Good morning,

Just getting us started. I hope to do one of the premixes from Flex Train this morning. I have to get back to doing something besides eating!

Will check back a little later.

Lori-your cats are so pretty! I love their coloring! Funny about the name :)
When I was 7 or so my parents got a kitten, female, and I named her Joe (yes, with an e). She lived to be 21. Even though it was so long ago, I still think of her often. Here's my blast from the past photo, I was 28 and she was 21:

Good morning all,

I did a premix from FlexTrain this morning, and I can tell I am really out of shape. I even did the shortest one, without disks, band etc.

We had a toilet problem and the plumber just left. One came yesterday and said there was nothing wrong, the toilet flushed ok when he was here. Then of course between then and this morning it started up again, so I called back and they send a different ( way better!) guy who found a tube of hand cream in the toilet. Huh? I think it must have been on the back of the toilet and it fell in somehow, got flushed. Unreal.

Lori, love the kittie pic! So cute. I guess that folklore about female cats being standoffish is all wrong! I don't know how you do all those workouts at the same time...it's great that you can do that.

Judy, that is a great picture of you and "Joe"! Will you be having an early Thanksgiving dinner with BIL etc?

Josie, when will that 35 mile ride be? as for the vet, all looked good, but we won't get the test results for Keegan until tomorrow. I hope he doesn't have any bladder issues. I worry about that more than the blood work.

Well, I just made my spelt bread and eggs for the week. Still have more "stuff" to do around here. My cousin wants me to take a ride to Sephora with her and then go see her father at his new assisted living place. She had to move him into a more secure place since he started walking out in the middle of the night..."sundowners syndrome" or something like that.

Will check back later, take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK (55 min.).

Love all the pretty kitty pictures. At one time we had two barn cats, brother and sister, I named Fanny and Alexander (I wrote a long article on Bergman's film). Fanny was a great hunter but we lost her to some predator after a couple years. Alexander lived to be 21 like Joe, and he was a weeper. Whenever you petted him, and that was as often as he could snag us, he just started tearing. My vet friend said that there is a percentage of cats who do this, but we worried about it until she told us.

Very nice birthday! The wine and cheese tasting took quite awhile, and by the end of it, I was not all that hungry, so I only had some mussels for dinner and a small salad. We are going out to Mezze's again tonight because they are starting their Comfort Sunday dinners, with 2 courses for $22 and 3 for $29. I will only get the first two and skip dessert.

I also went to see All Is Lost with Robert Redford. Talk about everything going wrong! I need to see more Doc Martin. The last three films I have seen were all harrowing: Gravity, Captain Phillips, and now All Is Lost. Looks like more of the same with the slave film next, followed by Catching Fire. I guess it's Oscar and holiday season.

Lori, it was beautiful here yesterday as well. Today gloomy, drizzly, but it's still warm.

Deb, hope your doggies get great lab results and no bladder infections.

Enjoy the rest of the weekend everyone!

BIL and SIL left this morning so for the last few hours I feel like I'm off the "treadmill" of the last couple weeks. I didn't exercise for 3 days now, though plenty of walking, and a whole lot of exercise before so it feels OK.
all these great cat pictures! I think cats are individuals and some are friendly and bond and others just don't. not your fault or theirs, just personality differences. I would not declaw a cat. I will take a little carpet scratching. if they get outside they can't climb anything to protect themselves. a scratching post helps a lot.
we had a female who was not real friendly, but she was a mature adult when she showed up at our house so I have no idea what her life was like before. She was a nice kitty but never a cuddler. our current little guy is very affectionate but I got him when he was approx 1 yr old and he has a more dependent personality.
I don't know how to post a pics. not sure what kind of photo program is on this computer. I have been very lax about learning it.

Deb, hope your doggie is OK. yes, refrigerating the sample should preserve it well enough. too funny... not eating because the dogs will notice and complain!

sister is still in hospital. they didn't release her so she could have more physical therapy since they can't release her to a rehab facility because of no insurance. my brother has cleaned her entire filthy house and yard. it must have been an awful, difficult, nasty job. hopefully she will maintain it better after she returns home but no guarantees. I don't understand how she could have allowed it to reach the point it did.

