Good morning,

Back from an agility trial in Erie, Pa. We had a great time, earned an Excellent title, and the first leg of her Masters title in one of the events. No workouts, but I did get
16, 173 steps in Friday, and 14, 215 in yesterday. :)

Judy, a good time for the shorter work schedule, when it is getting colder and sometimes not good weather to have to go out in. Great results from that test. When I had a mini angiogram a while back ( checked my heart etc when I had terrible pains, it ended up being reflux) I had similar results, with 0 being the best and 5 being the worst, I had a zero as well. This with cholesterol over 300. That is partly why my GP does not push statins on me either.

Diane Sue, good that you have the "good" moves down and they are helping.

Lori, so sorry for your loss of your friend. Was he ill? I know you were very close to Madeline and her family.

Carolyn, sorry for your loss....so senseless.. Safe travels.

Valerie, that is too bad that your sister is even resisting more. You may need to write her a letter, put it all out there, with instructions, expectations on the phone situation etc. If she doesn't at least compromise and do something to make a change, you may have to just cut her off for a while. That sounds harsh, but she does not seem to want to help herself at all.

Take care,

Deb sounds like your exercise requirements were well covered. congrats to you and Kylee!.

we did our drive back yesterday. a long day, 10 hrs 45 min plus unloading. first half of drive was benign, the second half was rainy, snowing some with the worst weather the last 2 hours. heavy traffic with people driving too fast for conditions. whatever. we got back OK.

I've heard people don't change with age... they just get more like they were to begin with. definitely the case with my sister. she always was disagreeable, stubborn, belligerent. why wouldn't she learn this for her own safety? if there's ever a problem... only way to get help is call yourself. I always take my phone. Don't we all? I expect this stalemate will continue. its a smart phone, but all I am asking is make /receive calls and voice mail. texting would be nice too but geez, one small step at a time. forget the "smart phone " part. that is a bridge too far.

need to grocery shop today and get in a workout after sitting all day yesterday.

Today I wanted to get in a bit of a workout. I have PT two mornings early this week and ladies game day gathering on Tuesday morning. Also am picking up my grandson on Friday as he gets out of school early and this is across town and I have not driven there myself yet and do not know the area. I will leave at least an hour early. So, anyway, I did a few PT exercises and stretches followed by Jessica Smith Walk Strong have a ball. That was 33 minutes, 185 calories, heart rate average 129, max 161. We had family brunch after church today. I decided to have salad this evening after having an enchilada and chips and queso for lunch.

Deb, that is great that the agility trials went so well. You got a lot of steps in :)

Valerie, glad you made it home. I suppose you won't change your sister. I was just hoping maybe she would get desperate enough to maybe consider trying the phone. That is so crazy.

Good morning,

Today I did part of ICE Low Impact Sweat. 24 minutes, 141 calories. I was actually looking for the cardio that has the 2 different workouts, one with weights and one without. it's workout #2 that uses light dumbells. Anyone remember what series that is?

Valerie, maybe you should have gotten her a flip phone, but then you would not have been able to text her,...but at least she may have tried to use the phone. Scary about the second half of your ride with bad weather etc. That would be nerve wracking for me!

Diane Sue, nice job with the PT exercises and JS workout. :)

Hi to Lori, Judy & Carolyn

Take care,

I am released from physical therapy. We went over everything and she put me through some strength based moves and worked out a few kinks in my neck and trap area. She said I could gradually work back into my workouts and that what I was doing is good when I told her about the JS workouts I am using. She said I should try concentrating a bit of work into my upper back as I tolerate it. I am going to go workout here in a bit and add a few extra stretches. It rained and hailed last night. Leaves and a few branches lying around this morning. Funny the weather report this morning said we did not get any rain. I don't know what part of the city they were talking about. I was glad my husband had just maneuvered the Harley in the garage so we could fit my car in. I just have to be careful when I park, as it is in front of my car and I have about 8 inches in front of me before I hit the bags on it.

Deb, are you thinking of Ripped with Hiit Low Impact? One of those uses dumbbells and the other does not.

for some reason a post I typed on the phone will not post.
yesterday I did 35 on the elliptical and the abs from TBM.

