Good morning.

Total Body, 1 set only pre-mix done and out of the way, starting a new week and hoping to keep this up this time.

It's about 15 degrees here and snowing lightly.

Valerie, try the Smucker's All Fruit jam, it's really good. I don't think it has any artificial sweetners in it.

Joan, yeah, Vegas is not doing well overall. Old school friends of mine ( The Scintas), had an act there for many, many years, and they all of a sudden were told they had to pay all kinds of charges, for the seating, for the crews etc, which they had never had to pay for before. I think they may have forced them out, not sure. Since you have been there many times, you may have seen them.

Lots of HouseMax to finish today, before the start of the week,

Take care,

Congrats Deb for getting back on the horse, so to speak. I did disk 27 yesterday, plus core max 2. rode the stationary bike for 15 as a warm up and then did the disk warm up. not sure what to do today, other than an hour of cardio.

it's about 35 with about 2 inches of fresh wet gloppy snow. we need to scrape off the driveway if it doesn't melt. it will be getting much colder by tomorrow and will freeze in place. our driveway is steep, we work hard to keep it from icing up.

I bought vanilla almond milk which has slight sweetness to it at only 90 calories. I used that plus a little agave and it was good. I don't have a issue with sugar or other "real" sweeteners... other than the calories that I'd like to cut for now. I like honey too but it crystallizes easily while agave doesn't. I have lots of homemade jam ( from friends) and will give that a try. It's not as sweet as commercial jams are. I'm surely using 100 cal worth of agave on my cereal cause it's so easy to squirt it on and it kind of dissolves into the oats. I also have some sugar in the raw which may work since the crystals stay somewhat intact and don't dissolve. .

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, and Valerie--

This morning I did P-57, vol. 2 (57 min.).

Deb, you are an enabler! I did decide to preorder those two KCM workouts. I really like her cardio, especially if I can only do her modifier for low impact. I can do most of her impact, but not all, and it's just so nice to have someone doing those modifications.

Went to see True Grit. A pretty good film, but much darker than the John Wayne one. Probably more realistic given the violence of the old west. Maybe I should add the new west here given the recent killings in Arizona. Very depressing. Any nut can buy a gun it seems.

Welcome back, Joan! So, what did you eat in Vegas that really put you over the top?

Hope you feel better soon, Josie!

Garance Part of the problem is we booked two rooms over New Year's because they give me presents. Tropicana had a gift basket filled with wine, crackers, cheese and a ton of GOOD chocolate. I could skip the wine but chocolate-never. The Riviera had a gift basket also with wine, cheese and crackers, chocolate and 5 pieces of fruit. They also gave me a digital camcorder. The rest of the food was unremarkable for the most part. Not much in desserts but just a little too big of a portion. I did find one new (to me) restaurant at Riviera that served a chicken breast plain. I did get the red pepper sauce on the side and it was wonderful. The yam would also have been on program except for the brown sugar and nuts.

I think my main problem was not getting in my 3 miles of extra walking a day.

Joan

howdy ladies, i'm still alive. just been so busy. hope all are good, hope to be around a bit more. did not workout this weekend, had the g/kids since friday, so i'm a bit fried. gonna try to read the posts i've missed.

Monday

Good morning,

I did a chopped up Cardio Coach on the treadmill this morning, 35 minutes. My stupid iPod is repeating tracks automatically for some reason, so it was a little annoying, having to go back and try to get to the right track without falling off the treadmill....

I see there is some new stuff on the Workout manager...does anyone use this for anything other than printing out the workout cards for STS? I used to log my workouts in there, but also put them on my Cathe calendar in my workout area, so it was kind of dumb, I stopped.

Valerei, I looked for almond milk yesterday at the grocery store, they only had half gallons so I didn't get it. No way DH is going to drink that, and I didn't want to waste a half gallon if I didn't like it.

Garance, "you're welcome!" glad I could enable you! ;). I bought them for the split weight workout, they are so cheap you have to do the package deal! The Arizona situation was so awful. The news was all about the congresswoman, who is still alive, but not much on the others that died, even a 9 year old.

Joan, next time look for a treadmill in the hotel gyms...;).

Hi Cathy! Hope you had a good holiday!

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did KCM's double Bootcamp circuit (55 min.).

Joan, it sounds like they know how to lure their guests! So you actually decided to take two rooms when you only needed one because of the lavish gifts?

So Deb, you are not even going to use the cardio DVD? I know you prefer the treadmill. I guess you can sell the cardio on ebay. I am actually looking forward more to the cardio workouts, since I've been doing so much barre and pilates. Still not sure when I will start STS again.

Hi Cathy! Thought maybe you had dropped out. Welcome back!