Hi Ladies,

My ride went well:). My left leg was a bit tired because of the broken foot.
We rode 35 miles.

I will be back later.

Josie

Good evening ladies!

Went to brunch with DH and of course I ate tons. It was kind of comical actually. My DH is following a somewhat atkins diet and really limits his carbs. He had one plate of protien and I came back from the buffet with two overloaded plates. The waiter got a chuckle when he visited our table.

Was rainy and cold while we went to eat but rain stopped afterwards so I was able to get Chester's walk in then did a timesaver workout from Peddle Power. I was soaked after my ride.

Deb...I have been playing with the workout blender and love creating workouts. The one I just did really was not that much longer than the original workout. Just changes things up a bit.

Lynda and Josie..wow both of you having kitties that reached 21 years. That is wonderful!

Valerie...so sad with your SIL. I agree it must have been very hard on your brother to clean like he did.

Lynda...i still have not seen 12 years a slave and I am looking forward to catching fire also!

Have a great night ladies!

Good morning!

Horrible wind storm last night, everything in the yard has blown all over. I was planning to get up around 4:00 to do a workout, the dogs were up and pacing at 3:30 so I got up then and did a Cardio Coach on the treadmill. It felt good, but at 3:00 pm I will be dragging I'm sure.

Garance, Your BD dinner sounds great! Doc Martin Season 6 is up for presale on Amazon. I don't know how to figure out when they will do the streaming video...need to ask Lori how you can find that out.

Lori? any idea how to find out if/when there will be something new streaming on Amazon? Did your DH have one plate of protein, and then 2 of carbs? I have to hand it to him, a breakfast buffet has to be the toughest meal when doing a low carb diet! I thought you did all those workouts in their entirety! whew, thanks for clarifying. LOL..I really felt like a wimp!

Valerie, I hope your sister is ok to be released and to stay in her own house. Keep us posted, I will be thinking of her and your poor brother. it is good that he is helpful and it sounds like the cleaning was not a fun job.

Josie, be careful with that foot!

Work, then class tonight, if I can stay awake!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did GG, the premix with the chair instead of the ball (55:40).

Deb, I don't think season 6 of Doc Martin will be streaming until after it's been on PBS, and that won't be until 2014. I decided to buy season 6 because I don't want to wait. We had a lot of rain overnight as well, but nothing like what happened in Illinois. Comfort Sunday dinner was really excellent. The main course was from DH's pork shoulder and roasted with spices in banana leaves and served with a mole sauce. Sooo tender and good. DH also decided to try the dessert, and I had a little bit of it. A new pastry and dessert chef who seems a lot better than the last one.

Lori, there's an article in Vogue (December) about the Fast Diet, which apparently is very effective. The Atkins is a bit like South Beach, isn't it? I'm looking forward to Catching Fire and the second Hobbit film--The Desolation of Smaug--where they finally get to the dragon's lair. The voice of the dragon is that English actor who was Khan in the second Start Trek film. I think it's something like Cumberbitch. He is also Sherlock Holmes on PBS.

Valerie, that sounds awful about your sister. Who will pay for the medical bills? Is she finally getting disability or Medicaid?

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was T25 cardio. Tonight is Xtrain burn sets..I think, ch,bk,sh.

HA HA too funny Deb! I would be unable to move if I did both workouts back to back! Some people do but not me! My DH had just one plate of protein only then went back for a little more. I on the other hand loaded my 2 plates up with EVERYTHING and went back for more :) and loved every bite. It was really comical because I am 5'2 small built (thanks to cathe!!!!) and my husband is 6'1" and broad. It just looked wrong to the waiter. ha ha.

Deb...it has been REALLY windy here today. So sad about all the storms in the Midwest.

Josie...great job on the ride. 35 miles is awesome. No surprise the foot would be tired. But wow you did it!

