Happy Halloween!

Just got back from walking the dogs. Couch to 5K and 4DS Back & Biceps on the schedule for the workout today. Then more HouseMax, stuff I did not get to yesterday because I chose to nap.

Joan, LOL about leaving out a muscle group. I think if I had the workout blender, I would intentionally leave out those dreaded sit n' stands, and the wall squats, oh..and anything that used paper plates. :D

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Drill Max, the upper body premix (60 min.).

Yesterday was a big Housemax day for me. They are FINALLY done installing our new furnace, and it's been great getting the heat going this weekend, because there is definitely a nip in the air.

Went out to dinner with friends last night and stayed out until 11. Tonight is Halloween, but we don't have any candy because no one wants to trek up our driveway for a couple of bite size Milky Ways or Snickers. Our friends live down in town and decided they just did not want to spend 50 dollars on candy this year, so they are going out to dinner again. We used to take our boys down to town and we would bring bags of candy to replenish people's bowls because we really felt like we were imposing. I am soooo glad not to have all those leftover bites of yummy candy bars in the house.

Another crazy week ahead. Not sure how long I will stay in NYC.

Deb, not to be an enabler, but I read some very nice things about skin stuff by Tata Harper. A bit pricey, though.

I'm here, didn't do the planned camping trip. No point in driving 200 miles if the weather will be worse than here. instead did a hike... tough. We have gotten a huge pile of snow in the mts above 4000 feet. almost nothing at 4000, but piled up very quickly above that. Heavy nasty stuff, like walking in semi frozen mashed potatoes. we stupidly left our snowshoes in the car thinking that no snow to speak of at the trailhead meant there wouldn't be much up higher as this is not a real long or steep trail. we got up to the open meadow, snow up to our butts, and had a short but lovely close up view of mts Baker & Shuksan before we could see clouds streaming in. so we hustled down but it was snowing/raining before we got back to the car. 4.5 hours, 5 tough miles. walking in deep heavy snow with a breakable crust is extremely taxing. Feels like the snow surface will hold you but suddenly breaks thru down to your knees. but not always, so every step can be a "surprise".

I did as planned on friday disk 4. Did at least 2x as many toe pushups as disk 1. I don't think my form is perfect but I keep working on them. I'm starting to think they are more effective (than I thought at first) and you're unlikely to injure yourself doing them. I think it's easier to tear something using heavy weights with the lever of your arm length. Instead of the straddle and bootcamp ones I'm sticking to plain 'ol pushups for now.
My sister fell recently and has an acute rotator cuff tear, scheduled for surgery. my brother has unfixable tears in both shoulders. He's had 4-5 surgeries and eventually will need shoulder replacement. so I don't know if we (as a family) have vulnerable anatomy or just are unlucky. but I'm careful about shoulder work.

My friend who had the robotic hysterectomy... she has 4-5 tiny incisions on her abdomen which I guess releases attachments, and parts are removed vaginally. Called the DaVinci procedure. neighbor is having a plain old vaginal procedure. regardless, weeks of very limited activity either way. Hope Hope I won't ever need that.
Lynda, I am going to try that curry. I made vegie enchiladas last night....really good, used some canned MILD enchilada sauce and DH thought it was "too spicy". I was ready to tear our his hair!
We will work on completing our floor today unless the rain clears up. tomorrow is rain for sure.

Found printing on DH's computer gives a better printout of worksheets. bigger print, 2 pages, whereas mine makes the print teensy (and won't adjust) and compressed on 1 sheet. My system used to do the 2 pages but something changed and it won't do it anymore. thought it was friefox, but when I open with explorer it still won't.

Deb I guess I'm an anomaly. I like wall squats. I love how they focus on the thighs. If I move my feet outward more I can get low enough to pick up the weights. sit n stands, not too fond of those. paper plates, I've gotten to do Ok but don't especially like.

Workout done, 4DS Legs..whew forgot how long that warm up is.

Garance, I remember when we got our new furnace a couple of years ago. It was so nice, to have reliable heat. Also, the gas bills were so much lower! Is the line called "Tata Harper"? I looked on Makeupalley but did not see it listed.

Valerie, what you did the other day does not seem like a lot of fun to me... I give you a lot of credit for doing those hikes. Wow...You must be in terrific shape. I would have sat down and cried. Do you want those documents again with all the Cathe worksheets in Excel?

Hi to Joan, Cathy & Josie,

Deb, DH and I (probably) have the same data on both systems so I think he should have the GS workouts. He uses Win 7, doesn't have Excel, and he has a new "all in one printer". My printer is a very old HP that still works well except for occasional issues. I plan on continuing STS now so probably won't need anything else.

The hike was hard 'cause we were dumb and didn't bring the 'shoes. .. thought we wouldn't need them. We've carried snowshoes many times and didn't use them. it's always a trade off of extra weight vs need. ideally you would carry all sorts of stuff "just in case" but the extra weight becomes a killer. You want to take what you need and not unneeded extras. an extra 5 lbs is very noticeable. It is a lovely spot, and we also saw deer, elk and pine marten tracks.

