Cathlete
good morning.

did perfect pump upper yesterday and part of the ab workout. I do not like ab at all and will do something else. I remember why I hadn't done PP in a while. I misplaced my worksheet where I recorded weights. it moves so fast there is little time to debate what weight to grab and cathe goes so heavy on this one. a paper record helps. will look around for it. must have misfiled it. I didnt go over 25 for anything. a few things I think I did 30 before.

Sorry for going MIA. Friday morning I did Express Your Step. I like that one as she starts right off with combos. There's one place where it REALLY feels like you should do a figure eight and she does ball changes. Every time it comes to it I have to remind myself to not do a figure eight and then when she puts all the combos together SHE messes up and does a figure eight and has to start over. :D

Late Friday afternoon our old cat (at least 15) took a really bad turn. I found him at the bottom of the basement steps and he'd lost control of pretty much every body function, and was struggling to breathe. Worst thing I've ever had to watch one of my cats go through. Was very thankful the vets were still open so I could get him in to be euthanized. I'm pretty sure he'd gone blind, no idea if he could hear. The vet couldn't even find a pulse in his back leg and had to use a front instead. He was the last of the four cats that migrated from the neighbors to our house when they put in their underground dog fence and the dogs could go everywhere in the yard. After a few years, he would come in the house and in cold weather spent a lot of time inside, but wouldn't use a litter box. I know he could because a few years back during the polar vortex he stayed in for four days and used it. He was also the cat that slept between me and the edge of the bed every night, and spent a lot of my meals on my lap.

Didn't sleep well Friday night, so ended up not working out yesterday. Last night I slept really well for 5 hours then woke up. Played on my iPad for a couple hours and fell back asleep till 8. I put together an XTrain Legs workout that skips the standing weighted leg work, so it's disks, ball, and floor. Used my cloth band for most of the floor work, but not the clams.

Valerie great job with the spin workout, Perfect Pump and the ab work! Cathe goes crazy heavy on PP.

Diane Sue, glad you slept better and I sure hope that the MRI results help in figuring out what can be done about your issues. Great job with the step workouts!

Carolyn great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and the stretch!

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, Morning Energy practice. That was 18 minutes and and 44 calories burned. Sometimes the calorie burn is higher with this practice and today was one of those times. I’m not sure why that happens unless I was more mindful and focused with my movements. I could feel that I was working a little harder.

Valerie, great job with Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Abs. I don’t like the bonus Abs either and have only done them a couple of times. I print the pages from the User Guide to use as a workout sheet. I can see what weight Cathe is using and decide if I want to try it. I don’t use 30# for anything in that workout.

Cathy, nice job with Live Express Your Step. That’s funny that Cathe confuses herself with the choreography. I’m sorry about your cat.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy.

raining and windy. lots of rivers flooding. very messy out there.

Cathy lucky you could got into a vet on such short notice when its clear what needs to happen. we don't have a pet right now always hard to lose a little guy like that. so you are fortunate you were there and could make the best outcome. we keep saying we will get another kitty but then we don't do it.

Carolyn I had printed workout pages from either the Mgr or a compiled list. I know I have it printed..... it was the only workout from that series that I printed. no reason to print yoga things. I used 20's and 25's tho not for all cathe used them for.

Ive been having issues with a bursitis. saw a orthopedic person and got a referral to PT so going tomorrow to ( I hope) begin to relieve the hip discomfort I keep having. NSAIDS diminish it to nothing but when I stop the meds, it comes back. only one side.

ETA I did a spin yesterday, the whole Ride spin. did only premixes before. this one also has a count down timer. maybe I'll reach a point where I don't want the timer but not yet. without a timer I get too cautious so timer lets me ride harder. I can see l how long I have to go and can pace accordingly. I felt strong on this yesterday. also did 50 knee push ups and sets of curls with a band.

windy day with rain. all is soaked/flooding. writing this early because we expect power outs today.

This morning I did Step Sync, combos 1 and 2. That was 33 minutes and 229 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 145.

Valerie, it’s great that you did the entire Ride spin. You have obviously worked through your hesitation with the full spin workouts. I’m sorry that you are having problems with bursitis. The PT should help some.

