Valerie-Nice job with the hike. I have a small paper calendar that I use for planning appointments and my work schedule. I put appointments in the phone calendar too but I still like being able to look at them on paper.

Cathy-Great job with STS 2 Body Parts Back and Biceps. I don't like to take OTC sleep aids but they usually work when I do.

Carolyn-Chicken and barley soup sounds wonderful!

Diane Sue-Great job with CDorner Step Aerobics, STS Mobility 2 and Foam Rolling. I'm going to try the Ashwagandha & L Theanine supplement. Ashwagandha has worked for me but I don't take it regularly. Melatonin is hit or miss for me. Sometimes it helps with sleep but I feel groggy the next day. Other times it doesn't seem to do anything.

I like to see "big picture" for appointments . never been able to get the phone calendars to show things effectively. I use them but the paper one is still better and easier to open and look at several months at a time. for a few $$ a year I keep it in my sling bag and can glance at the month or the year easily.

I wish I didnt need sleep help but I do. melatonin doesn't do anything for me. benadryl makes my mouth dry. this pending surgery is the kind of thing that will ruin my sleep for many nights. some days I get triggered, after talking about it, and wake up unable to sleep. those nights a half ambien usually works. other days I can do the same thing and not have any issues so I do not take it unless I need to. I dont want to take things all the time expecting an issue. I want something that will work then, not something I take every day.

I love barley in soup. a favorite ingredient. farro also is good but barley is easier to find and much less expensive.

Today was yoga for 20 minutes. The soup was delicious! I had a sad rotisserie chicken that was a bit tasteless but it was just right for the soup. I made my own stock from chicken bones from my freezer for the good simmered flavor. Whenever I cook bone-in chicken parts or roast a whole chicken I freeze the bones in a freezer bag until I want to make chicken stock.

Judy, thanks for starting us off this week.

Valerie, I like barley quite a bit, although I only started eating it a few years ago. Farro is my favorite, but it’s not available at every store. Rustichella d’ambru is the brand that I prefer and I can get that at The Fresh Market. Sometimes I buy Bobs Red Mill from a store that carries a lot of that brand.

Cathy, great job with Body Parts Legs and Shoulders. You are having a lot of near skunk encounters lately!

Hello to Diane Sue.

Today was a rest day. I will do something in the morning since Tuesday I host my ladies group game day and Wednesday I go to see my arthritis doctor.

Judy, I take my magnesium at night with the Ashwagandha and L Theanine to help relax. It works for me most of the time. Too much melotonin can give me nightmares.

Valerie, sleep is so important. I have tried different things and what I use now has worked pretty well for me for several years.

Carolyn, nice work on getting in your 20 minute yoga. CDorner has been working on yoga/mobility workouts that are 8 to 20 minutes and is going to do a 30 day challenge around the middle of the month. I am looking forward to it as I like the way she does them.

did some vigorous gardening for several hours yesterday. we had a sunny day but the ground is still moist enough to pull weeds and transplant things. DH did a huge amount while I did what i could. I need to wear a back brace all the time doing this. my back muscles contract trying to keep things straight, something they cant do anymore, giving me a backache. the brace takes over some of the back support work and it helps give the muscles a break. did my therapy work later on.
I planted a ground cover in our newest garden beds and it was growing WAY too well and had to be removed. didn't grow like that elsewhere but does not work in this spot. I cant say how much I hope this surgery helps improve things.

caroline I often get Anthony brand of farro from amazon. have also used Bobs red mill and Alessi. the last two are sometimes here locally sometimes. QFC(Kroger) has a poor selection of grains. when I do a lot of grain salads in summer I use amazon. it's predictable. so annoying to expect to find it and find the shelf spot empty. I get a big bag( huge) of quinoa at costco every year to avoid that. groceries never run out of shelf space for a new variety of snack chips. Ive had an awful time finding nonfat milk lately. got it at costco for ages and suddenly nobody has much, and whats left is short dated.

I'm so tired of hearing about supply chain issues as an excuse. we have gone to lowes dozens of times to get a particular thing, like the right size furnace filter. they don't carry at all or are out of it. it's hard not to dispense with the shopping trip altogether and just order from amazon. I try to buy locally but how many times I put farro on the shopping list, not find it, and then order it from the place that will always have it? I use 2 large groceries and costco and we still end up with an amazon delivery several times a week. try to do the right thing and support local business.

This morning I did Low Impact Sweat One for 28 minutes and 165 calories burned. Average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 159. Then I did Jane Adams Evening Practice for 29 minutes and 35 calories. This practice gives me a really good lower body stretch especially my tight hips. She holds the poses longer, similar to Yin Yoga, but not as long.

Diane Sue, I hope that you had a good rest day.

