Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 11/24

Good morning all! I slept in until 7 :15 this morning, darn near a record for me.

DH and I are on a mission to clean out unused stuff from our house. obviously a large undertaking if you are like us. we have a big house. easier to store things than dispose of them. one of the first things was a home gym. had it for almost 20 years. was in great shape. could not even give it away. we tried the used sports equipment places multiple times but no. It was not huge but heavy, no way to sell it locally without having unknown people come to your house. not happening! so we took it apart and took most of it to metal recycling, and dumped the rest. sad to do that but we tried to give it away for years and this became the only alternative. smaller items you can put in your car and show to strangers at a public meeting place. now we have more room in our workout room. we used it quite a bit for the first few years but we both like free weights better. I need a structured workout routine to follow along, like Cathe. I used to use it with an exercise program on cable that's long gone. so it gathered dust for years.

my clothes closet and cookbook collection are next. I hardly use the books anymore.

Deb, you're done with the grand jury? how did it work for you? did you learn things?

Hello Ladies. Today is a rest day for me. Valerie, I also slept later than usual this morning. I woke up at 6:45 and I was shocked. That almost never happens! Cleaning out and disposing of accumulated “stuff” is a very big undertaking. I’ve been trying to do a little at a time.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

I'm still here Carolyn... yes, I'm doing a little at a time too. the bigger things (the gym) are the most difficult. it seemed terrible, wasteful to dump. I need the same attitude for the clothes in my closet, or DH's clothes. I want to get rid of a bunch of glassware I've never used and never will, but he is resisting. clothes at least someone might be able to use, fancy non dishwasher glasses? no way. we have tennis rackets from 1975 I threw away, but he took them out of the trash and brought them back in.

Valerie, that sounds like what my husband does when I try to throw out certain things. I wait until he’s at work to throw out things. None of it is valuable or his personal items. I won’t touch those without him.

carolyn, so far DH is getting out there and doing it! there are things he'd keep that I'd toss, and vv. I dragged out a whole stash of robes I've had forever that I seldom wear. will try on tomorrow and keep some or donate. we have some beautiful heavy winter coats given to us from a relative, but they are too big for him and its never that cold here anyway. they will go this time. I have a box of books set aside already and several small appliances. I don't use them, so maybe someone else can. also an old TV and a microwave. sometimes extra space is a curse...

Did Rev'ed up rumble and the ab section today, but not a very active day otherwise.

Good morning,

No workouts to report. I need to seriously get back to it.. Really enjoying the Grand Jury process. Only one more day left for me (tomorrow) I asked for Wednesday off, they said ok....and all are off Friday...so the session is done after this week.

Did anybody order any of the new workouts that Cathe.crew are working on? I ordered the PHA 3 one, since it doesn't have any step workouts...and I really like the PHA format. The pre-mixes look pretty good.

Valerie, nice that you slept for that long! what did you do differently that made that happen? I would love to sleep until at least 5 am...but it does not happen. I hear you on the cleaning out. Why do we save so much "stuff"?? Some days I just look at it and get so overwhelmed I have to turn away and ignore it. I have a weight bench that I want to get rid of....will not put it on any ad like Craig's list either I don't want anyone coming to the house. I just want it out of the basement. We will probably do what you did eventually and take it apart and take it to the scrap yard...or put it on the curb and have someone just garbage pick it. We had racke tball equipment....does anyone still play racket ball? LOL.

Carolyn, I don't dare throw away anything of John's without clearing it with him first. LOL...even community stuff like tennis rackets and the racket ball equipment....had to ask even though we had not played in 30+ years.

Hi to Diane Sue, Lori and Judy...

Take care,

Deb I didn't do anything different. just slept very well. wish I knew what was different. its so dark this time of year. that helps me sleep longer. light bothers me. I cover the clock face
Ive used craigs list for transportable items, where we can meet someone in a public place but the gym was way too big and complicated. I thought second hand sports would want it to resell but no.

I dont throw away any of DH's personal stuff either. our old TV still works as does the old micro, so will drop at goodwill I guess. its not that close, so we like to have a full load when we do the drive.

Today I did Hard Strikes (no Conditioning premix) plus Bonus Core 1. Time was 46 minutes with 306 calories burned. Average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 155.

Valerie, the Bonus Core that I did this morning might be the one that you were thinking of with similar moves to High Reps.

Deb, it’s wonderful that you enjoyed the grand jury process. That makes it easier to do your civic duty.

Diane Sue, are you okay this week?

Hello to Judy and Lori.