Hello to Judy, Diane Sue, and Cathy.

Another night of broken sleep. It's getting really old. Since I got a late start and yesterday's workout has had my lower body talking to me all day, I opted to do Stretch Max with the band. Apparently, I should do that version of XTrain Legs more often because it nailed me, especially hamstrings, and inner thighs.

Carolyn great job with the yoga and Step Sync!

Valerie that's great that you did the entire spin workout! I agree for some things it is just so helpful to know time left, so you can gauge how hard you can push. If you did get a kitty would it travel with you? The very first cat I had when I moved away from home, always went with me to my parents from the time I got her and she traveled really well. I never tried it again with any others. When animals only go to the vet, they don't associate riding with being a plus. I really hope your PT appointment goes well and they are able to help you. Nick had really good luck with PT on campus last year for his hip issues.

Today I did Walk Strong 3 Cardio Step Jam, 32 minutes, 197 calories, heart rate 145/166, 3,184. Not bad for not too much arm movement. I then did Walk Strong 3 deep stretch, 31 minutes, 44 calories, heart rate 76/94. Total time 63 minutes, 241 calories. I also did some foam rolling. My legs were getting stiff and I needed some flexibility work this morning. Waiting to hear the results of my mri still. Hope they let me know soon. I checked my online results page and not yet. We had a nice Thanksgiving dinner yesterday. My husband prepped and put the turkey in the oven and my daughter and older granddaughter and her husband came over to cook and set up. I hardly had to do anything. I had a really nice time with my granddaughters Saturday when they did the pre-prep and made the pies and stuff. Special memories :)

Valerie, I hope that PT helps you out.

Thanks you all for your positive words. I got intimidated with entire spin workouts because I was pushing too hard on speed/tension and burning out by 35 minutes. could not see how I would do 45-50. the full time is not all that much longer but it seemed like it wasnt possible. doing spin regularly helps, as does the countdown timer and learning not to crank up the dial too soon or too often. Cathe will kill you if you let her, with increasing the tension ! I learned I can't go too hard on the first few songs. then I have enough gas for the whole workout.

diane sue hope you get decent info from your mri. with a pacemaker, I cant get an MRI so imaging for me is limited. MRIs are so helpful.

I had a good meeting with the PT person with a series of exercises that may help strengthen and stretch the area.
very rough weather day today with a lot of wind and rain and power out for a few hours. looks like the worst is over. power is back up.

Cathy it would be a traveling cat. we've never had a kitty that liked travel so that's worrisome. I know people who have traveled with kitties without trouble., none of ours were good at it, but its true..... almost every time in the car was to the vet. not a happy day for anyone.

I got a call from my doctor and I have a tear in a tendon. They are referring me to an orthopedic doctor. So now I wait for them to call to set up an appointment. I am a bit anxious about getting Christmas presents purchased. We are doing our family Christmas the 12th of December at my daughter's house. We have to work around everyone's schedules. I have not been out shopping in quite awhile. I had Walmart deliver for the first time as I was still missing things when I got stuff from Whole Foods. Saves me from the pain after pushing a cart around and pulling groceries from shelves to cart and cart to check out and back to the car. It has hurt terribly. I try to avoid reaching out too far as that hurts. Soap and everything has moved to the left side of the sinks and toward the front. Today I had to not reach out with arms during child pose and up dog I could no way push off with my hands so I did something else.
Also I got up this morning and 3 lights were flashing on the dishwasher and it will not work. I tried unplugging and plugging it back in and multiple things I read. Weird as we ran it last night with all of the dinner dishes in it. It is not that old, but from what I read there is a lot of people with the same thing and checking answers to the problem it would be the control panel or a ribbon thing that hooks up in behind the control panel. I thought with everything pretty new in this house that we would be good for awhile :(
I am hoping getting parts is not difficult as I know buying appliances seems to take some time.

Cathy, I am sorry about your cat. It is tough to see them suffering.

Valerie, I saw that pacemakers and some other things make a difference in being able to get an mri. You have to verify a whole list of things to make sure it is safe to get an mri. I should pull out Ride. I couldn't remember which workout other than Pedal Power had the count down timer. I like the timers.

