Good morning,

I got up early and did HIIT Upper Body Circuit...whew, that one is tough. It could almost be called a total body circuit.

I go for my interview in Canada this morning to renew my Nexus card. I let it lapse and have to go through the whole thing like it was a new application. Oh well, it will be worth it for the TSA Pre-check status on any airline. Not that I am going many places any longer.

.

Valerie, the blue tooth accessory on my new car is one of my favorite things! I never would talk on the phone while driving. Now that I have this, it is supposed to be safer, but I still only use it when necessary, never just to "chat". John and I wallpapered our front entrance way years ago, and said afterwards that this is a test for a marriage....we survived it and were still talking to each other! Never again!

Lynda, there was something in the paper this morning about your area and ice....it sounds bad...I hope they were wrong...

Have a great rest of the weekend!

Good morning Deb. Wallpaper was not a good project to start with! we wallpapered one small room and never again. it was a small bathroom and it was an unpleasant process. Paint! You are setting such a good example with your workouts these days.
we did a ride yesterday, 15 miles. it was cold. 39 when we started. temp is so variable. the trail is flat but some parts had ice , while other places were warmer. very gray and damp, not a nice day but the best one for a while.
DH checked and just on our road bikes we rode over 1300 miles last year. my odometer needed a new battery mid year so I lost my mileage, but his kept the total. mine is old and when you change out the battery you lose your numbers.

Is the Nexus card the one that lets you use the special lane at US/Canada border crossings too? That alone would be worth it. we always have food and sports gear with us so never applied as I think those things prevent using the lane.

I used to have a blue tooth ear bud for my phone but didn't like it. I hate things in my ears. somehow we never bothered with setting it up in our cars. we keep most of our phone calls directed to our home phone. the email to the smart phone only works very very sporadically. it works OK to the ipad but not the phone. maybe when we switch to an iphone we can get all the devices talking to each other predictably. we have the ipod linked to the truck now so can play music thru the car system. just didn't do it with the phone.
ETA I can't wait to hear a "real" review of Wild as Lori said. I was so hoping this would be a terrific movie but not hearing that much since the release.
Deb, how is kylee's incontinence? better? worse? when you look it up it sounds like it could still be related to crystal/stone problems.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did 68 minutes of BarreAmped Cardio.

Deb, it's mostly slush here today. If I had been out last night, I'm sure it would have been icy in spots. The weather is like a roller coaster. It may go as high as 50 today, then plunge into the teens tomorrow. Sounds like these new workouts are perfect for you.

Judy, that picture of Shadow is gorgeous. He looks very very serious. A dandy. Good for you on the new year's resolutions!

Off to see Wild this afternoon. I will let you know what I think.

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was BarreAmped Cardio fat burn premix followed up with an xtrain premix of ch,bk sh. Kept the weights short because my DH and I needed to do snowmax. We received about 3 inches of wet heavy snow. Ugh. Was so hard to move.

Valerie...wow 1300 miles. That is amazing! I would NEVER wallpaper with my DH. That is asking for a miserable time!!!!!

Lynda...we got a little more than slush. Is is suppose to warm up a bit to mid 40's then drop to the teens tonight then cold all week. We needed to get this snow of the driveway otherwise it would be all ice in no time. Can't wait to hear about Wild.

Deb...I agree that you are doing awesome with these workouts. I also think the upper body circuit is a total body workout too and really tough! For an upper body I really felt it in my legs. How is Kylee this morning?

Have a great afternoon all.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Hi Ladies,

Still not feeling 100%, maybe 80%. I plan on going for a walk tomorrow with my running partner just to start doing some kind of workout. My DD is now sick with the same flu :(

Deb, glad that you are sticking to your rotation. Our trainer is supposed to start next Tuesday. Hope that we are feeling better by then. I also have to activate my beach bootcamp Groupon that my DD gave me for my birthday, it expires February 5th.

Garance, the weather here has been very cold. We are not used to it and it has not helped with us being sick.

Hi to Valerie, Judy and Lori!

Josie

Good morning & Happy Monday! (NOT!)...

I did HIIT Circuit Lower Body this morning, premix with no blasts. I can't imagine doing this with the Blasts....
step-aerobics-1.gif

The wind is howling so loud right now....it's pretty scary. Apparently knocked out our cable connection temporarily last night. I had to reboot it this morning.

Valerie, kudos to you on the ride....I can't imagine riding 15 miles in that kind of cold weather! Yes. the Nexus card lets you use the dedicated lane at any of the Canadian border crossings, but the hook is, everyone in the car has to have the Nexus pass. You can bring stuff that you purchased, as long as you are under the time limit, and declare it. The best part is the TSA pre-check lane at the airports. Nothing like sailing right through security when there is a line of hundreds of people! :). No taking off shoes, or coat, or opening computer etc. Kylee is about the same...she pees when she is sitting, and relaxed. Not lying down or standing...very weird. It must be the position her bladder is in while sitting.

Lynda, we are having that same roller coaster weather....I just want to get though January and February without a blizzard. We had that one in November, but thankfully it did not hit the north part of the city where we are.

Lori, did you move that snow by hand or do you have a snow blower? SnowMAx for sure!

Josie, what is Beach Bootcamp? something live at a gym? Hope you are feeling better today.

