Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 10/29/2023

This morning I did STS 2 Upper Body 1. Dreary and cool here today and there is mention of the S word on Wednesday. The only flurries.

Valerie great job with the core and therapy work. I looked it up and tamaracks and larches are related and sound pretty much identical in their descriptions. Suddenly driving into different road conditions in scary. Most drastic I ever had was when I was driving along on dry pavement and went around a curve and the road was completely covered with snow. I was able to adjust okay, but was pretty freaked in the moment I saw it. I've driven in whiteouts, but it was already snowing so in general I was already being careful. Surgery rehab is such a tricky thing. What's too much activity what's too little. Nick got nicely chewed out by his surgeon when he had his broken foot and had been up at college, and using his scooter (the kind you prop a leg on) and the doctor up there had told him to start cutting back and using his foot more. I've also had doctors tell me that an athlete would have been back to playing way sooner than the average person because they'd accelerate their rehab. But that acceleration comes with a price tag most people can't afford.

Diane Sue nice job with Coffey fit TBTS, Lower Body Timesaver, and mobility workouts.

Hi to Judy and Carolyn.

there are several types of larches besides but they lose their needles in fall and resprout green in spring. some years the colors are dramatic, like if its been nice and there is a sudden freeze, and other years they sort of fade out.
I'm sure a pro athlete gets personalized care, because getting them back to 100 % represents $$$$. the average patient, we have more time. they know I'm in reasonably good shape and will work at this not sit and loll about. still, bones take time to heal and muscles/tendons/ligaments pulling on bones can in this case slow things down. old people don't heal and rebuild as fast as a young athlete. I will do my best to follow orders. I think I will get some PT but not right away. like probably all of us, I have a wide range of equipment to help out. I think walking is the limit for the first few weeks. I see him about 3 weeks after the surgery unless there is an issue early on. so he will address that then. what I usually do is go for an appt or two, learn the exercises, and then continue at home. I cant drive for the first few weeks. Im hoping to be able to use a stationary bike sooner than 3 months.

This morning I did my yoga/mobility workout for 18 minutes. Other than that I’m just puttering around the house. I try to prepare food for 2or 3 meals on Sunday and I have a Zoom with my kids. That usually takes most of my afternoon.

Cathy, nice job with STS 2 Upper Body 1. I was sore after doing that one earlier this week.

Hello to Valerie, Diane Sue, and Judy.

Today I did STS 2 Body Parts Legs + bonus + SB Extended Lying Step. Sounds like the new workouts are progressing through the steps as fast as can be expected. I may have them in time to fit them into this rotation which I believe goes through the end of the year. Forecast is saying 1-2" tomorrow. I'll get to listen to my husband about that. The man cannot except that the weather won't do what he wants. LOL

Carolyn nice job with the yoga.

Valerie I'm sure you'll find the best path forward to rehab after surgery. Color is so weird here this year. I checked the webcam that overlooks Marquette this morning and the colors are beautiful, but most of the leaves near my house are gone already.

all is a go so I will check back in when I can. if all goes reasonably well I will be in hospital over night and home wed. will do my last day of stretches and therapy and maybe a bike ride if it warms up.

cathy its so funny, lived in WI for 20+ years and never knew what a tamarack tree was not do I remember seeing them. maybe just northern WI and the UP?

Today I did P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch. That was 38 minutes and 222 calories burned. My average heart rate was 121 and maximum heart rate was 143.

Cathy, great job with STS 2 Body Parts Legs and SB Lying Stretch. I should look at that stretch. I don’t remember it at all.

Valerie, we will be thinking of you and hoping for the best possible outcome.

Hello to Judy and Diane Sue.

Today I did a 45 minute Peloton Ride and 10 minutes of Arms & Light Weights.

Cathy-Great job with STS 2 Upper Body 1 and STS 2 Body Parts Legs + bonus + SB Extended Lying Step. We have light snow flurries in the forecast for tonight and tomorrow. Most of the leaves are gone here too.

Carolyn-Great job with your yoga/mobility workout and P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch.

Diane Sue- I hope you had a nice rest day.

Valerie-like Carolyn said, we will be thinking of you and hoping for the best outcome.

