Good morning,

Wow....November 22....where does the time go? I can't believe November is almost over. We had another wicked wind storm last night....gusts up to 60 mph...with some hail. This has been the windiest fall I can remember.

Valerie, that sounds like a good new place to ride. I really want to try that Dragon...can't wait for spring!

Lori, how is Chester doing? that sounds like a good workout...still no Live for me yet. That's great that you are able to fix things like that....John is our repair guy around here...I would have no idea what was even wrong with the toilet, let alone fix it. :). I guess that is not so smart...I would be Googling it to see what was broken.

Lynda, did you see the movie?

Hi to Josie & Judy,

More shopping today, getting our 2nd turkey, and some other stuff....I am sure you have the same "deals" where you are....you have to spend $25 to get the low price on the turkey...crazy...so we parcel out what we buy so we can get the sale price on the 2 birds.

Take care,

Not sure what we'll do today. lazing around and reading the paper, sitting in front of the fire. it's clear out today, probably the last "nice" day, but only 32 degrees. little cold for road riding so maybe a mt bike later today after it thaws out. possibly snow on Tuesday but sounds like just enough to coat things. wanted to do "something" today but no fast movement yet.

Deb that sounds like our Tuesday storm. windy here is pretty messy with all the trees. 60 mph makes quite a mess. evergreens shed a lot of debris.

Watched a movie last night called "Jobs". not the recent Fassbender one, but from a year or two ago. ashton kutcher. It wasn't bad. Jobs sure was a hard person to get along with, and that's being very charitable. lots of well known people in the movie whose names I can't come up with off hand. a lot of familiar faces. I was prepared for it to be a dud, can't remember putting it on the queue but we enjoyed it. we finally are getting the last episodes of Mad Men, one disk came yesterday.
Lynda, did you see the Hunger Games as planned? I'm thinking there were 4 in the series. we saw #3 in a theater, and it was wretched. I wanted to fall asleep,! I didn't remember the story line so somewhat my fault, but I didn't like it enough to go back and start over.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did DM (63:00).

Deb, I know what you mean. This month has just flown by. Did my shopping for Thanksgiving today--also extra stuff for houseguests. Nope, didn't go to the movie. I decided to do more packing and wait until a time when the theater won't be crowded with Katniss groupies.

Judy, those pictures of Shadow remind me of Max when he was a pup. If DH left his work gloves in a convenient place, Max would grab one of them and carry it around. So cute! I did see that the Midwest seems to be getting hit pretty hard with snow, snarling air traffic in and out of Chicago. It is really lovely here today--sunny and about 50 degrees.

Lori, that's great that Chester is adjusting to his collar. Your workouts sound fantastic. Is your DH still working out and keeping his weight down?

Hi to Valerie and Josie.

I guess I was messaging at the same time as Valerie. Did you read the books, Valerie? I'm not sure I would be so enthused about the films if I hadn't read and loved the books. The final book is very anti-war, and they broke it up into two films.

Good evening ladies!

Today I did Live High Energy Kickboxing and this was my only workout. I meant to follow up with core but completely forgot! Oh well there is always tomorrow.

Chester is doing well. He seems to be adjusting to the cone and is moving around well. It comes off a week from Wednesday so 10 more days of this! Wow sounds like a crazy night you had with the weather. The toilet was not difficult at all to fix. You would be surprised at how easy it was. The hard part was figuring out why the back tank was not filling with water.

Lynda...I did my shopping today too. Not that I needed much. My best friend is coming from NY and then spending the weekend. So needed to make sure I had plenty for the weekend too. No sun here today, Ovecast and cool. We plan on seeing the second Mockingjay on Black Friday. Looking forward to it.

Valerie...don't blame you for not riding when it was only 32 degrees. I remember when you went to see Mockingjay and not caring for it. Like Lynda I read the books and loved them. If I had not read the books then not sure how I would have felt about it. I read Steve Job's bio a few years back and know what you mean.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Yeah...off this week! So very happy about this!

