Good morning,

Not a good day yesterday. Keegan was sick, vomiting most of the day, then he seemed ok but when we came back from shopping, he had had diarrhea all over the kitchen, and it was pretty bloody. We took him to the emergency vet, ( of course my vet was closed at that point) and they kept him overnight so they could do IV fluids and meds. I hope we can get him this morning. :(.

Valerie, welcome back!

Hope everyone is having a good weekend,

Take care,

Deb...hope Keegan is ok. I am so up set over a flea can't imagine what you are going thru. Thinking of you today.

Yesterday I had a great workout. Started off with Cathe Live Boxing and Leg Blast. Only did the Boxing portion and used my heavy bag. I then continued with SB's lower target which is her most recent then I followed up with her Total Body Fusion. I felt completely worked and it felt great. Today I will do the live spin class from Thursday and will add some core.

I spent the afternoon with the GF and had so much fun. We had lunch, mani and pedis, shopped a bit then came home to meet up with DS. Was a really nice time. We went by Petco and I spent $175 on flea stuff. Had no idea it was this expensive. I bought a 4 month supply of Advantage for both dogs, some flea shampoo for Nilla and some natural spray to help relieve her itching. Also bought a spray to use around there bedding. Crazy expensive.

Welcome back Valerie!!!

Judy...I have seen that workout with her warmups strung together. Cathe has some great ones and some are a little workout in itself. One of my favorites is X10's warmup.

Going out for breakfast with DS. Dh is working today. :(

Have a great day! Hi to Josie and Lynda!

Deb, hope Keegan is OK. why do pets get sick at the worst times?? seems like always weekends or holidays.... emergency vets ..glad they're there, but it gets expensive quickly.
Lori that is why I just treat my kitty monthly during flea season here. It's a lot cheaper to prevent the problem than cure it, especially with 2 dogs. if one has fleas, they both do, whether you see them or not. some dogs and cats react more to flea bites. I am either lucky or unlucky that I react to flea bites intensely. If my kitty has a flea, it will jump to me, and I will get itchy distinctive bites. this can happen even with treatment but much less likely, and it's controllable. I am the canary in the coal mine. so from April to October, Puss gets flea preventive treatment.
If you can wash their bedding, it will help, and vacuuming does too. get rid of what you vacuum up since it will have flea eggs. when I had a dog, I used an aerosol "bomb" a couple times a year to rid the house of fleas, but that was before topical products that work much better than flea collars.

we did cleaning and gardening yesterday. I also did bi's and tri's and core 1.

I scrubbed out the frig/freezer thoroughly. we had a power out a few weeks ago. ice cream melted and ran, and then re-froze to the walls and floor. UGH. a sideways container of vanilla on the top shelf made quite a mess. all the talk last week about refrigerators got me going. would have been easier before it all refroze, but with weather related power outs, you don't know how long you will have power and the other food was still frozen. so I tossed the ice cream and let it freeze.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did everything but the final stretch on SB's BarreAmped Bootcamp--a little over 60 min. Still surprised at how tough those downward dogs to upward dogs are, especially with the rest of that core workout.

WARNING: IF YOU PLAN ON WATCHING FIVE DAYS, DON'T READ THE NEXT PARAGRAPH.

Deb, that sounds awful for Keegan. Wonder what's going on and hope it's nothing serious. On Five Days what is so sad is that the mom, Leanne, just got into a minor scuffle with the flower seller from Macedonia and was pushed for being uppity and hits her head, falling unconscious. Everything escalated when the son of the woman at the nursing home panicked and decided to take her, worried about his cigarette smuggling business. Then she tells him about the kids, after he dumps her at her grandfather's trailer; he goes and finds the kids, gets bit by the dog and leaves the boy and dog in that storage shed, tries to call the real brains behind the smuggling business, who turns out too be the husband's 'good' friend from army days. Since he can't reach him, he really doesn't know what to do, so he takes the little girl to the trailer with her mom, gives her something to make her sleepy. Then, the soldier friend, because the whole thing has escalated beyond all expectations, tells him to dump the mother's body, even though she is still alive but apparently going in and out of consciousness. I was suspicious of the soldier friend, because he doesn't stay with his friend on his birthday in an earlier episode because he doesn't want to deal with the whole family and bows out because he says it's a family thing. The little girl just keeps saying that her mom is sleeping, but for some strange reason the idiot detectives don't really pursue questioning her about why she thinks her mom is sleeping. Everyone is implicated in one way or another in the mess. I don't understand why you can't get closed caption. I do it on all of my Prime videos on TV. I don't think it's the device you use, but part of the options menu on the videos. It is especially helpful on British or Australian series where the accents are hard to decipher.