Valerie, it’s good that your surgery date is not too far off now. I’m glad that the back brace helps. I find that most stores here stock the most commonly purchased items and fewer of what they call “specialty products“. For my local stores farro and quinoa seem to fall in that category. Kroger’s used to have a better selection but the took out the “health food “ section and placed everything on the general shelves. They don’t give much shelf space to those items. Sprouts and The Fresh Market have more of the speciality and sometimes gourmet items.

Hello to Cathy and Judy. Have a great day everyone.

carolyn whole foods, sprouts, etc are a very very long trek for me. I have no clue why this area has no stores like that. I was at Kroger (QFC) this morning and needed yeast. on the highest shelf. no way in hell could I reach it. lucky for me the check out line was so long that people were backed up down that aisle. a tall guy in line was able to grab a packet for me. now why would yeast be so hard to reach, ever?
anyway, their grain section is usually crummy, and because they spread products out in several places. rather than group them together. I think their stock arrangement is not intuitive at all. maybe its somewhere else that I never saw.

Apparently, my brain needs a long break. I put my Sunday post on Saturday. So here's that:
Just finished doing Body Parts Legs and Shoulders no repeats premix. Normally, I don't have an issue with that leg workout, but today one round was plenty for some reason. Yesterday I got a late, I forgot to ask if you could let the dogs out a couple times plea from the neighbor. LOL Surprise birthday for the spouse over by Lake Michigan. It's not a big deal as neither or the dogs want to stay out these days so it takes less than 10 minutes, but when I went over right before bed, there was a strong skunk smell around the back door/garage area and that's the door we use. No way did I want to deal with skunked dog, especially Goldens with all their fur! No leashes around the back area but they each have to collars. One for the electric fence and another when they take them away from home with their ID tags. So I put on one collar and looped the other through so I had a handle and took them out one at a time. Talking to them/the skunk and generally not being quiet in hopes it moved on. Fortunately both were happy to just go and then head back inside. Earlier in the day, I'd tried to walk, but our back right corner had clearly been visited recently by a skunk so I abandoned that plan. Not sure if there's more than one or just one that really gets around. I've actually seen two different ones, very distinctly different white patterns, so there's probably still two around. They aren't really an issue with the cats, but dogs are a whole different thing.

Valerie that's sounds like a hike with great views! Yeah it sounds like it was the lug nuts being stubborn. He has a root canal in the morning and then will hopefully go find a tire place to get it fixed. The guy who came out said there's nothing wrong with the tire. Whole thing was really weird. Maybe a valve issue.

Diane Sue sometimes a workout just doesn't work and you have to switch gears.

Carolyn it's definitely the time of year for soup, though I tend to be a soup person year round. I made chili last night and tonight I'm planning to do a 15 bean soup. Great job with Low Impact Sweat One and yoga.

Yesterday I went to the zoo and then went to visit my parents.

This morning I did STS 2 Parts Chest and Triceps. All the combo premix does is do one all the way through and then the other, so I did all of chest and then no repeats on triceps. And then...

remember the conversation about remembering appointments? Well I had just gotten done with my workout when I got a call from my dentist office saying they had me down for an appointment this morning. I had it firmly in my head that it was tomorrow and that tomorrow was the 10th. I also, wrote down 10/9 for every exercise I did this morning. So now I have an appointment for 8:40 tomorrow morning.(insert smack my face emoji) And bonus it was correct on both my calendars, but I hadn't flipped the week on my Fitness Calendar and my purse was laying on my regular one. UGH

Valerie there seem to be a lot of things I need that are on the top shelf. If there's someone around I'll them to get it otherwise I'll just step on the first shelf and occasionally the second to grab things. There are some things I buy frequently that are high up and some of them are popular items so it makes no sense. I do draw the line at glass stuff on the top shelf though, and why would they put glass jars that high anyway.

Yesterday I did 40 minutes of Peloton rowing and 20 minutes of Peloton strength work. Today did 40 minute of Peloton rides, 10 minutes of Peloton Arms & Light weights, 5 minutes of core work and a 10 minute stretch.

Carolyn-Great job with Yoga, Low Impact Sweat One and Jane Adams Evening Practice. Kroger here is the same. They had a nice health food section at one point but did away with it and while they do carry healthier brands, they are mixed in with everything else.

Diane Sue- I hope you had a good rest day. The game day sounds like fun.

Valerie-Great job with the gardening. That is definitely a workout.

Cathy-Great job with Body Parts Legs and Shoulders no repeats premix and STS 2 Parts Chest and Triceps.