Checking back in again... no I didn't read the books. I know sometimes that makes a stronger connection but I probably wouldn't now. I think I saw the first segment and then the third but series did not connect for me.

we did a yard project replacing part of a French drain that wasn't draining right. warmed up some but didn't feel like road riding would be pleasant, and DH found a shift problem on his mt bike that needs fixing first. I did enough up and down hill stuff. still might do a short workout before dinner.

I really never had a strong affection for computers. I was surprised Jobs was such a monumental a**hat. wow. looked at reviews for the newer movie and they aren't very positive at all.

Good morning,

It's Monday again....Thanksgiving week...Lots to do this week getting ready for Turkey Day! It's only 24 degrees here now, but they are predicting a high of 56 on Thanksgiving....very strange fall weather, that's for sure, but I'll take it if there is no snow. :)

Valerie,
lazing around and reading the paper, sitting in front of the fire
...this sounds wonderful to me! I am trying to finish watching A Place to Call Home....and got disk 4 without disk 3 so not able to watch it...that is one bad thing about requesting from the library...you may not get them in order, or at the same time. I guess it may be the same with getting the disks from Netflix.

edited to add: I don't think I like how this quote function works....I won't be using again...LOL

Lynda, that's great that both your sons and their woman friends will be there for Thanksgiving. How are your in-laws doing? Are they staying up north this winter.....sorry....but what are Katniss groupies?

Lori, Isn't it nice to have a holiday week off? Is your business extra busy this week or does it slow down for the holiday? Great that Chester is doing well. I am guessing that the weight loss issue is no longer a concern? You mentioned that he has stabilized?

Hi to Josie & Judy,

Take care,

Ha, Deb... only a little while in front of the fire! spent the afternoon running up /down hill while we fixed the French drain. we are on a significant slope, need to keep drainage working. the last spell of heavy rain DH noticed one drain was not working. since it's been dry for a few days, it was a good time to fix it. one section was plugged so we put in a new section. we hadn't done a good enough job the first time, and there was a section that was flat and it plugged up with mud where the water slowed down. we need to drain water off the concrete pad in front of our garage. we put in a new 50- foot section half way down and routed it more directly downhill. should have done a workout too but I didn't.
Watched an episode of Mad Men last night. my usual response... OK but I don't feel a connection to this series... except I remember L'eggs panty hose well. I'd like to watch Breaking Bad again short term, not spread over years. DH isn't interested though.

We were thinking of mt biking today at a different part of the tree farm. trails are open all year. not as hilly as the section that closes in winter. we tried it long ago when we first tried mt biking. I could only manage roads, not singletrack. this part didn't have many roads so we never pursued it. be fun to see if it looks as hard as I once thought it was. we are also thinking about trading in a bike for a better one. probably start with DH's . Hard to test ride a mt bike. riding it around a paved parking lot is not much of a test. these were $450 bikes 10 years ago and so much has changed and improved since. they're heavy and don't want to invest more money in keeping them running.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did all out low impact hiit with core 1 (49:22).

Deb, FIL and MIL are still here for Thanksgiving, but they will be flying down to Florida on December 5. DH's brother is going to drive their car down for them. Katniss is the heroine of the Hunger Games, Catching Fire, Mockingjay. Very cold here today as well, but no snow and another warm-up by mid week.

Lori, that sounds like a very restful vacation. I think I will wait a bit longer to see the final installment, but I am looking forward to seeing Jennifer Lawrence again. I think I have see all of her films and like her acting a lot.