Lynda...I will look up the Fast Diet. My DH always does well on Aktins. His problem is he is either on a diet or off. There is no maintaining for him. I have been working on him to change this behavior as it is not healthy at all. Hoping this time it will stick. Other than my brunch :)o) I usually do eat very well. I can't wait for Catching Fire, but mostly the Desolation of Smaug. I think I am going to quickly reread Catching Fire before I see it.

Valerie...so sad about your sister. Hoping she comes home soon. I would worry about not exercising. Like you said all the walking around you have been doing certainly counts for something.

Hi to Judy!

Hi Everyone,

Today I did a long indoor ride, 42 miles in about 2.5 hours.

Deb-I think the plan is to have an early Thanksgiving dinner, but not sure on the details yet. We had some bad storms last night and wind today. So sad about the tornados :(

Lynda-Glad you had a good birthday!

Valerie-I agree about some cats not bonding. So far, we've been very lucky to have cats that bonded well with us. Tiger & Misty did and so far it looks like our relationship with Echo & Chino is going to be similar. My childhood cat, Joe, wasn't really the bonding type. I loved her dearly but she was somewhat detached from us and just kept to herself. She wasn't declawed either, I remember my father saying that she needed to be able to protect herself if she ever got out.

Josie-Great job on the ride!

Lori-after having a childhood cat that lived to 21, I always thought Misty would make it to at least 16 or 17. 21 was unusual. My parents always kept her inside. They didn't do anything else special for her. She was fed grocery store cat food, nothing special. I don't remember her ever being sick. She only went to the vet for routine shots.

Judy

Good morning,

Late class last night, didn't get out until almost 10:00 so by the time we got home etc, it was pretty late for me. No workout this morning. Keegan's tests all came back with all good results. We are not sure why he keeps drinking so much though.

Garance, you talked me into it...I pre-ordered season 6 from Amazon! I could not wait that long for my DM fix ! :) That dinner sounds delicious!

Lori, with the workouts you do, you deserve a little enjoyment of food once in a while!

Lori & Garance:I looked up the FAST diet, I have seen it before. I bet it does work, if you still eat fairly well on the 5 other days that you don't fast. I would rather try Intermittent Fasting, which still sounds hard, but more doable maybe? Why Is Intermittent Fasting Highly Recommended? you don't need to watch the video, the article says the same thing. I like Dr Mercola! He is a little bit extreme on some of his views, but a lot of what he says makes sense.

Judy, isn't it strange how our pets when we were younger were fed cheap grocery store food, table scraps, and were hardly ever sick? It makes you wonder what has changed. I think it's all the garbage they put in food, stuff made in China etc. Nice that Echo & Chino are getting along so well!

Hi to Valerie & Josie,

Windy and cold here too....work, home to relax!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did PRS 2 (52:28). I have this one down pat, except for combo 6, which I modify with straddle ups and downs and swims. This is a very good cardio workout. I'm pretty sweaty by the end.

Deb, the Vogue article too recommends intermittent fasting. What I think is interesting is that this type of diet specifically seems to impact fat stores. Yep, there was no way I was going to wait til next summer for my Doc Martin. We will get season 6 in December and early in the month. Glad to hear all is well with the pupsters. We feed Max a kibble from Tractor Supply, and he gets occasional scraps, and always a marrow bone to chew on in the truck on long trips with DH. I'm mother Treatsa so I give him a few on the sly when he has done something very good--e.g., catching a Frisbee in mid-air.

Lori, does your husband yo-yo diet because his weight fluctuates? You are right that this is not healthy.

Judy, those tornadoes in Illinois were horrendous. Did you have any of those high winds where you were?

Hi to Josie and Valerie!

things are somewhat back to normal now. I exercised yesterday, 35 treadmill and core 1, then yoga this am. 3 days off is not that big of a break. running felt fine. haven't done weights in a bit, maybe today later.