Lori, DH applies those ampules to Max's neck on a regular basis. His neck is always a little greasy for awhile, but I think the vet just recommended it as a habitual preventative and much more effective than flea collars. That sounds like a really fun day with your son's girlfriend. And lucky you on the wine!

Welcome back, Valerie!

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi

Thanks for all the well wishes...
We picked Keegan up around 11:00 this morning. He is a lot better. They are not sure exactly what it is, but since he resonded so well to the IV meds, they are using a large "umbrella" decription of a term that starts with "gastro.....". She mentioned Ghardia, but only as anothr catch-all. He is on RX food for gastro issues, and 2 different meds.

Deb, hope Keegan is over this. doggie gastroenteritis? giardia is a single cell organism from contaminated water. also known as "beaver fever" people get it too. water doesn't need to LOOK bad, perfectly clear water can still contain giardia. Lots of times medical professionals mainly treat symptoms, and never know for sure what caused the problem.
we did a 15 mile ride today, nothing challenging, pleasant. lovely outside. saw a dipper(bird), kingfisher, and a whole bunch of migrating coho salmon splashing upstream.

Good morning,

So far, so good with Keegan. He hasn't had any vomiting issues, but has not eaten enough to see how the other part is doing. I have to keep an eye on him to see if things are getting back to normal. Of course we are going away this coming weekend.. I guess if it had to happen, better this weekend while we were here, and not next when we would be away.

Valerie, we recently set off 15 flea "bombs" at the dog training hall. We have to do that once in a while, as you can imagine, with the number of dogs that are in and out of there. I am sure that is where any of the fleas our dogs have gotten came from. Did you lose much food in the power outage? It sounds like it was not for long, and only the ice cream was a problem.

Lynda, thanks for the recap of the end of 5 Days. It was pretty garbled for me for some reason. I was ok with most of the dialog up to the very end. I did have the closed caption option turned on at one point for something, then turned it off. I will have to Google it again if I am going to watch something again that has people speaking with that heavy of an accent. We also use those flea preventer ampules...I try to only use them when I see an indication of fleas. Never in winter.

The Good Wife started last night, for anyone that watches it. I will watch today on the laptop. I almost want to watch the last episode of season 6 so I can be reminded of what was going on, it seems so long ago that it was on.

Some new info and pics for the new workouts in the "upcoming" forum. Sounds good!

Hi to Josie, Judy, & Lori,

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

Had a good time in SD and got to see my DS and the grandkids. My DS is a UBER driver and took us to and picked us up from the concert.
He does this part time on the weekends, and he said that he makes at least $200-$300.

Today is my followup appointment to go over my lab results. I will let you ladies know what happens.

Deb, glad that Keegan is doing better.

Valerie, sounds like you had a good vacation this time.

I will be back later.

Josie

Deb, used the opportunity to clean out my freezer. ice cream was the main loss. the ice maker bucket defrosted and dripped onto the floor. I keep mostly bread products, nuts, juice, some frozen vegies in this freezer so was not too concerned about things thawing and refreezing. I have a dedicated freezer in the garage where most food is stored, that one did not defrost.

we use either subtitles or CC routinely, but especially with British or Australian shows. we are watching TGW right now, I forget what season. 5 or 6. Love this show.

Deb the flea bombs kill everything, and where you have a lot of dogs mingling, it probably keeps the flea population manageable.
If you want to learn how the two things ( fleas, tapeworms) connect, look up flea/ tapeworm life cycle. the flea is an "intermediate host" for the tapeworm. It's really interesting ....explained in pictures better than words.
the dog bites the flea. if the flea has tapeworm eggs in its system, the dog gets tapeworms because flea larva ingest tapeworm eggs, the dog eats the flea , the flea transmits the tapeworms to the dog. it's an interrelated cycle. if you have fleas, you probably have tapeworms. the dog will shed tapeworm segments in its stool or they can be present in the fur around the anus. look like rice grains and can be mobile. the segments dry out and are ingested by fleas where they can go back to the dog. the fleas get on the dog. the dog bites the flea. and so on. dogs don't get tapeworms directly from the tapeworm segments they shed, the tapeworm has to pass thru the flea first. so the flea is the intermediate host. anyway, if you control fleas, you control tapeworms too.