Valerie, I never would have read the books because they are YA, but I had a student who wanted to write a paper on the contrast between the heroine of the Twilight books (Bella?) who is constantly being saved by her boyfriends and Katniss, who is very competent and has the role of savior. It was for a Women's Studies course and the way literature shapes the female imagination through its representations of women characters. I could never really get into MM. Don't know why.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Back from our ride, 2 1/2 hours. not as hard as the other area but lots of trial and error. don't like it as much and also some big sections of sand, which is very interesting... it stops you abruptly... DH decided to take his bike to the shop to get a new derailleur cable. Now I'm tired! but gotta do some grocery shopping. don't want to leave it all for Wed.

Lynda what's YA? I didn't watch the Twilight series. I like Jennifer Lawrence, but failed to get into story. I think MM is very hard to connect to, and the script just does not remind me of anything particular even though I lived thru the era. the attitudes, prejudices and women's roles I remember well. the insulting way women are treated.
How is your FIL doing medically?

Off to the store....

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did Live Hiit Fit Circuit minus the barre but added on Sb's lower body interval. Great combination.

Today was the great basement declutter! Wow did I get so much accomplished. I ended up throwing out 4 large trash bags of crap. Then organized, dusted and vacuumed. Place looks awesome. So glad I tackled this. Thought this would take me a couple of days but once I got into a rhythm it just moved along. Hmmmm now what to do the next couple of days?

Deb...it is actually a busy week for restaurants. Everyone is out and about and the Holiday Season offically starts on Friday. My DH's restaurant is open on Thanksgiving and you would be surprised at how busy he is. Chester seems to be staying at the weight he is. Not sure why he lost 13 lbs this winter. Perhaps he was getting in shape too after seeing me and my DH get into shape! Lol!

My DH has not been working out but he has maintained his weight give or take 5lbs. Right now, as I type this, he is snaking on carrots and humus. 6 months ago it would have been a bag of cheetos. I am very proud of him.

Valerie...I have put in a french drain and I would say that is a workout in itself! YA stands for Young Adult. The Hunger Games and Twilight Books are considered YA. I have read a few YA series and have always enjoyed them. Great job on today's ride. I can see how sand would stop you in your tracks.

Lynda...never stepped outside today but could feel how cold it was just letting the dogs out. I actually loved the Twilight books and movies. I read them twice and seen the movies a dozen times. Yeah I know I have issues! I love Jennifer Lawrence too! Have you seen the movie Serena? Not many have. Starred Jennifer Lawrence and Bradley Cooper. I think it went right to DVD. I read the book and was somewhat disappointed in the movie. I have not seen any of the MM episodes. One of these days I'll check it out. Very nice you'll be with your sons for Thanksgiving.

Anyone see the video clip of the low impact workout? I thought it looked great! Love the Blast to make it more intense.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning & Happy Tuesday,

Yesterday I did the Leg part of Cathe 4DS....wow that is a workout for legs, plus the warm up could be counted as a mini-workout on its own. DOMS big time today.

Countdown to Turkey Day! Both turkeys are not out of the freezer....the one we cook on Thursday is in the garage. It's like being in the refrigerator.

Valerie, great workout! I may be the only one here that really liked Mad Men....except for the last finale...I loved all the stuff about the times and was reminded of so much....even the commercials, and the stuff around their house.. remembered so much from that time. They did a great job in depicting how it was back then, especially with women working in offices etc. it was so spot on. Does getting that new part mean your DH is not going to look into a new bike?

Lynda, great that your in-laws will be able to go to Florida for the winter again...that must mean your FIL is doing much better?

Lori, I did see the clip and can't wait for these workouts to be shipped. You can come here and de-clutter my basement anytime. I have a good start on it, but still lots to do. I want to get rid of my weight bench, it takes up so much room but something will not let me do that...It as a squat rack, and something about that makes me want to keep it...LOL...not sure why... Has your DH done STS? He sounds like he is really trying to stay with it, hummus & carrots...way better than Cheetos! :).

Hi to Josie & Judy,

More HouseMax today...all the shopping is done except for the fresh vegetables for a veg platter and the rolls...