My sister was discharged yesterday. that's 2 weeks. I paid part of her overdue cable TV bill so she's starting back with a zero balance. her phone and TV were cut off so when she got home, it was a dead zone. she wasn't happy with the cleaning our brother did. he tried to leave things in the same places but in boxes instead of piles on the floor... mostly so he could vacuum and clean more easily. it sounds like a disaster area. I don't know how this will work out. she sounds depressed to me.
Our planned thanksgiving guests are sick. he is prone to bad sinus infections that last a long time so not sure if this will work this year. he had sinus surgery a couple years ago to fix the problem, but seems to be slipping back into the pattern of recurrent infections. they are a lot of fun so I hope he's well enough to come.

I've never known exactly how old any of our cats were. shelter cats, unless they're kittens, it's just an educated guess. previous guy we adopted was 11, and we had him until he was in the 16-17 area. he had asthma, and the prednisone to keep it in check caused diabetes, and it was not long before he had an unfixable problem. he was such a cool cat! newer little guy is very sweet but not smart like his predecessor.

I don't do well on Atkins plans. I feel sick and don't lose anything except water, which returns immediately. I personally think fasting is very difficult if you are active and exercise much. WW is the best program I've found, and I can lose if I stick with it.

Good evening ladies,

This morning was T25 speed 2.0 and tonight was Lower Body Blast. I think I love this workout more and more everytime I do it.

Lynda...those tornadoes were horrendous. So sad. Amazing so few were killed. In watching the news today they spoke with this elderly man who rode out the storm while sitting in his wheelchair in his living room the entire time while his house was completely demolished and yet he lived to tell. My DH is reading about the FastDiet as I type this. Yes he yo yo's with his weight. He loses as quickly as he gains usually 20 to 30lbs up down, up down. It is so unhealthy. I think he is getting it though.

Valerie...glad your sister came home. I can see why she would be upset about the house. I would have done the same thing as your brother though and cleaned like he did. Hoping your thanksgiving works out with your guests.

I am hoping to take next week. This year we are going to have dinner at my son's girlfriends parent's home. Should be fun.

Judy...great job on the ride. I can't imagine doing 42 miles indoor. Good for you. Loved the picture of you and your cat.

Deb...Getting home at 10 on a week night throws me off for a couple of days. This is when I feel old. Can't blame you for not working out.

Hi Josie!

Good morning,

I had some computer issue this morning, ( not the computer) my internet connection was lost for some reason. Not sure how that happens, I turned it off at 9:00 pm last night, it was working fine, turn it on this morning and no connection to the modem. At least I know how to reset the modem now.

Garance, good job on the step routine! I have both of the step workouts, the kickbox one and the Greatest Hits up for sale on Ebay. I never opened any of them. I ordered KCM's new one "Shape Up" another HIIT one that she does alone. I really like the one she did recently a lot ( Trim Down).

Valerie, I hope your sister is ok and can stay in her house etc.

Lori, I am off next week too...So sad about the man in the wheelchair. Amazing that he was ok.

Agility class tonight another late one ( late for me anyway!)...

Take care,

Good Morning Everyone,

Yesterday I did 20 minutes of Core Max, then Muscle Max. It's time for me to switch things up with other full body workouts and/or STS. I've gotten Muscle Max memorized and am probably at the point where I'm not getting as much benefit from it.

DH and SIL are having some issues with FIL. I've kind of been out of the loop with all that was going on with the cats last month:( SIL is pushing hard to get FIL out of his house and into an apartment close to us. He is never going to go for that. Based on how fast his memory loss is progressing, I have to say I think he will not be able to live anywhere independently too much longer. I think he is losing his mind. I am not looking forward to the upcoming family get together.

Deb-I've used intermittent fasting and I think it does have a lot of benefits. I could never do an extended fast, but I've been able to do 16-18 hour fasts. I would stop eating at say 6 pm, and then not eat again until after 10 am the next day. I never did it to lose weight, but more for the health benefits. It does help with keeping weight under control though. I would never do this on a day when I was doing a 2 or 3 hour bike ride or long workout though. Fasting and hard training are a bad combination.
I've also thought the same thing about pet foods. Something changed in the past 30 years or so and now so many pets are getting sick younger and requiring so much more vet care. You are probably right about the quality of food deteriorating.