Josie best of luck on your labs.

I don't know what Five Days is, will go look at last weeks thread. we are going thru TGW quickly. Tried watching two new series, Blindspot, and Rosemond . Neither one appeals to me. think HOC is next up on our queue, I know you mentioned something about it last week Lynda.

Hi everyone--

This morning I did both low impact workouts together (50:08).

Deb, I hope all is well with Keegan. I had no idea dogs could get giardia. What do you do when you are hiking with your dog and the dog wants to take a drink from a mountain stream, lake, brook, etc.? Maybe because Max is a farm dog the vet recommends using those ampules on a regular basis. With Keegan's blood in the stool, I thought maybe he ate something with poison in it. I enjoyed the GW last night. I think she has a new woman friend who will be a regular character. Just guessing. I will have to check about the new series ICE. Getting impatient.

Lori, maybe Chester has a tapeworm if he has fleas like Nilla. Could be, given all that info Valerie has provided.

I went to see Phoenix yesterday. I was fascinated with the similarities/differences from Hitchcock's Vertigo. If I were still teaching my old film course on representations of women in film, I would definitely teach the two of them together. Hitchcock's female characters are inevitably representations of male desire. Petzold (the director of Phoenix) really turns that issue inside out with his female character, Nelly.

Valerie, that sounds like a lovely ride when you get to see so many interesting birds.

Getting my mammogram this afternoon.

I don't want to get tedious about fleas and tapeworms... but I will anyway. Said unlikely to cause significant weight loss in an adult dog. they would probably eat more to compensate. still, when my kitty looks like he's lost a pound, I think about getting worm meds. for cats, it's the same as flea medicine....a small drop on the back of the neck and that's it. I don't know how it is for dogs. My kitty doesn't have fleas, but occasionally he eats questionable things outside, like a mouse, and brings the remainder to the door for us. so once a year, I get worm meds for him. My dog used to get tapeworms, despite my best efforts. when they shed worm segments, it's pretty gross.
It's a bit like malaria. people don't get malaria from each other directly like colds, there has to be a mosquito involved.

I had no idea dogs could get giardia either. I possibly had giardia once, had the symptoms, but never confirmed. it was unpleasant. most likely drinking untreated water.

deb hope all continues normally .

I think I saw the title 5 Days as DH was zipping thru Hulu on his way to Quantico. another dumb one.
Lynda, best of luck on the mammo.

ETA we did a 25 mile ride today and are hiking tomorrow.

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday I did do the Live Spin class and really liked it. And today no run in the morning. Wanted to sleep in. At lunch we did Barre Legs - this our usual staple on Monday's. No workout tonight, my legs are tired after yesterday and today's workout.

Deb...so glad Keegan in doing well. I need to be careful with Chester, he drinks from the lake all the time!

Valerie...good information. Need to look into the tapeworm. Perhaps as Lynda suggested this could be Chester's issue. The animals do not seem to be itching so hoping we caught it before it became an epidemic. Your trip sounds really nice.

Lynda...the movie sounds really great. Will need to look it up. The new workouts look great. I like seeing the updates. Good luck on the mammogram!

Josie..glad you enjoyed your time with the grandkids. My DH's friend is an Uber driver in Atlanta and does quite well. Hope your lab result are good!

Have a great night! Hi to Judy!

Good morning,

Keegan is doing much better, hopefully we can have him back on his regular food before we take them to our friends for the trip. We have to ease him back to it slowly over the next few days.

Josie, hope your lab numbers are good....those UBER drivers work all over DC...It's pretty interesting...you sign up with UBER, put a credit card on file, and have an app on your phone to get a cab. No money exchanged except for the tip, the fare goes on your card. That is how my friend does it when we used them while in DC.

Valerie, good info on the tapeworm/flea cycle, I never knew about that. Five Days is a short HBO series, takes place somewhere in Britain. Good story, very creepy with how it is filmed and the music. If you watch it, make sure you set up for CC...

Lynda, How did the Mammo go? I think a mountain stream or something like that is probably ok, if the water is moving etc. They say it can come from standing water....like a puddle or something like that. I never let our dogs drink from the water dishes at the dog club, not sure how long they have been there, or what dogs have been drinking out of them....I always bring my own water and dish then pack them back when we leave. The new series looks really good, I am getting anxious to get them too.