We did a trail walk/jog yesterday for an hour. DH wants to try trail running but I'm not enthused. I don't like the uneven surface of rocks and roots. I prefer treadmill. I'd rather walk fast and skip trying to run.

Defrosting the freezer today for fun and excitement.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Petra Kolber's Just Dance (50 min.).

If you google Tata Harper, Deb, you will get her website. I read an article about her in Vogue that made her all-natural creams sound really good. She wears no makeup and apparently has a glowing complexion. Good for you on getting through that leg workout. I just plain don't want to do that kind of leg work any more. I'm sold on barre stuff.

Valerie, that hike sounds really daunting. I'm with Deb--no fun factor there at all.

Another really jam-packed afternoon, so I will sign out for now.

Tuesday

Good morning,

Today I did the Couch to 5K treadmill workout. It's only around 25 degrees here right now, fall is here and winter is around the corner...:(. Going to vote this morning. Voting against all the incumbents, regardless of their party.

Valerie, do you print the workout sheets from Cathe's workout manager for STS? I don't think I would like trail running either, too many ways to fall. Defrosting a freezer is one of those jobs you put off for a long time, like cleaning the oven.

Garance, how old is this person with the glowing complexion? is she over 40? I did look at her website, but did not find prices or maybe I did not look in the right places. I will try again. Are you going to order something from her site? What did Vogue say was the one to look at?

Hi to Josie, Joan & Cathy,

Take care,

Deb, I printed all STS workout sheets, put into ring binder. I never did 1 RM testing instead record weight I use. some parts of STS I've done 5 times. It really was the first true weight program I used, had almost no experience when I started. If I haven't done weights in months, I wouldn't use the previous weight to start anyway, though I find I can usually increase pretty quickly. I write in weight used with arrows to increase or decrease. If the sheet gets too scribbled up I print a new one. sometimes I write down other reminders. DH records what he uses on the left margin. easy to print a new sheet and transfer my last weights.

there's not much speed difference between running and walking for me, and I feel less risky so I'll stick to walking fast.

I did disk 5 yesterday along with the stationary bike. we finished our floor project except for putting things back, like the toilet. gotta give the floor a couple days to dry totally.

I have a non frost free freezer and need to defrost 1-2 times a year. It's more work but no freezer burn problems.

WA went to all mail voting a year ago but I'd been getting a mail in ballot for years before that, didn't want to miss voting because of job travel. I mailed my ballot 10 days ago but people can mail even today so the final results may be a few days before enough are counted.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Ellen Barrett's Slim Sculpt (45 min.).

Deb, I think it's the serum that received very high praise. I will re-read the article. I'm not sure how old Tata is, but definitely not young--this is already her third career and she has some kind of engineering degree. The price on the serum was 150 dollars, so I'm not sure I would want to put down that amount of money.

I voted this morning. Very depressed about the election this year. I expect more and worse gridlock, and if some of those crazy Tea Party candidates get in . . . . Ugh! Morning Joe will be here tonight because Mika is a Williams grad--as is Erin Burnett.

Long and difficult afternoon teaching.

Hi Ladies,

I will be doing my weight training plus cardio tonight. My DH and I will be voting tonight after work.

Deb, I agree with you about trail running. I fall on flat streets!

I will be back later.

Josie

yeah, gridlock. what happened to compromise? I don't see how we can as a country continue (successfully) long this way. I've been generally happy with my elected reps. not on every point, but so what. DH and I don't agree on everything but we're still married. some of the tea party candidates are so far off the deep end that it scares me. so we'll see what happens.

Good evening,

I'm so happy that I finally decided upon a wo. I will redo sts meso 3. I did disc 25 yesterday. I was embarrassed about the weights I used. 5-12lb dumbbells. I really don't want to get hurt this time. I think I will repeat this week and slowly increase the weights. I felt weights were too light this time but still am going to be careful. Shoulder was sore while doing the wo but felt fine after.

I had great skin and no wrinkles until age 49. Hormones are everything.

Joan

Good morning all,

Today I did shoulders, calves & core from 4DS. Whew..that's a tough one. I like the core work though, except I still can't do those lying side oblique ones where you lift both legs etc.

Valerie, around here I would be afraid my mail in vote would be tossed! I am very cynical about what happens in government in this state/county.

Garance, mmmm...who is Morning Joe? Have you been watching DWTS? Monday was the 200th show, and they brought back all the previous winners, and more. it was a pretty good one, although I think they are running out of ways to make it more interesting.

Josie, Hi, glad you dropped in!

Joan, good thinking on going really easy with the weights. I like Meso 3 too, only I FF on the rests, maybe go a minute. I agree on the hormone thing. I didn't get brown spots until after 40.

Cathy, how is the land purchase going?

Take care,

Hi Ladies,

My wo last night was tough. I know that I will be sore; we did a lot of pushups. Tonight is a one hour spinning class.

I found a biking group that is only 3 miles from my house and they meet on Saturday at 8:00, so I don't have to get up a 5:00 AM to go riding. I plan to start soon.