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

I picked up the peanuts last Saturday and have been busy baking and shopping for Thanksgiving. I'm expecting around 20 to 25 people.
Karina is coming over today and then I plan to take the kids to Venice beach for a long walk and lunch. There is a place that serves the best grill cheese sandwiches and tomato basil soup. We have to work for it though because it is at the end of the boardwalk so we will have to walk 2.5 miles and then back. My DS is finally getting Thursday and Friday off, so the gets to spend more time with the peanuts. I will have all 5 peanuts here this holiday :).

Garance, It sounds like you are going to have a full house too. Glad that your FIL is doing better.

Deb, I have to look into the 4DS leg workout. I have the DVD, but have never used it. My favorite workouts are PUB and PLB and MM and ME. I also loved Mad Men, but the last season and the finale was disappointing.

Valerie, it seems like winter has arrived in your area. It's going to be in the mid 60's today and that is could enough for us :).

Lori, enjoy your staycation!

Hi Judy!

Have a wonderful Thanksgiving every one!

Josie

thanks Lori for the YA definition. never noticed the term before. isn't it amazing how much "stuff" can accumulate? we've done most of our basement. it's nice and convenient for storage, but it lets you put off deciding ...you just stash things. our gym is in a separate room. we have a table saw and generate a lot of sawdust. we used double glass doors so we could close off the workout room and not make it too confined feeling. Good to hear chester's weight loss has leveled off... and that he's doing fine with the collar. that's great hummus and carrots! much better than Cheetos.

deb, cable replacement is a minor repair. it's the wire cable that moves the chain from one gear to the next. his is stretched out so it doesn't work well. we had a guy at the bike shop we liked and trusted, but he's "moved on". we will take longer to think about a bike upgrade. He KNEW bikes. we could tell him what we needed and he'd get right to it , including size. he was not replaced with anyone as knowledgeable, unfortunately. we have new tires and shocks, these bikes will be fine while we research it. no rush. yesterday we plowed thru lots of mud and horse poo so a new bike isn't needed for that. feels better using an old beater.

be sure about the weight bench.... I use one a lot. I like it for my knee or arm for back support. sit on it for c curls. even set weights on it to keep them off the floor so I don't trip. DH uses it for his upper body work. he keeps doing an STS disk.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ba, rear delts, and bis (52:28).

Deb, I will have to check out that leg workout on 4ds. I don't remember it at all. I never did get a weight bench. I thought my step with 5 risers on each side was enough for me. I haven't used the tower in ages and am wondering whether it should be dismantled and put away. I used it when I was doing STS and for Turbo Barre, but I sold STS and a chair would probably work just as well for TB. FIL is doing well, but still has issues with his eyesight. He can't drive and he has hit a few golf balls, but can't really play

Lori, were you a Twihard? I thought some of the stuff my student told me about was very creepy--e.g., Edward standing over Bella in the bedroom watching her sleep. Apparently if you were really a fan, you could buy a life size cut out of Edward and have it stand in your room at night. There was also a--hmm, how can I put this delicately--a plastic male member you could buy with sparkles that you could put in the refrigerator to get it vampire cold and do something unmentionable with it. I never went to any of the films or read any of the books, but I remember how popular they were. That's great about your DH and I bet he feels so much better. I haven't seen Selena but I will check it out. I thought that was the title of a film with J-Lo playing a Latina pop star who was killed.

Josie, there will be 10 of us, so compared to you and Deb, that's nothing. That sounds like a lovely walk for you and the peanuts.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Hi Everyone,

Sunday I did Pyramid Lower Body, yesterday I did Body Beast Build Shoulders and a segment from Ab Hits. This morning I did a 1 hour Spinerval then I road another hour while watching an episode of Downton Abbey. I'm going to take a break and do a few days of active rest over the holiday. I might do some yoga and core workouts but no heavy lifting or hard cardio workouts. After seeing some of the clips, I can't wait for ICE to get here. I hope it ships soon. There are also two new Spinervals out that I just ordered:

https://www.spinervals.com/products/item349.cfm

Between ICE, the new KCMs and now Spinervals, I should be set with workouts for quite a while.