Lynda-we had a tornado watch here Sunday night and did have very high winds.
There are still people in the metro Detroit area without power from the storms. We were very lucky to keep power the entire time. I have a friend that lives in Washington, IL and she is aso very lucky that her home wasn't damaged in the tornado.

Valerie-it's so nice of you and your brother to help your sister, I hope things work out well for her.
I agree about Atkins. It's a little too low carb for me. I think moderate carb is better.

Lori-When I was younger I would regularly not get home until 10 or 11 at night and had no problems. Now it would really throw me off too. I like to get home by 5 or 6.

Hi to Josie,

Judy

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did XTrain ch, ba, sh (51:16).

Deb, it sounds like KCM is your instructor rather than Cathe. I like her workouts, too, but really hate her music. She has a lot of rap junk that grates on me. I guess what I like about doing step is that it has mind benefits as well. You have to remember the steps as opposed to doing something simple or jumping around. The same reason I really, really liked Pure Spice--very dancy. I hope Christi Taylor does another one like that.

Judy, it sounds like Thanksgiving may be difficult if your SIL insists on crossing swords with your DH. If your FIL is totally losing his memory, it would probably make more sense to move him into assisted living rather than an apartment, even if it's close to you. Tornadoes are so strange in their hit-or-totally-miss path.

Lori, maybe the Fast Diet would work for your DH because apparently it makes you more mindful of your eating, and it sounds like your DH swings from dieting into a pattern of overeating. There's so much deprivation on Atkins and South Beach that it's probably easier to just head back into bad habits than to be mindful of your appetite.

Valerie, it sounds like your brother is the victim of that old saying, "No good deed goes unpunished."

Hi to Josie!

Lynda-I agree. I think SIL is still somewhat in denial. DH was in denial, but the past few months of watching his father deteriorate has brought him out of it. SIL doesn't spend enough time with him to see how bad it really is. Last week FIL's sink backed up because he forgot what the garbage disposal was and how to use it. DH had to explain it to him and show him how to turn it on. He has been in that house, with a garbage disposal for over 25 years.:(

It is going to be very unpleasant if DH/SIL/FIL start fighting. I may stay home, assuming the dinner isn't here:eek: and let them try to work things out on their own. I just want to avoid the drama, and not get asked to take sides.

Ha.... totally right Lynda! he cleaned her pigsty of a house... to the level where when visiting nurses and other professionals visit, they won't faint from the mess and odor. (condition verified by cousin). not "model home" clean but reasonable. she didn't notice except that some things weren't where she thought she left them. good grief, her pets ( big dog, 2 cats) are relieving themselves on the carpet. Now, I have pets and I know accidents happen, but this was worse. He fixed dozens of things for her... plugged sink... lights that didn't work, broken locks, routine stuff that needs fixing occasionally. plus scrubbing and vacuuming. he witnessed a major seizure, took charge, called 911, stayed with her, and after she refused hospitalization, he was back the next morning while I was on the phone trying to arrange appointments for her to be seen by her previous neurologist, who she trusted. he stayed with her thru the appt, took her to the hospital ER, stayed til 7 pm for her to be admitted. a LOT of phone calls but he transported her. I would not relive that morning....

Anyway, I don't know how long she will live by herself. the next few months will show. she seems OK when you talk to her, but living situation... far from OK.

Judy, have you looked into Adult family homes? they have a care giver on site and house several adults in a "home" situation. they vary all over the map for quality of care and cost, but are another possible option. assisted living is expensive and not always enough assistance for everyone. my aunt is in a special memory care facility after she did poorly ion plain old assisted living.

Took a break and went snowshoeing today. planned on hiking but a lot of snow fell the last couple days so we drove up to a closed ski area and snowshoed for 3 hours. really lovely but busy.