I just moved my surgery date up to the 31st. I am so uncomfortable and they had a week earlier opening.

cathy I agree, I step on the first shelf if I can but this was too high even for that, plus due to not enough checkers, there was a line of people in front of everything. My SIL takes a long handled grabber device shopping all the time to reach things. she's shorter and has really short arms besides. it seems like all the mid level shelves are filled with things I dont use, and what I want is either on the floor level or the skyscraper level. this QFC has especially high shelves and seems to put overstock up there. this time I could not find a lower shelf with yeast on it. agree on the glass things. a mess if you knock an extra one down so i get someone to grab it for me.

skunked dogs. omg. does bathing in tomato juice work? I remember reading that but we dont have many skunks here and never needed it. mostly I smell them on the highways after they've been run over. MT has a lot of them, and DH and I had the meet-up with one a couple years ago mt biking. the only alive skink Ive ever seen. it's a hard odor to ignore. dogs would be unwelcome smelling like that.

I have reversed month / day number plenty of times, or written right day in the wrong month. there are so many reminders now that its getting easy to not paying attention at all and then get surprised.

QFC used to have a nice aisle with grains nuts seeds in bulk vertical chutes. they eliminated that and now have pre filled containers instead, but a lot of things were dropped completely. its not my favorite store. they are constantly doing "re-sets" where everything gets moved around. like in the snack aisle. I have baked chips I like but its a ridiculous hide and seek game could not find them yesterday.

I did not work out today. My husband had a neurology appointment which takes up a lot of time. More tweaking of medication which is an ongoing process with Parkinson’s disease.

Hello to all and have a nice day.

Got up in time to do P30 Low Impact Hiit and STS 2 Metabolic Core. Just my cleaning and the all clear for this time on anything else. Fortunately my dentist has a very small private practice and they are chill about things like missed appointments, because they technically have a $75 missed appointment rule. Need to finish up the non weight parts of my next rotation as I'll be starting Friday.

Valerie the couple times are dog got skunked and thankfully just in a small area, I used a mix of peroxide, baking soda and dish soap. There was still a very faint smell, but you had to get real close for it to be an issue. There are things I wouldn't feel like the grabbers would be secure. I have contemplated carrying along a light ladder that would hang over the side of the cart. LOL WF Kept their top row of bulk items, but they've never returned to having the bulk spices and teas which makes me very sad because bulk spices especially are so much cheaper.

Judy great job with the Peloton rowing, rides, strength, core and stretch workouts.

Carolyn I hope your husband's appointment went well.

Hi to Diane Sue!

This morning I did JS Steady, Ready, Go which was 31 minutes and 201 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 152.

Cathy, great job with P30 Low Impact HiiT and STS 2 Metabolic Core. It good that your dentist didn’t charge you for the missed appointment. My husband’s appointment went fine. Today is a day for adjusting to the medication changes, something he doesn’t like.

Hello to Diane Sue, Valerie, and Judy.

No workout yesterday or today. We had a disaster yesterday when we were playing games and the seam of the 48 gallon aquarium split and water was flowing everywhere. I was grabbing things to catch water and the ladies were trying to rescue fish. Now all of the fish are in a bucket! Lots of work cleaning up. Today after arthritis appointment I planted a Rose of Sharon Hibiscus I got a few days ago. I was originally waiting for my husband to dig the hole, but it needed planted well before a frost. He has an appointment on his day off, so I just decided to get it done so I do not have to worry about it.

did 15 on the spin bike, therapy work, x train core and a set of upper body exercises. doing a hike tomorrow.

diane sue what a total disaster!. 48 gallons is a lot of water where it should not be. hope the fish in the bucket are adaptable. assume it takes a while to get another tank and replace all the supplies.

we have several of those hibiscus. some are small shrubs and a couple others are like trees. they are old and should be replaced. one is on a slope and keeps uprooting itself when it gets top heavy. we prune it back but it really needs to be gone. they dont grow fast here and leaf out and bloom late in the season. flowers are lovely when they bloom.

No workout today as I shopped. Finished putting in all the weight and cardio workouts on my rotation which starts tomorrow. Just need to figure out core and stretches.

Diane Sue how horrible about the aquarium. We used to have a similar sized one and I can't even imagine! Are the fish all okay?

Valerie Great job with the spin bike, therapy, core and upper body. I hope your hike today was a good one.

Carolyn nice job with JS Steady, Ready, Go.

Hi Judy!

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 53 minutes with 229 calories burned. My average heart rate was 116 and maximum heart rate was 152.

Valerie, great job with 15 minutes on the spin bike, XTrain core, upper body exercises, and therapy exercises.

Hello to Cathy, Judy, and Diane Sue.

did a hike today, 4 hours 40 minutes. it's a short steep one probably 6-7 miles round trip. switchbacks straight up and back down with little flat stretches in between the climbing sections. went with our neighbors. a long drive there and back too. lots of fall color and a bluebird day. great view spot. we could clearly see mt Baker, mt shuksan, glacier peak and mt rainier in the distance ( all the major volcanic peaks) along with all the rest of the cascade range and even the Olympics. hard but not too hard to get there.