Joan, I agree with you regarding the hormones. My skin is still in good condition except for the brown spots on my cheeks. I started using a cream that has lightened them, but they are still there. I know that I got them from being out in the sun for years while training for marathons.

Hi Cathy, Garance and Deb!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dancin' Abs (60 min.).

It's so dark in the morning I just want to keep on sleeping. Daylight Savings is coming this Sunday, though. I am off to NYC tomorrow, so I won't be checking in for the next few days. I really cannot stay for the service on Sunday afternoon, so I will just be going to the induction ceremony tomorrow night.

Deb, Morning Joe is a MSNBC show every morning. Joe Scarborough is the Republican and Mika Brzezinski is the Democrat (daughter of Carter's Sec'y of State and Williams alum). Looks like they had a big crowd last night (I am looking at the photo on the front of the college newspaper--I did not go). No, I have not been watching DWTS. I am rather tired of it. Maybe the next round, depending on the celebs they choose.

Yep, once the hormones are gone, a lot of things begin to happen that we would all prefer did not. Joan, you finished all those laser treatments (?). Did you see any astounding improvements worth relaying to the rest of us? Don't feel bad about the weights. I'm still putzing along with my elbow and have not gone beyond 10s. I'm hoping to start STS again in January--new year, new me! (Hah!)

Hi to Josie, Valerie, and Cathy!

Good evening,

Just finished legs disc 26.

Garance I did all 4 treatments but he offered me a 5th one because we had trouble the first couple of times and didn't use all the laser head so he thought I didn't really get a full treatment. Since I'm back to babysitting I was waiting for Jan. to do that treatment. I had deep smile wrinkles on cheeks from under lip level up to under eye level. The wrinkles from bottom up to nose are almost gone and above that level they are about half or less as deep. If you asked me before treatment started I would have said that was good enough but now I really want them all gone. It's supposed to take up to a year for final results. Dark patches are almost all gone but again I would like them to disappear. I am really happy with line from nose to mouth. I would like to see the before and after picture he took to really see the difference. After the third treatment I was really happy but now my face in the mirror is the new normal and who is ever really satisfied?

Joan

Thursday

Good morning,

I just finished week 1 of the Couch to 5K program. I like it better using a podcast, you don't have to constantly watch the timer on the treadmill and there is half way decent music.

Garance, safe trip.

Josie, yes, same here, I did way too much tanning in my younger years and am paying for it now. Great news on finding the bike group so close by.

Joan, I would look into those treatments if I could stay in the house for a few days afterwards, but that is not happening yet. Maybe when I retire. How is your MIL doing?

Valerie, any treks today?

Hi to Cathy,

Take care,

Well, yes, as a matter of fact there was a trek wednesday! Did a medium hike, about 5 miles RT but carried both snowshoes and microspikes. we had a lot of rain after last weeks snow so it was a guess. It was lovely and very warm. 75 degrees at home and probably 60 and sunny up high. not as much snow in the trees on the way up but once out in the open..it's a beautiful view spot.. the snow was inconsistent. soft and mushy and deep, to crusty so we used the 'shoes but didn't need the spikes. this time we could have done without either, actually. first snowshoe is hard. They are hard to walk in for me, my feet come down pretty close together and I need to watch my stride so I don't trip myself. for me they get the outside hip muscles, like cathe's move with the paper plate balanced on your knee.

Election day here is still not over here... the two significant races for me are still undecided and may be for a while. very close, but with "my" candidates both leading slightly.

I went to a new yoga class tuesday but didn't care for it... too warm and crowded. 30 people in a not very big room. had to stagger the row so we didn't slap each other in the face. will try different class friday morning. also a 7am possible with fewer people but that's earlier than I like. later in the day did treadmill and elliptical for 30 minutes. less hiking and biking as the weather turns, so need to increase my time on indoor cardio.

Lynda & Joan, lighter weights and more reps especially if it keeps you from needing to lay off for weeks with injuries. shoulder injuries especially are a set back.
Joan glad you got such good results from the laser. yeah, hormones.... didn't know how much good they did til they're gone. I'm kind of lucky in that my face in particular never tanned. I always looked like I kept my head in a bag while my arms and legs tan fairly well. so I always wore foundation, to even out my skin tone. and even when it didn't have sunscreen it was a mechanical barrier. I think my skin still looks pretty good. still there's room for improvement.
Lynda have a good trip.
Josie, we hope to ride this morning, a short one though.

howdy all, actually, deb, the land purchase is done, but, we will not be moving for quite awhile. gotta remodel the house, and do some other stuff.
i have worked out this week, just no time to check-in. have had g/kids and then will have them when #4 is born anyday. so ,hope to be back sooner or later. :)

Finally Friday

Good morning,

I was tired this morning so at 4:00 I turned off the workout alarm. I am so ready for a couple of days off.

Valerie, same here on the election...one "pivotal" seat in the NY senate is still being counted. They are waiting to count the absentee and overseas ballots. Too bad about the yoga class. what happened to your other instructor? did she/he go to another place?

Cathy, congratulations on #4, let us know when the big moment happens!:D. Do you know if it is a boy or girl? do they have a name picked out?

What is everyone up to this weekend?

Take care,