Deb-it's been the windiest fall around here too. It's been in the 20's and 30's but is supposed to be in the 50's tomorrow and Thursday. I agree that November is going by so fast!

Valerie-great job on the long ride!
I'll have to check out the "Jobs" movie. It sounds interesting. I've read that he was a very difficult and abrasive person to work with. I've always loved computers. I guess maybe it's been kind of a love-hate relationship, I love them when they do what I want but not so much when they don't.

Lynda- The paper that your student wanted to write sounds interesting. I've read descriptions of the movies and didn't think I would like them. Maybe I'll try reading one of the books. What's a Twihard?

Josie-I love PUB,PLB,MM and ME too. I just started doing the Pyramid workouts and they are quickly becoming favorites of mine.
I hope you have a wonderful time with the peanuts! :)

Lori-great job with the basement declutter! You are inspiring me to do some more decluttering here this week.

I think there were two movies, Selena and Serena. Serena was the J.Lo one , the Mexican singer who ends up getting killed..... I think. I can get those two names mixed up in a heartbeat.
we did our 26.5 mile ride today. trail was all cleaned up but no one knows it apparently, because it was deserted. a lot of trees came down last week. all the sawed logs & branches were on the side did it in record time. easier when you're not dodging dogs, kids, and baby strollers. it was about 45 degrees. but somewhat sunny so pleasant. not warm, but not that cold. 40-45. going to hike somewhere tomorrow. this is how I get side tracked from my upper body workouts. after a hike or ride, I've had enough. no way will I do more.

Judy if you see Jobs, it starts out a little shaky but it gets better quickly. ashton kutcher has this strange walk and posture. I've never seen the real steve jobs walking around on news clips or anything, I wonder if he walked like this? I love the end result products he developed, but it's unpleasant to realize he was a major jerk.

Happy Thanksgiving Eve!

Of course when you need the garage as an extra refrigerator, the weather decides to stay spring like. It's supposed to be around 52 degrees today....not helping my cold storage needs.

Josie, wow, you really make those peanuts work for their lunch! :). that's great that you will have all of them there for the holiday. 4DS Kickbox/Legs has a great premix that changes it so you do a great 10 minute warmup, then the leg workout...if you do not want to do the Kickbox portion.

Valerie, You rode the equivalent of a marathon yesterday! We have been doing what you described for 30 years...stashing stuff in the basement...now it's time to toss all that junk. Our basement is all chopped up into small rooms, so I have been trying to do one room at a time. I agree on the weight bench....I am reluctant to toss it, wish it was easy to take apart and store.

Lynda, I also use my step with 5 risers as a weight bench, that is part of my problem with space....I like the step a lot, easy to take down and store upright against a wall...not like the bench. Have not used the Tower for anything much either...stores my BB set at 35 pounds. Besides golf, do your in-laws have other activities to keep them busy in Florida for the winter? I finished the first season of A Place to Call Home...I really liked it a lot, just requested the first disk of season 2 from the library.

Judy, great workouts! I am anxious for the new KCM and ICE too....I am surprised we have not heard anything on the new KCM's....no one has even posted on her forum for a month....not like her at all. Edit: just checked over at the KCM forum...the DVD's are at the replicator...she says she hopes to ship right after Thanksgiving.

Cooking the smaller bird today, and squash, etc etc....

Take care,

Good morning ladies!!!

Yesterday ended up being a rest day. My DH was off so we went and had our snow tires put on. Then just hung out together. We watched Mockingjay 1 to catch up. My DH fell asleep at the movies when we saw it so before we went he wanted to rewatch it. He fell asleep again. :). Today I am planning to do a few Leah Sarago Barre workouts. I downloaded a few of her workouts when I first started barre but was really intimidated. Now I know I've got these!