Deb I shopped for a flip phone before she got the free phone/ service thru Medicaid. I didn't find a phone where you can buy minutes without a monthly contract. that's what I wanted.... never thought she would use this much. I looked at stores we had in common.... Target. then she was given the phone and air time , free as part of her benefits, so I dropped the idea. I asked her if she could get a flip phone instead, but it sounds like no. its an Alcatel Raven. not exactly an iPhone X but would not matter in her case. I'd be even madder if I paid for it every month. she acts like I'm asking her to run a nuclear reactor. I haven't heard from her for a while now so may be she is working on it. ( ha ha ha)

yes, the last part of the drive was ugly. it was Saturday afternoon, and traffic was heavy. people are so careless. when there is heavy rain/snow, and slush/water on the road, they are driving 70 and cutting in and out. stupid! I guess they all have to crash before they learn. DH makes me nervous because he follows way too closely. when you get to rural areas especially, people entering the freeway don't know how to merge. it's as if they don't teach in driving school that it is the merging driver who has to fit into ongoing traffic. they pull on and never even LOOK. especially with the heavy interstate truck traffic, it makes the trucks move over constantly. very dangerous for no reason except ignorance. so done complaining for the day......

Good Afternoon. We are back home now. It was an exhausting weekend. I was worried that we would have a lot of turbulence on the flight, but it wasn’t too bad. That storm and tornado that hit Dallas was moving east and there was so much rain and lightning around 6:00 this morning. Fortunately it stopped before our flight time.

Diane Sue, that’s great that you are released from physical therapy. It does seem that you have gotten as much benefit from it as you could. The rest just takes time.

Deb, I think Diane Sue is right about the workout that you were looking for. RWH Low Impact HiiT Two uses light weights.

Hello to Valerie, Judy,and Lori.

So, this afternoon I did Cathe Lite Body weight and Bands skipping the shoulder segments. Seriously, I don't think my bands or tubing would stretch far enough for overhead stuff anyway. I want to concentrate on the areas that are lacking more. That was 40 minutes, 192 calories, met 5.4 I also did Jane Adams 7 yoga practices for your day core flexibility, 34 minutes, 52 calories. Total time was 74 minutes, 244 calories. I also did a few extra moves from my PT exercises.

Carolyn, I told her I was thinking the same thing when I went in. She is needing to do very little hands on the last two visits and that was just working out some of the knots, which there are not many now. I am glad that your flight went alright.

Valerie, it would be nice if she was working on using her phone. Even small children can pretty much figure out cell phones. People always seem to be in such a hurry on the roads bad weather or not.

diane sue, hope your hard work on PT will give you good long term results. yes, even children, or her cat, could do it by now. I am not a genius with technology so I understand being unsure and a little shaky but you just keep working at it, step by step. How else do you ever get past something you don't understand?

I did the same thing again, 35 min on the elliptical, the TBM abs, and 40 knee push ups. the machine read out shows 350 calories for 30 min, 3500 steps, that seems like overly optimistic but it is arms and legs and I clip along quickly. lots of walking while shopping, PO twice and other assorted errands. rained all day, nasty ugly day, wet and crummy. some years October is lovely not this year.

This morning I did Afterburn for 56 minutes and 333 calories burned. My average heart rate was 123 and maximum heart rate was 152. It felt good to get back to my workout schedule.

Waving hello to everyone and have a great day.

Busy errand day with shopping and projects. Did stacked upper body while dinner was in the oven.
next week I will be with friends in AZ. They have a gym available so hopefully I can get in a workout-or two. They don’t hike or ride so not sure what I can do but will need something can’t sit on my butt for an entire week

This morning I did WS3 Cardio Step Jam for 32 minutes and 251 calories burned. Average heart rate was 135 and maximum heart rate was 160.

Valerie, I find it to be very difficult with food and activity when I am out of my environment. At least your friend has a gym. Both of our families eat very differently from us, so food is challenging. They definitely don’t have exercise equipment!

Diane Sue, I hope that you enjoyed your Ladies game day.

Hello to Judy, Deb, and Lori. Have a wonderful day everyone.

There’s a community gym for a small fee. My friend never uses it. we will be eating out for all meals except breakfast . This is so weird for me! I rarely eat out usually don't enjoy much when I do. a week of this will be really hard. One person has some heart/lung problems so can’t do anything very physical and that is all I ever do on vacation, so this will be very weird . We usually camp and hike and ride and would never go to a theme park. this is probably more like a vacation many people do, but it feels incredibly awkward to me. I bring food that is made or ready to put together so I never have to deal with restaurants. maybe I will lose a few pounds? Carolyn, it always makes me feel off base. people never have the things I have in my frig and cabinets.

Today I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong and Have Fun: Steady Ready Go, 31 minutes, heart rate 143 average, 167 max, 3,192 steps, 208 calories. I then did Walk Strong Build Balance Inner Strength, 31 minutes, heart rate average 123, max 157, 152 calories, 1,531 steps. I finished off with 50 minutes of PT strength exercises, Yoga Tune Up upper body upper back segment, Jessica Smith YouTube stretch for stress, 101 calories, 233 steps.
Total time was 1 hour 54 minutes, 461 calories, 4,956 steps.