Carolyn thank you. I have Hard Strikes so will take a look. I like to do a variety of ab workouts, but prefer "bigger" moves to crunches. I like planks too. guess I'm weird.

we mt biked this morning 1 hr 50 min, probably abut 6 to 7 miles. went before it gets cold with maybe snow tomorrow. it was really wet with splashy mud everywhere. all clothes in the washer right now. mt biking is not for people afraid of a little dirt.
I have more respect for the judicial system after my jury duty too.

This morning I did Coffey Fit Raw Step 3, 44 minutes, 304 calories, met 8.3, heart rate average 145, max 170, 4,101 steps. I modified some of the weight work in between the step segments. I wore my 4# vest. That is all that I did because I thought that I had grandchildren coming over. They will probably be over tomorrow so I spent time getting the house cleaned and things ready for family Thanksgiving day.

I am having a hard time keeping up with things. I am going to have to come back tomorrow as I missed sleep last night and need to get to bed. I may have grandchildren here tomorrow. Cleaning all day and trying to get things done before Thursday.

This morning I did X Train Chest, Back, and Shoulders for 53 minutes and 255 calories burned. My average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 156.

Diane Sue, I hate the feeling of not being able to keep up with things. It’s easy to become overwhelmed this time of year. I’m a list maker, which helps me when I have a lot to do. I feel more in control when I can see my tasks. I hope you enjoy your grandchildren.

Hello to everyone and have a wonderful day.

Today I did Lite Metabolic Blast mix main+pyramid back+abs, 55 minutes, 288 calories, met 5.0, heart rate average 110, max 163 (Fit Bit must have went crazy) 1,520 steps. Grandchildren should be coming so I need to get myself put together.

Valerie, we did that before our move from our last home. It had loads of storage space, 3 levels of house and it was a really old house that had cabinets along both walls in my upstairs room by the back stairs that I used for my workout room. Under both sets of stairs was used. One a closet and another a guest bath. The garage was 3 car detached and had a full attic and loads of storage even with a floor shelter in it. We really downsized. We got rid of my dip station that was from used gym equipment, my Bowflex, my treadmill. We just kept the tread climber. I let my daughter sell some of the stuff and use the money for her mission trip. My other daughter took the treadmill. That is sad that no one would take it. Around here people put that stuff on the Next Door neighbor site to try to get rid of it. I had workouts and children's dvds along with lots of books that I sat in boxes by the trashcans and people came and took them. I figured that would happen. A lot of stuff is picked up out here on big trash day. I put out a wood wagon wheel bench that we had out here. I was getting tired of sanding and putting marine varnish on it every spring. WE had two and one rotted at the bottom from sitting in rain water. I was a bit surprised that someone picked up the one I just put out for big trash. I liked sitting out there and brushing the dog and watching the children though. I will have to find something else.

Carolyn nice work out today. I am still getting rid of things like clothing items a little at a time and I really need to clean out my hall cabinets. There is a lot of stuff in there that I think could go. I have my dinner plans mapped out and what day I am doing what. I just had it planned for a quick store trip and mainly getting the house ready and leaves cleaned up outside etc. on Monday and Tuesday. I will be doing some dinner stuff tomorrow and I may have two of my younger grandchildren over for awhile today. I got things pretty much done, so I can spend time with them.

Deb, I preordered all of the new workouts. I love step and am looking forward to them being low impact. That is good that you only have one more day for grand jury and have enjoyed the process. I would like to sleep in too, but it just does not happen. I stay up sometimes on weekends till late with my husband and I am still awake between 4 and 5 and I am really tired. It is funny how we hang on to so many things that we never use. That is why we cleared the attic and threw out almost everything. We decided moving it from home to home over the years and putting it back in the attic was a bit ridiculous. Offered things to our children and then did away with it. Our attic is completely empty.

This morning I did Low Impact Step for 37 minutes and 276 calories burned. My average heart rate was 134 and maximum heart rate was 155.

Waving hello to everyone. I am working on a pie for tomorrow so I need to get back to it. Have a great afternoon.

I did Hard Strikes, just the boxing part, and the ab workout. Carolyn, this is not the exact same workout as high reps but is probably closer than any other. I've done this one a lot before but not for a while. thanks for suggesting it. its easier to access because its in the bonus menu.

Happy turkey day everyone!

Wishing you all a very Happy Thanksgiving. I am in Florida this week visiting my inlaws. It has been tradition for the past several years. The weather has been very nice, just what we needed. Please know you have all been in my thoughts and hope all are well and keeping up with your workouts! :).