Lynda...first let me say your post almost made me pee my pants!! At our age I do not say that lightly either!! Omg so funny...well I guess after reading that I am not the fan I thought I was!! Hilarious!! The J-lo movie is definetly Serena. Came out in 2014 and it is based in depression error North Carolina. Cooper owns a Timber company and things get weird when he marries Serena. If I had not read the book I think I would have liked the movie better. Was very disappointed. Loved the book not so much the movie.

Deb...I am very happy I gave my bench to my DS. I ended up giving him my squat rack too. I was so excited when I bought them on craigs list a few years back. After I hurt my shoulders a few times since I have changed my routines to more metabolic, hiit and barre with a heavy weight workout thrown in every now and then. Seems to be working for me. I love the extra space it has allowed in my workout area. Like Lynda I have my step bench with plenty of rises. Go figure about the temp! Usually it is a lot colder.

Valerie...great ride yesterday! Our usable basement is L shaped due to the utility room and it is one large room. Competely finished with a really nice fire place. Each area is now designated to one spot...workout room, DS bedroom, my closet. It sounds weird but it works. So much crap has built up through the years and I trashed it all. Was very liberating! My DS is hardly ever sleeping here so he was fine that I took over his space. It used to be his room downstairs and only his room. :)

Josie...that is so nice your DS will be there and all 5 peanuts! So happy for you. I love grilled cheese and tomato soup. Especially tomato basil! Yum. I bet the walk was well worth it. You and Deb with the amount of people you are having over. Don't know who you do it! But I am sure you would not have it anyother way!

Judy...I don't blame you for taking a break. I am exhausted reading your posts! :) I am loving the ICE clips and think this series will be awesome. So happy the declutter is behind me. I have been procrastining for such a long time. Now it is done and wish I would have done it sooner.

Have a great day all!

We had a interesting day. went for a hike and did a little mileage, about 90 minutes. not a major event. driving back we saw two ruffed grouses. right by side of the road. got to look at them in detail. then off they flew. then we went by a pond we've looked at for years and there were otters!. two of them, one with a big fish in his mouth. we watched for a few minutes, they were close. there was a fish ladder from the pond to the lake. didn't see any fish, but we'd stopped at this spot before thinking it had potential. Yes! then to pick up dh's repaired bike. he wanted to look at a new bike so we both did. tried out multiple ones. he found one right away. I didn't. so he traded in his old bike that was just repaired and we brought a new one home. Not crazy expensive one, a hardtail Trek. you would not believe how expensive the new ones with the fancy suspension are, but we don't ( won't) do that kind of riding. my old bike paying more attention to the fit. us short people are always an afterthought.
so ended up being a good unexpected day. tomorrow will be a crash cooking day. definitely way behind. and I'm only having 2 guests!. you make me feel totally inadequate!! don't know how to cook for 20.
I use the bench enough... I'd never give it up. not every day but it's so useful when I need a support. the weight rack is not as important but the bench.... I use like a chair. it's the basement, no other thing to sit on or kneel on. Lots of stuff I'd get rid of before that.

Happy Thanksgiving!

Still lots on "the list" but getting there. People arrive around 2:00...dinner at 3:00....

Lori, I don't think your DH is really into that movie! LOL. Never heard of Leah Sarago...it sounds like her workouts are harder than SB's? Will put Serena on my reading list for future...not the movie though. :) I think I may have to think about taking that weight bench apart and storing it somewhere....but right now it holds my protein powder containers, the big box of dog bones etc etc....I am loving the ICE clips too, but I have to say, Amanda seems more like a "reluctant" modifier....at least from the short clips we've seen...a few low impact moves but still jumping etc. JMO.......

Valerie, that sounds like a great ride and the wildlife cooperated! Otters...wow! ..now your post is making me want to keep that bench! :)....oh well...

Hi to Josie, Judy & Lynda,

Have a great day! Take care,
