab workouts out there! Glad to know, but hope I never have to use one. :). I previewed the new KCM's and really think I will like the Body Design one. Mixing those 15 minute workouts looks really good.

Valerie, I think if they had the kind of slanted risers that you are looking at, I would be buying them instead of the ones that Cathe put out...they are cumbersome to change during a workout, and also to store when not in use. The ones you are looking at are so much better. The funny thing about the clean up date, we voted on that during the last meeting and a bunch of people said it would be no problem to do it on that day...

Carolyn, I can see how everyone leaving can be a let down of sorts, but I also enjoyed the quiet once they are gone. I think Cathe doing modifications is a kind of "break through" for her. In the last series when she had Amanda doing some modifications, it was almost like she was reluctant to do them, and once in a while, actually slipped in the high impact moves instead. This one is more like how Cathe does it in the Live workouts...

A workout, (I think I will try stringing a couple of the 15 minute KCM's cardio ones) then my cousin is coming over to visit for a bit before she has a meeting. Class tonight...

Take care,

Today I did Athletic Training from the Low Impact Series. I have not done these LIS workouts for quite a well and I didn't remember them well. Athletic Training is a great workout, but challenging.

All of the family members are gone now and I'm putting the house back together. It is definitely bittersweet because I miss them already. Oh well, that's a part of being a parent.

I did a rock em sock em pre mix and core 1 yesterday. I liked it but I don't get my heart rate up. this was all upper body as I was planning on skiing today. Again, thank you all for giving me a heads up on the expensive slanted risers. I looked a couple months ago for a full size step. now the price is lower, plus this modified riser has shown up. I can hardly believe both for $75.

maybe it was Athletic training and not Afterburn that used the step some of the time. I remember doing both of them but not feeling Ok using the small step.

Deb too bad people voted for something and maybe had no intention of following thru. at least it turned into a workout for you.

we intended to drive to the mountains to xc ski today, but it's too stormy. maybe a lower elevation hike later if it dries out.

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did a premix of KMC's newest DVD...with the 15mins workouts. I really liked it a lot. It was the premix with Cardio Sculpt which is light weights/high reps then it continued on to Leaner Legs which is the lower body workout. For the most part I went a little heavier with weights on the lower but kept about the same on the cardio sculpt. I used my ankle weights for both. I liked she had a little bit of barre (with ankle weights :)) at the end. Calories burnt was 254. Pretty decent for this workout. I only had 30 minutes since I needed 30 minutes for my morning powerwalk with GiGi.

Yesterday's workout was power jump #35 followed up with SB's newest rebounder/barre workout. The power jump was a great one that I will do again and again. Once I got to the SB it felt so tamed! So I needed to seriously pump it up with the crazy jumping when it came time to jump. By doing this, then the barre interval, I ended up really liking it. SB mentioned to jump how you want to so I did. :D Total workout time was 61 mins and 577 calories...so close to 600!

Judy...obviously I received my new DVD's. They actually did come on Saturday just very late after we checked the mail and assumed we had none. For some reason I decided to check at some point on Sunday and I was pleasantly surprised!

Deb..I saw your post about a modifier for the entire workout on cardio slam. While I was watching the clip my brain was thinking... this is going to be a tough one! On weekends I used to go close to 4 miles with Chester. We always stopped 1/2 way for his swim. Hoping GiGi gets to this point and enjoys it as much as he did. She certainly has the energy for it.

Diane Sue...oh so sorry to hear your neck was bothering you. Chester was crazy with excitement when it was walk time. It was so hard to clip his leash to his coller. GiGi just steps into her harnesses so calmly. But once we start walking she is a little spit fire! She is going to give me great workouts like Chester did! Sounds like a great day...games and then shopping!

Valerie... glad we could save you some money, though I find we are more enablers than anything else! Athletic Training definitely uses the step in the beginning. Xc skiing sounds great. Hoping it worked out and you were able to go.

Carolyn...I like Athletic Training more so than Afterburn if I am remembering correctly. That is exactly how I feel when my son visits. I miss him.