Lori, great workouts! Are you back doing the 21 DF eating plan? I'm not sure about drinking from a lake...if that would be that dangerous for Chester to drink....if the water is moving....I think it's when it is standing still or has algae and other stuff in it....Also 2 vets told me that they see a lot of this type of think in spring and fall....not sure why that is. Is there a test for tapeworm in dogs? I would ask the vet, it can't hurt. They are not infallible, and may not have thought of that.

Hi to Judy,

A workout, and maybe start to plan for packing...

Take care,

Hi Everyone,

I'm enjoying a break from STS but actually looking forward to the start of Meso 3. I'm sure I will be fast forwarding through some of those longer breaks though. Or maybe I will throw in some core work during the break and kill 2 birds with one stone.
Yesterday I did an indoor bike ride and I think I will do another one today, along with some core work and stretching.
Tomorrow I have my annual mammogram in the morning.

Deb-I'm glad that Keegan is doing better. Hope he can get back to his regular food soon.

Josie- I hope your lab report is good.

Valerie- We use Advantage Multi on Chino & Shadow. It's a monthly treatment and works for heartworm, fleas, hookworm, roundworm and ear mites.

Lynda- I hope your mammogram went very well. I'm always a little nervous when I get mine.

Lori-I know what you mean about the cost. The advantage multi is about $90 for a 6 month supply so $180 for both cats.

Have a great day!

Judy

Judy,

Doing core work during those looonnng breaks between sets is a great idea! I may just have to look at starting Meso 3 when I get back from DC. :)

Hi everyone--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris with core 1 (49:30).

Did the mammogram yesterday afternoon. Now I will just have to wait for the results. There is no radiologist onsite in North Adams, which is where I go. They send the x-rays to Berkshire Medical Center in Pittsfield.

Deb, that's wonderful that Keegan is getting back to his normal self. I have been looking at all the photos for the new workouts and am certainly getting excited about them. What did you think of the GW?

Judy, that sounds like a great idea for using up the dead time on meso 3. Good luck on your mammogram! Sounds like we are all getting checked out in breast cancer awareness month. DH showed me a bit of some NFL football game where all the players were wearing something pink. DH said it looked more like fuchsia to him. Being sardonic I guess, because he's always asking me what some color is from fashion--bile green, tangerine, citron, greige, etc.

Lori, my legs would be fried too if I did spin followed by barre.

Valerie, I haven't watched Quantico but I do recall from EW that it received some good reviews.

Hi to Josie!

Good evening ladies!

This morning I ran and this afternoon was Cathe Travel Fit. It was a condensed version I made up and only had upper body. From start to finish it was about 35 minutes. Everyone loved the burn. No workout tonight as I felt these two workouts were good enough!

Judy...great idea to throw in some core. No way could I wait that long between sets. I ended up cutting it down some and I think most do.

Deb...so glad Keegan continues to improve. Good to know about the moving water. I would have to say yes and know on the 21 day fix. I will say it has completely changed my eating habits and made me more aware of portion size. The weight that I lost is still off so if it creeps back up then I will follow the plan more closely. We leave for Cancun on Saturday and hello bikini! So thinking I may be back on it when I come home!!! I am bringing a couple of 1 pieces and tankini's for those days I eat a lot!

Lynda...I love that the NFL does that. Your DH sounds hilarious!

Loving the pictures Cathe has been posting!

Hi to Valerie and Josie!

We just got back from a 6 hour hike. probably about 8 miles. tough but not ridiculous.

Anti flea meds.... different parts of the US have different issues. for example, heartworm is not a problem out west ( to my knowledge) so we don't treat for it. I've read that fleas are getting resistant to some meds in some parts of the country,so your vet is the best person who knows what you need to "cover" the problems in your geographic area. there are different formulations for cats and dogs, and also size of the animal. I use Revolution for an 8 lb cat but I think they have Advantage available too. Buying it at the Vet office, I get two extra ampules for the same price so it's a pretty good deal.

Deb, it's not true about 'moving water" being safe..... you can get giardia from any water that has been contaminated. even water that looks pristine. we used to have to find the giardia protozoa ( back in my laboratory days) in a the stool sample to confirm, not sure if there's an easier way to do it now. I'm pretty sure I had it once, but could not confirm and never was treated. we 'treat" all outdoor water we drink, usually with a UV light system called "steri pen" that is quick and easy. other methods make the water taste awful, and take a long time to complete. Depends on what you're dealing with. sometimes you need to pre filter.

I am not due for my mamm until Jan and will let go until then. more tomorrow.