Valerie, I always am wary if something gives me over 275 calories for 30 minutes. I just seem to average anywhere from 175 to 275 with 275 being a very intense workout. But, we are all different.
I do not like eating out that much. Once in awhile is enough, and I prefer places where I know the menu and can make better choices. Good luck with the eating and getting in some workouts. Your sister needs to realize that if she makes a mistake with the phone, so what! Just try. She isn't going to break it and if she messed it up, she wouldn't be any worse off than she is now.

Carolyn, nice work with JS. I would like to get more of her workouts. I am enjoying the ones that I have been able to download and stream from Amazon Prime Video. Ladies game day was fun. We played Mexican Train with dominoes. I had no idea there were other sets of dominoes other than the plain ones that I have had around since I was a kid. They come up with some interesting games. Some homemade style games with boards with colors and pegs etc. and we using playing card. I can't remember all of the game names, but it is quite interesting and fun. A favorite seems to be golf with playing cards.

I never can tell with the elliptical... it seems to over estimate calorie burn but I think the steps are accurate. I lie to the machine too, I tell it I am 43 yo or else the ranges are all pathetically low. maybe that amps up the calorie burn?

I did Rev'd up rumble, and 6 pk abs today. 40 knee push ups.

I went over this for about the 50th time with her... she has a land line. I said, use it to call the cell phone, so you see what a call looks like, and then use the cell to call the landline. do the same with messages. nobody can see you do stupid things, nobody cares, doesn't cost anything, all in your living room. just play with it. free practice time. she got a manual with the phone too. I cant believe how many times I told her to do this, and it seems so obvious this is how to learn. have not gotten a call in almost a week. my good fortune probably won't continue.

Valerie, I lie to things as well, because they seem to think that since we are older our capabilities are like the average older person. I find it annoying. Nice she got a manual with her phone. Most require you to get the manual on the internet. You just get a basic breakdown on getting started.

she told me she got some booklet with the phone. hard to tell with her. I downloaded a guide and printed some for myself thinking it would be useful. I usually go to the quick start guide, play with the device, and then go back and look for specifics.

I did the set up on the elliptical long ago, but software gave my target range too low. no way to adjust so I adjusted my age instead. so I'm still 43! what a great deal! Highly recommend! I don't use most of the info since I seldom use a HRM except on the spin bike. the calorie burn has always been suspiciously high.

since I have been dealing with sisters issues, I notice even more how computers, internet and cell phones dominate our culture. you are trapped in the past if you don't have some knowledge. even homeless people and hungry people always have phones and use them.

going to road ride today after it warms up a bit.

My workout today was ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast which was 49 minutes and 316 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 162.

Diane Sue, the Jessica Smith WS3 series is a good one, but it is expensive on Amazon. I can’t remember what I paid for it, but definitely not that much.

Valerie, you are right about the foods that other people keep on hand. There are some things that are pantry staples for me, but nonexistent in my siblings’ homes. I usually go to the store as soon as I get to town to stock up on basics for us, but this trip was different. On the upside, I lost a pound last week!

Hello to Deb, Judy, and Lori.

We mt biked instead, for 1 hr 35 since it didn't seem to be clearing. we only have a few more days to ride trails before they close for the season. preventing riding in muck prevents making it into huge deep ruts and potholes.

carolyn, so true. I always have supplies to get meals we both will eat. at my sister or brother's I would end up fasting. no overlap at all. I'm sure they say the same about me. its the same at husbands family. they have nothing we eat, and its hard to find anything here to feed them.

Today I did Jessica Smith You Tube Step and Stride, 40 minutes(36 actual but I started it and got the wrong workout) 250 calories, 136 average heart rate, 169 max, 3,656 steps. I like her step work so far. Pretty simple and non complicated and low impact. She uses the high step with both of the workouts I have done, with instructions to just turn the step bench and work off the end if you have a full size step. I then did Coffey Fit Raw tubing works skipping the shoulders, 36 minutes, 126 calories, met 5.0, 476 steps, heart rate average 97, max 136. I finished with PT exercises, a few lower stretches, and Yoga Tune Up Upper, neck segment, 40 minutes, 89 calories2.5 met, 78 steps. Total time was 1 hour 56 minutes, 465 calories, 4,210 step.

Carolyn, I put Jessica Smith WS 3 in my wish list on Amazon, and yes it is expensive. It is the same price on Jessica Smith's website as well. I think it was somewhere around 80 dollars.