Today I did STS 2.0 Total Body Trisets: Express 2 Lower Body, 23 minutes, 88 calories, heart rate107/131, 424 steps. I then did CDorner Step Aerobics basic intermediate #250, 33 minutes, 173 calories, heart rate 132/156, 2,127 steps. I finished with CD mobility challenge day 15 full body stretch on the beach(previously filmed one) 11 minutes and day 16 legs stretch all standing 10 minutes. stretch time was 21 minutes, 30 calories. Total time spent 77 minutes, 291 calories, 3,551 steps. Trying to get some things done today as I will be giving out treats to trick or treaters tomorrow so won't be getting much done around here tomorrow.

Cathy, nice work on STS2 body part legs plus bonus and SB extended lying step. I saw those workouts were well on the way. I have not ordered. I read the descriptions and was on the fence. Strength and spin sounds okay. A bit worried about jumping in the kickbox.

Valerie, sending good wishes for your procedure. I hope it all goes really well. Nice work getting in spin ride and abs today.

Carolyn, nice work on P30 Low Impact Hiit and extended stretch today and your Sunday stretch yesterday.

Judy, great job on the 45 minute Peloton ride and arms and light weights today.

I did a step routine I put together using Step Moves and the step from Cross Train Express. I need to remember to use the stretch from Step Moves more it's nice and long.

Valerie great job with spin for 35 min and x train abs. Sending you lots of good thoughts on your surgery and recovery. I hope everything goes as smoothly as possible. In the states tamarack's are Minnesota east and no farther south than Michigan. Range is mostly in Canada.

Judy nice job with 45 minute Peloton Ride and arms. We are supposed to get an inch or two right in the midst of trick or treating time here.

Diane Sue great job with STS 2.0 Total Body Trisets: Express 2 Lower Body, step and mobility workouts. There are a few kickboxing moves I just do a moderation. Hoping that she continues to have someone showing options.

Carolyn nice job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and the Extended Stretch. I use the lying stretch from Step Boss a lot. There's also a chair stretch, but I don't like it as much.

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body for 40 minutes and 159 calories burned. My average heart rate was 110 and maximum heart rate was 142.

Judy, nice job with the 45 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of Arms & light weights.

Diane Sue, great job with Total Body Trisets express Lower Body, CDorner Step Aerobics, and day 15 of the CDorner Mobility Challenge.

Cathy, great job with your step routine that you put together. I looked at the SB stretch that you mentioned and I realized that I’ve never done it. I always do the Chair Stretch. That lying stretch is on the PHA 3 dvd which I haven’t done much. That’s probably why I never used the stretch. It’s very similar to the one from Perfect 30 but the SB stretch includes some wrist stretches. I like the looks of it and will do it now that it’s on my radar.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did STS 2.0 Back and Biceps Mish Mosh 1 which took me 54 minutes( I had a couple of times that I had to stop and do something as well as deciding which method I wanted to use for the moves. I did not have this one printed up. I thought that I had done it before. It has an awful lot of the band work for back in it. I should have stopped and set up my fit tower. I used the door anchor for some of it. I burned 112 calories and heart rate was 85/117. I then did CDorner day 17 Full Body Mobility Flow warm up challenge, 14 minutes, 26 calories. Total time was 68 minutes, 138 calories.

Cathy, nice step workout choices. I don't mind kickboxing, I just don't like throwing in a bunch of jacks along with it. Since she mentions in the description something like jump or not, I figured it may be like some others she has done. Maybe there will be a modifier. I am pretty good at modifying myself. I just have a tendency to think I need to try to kick it up more.

Carolyn, good job on P30Perfect Pump Upper Body today.

This morning I did Live To the Mat Glutes and Core. That is a long (65) minute very thorough workout. We'll see how my lower body feels tomorrow. We had snow last night that stayed. It's going up to 40 today, so is should melt. Muskegon which is on Lake Michigan got just under 9" yesterday. Not only did it set a record for October it's more snow than they've ever had in October. Getting it out of the way early. Ours was at least an inch. Made for a fun Halloween I'm sure.

As of yesterday, Tux figured out how to get in the pet door on his own, which has really upped the drama in the house. He still hasn't used the litter box even though he's in for 10-12 hours overnight. He did go to the door several times today though and went out. This weekend I'll work with him on getting out the pet door. He's really not proficient yet at coming in, but he'll get there. Right now everyone is sleeping far apart. Mostly, of course, it's Chester who has issues with him. And, while not appearing aggressive,
Tux seems quite inclined to push Chester's buttons.

Carolyn great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body. Since I usually just use On Demand, I'd forgotten what disc that stretch was on.