Valerie, I just use sugar and don't feel all that guilty about it. I hate artificial sweeteners too, although every now and then I like a diet soda like Zero.

Hi Josie! Tomorrow is the startup day for you. Hope you are feeling better.

Hi Ladies,

I still have a little bit of congestion, but I was able to work out. It was fun and ended up doing a great warm up and about 150 squats an a lot of planks. I don't know what the work out for tomorrow will be, but I will keep you posted.

Welcome back Cathy!

Josie

I just finished shoveling my driveway and the neighbor's. There was about 3in so far. I didn't think I could lift the full 5-6in we are supposed to get when it is all done. I used a few calories and then came in and ate a ton of food. Joan

Good morning,

I just finished Cardio Coach # 2, 35 minutes. Still having iPod woes, I need to get the instructions out again. We got the sweetest card from our vet...the one with the Rainbow bridge story. He is so nice. He even said on there to call if we want to talk...great guy.

Garance, oh, I will use the cardio DVD from KCM, especially for variety. I think there are 2 cardio workouts on the DVD? one is some boxing, not sure about the other. I follow her forum, drop in to keep up with what she is up to. She is pretty good about giving her customers what they want. There was a vote on the forum, the split workout is what I voted for and she is doing one. That is customer "driven" as they say.

Josie, so you started that new workout/nutrition program yesterday? sounds good. Let us know what they advise for diet.

Joan, shoveling is probably the hardest thing to do, and burns the most calories, so I bet the eating didn't do too much damage. Hope your back is ok!

Hi to Valerie & Cathy!

Take care,

I will have lots of home time today, getting a section of floor installed.

I've been busy!. sunday I did 15 bike, 35 treadmill, and later disk 28, back and bicep. I increased weight in most categories. DH was home so could spot me on the chest press. I'm using my (15 lb) bar plus 45 pounds. for 7 reps it was right. I think I could go a little higher but would prefer to have a spotter in case I over estimate. yesterday we went xc skiing for 3.5 hours. conditions were variable. some very nice parts and some that were too thin and we had to walk 50 yards. but a good chunk of exercise.

Shoveling is excellent exercise. Definitely subs for lifting! Joan, we do the same thing. easier to do it twice with less snow, especially if it's heavy wet snow which is what we usually get. definitely not "powder".

everyone.. . have you EVER stayed at a hotel where the equipment works? we don't "hotel- it" often. they'll have a room full of gear that looks good, but when you try to use it, it doesn't work. or it works 5 minutes and stops. or is so herky-jerky it's a chore to use. I've complained but they know you're leaving in a day or two and I don't think anything gets fixed. In a place like Vegas where hotels compete with each other for the tourist dollar, are conditions better? we stay in less touristy places, like Fresno, and have been disappointed every time. learned not to count on the gym and bring running shoes and sweats for outdoor.

Deb, I think you'd like almond milk. it's very nice on cereal and less watery than reg non fat milk. I like regular nonfat, this is just for variety. I get almond low fat vanilla. it has more flavor than reg skim milk and about the same calories and calcium. price-wise it's more than dairy milk but not ridiculous. Now, soy milk is another animal entirely. not fond of it. smells and tastes bean-y to me, and I don't care for that on cereal. I eat loads of beans otherwise but have never warmed up to soy milk and I have no need to avoid reg dairy products. Rice milk is OK too. you can get smaller quart size shelf stable cartons in the natural foods section on the shelf rather than the frig. the dating is usually good. there are a lot of lactose intolerant people out there so it's a pretty big user group.

Yes, Hi Cathy. Long time no post!
Lynda, I will take one more shot at equal or sweet & low. I'd like to trim the cereal calories but maybe will just do what you're doing, or try jam like Deb mentioned.

If Deb is going to wreck my excuses . The gym at Flamingo is actually quite good. Dh used it:eek:. The one at Tropicana wasn't too bad but they are redoing everything there.

Joan

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Zumba Cardio Party (46 min.).

This afternoon I will be watching Magnolia because one of my students selected it for his favorite director Paul T. Anderson. Gosh I am not looking forward to this. It's 188 min. long. Ugh!

Deb, I like all the premixes on KCM's dvds, so I can either do half cardio with a weight workout or double cardio alone. That was so thoughtful and nice of your vet.

Joan, we are expecting 9-15 inches tomorrow. Would you like to come shovel? Max will play with you. DH does all our snow removal, which is great for me, although I probably should welcome the opportunity to exercise.

Josie--just planks and squats?? Where's the fun factor in that?

Valerie, you would love all the powdery snow we get here for skiing. Xcountry used to be fun, but my knees are too unstable these days. Same thing with those sliding paper plates in STS, which is why I no longer do those leg workouts.