Carolyn, nice work with step sync. I print off the work sheets for weight work too. I also have the manuals printed out and on my tablet so I can see a rundown of moves to help me remember what is on certain workouts.

I dont know exactly how an MRI ( magnetic resonance imaging) works, but the strong magnetic forces involved will kill off a pacemaker. there are new pacemakers now that are not affected, but not something you do on a whim. I've had this for 15 years and have not even needed battery replacement. I thought there were special MRI units that work around pacemakers somehow but this is not important enough to pursue that.

Bummer on the tendon tear. at least you know what it is. even if its not great news it is comforting( I think) to put a name and a cause to a problem. I dont know what's done to fix that. might depend on the extent of the tear and where it is. Hopefully its easily fixable or heals by itself with rest.
that is a good thing about spinning...no upper body involvement. Ride and Pedal Power have timers. I dont think the other two do. Cycle Sweat and the other one ???

dishwashers! cant live without one. we had trouble with a Bosch one, failed to heat water when under warranty after a month or two, they replaced the part, and the same part failed a few years later. we did not repair it a second time. DW was 3-4 yo but was throwing away money on a lemon.

I did part of x train bis and tris, and the core workout. terrible weather today, flooding wind and power outs. went to PT early and got a batch of exercises and stretches to help with the bursitis.

Today I did Boss Loops Glutes and Core. My time was 52 minutes with 192 calories burned. Average heart rate was 111 and maximum heart rate was 142. I am already feeling the effects! Every part of my lower body is sore!

Cathy, I’m so sorry about your poor sleep. XTrain Legs will definitely get the lower body.

Diane Sue, great job with WS3 Cardio Step Jam and the Deep Stretch. It sounds like your family Thanksgiving celebration was a big success with your family members stepping in to do most of the work. I’m glad that the doctor’s office called with your MRI results. I’m sorry that you have a tear in a tendon, but it’s good to know what is going on. I have not purchased any Christmas gifts, but I’m not stressing about it—yet! I haven’t really done much shopping in actual stores since Covid started, excluding food and pharmacy trips. I’ve become very dependent on online shopping which is so easy.

Valerie, great job with XTrain Bis and Tris and Core. The rain and storms in Washington is so intense. I hope that you are not experiencing flooding in your area.

Waving hello to Judy. Have a wonderful day everyone.

We really got dumped on! relatively dry today with some scattered rain but things should improve now. plenty of places isolated by flooding or underwater. some significant mud slides, one closed the freeway for an unspecified time. we live on a ridge so are well above the flood issues. the biggest problems were to the north of us but in areas we go to a lot mainly to ride. all the rain and wind made for lots of trees coming down too. its messy out there!

This morning I did Cardio Crush, some high impact, but more than low than high and used the loop for some things, and Metabolic Meltdown, which has all weighted exercise, not all the Metabolic workouts do. Felt it was rather heavy on shoulder work, so I ended up dropping down in weight from Cathe on some things.

Diane Sue great job with the Walk Strong workouts! Even if it wasn't the best news, at least you do now know what the problem with your shoulder is and can start addressing it. Appliances are so frustrating when they have issues. It used to be you knew they could be fixed, but they are no longer made to last for the long haul.

Valerie I'm glad you were able to meet with the PT and get exercises that can help you. Great job with the XTrain workout!

Carolyn great job with the Boss Loops Glute and Core workout!

Did you all see Cathe put out info on the basics of the new workouts? I saw it on FB. She's still figuring out exactly what they will be, but it sounds like pre-orders will start after the first of the year.

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a short upper body workout after work and today I did a 45 minute Peloton Climb Ride.
I'm working more over the next few weeks but my hours will go back down again after Christmas.

Diane Sue-I'm sorry about the tear in your tendon. Great job with Walk Strong 3 Cardio Step Jam and Deep Stretch. That is such a good series.

Cathy-I'm so sorry about your cat. Cathe's new series sounds really good.

Carolyn-Great job with Boss Loops Glutes and Core.