Have a great night all!

Did Flextrain today and I guess I am starting to actually compare the difference between cathe "intermediate" and cathe "more advanced". I know I've done flextrain before and usually do weights similar to cathe, a little less on some moves. at any rate, it was harder than I expected. but I did it with longer breaks.
Lori, no ski today, weather in mountains was crummy. will maybe try again tomorrow, looks less stormy. Yes, you are all just a big bunch of enablers!!

Today I did X Train cardio legs, 58 minutes, 349 calories. I the did X Train legs barre, ball and chair segments, 27 minutes, 70 calories. Total time was 85 minutes, calories burned 419. I used Cathe's weights today. I really needed to focus on housework today. It feels good t have things caught up after Thanksgiving. I got Gertie's weekly supply of doggie cookies made. I finally found a recipe that works fine for her. That and the Blue Basics Salmon and Potato dry food and we have been doing great for some time. We had one incident at the start and it just took a day to get her back on track. I really think she ate too much stuff that day when the grandchildren were here. They tend to drop food and gummy fruits etc..

Deb, I am looking forward to the new one too. I really liked the Phat workouts when I was doing those workouts. I am not sure what is causing my shoulder and neck issues to be like this. Maybe the stability ball abs irritated it on Saturday. Or the upper body stretch? I was fine after I did the metabolic workouts on Friday. It was just step on Saturday that used no weights. But it is still hurting today and I did nothing yesterday. I have been very careful of the neck and shoulder area and trying to stay off the computer more since that seems to aggravate. I was hopeful when I got the harness and I remember that you did not think they worked well. She pretty much wants to drag me up the street. Me being 117 # and her 71# gives her a lot of advantage. Giving her a tug and command with the harness does not work. When I use the choke collar she pretty much stays beside me. I like the double leash that is on the harness though. I use it when I walk her. That is not right that those people voted and said that they would be there. I do not like it when people are not reliable.

Carolyn, I used to use one of the Low Impact Series Athletic Training premixes that was mainly step and lower body moves. That is a challenging workout. If I remember right the premix had some of the step portions repeated till my legs were burning.

Valerie, I don't get my heart rate up much doing Rock'm Sock'm either. I try stepping into the punches as much as I can instead of standing in one spot. I get a bit more footwork in that way. It is more boxing than kicking. Too bad that you didn't get to go skiing. I went back to look at my notes and Athletic Training is the one that uses the step. Cardio Super Sets has some step in it if someone does the bonus. Afterburn uses weights and gliding discs and has burpees. I bet you are excited about getting the full size step and the great deal.

Lorie, nice workouts. I used to get 600 plus a lot of the time. I don't know what happened, but it is rare now. Your rebounding had to be really intense . I bet SB did seem tame after Power Jump. Kelly Coffey's workout sounds great. I bet Gigi will be the same as Chester for the walks. I am glad that you are enjoying her so much.

Good morning,

Yesterday I did 2 of the new KCM's 15 minute workouts from her Body Design DVD. I like her new concept where you mix & match out of 6-15 minute workouts, included a warm up and cool down. I like the fact that when you finish the section you select, the DVD automatically goes back to the list and you can select the next one you want. :). I used 3# db's on the cardio sculpt, but I think KCM and crew used those old type hand weights with the sponge and handle? At least that's what it looked like...those are 1#.

Carolyn, great workout....yes, I remember that series being very challenging...and who says "low impact" can't be hard!

Valerie, I am the same...I don't seem to be able to get my heart rate up that much with kickbox workouts either. I guess I don't put enough into it? It feels like I do and then am disappointed to see the HR/calorie burn. That was a great deal on the step with those new type risers. Hope you are able to X-county ski today,

Lori, I was planning on doing the lower body 15 minute from KCM's today too.. what did you use for the cardio sculpt? Great calorie burn on those Jumping workouts! Yes, as I was watching the clip of Cardio Slam, I kept thinking..."all of these moves need to be modified"...glad there will be that version with the small inset box....Cathe's tech crew is always on the cutting edge! Meant to ask...did your son take Gigi to the dog park while you were gone? I bet Gigi will be just like Chester with the swimming....she is a LAB and they love water...LOL...:).