Hi Cathy!

Garance No thanks I have enough shoveling. I went out this morning and got mine and part of the neighbors finished. I stopped when I realized my face was burning. I forgot much of my face is already raw. I don't need frostbite.

Joan

awww, it's nice to be missed. thanks, ya'll:)
. 'bout to freeze down here in texas. toooo cold for me. gonna be in the 20's tonite. i am doing mostly tracie workouts this month, and tried to do the new firm zero in ten, but the 1st two dvd's i got had bad problems, so, today i got my 3rd one and it seems to be working, so gonna try it tomorrow
just don't think i can see the new true grit. NO ONE can be "the DUKE" and, i am not fond of many of the new movies that come out today.

I've finally decided on a wo rotation for the next 4 to 6 weeks. I will do 2 full body wo a week- Push Pull and Supersets. I will continue to do 3 miles of walking a week.

I just finished Push Pull. One down and eleven to go. It doesn't seem that bad if you look at it only being 12 days in 6 weeks.

Joan

Wednesday

Good morning,

I had a good nights sleep, turned off the alarm and kept on sleeping. I guess I will only do 3 cardio days this week instead of 4. We got a lot of snow last night, Joan would get a good workout here! :D.

Valerie, Good job on upping the weights! most all of the hotels I stay at have ok gyms with equipment that works. I really just want a decent treadmill when I'm travelling. I will pick up some almond milk when I can find a store with a quart size. Another thing I put in oatmeal is unsweetened natural applesauce, with some cinnamon. yum!

Garance, I decided that my knees cannot take lunges or those paper plate exercises in STS so I will be subbing for those. I am embarrassed to say that I have not seen any of the movies you mention here.

Cathy, let us know how those new Tracie workouts are. 20's are normal around here!

Joan, wouldn't it be 18 workouts in 6 weeks? if 2 full body and one cardio? or are you doing both the cardio and weight workouts the same day?

Stay warm!!

I usually head for the treadmill first too. I get ticked when equipment functions so poorly that it's basically not usable. but, we don't stay in motels much so it's a minor inconvenience. I'm squeamish about using equipment a large number of unknown people have used. I used to belong to a reg gym and that was a pet peeve of mine, people using equipment, sweating ALL over and never having the decency to even towel things off. I also hated to get up and dressed to drive to the gym. much prefer working out at home.

Did a pretty tough yoga class yesterday, then got my section of floor installed. did 10 bike, and 35 treadmill later. not a killer day but it was so LOUD in the basement I couldn't work out til after they were done.

I haven't bought enough almond milk to 'compare" brands but I have SILK vanilla right now and it's very pleasant. more the consistency of 2% milk, nice on oats, and 90 cal a cup. I can use less sweetener if I use this vs nonfat (cow) milk.

I'm fortunate, my knees don't bother me with any of that stuff. they aren't very flexible for yoga, but maybe that's a good thing. lotus will never be possible for me.

Trying to remember "magnolia". I know I saw it and think it had Tom Cruise. guess I wasn't real impressed either way. I'll see True Grit new version when it's on disk. John Wayne was not someone I liked on film. I found him annoying and avoided his movies so never saw the original version. sorry, Lynda, another classic spurned!

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Slim Sculpt (45 min.).

Wow, we have about a foot of snow, and it just keeps coming down. This afternoon it's Paths of Glory by Kubrick. Yes, Valerie, Tom Cruise is in Magnolia. He plays a particularly disgusting misogynist who does infomercial like sessions with men to teach them how to subjugate women.. He is estranged from his dying father (played by Jason Robards Jr.). There's a lot of self-indulgent and overdramatic acting. What jarred me again was the soundtrack, which I loathed, as I also did with There Will Be Blood by the same director, another too-long film. John Wayne is pretty good in True Grit, but I like him best in Red River (I think this is Hawks) and The Searchers, by John Ford. Not sure you will like Jeff Bridges in the Wayne role, because he just seems to deliver all of his lines with slurred speech.

Deb, what do you do to sub for some of those leg exercises? I have pretty much switched to barre and pilates workouts for legs, with the occasional BBL for legs.

Really quiet here. Hardly anyone from staff is here because of the snow.

Cathy, I heard that the only state where there was no snow today was Florida. Even some snow in the higher elevations of Hawaii. This is the snowiest winter we have had in quite awhile. Last year, almost nothing.

Hi Josie!

Deb I'm doing 3 miles each day, I posted wrong. It has become a habit and I haven't missed. I'm not doing a separate cardio dvd.

Dh called last night and said they ate dinner outside because it was so warm.:D At least the water near them has alligators and he's 20 miles from the ocean. Otherwise I would think he is on vacation.

Joan