Valerie-I'm sorry about your hip bursitis. I've dealt with that off and on for a few years now too. It bothered me more when I was running a lot. I'm sure the PT exercises will be beneficial. Great job doing the entire Ride workout.

Today I did X Train Ride on the spin bike, 55 minutes, 232 calories, heart rate 123/155, 3964 steps(I used cardio this time instead of the cycling setting) 11.79 miles. The bike readout said 431 calories. Ha!
I also did some stretching for lower body and work on upper back knots.
It was good to find out what I am dealing with. Now I know why boxing workouts hurt so much. Also it gives me an idea of protocol. I guess I need to leave that shoulder alone. As long as I keep it pretty much still and not reaching it gets to feeling better. They still have not put the report on the website as I would like to look at the interpretation.

Valerie, I remember when you were dealing with dishwasher issues. I really did not expect to move into a house that is about a year old and have appliances to start going out. It is frustrating. We repaired the one at our last home and installed a new control panel ourselves, but we knew what the problem was for sure after paying some lunatic to try to fix it. He messed with it and got it to work and said call if any more problems. When we called he said the part would be 225 dollars and he would charge half for service call after paying him a bunch to come out the first time. We got the part for 98 dollars and used youtube to install it. From checking online it could be one of 3 things so, I am not sure about what to do. One of the items seems to be out of stock and I really do not think it is the latch. So that leaves the control panel or a ribbon wire thing that hooks up in there. At the cost of repairs it is almost cheaper to just get another one. This is not the best time to try to buy appliances though. We had beautiful weather today in the 70's. Weather is always changing this time of year. Last week we had a 31 degree low and unhooked our hoses. I have someone coming to winterize the sprinkler system next week. I do hope it is nice next week as I am dog sitting for 6 days with my son's pup.

Judy, nice job getting a weight workout in and Peloton ride. I kind of thought that you would be working extra during the holidays.

Kathy, I need to go look at those workouts. I doubt I am going to be picking up weights for awhile though. Cathe does a lot of upper stuff in her metabolic workouts. I personally prefer to do either an upper or a lower, but not combined in one move which seems to be the case a lot of the time.

Carolyn, I really like the Boss Bands and Loops workouts. I always notice the effects on the lower body work. I am glad that I know what I am dealing with as now I know what to not do. Although I have sort of learned what causes the pain to increase and have adapted some. Just things like tugging up a blanket when trying to sleep can set off pain. I have not been to a pharmacy other that having to go by it to get protein bars at Walmart. I try to keep those trips minimal. Most of the time I have things delivered. I get my prescription mailed to me so no need to go to a pharmacy. I will get my flu shot at my physical on the 2nd. We are having Christmas early so I need to get online and see what I can find.

I am going to do some leg work with bands in awhile. I finally saw the report from the mri last night. Not good. They said it is a full thickness tear in the supraspinatas tendon. Research tells me it is probably going to be surgery and possible long recovery. I had a hard time falling asleep last night. My husband said he wished I would stop looking on the internet. The thing is when a person is older repairs and proper healing can be harder. A lot depends on what other damage is there. They generally go in and reattach the tendon, check for nerve damage and stuff and sometimes there are other repairs that need to be done because of wear and if other things. I already know there is arthritis in there, so that worries me.

I did Ride spin again although not the whole thing. then some stretching. dinner prep didn't go smoothly and I had to stop twice, but did 40 minutes. my hip was sore from all the PT work the day before so that was fine to go easy IMO. IMO the higher calorie reading for spinning is probably more accurate. I dont get many WW points for spin and I think its under valued.
no matter how good a shape we are in, our tissue is older and not as resilient as when we were 20. body parts wear out. shoulders are a complex joint. online info can help but it can be too general, not current or anywhere as nuanced as from someone looking at the actual scan. there's a lot of complex variable information condensed down to what a non medical person can understand and hopefully not misunderstand. believe me, all those years of extremely specific education and experience can't be distilled down to a paragraph.... wait for the expert opinion.
we are going to go to MT again for a short trip. going tomorrow. we were getting mice in our crawl space and contracted with a pest company to work with us but DH wants to check on things before winter settles in.