Diane Sue nice job with STS 2.0 Back and Biceps Mish Mosh and Full Body Mobility Flow. I'm really not a fan of all the jacks she tends to put in the kickboxing workouts. I can do a whole workout and those will be the only thing I modify.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one for 26 minutes and 191 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 157. This is my workout of choice when I don’t have a lot of time. I don’t have to think about anything and it’s effective. I had a doctors appointment today and the time was changed from what I had planned. It was at 1:00 instead of 10:30 which is a very inconvenient time for me. I try to schedule my appointments during the morning. It was an annual appointment with my oncologist and everything is good.

Diane Sue, great job with STS 2 Back and Biceps Mish Mosh and CDorner Full Body Mobility.

Cathy, nice job with Live To The Mat Glutes and Core. I’m sure that you will feel that one tomorrow!

Hello to Judy and Valerie.

Yesterday I did Live #366 PHA Supersets No Repeats. Today I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga.

Diane Sue-Great job with STS 2.0 Total Body Trisets: Express 2 Lower Body, CDorner Step Aerobics basic intermediate, STS 2.0 Back and Biceps Mish Mosh 1 and the Mobility Challenge.

Cathy-Great job with your step routine and Live To the Mat Glutes and Core. I need to revisit the Live To the Mat. That was a good one. Michigan is getting snow a little early this year. It got cold so fast too. I’m not quite ready for winter but here it is. It sounds like Tux is slowly getting adjusted.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one. I always try to schedule my doctor appointments in the morning too. It’s frustrating when they change appointment times on you.

Hi to Valerie

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body for 35 minutes and 160 calories burned. My average heart rate was 114 and maximum heart rate was 135.

Judy, nice work doing Live PHA Supersets, 45 minute Peloton ride, and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga. Fortunately for me my oncology appointment next year is back to my usual time.

Hello to Cathy, Diane Sue, and Valerie.

Today I got up early to get in a workout before workers came. I did STS 2 mish mosh #1 chest and triceps, 36 minutes, heart rate 92/124, 90 calories. I also did CDorner mobility challenge day 18 shoulders and chest which I really liked, and day 19 warm up your body mobility flow, 24 minutes for both, 42 calories, heart rate 80/102. Total time was 60 minutes, 132 calories today. The upper body mish mosh workouts are formatted as one being alternating between the two parts and the other doing all one body part followed by the other. I just realized that when I looked them over. There is a long rest between exercises to stretch and set up. The pulmonology office called and the test results were negative so no bacteria or fungal thing in the lung. I have an appointment the 14th.

Cathy, nice work on the Live to the mat workout. I am not usually a fan of mat workouts even though they can leave my hips and legs sore afterward. I think because they are usually high reps and even in weight work I don't like to do them. I did read though on the in a Massachusetts General Hospital Physical therapy center sheet that high reps done slowly is the best way to return to weightlifting because you cannot lift as heavy and reinjure. I keep their guidelines on hand for what not to do with shoulders and suggestions.
Funny about getting Tux to use the pet door. It took me a while to get our dog to use one. She was used to telling us to let her out. We had to coax with treats. She did not like it slapping her in the face. She finally learned to duck her head first. My son's dog took forever to learn because he only used it here. We watch him occasionally when they travel. Although they got a travel trailer and he now goes with them. I do not like winter all that much. It is warming up to 60 today and the sun is out. They came out to winterize our sprinkler system this morning.

Carolyn, nice job on KCM Cardio Quick Fix yesterday and P30 Pump Lower Body today. I like all of my appointments in the mornings. Fortunately I have not had any changed other than when I do it myself. I am glad that your appointment went well and everything was good.

Judy, nice job on Live #366 PHA supersets no repeats and today's Peloton ride and yin yoga.

Valerie, hoping things are going as they should.

Shopped yesterday so no workout. This morning I did Live Core Flow Express. It's actually stretching and core continually intermixed. I really liked it. Good for a short workout and the core was not easy, so I was glad to have the stretching.

Diane Sue nice job with STS 2 mish mosh #1 chest and triceps and the mobility workout. Tux is getting much more proficient coming in the pet door but it still takes him a few tries. He's gone out once by himself but since then when he goes over there, I've had to show him to push his head against it. When he uses his paw he wants to pull it towards him, which does not work at all. It's actually 6-8" deep and then really don't like that but it's an outside wall. While they use it, they clearly aren't fans. Even the ones who have been using it for years.

Carolyn great job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix and P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body.

Judy nice job with Live #366 PHA Supersets No Repeats, Peloton ride and yoga.