Diane Sue, glad Gertie has been doing better...what dog cookie recipe do you use? Yes, the harness gives the dog more power, especially one as heavy as Gertie! They can use all their body weight to pull. Kind of like pulling a sleigh..LOL...I think you may have hit on something with using the stability ball and your neck and shoulder....we don't realize it but there is a lot of tension in the neck and shoulder area to stay erect on the ball to do any exercise.

A workout, then Kylee and I am going to the airport for a "stress relief" visit...LOL...all those stressed out travelers!

Take care,

Good Morning,
Today I did Gym Style Back, Shoulders, and Biceps. I enjoy a good basic weight workout. I was planning to work out first thing today, but the electricity was out when Inwoke up. We finally have rain after 42 days so I can deal with the short power outages. It is fine now.

I did not order the KCM workouts, I want them now. Did someone say Enablers?

Deb, I saw your post about the Cardio Slam video clip and I totally agree. My first thought was that I would need to modify most of the moves. However, I can't wait to get the new series and try it out.

Hi to everyone.

Carolyn,

I did the other new KCM..."Meltdown" and I am still on the fence about it. It is definitely not up to Cathe's metabolic or PHAT workouts. Lots of new moves, some with BB, others with DB's but I think you could use DB's for the whole thing. I do like the Body Design one though that lets you string different 15 minute workouts together including the warm up and cool down.

Today I did Pedal Power, 60 minutes, 439 calories, 13.77 miles, 14.2mph (I guess that is average? I have never paid attention to it) The spin bike had me at 504 calories, Map My FItness 521, workout manager over 600 and Fit Bit 306. I used the calorie calculator which was in between and I feel most accurate based on heart rate average and net calories. I then did Barre Amped Advanced Active stretch. Washing comforters and blankets today and also Gertie. I looked at Cardio Slam as well and was a bit worried when I saw some of the moves and the weighted moves. Makes me worried about my shoulder issue. I told my husband I hope they did not mess something up during that biopsy and that is why it is taking so long to mend and the pain in the nexk, traps, and shoulder is dreadful. I read a medical report of 13 patients that had nerves severed or damaged during lymph nod biopsies and months later up to a year and a half they were having terrible problems. Some of them they were able to do some sort of graphing surgery and repair it so they were pretty much pain free.

Deb, I have some 1# and 2# handled spongy weights. The dog treats I make Gertie are very low in ingredients. They are crunchy and I do not refrigerate them.
1 1/4 cups white rice flour (Bobs Red Mill)
3Tablespoons coconut oil
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/3 cup water (at a suggestion on the recipe I used some beef bone broth from sprouts or half broth and half water) She says a type of broth if your dog does not have issues with it.
That is it. I blend it with a fork and if it is too dry I add a bit more liquid. Knead till smooth. Roll it out and cut it into cookies. I just make little inch to inch and a half squares. Place them on paper lined baking sheet and back 325. She says 15 to 20 minutes or till slightly browned on the bottom. I usually end up baking a bit longer than that time. Cool and store in airtight container. The first time I made these I used some Bob's Red Mill Gluten Free flour and she did okay with it but I was a bit put off by the sorghum and a couple of ingredients. It worried me that if she ate too many we would be back to the problem.
I was wondering how the Meltdown workout would be. I thought it might be pretty much like some of her other all cardio workouts? I do like that I get some different moves from her. Amy Bento Ross always had some different moves in her workouts so it was a nice change.

Carolyn, I do hate when the electricity goes out and it is my morning workout time. Last year it went out here for several hours. My husband got the gas fireplace lit and my grandson had stayed over. They were downstairs shivering. I used a Cathe that I had downloaded from Ripped with Hiit and my laptop and did a workout anyway. I told them I was nice and sweaty. This power outage was because of an ice storm.