Dishwashers!. I have had way too many dishwashers in my lifetime! repairs are ridiculously expensive. we do u-tube too. after our last DW failed, Bosch should have covered it. it was the second time the heater failed 3 years but they would not. we have a good local appliance dealer with good service techs but it would have cost half of what a new unit cost. I got another Bosch against my own better judgement, and this one has been solid. I don't remember what it was but something about the Kitchen aide model I didn't like.

This morning I did WS3 Cardio Step Jam, inspired by Diane Sue. That was 32 minutes and 222 calories burned. My average heart rate was 129 and maximum heart rate was 150.

Cathy, great job with Cardio Crush and Metabolic Meltdown. I saw Cathe’s announcement about the new series this morning. I look forward to hearing more. I love Cathe’s strength workouts more than any other trainer that I have tried.

Judy, nice job with the upper body workout and Peloton Climb ride.

Diane Sue, nice job with the Ride spinning workout. I didn’t order that one since I didn’t have a spin bike at the time. It’s good to be able to read the MRI report online, but I agree with Valerie—wait to talk it over with the physician before getting worried.

Valerie, great job with the Ride spinning workout.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

I decided that I am tired and will wait till tomorrow as I have cleaning and stuff to get done. My husband took the day off yesterday. I got a Walmart order delivered this morning. Finally some berries and oranges. I am getting tired of putting dried cranberries in my oats and protein bowl I make. Last time I forgot to add berries and when I tried to add, which they say you can do and I did right away, they sent back some lame excuse about I could not do it because my payment method would not allow it. Whole foods started doing the same thing, but with another excuse. This time I ordered some frozen cherries for just in case I run out of berries.

Valerie, I know I have to be getting a better calorie burn on the spin bike than the trackers give. I was working hard and sweating. The Garmin tries to pick up on a cadence device with bluetooth when I put it on the indoor cycle setting. I do have that device in my Amazon wish list, but am really not sure how much I need it. I was surprised at the steps it gave me though using cardio. I think last time I went on and used the cycle setting without the device and I got something like 200 steps. As effort as we put out on those bikes, we should have really good readings. I had not done ride in a long time. I forgot how much of out of the saddle and up and down there was. That really gets the heart rate up there. I was disappointed in the youtube one I did awhile back as it was just all seated and I hated all of the flashing lights in the room the woman was riding in. I went back and unsaved the other workouts of hers.
You are right on waiting till I meet with the surgeon. Many things can make a difference as to how it is handled. Maybe the surgeon will look at the mri pictures and have a better idea than the arthritis doctor. My daughter kept telling me I needed to go to a orthopedic surgeon as this would be his specialty. Plus she was not real happy when she realized that they had a in house mri unit ( not as comfortable as others I have been in) and that the arthritis doctors are the ones that read the results rather that what you would get in a hospital. One of the 0ver 70 year old women in my ladies group went through a repair surgery about a year ago and is doing great now. I read that there is a lot of variables and in the end they said after a surgery a lot will depend on the patient and how much effort they put into the healing process and focus on getting back to the flexibility and strength that they had before. That being said it sounds like heavier lifting would probably be a big no in the future, but I will see. I have never went back to as heavy as I used to do after the mri a couple of years ago. In fact I have gradually decreased my weights. I look at my kettlebells and cringe at the thought of swinging one of them again. It just does not seem like a wise thing to do at all.
I would have thought that Bosch would be a good company to stand by their products. I checked this one that is a Fridgidaire and it has a one year warranty and came with the home so no way there. It seems looking on line a lot of people have had this happen and some even under warranty still. I will have to check how the control panel is removed as this is one of the newer ones that the keypad is on top of the door and not on the front like the last one we changed. Our one we repaired was much nicer and had a stainless steel interior. We lived there for 6 years and the repair we did lasted four so was worth it.

Carolyn, I really do like the Cardio Step Jam and the Step and Stride workouts that Jessica Smith does. I like using the high step topper and risers a lot. Funny, the mri report did not say much other than refer to orthopedic surgeon and what the tear actually was. The nurse that called me just said there was a tear in a tendon. She may have said which one, but I did not remember it. Once I read what it was I looked to see which one it was.