Hi to Judy,

Work, then late class tonight...
Take care,

Deb, we were told if you had food/drink in the car that the nexus pass wouldn't work. much of the time we have the camper. even in the car we have lunch, snacks in our packs and extras from lunch. we decided it wouldn't be worth it. we've had issues going into Canada with food already. if you're going for a multi day trip it is crazy not to have your food packed& ready so you don't need to find a store, get specific things and then pack them, plus them being more expensive in Canada to begin with. mostly fresh fruit with pits and some vegies so I get out the "banned" list and work around it. apples for example. can't take apples into Canada.
if we were flying regularly, I'd work toward a nexus pass!

the ride was a challenging to think about but not bad once we got going. not "lovely" but not misery either. we are warm-ish and wet with a lot of rain so that was the last dry day for a bit and it was good to take advantage. you aren't cold with the right clothes. so now we have possible flooding and avalanche issues and of course threat of landslides.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Windy here but not too cold......yet!

I liked Wild quite a bit, but think it might be hard to watch for someone unfamiliar with the book. The flashbacks are very fragmentary and while I understand the logic of how they are triggered in what Cheryl is experiencing during her hike, I don't think they are transparent edits. A challenging film in many ways and about surmounting grief and loss without yielding to self-destructive anodynes like heroin and sexual promiscuity. I was also newly awakened to how dangerous the 'woman alone in unfamiliar territory' can feel. Reese Witherspoon is such an appealing actress and you can tell that she really bonded with this character/person. Overall, a B+.

Lori, you were wise to get rid of this wet snow before it freezes. Do you like BarreAmped Cardio? I think I still prefer the Bootcamp because this one has so many balance challenges for me.

Hope you feel better soon, Josie!

I had my cardiology check this morning.. no big deal at all, like I expected. a normal "all OK" check . wish I didn't have to 2x a yr but not scary.
this afternoon the mamm went OK.... there is the waiting! had to go in for 3 or 4 more views, a little more aggressive than the screening ones. then back to sit in the waiting room. then back in for another view, wow that one was an unpleasant pinch. back again to waiting room. then an ultrasound tech got me ..... at least they warm the gel these days. after 5 or so minutes of rolling over my chest, my god you feel vulnerable like that! she left to get the radiologists report and it came back OK .. I can return to 1 yr mamms.
I cannot tell you the level of relief. I will never (if possible) schedule a screening test right before the holidays because I can't explain how stressful the delay for followup was. maybe it doesn't sound like from the 23rd to the 5th wasn't long, but it was, possibly because it's a bit of time off for DH and I as we didn't have much family stuff to do this year. usually they schedule F/up right away because I think it's common to get stressed like I did.

Lynda, thanks so much for the review. I do want to see WILD. the encounters she had...some were scary creepy. some parts of the PCT are not far enough away from pavement to provide protection... anything close to the motoring public can bring in creeps easily. but then, you need re-supply locations that aren't a 40 mile walk. also some of the folks who live way out in the sticks are living away from the general populace for good reason! She was one tough lady to do what she did by herself.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did AT (56:36).

Valerie, happy for you the tests went well. I'm sure it was scary waiting for the radiologist's okay to go. I don't think I could ever go on such a long journey by myself. I would be spooked by everything. And she really started off inexperienced and made so many mistakes--her cooking fuel, her boots, her overloaded pack. I thought she should have quoted William Carlos Williams: "I learn by going where I have to go." She really needed to do this pilgrimage.

Josie, did you start with your personal trainer today? Hope you are back to 100 %.

Bone-chilling here today, but still not as bad as the Midwest.

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday was a rest day due to boss being back after a 2 week vacation. Needless to say I did not sleep well. :(

This morning I did Plyo One. Tonight I'll do the bonus abs and perhaps a little barre just to get me to 30 minutes or more. No sense getting in my workout clothes to only do the abs which is just10 minutes long!

Valerie...glad to hear all turned out fine. You must have been worried sick with all the back and forth. I agree you should schedule these after the holidays. My mamo is always mid December. Perhaps I too should rethink this and move to January. How has your shoulder been?

Lynda...thanks for the review on Wild. I may wait till this comes on DVD. I have a few movies I want to see...like the Hobbit!!!! DS wants to go with me. Between my eye thing and schedule and his schedule we have yet to go. This Saturday I am hoping is the day!!! I do like her newest DVD but I do like the Bootcamp better. I love her streaming even more.

Josie...so many people have been sick in my office with the flu. I am keeping my fingers crossed. Hope you and your DD are well and back to working out soon!

Deb....we tried to use the snowblower but it really wasn't doing much. The snow was just to wet. It was soooooo hard for us to move with our shovels. I love the circuit workouts and yes with the blasts they wipe me out. There is a thread about how hard they are when you are doing a rotation. Was good to see that everyone else is wiped after doing these as I am!

Hi to Judy!

Hi again!

Lori, I read that thread over on the newest forum, and what I sincerely don't understand is why anyone would want to sign up for "relentless and brutal" as a workout rotation. I just think it's weird....or it's my age showing. I want to enjoy my workouts, not hurt myself.

Hi Ladies,

The walk went well yesterday and we were supposed to walk this morning, but when I woke up I was so cold that I had to cancel.

Garance, I cancelled our trainer for the week. Hopefully we will be at 100% by next week.

Deb, the boot camp is on the beach next to the Santa Monica Pier. It's Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays. My DD got me a two month session.

Valerie, glad that your mammogram came back ok. I usually have all my tests in May.

Hi to Judy and Lori!

Josie

The people we hired are working in the bathroom now so I have time to fill.

Lori & Josie, the timing for my mamm didn't start so bad.... used to be Oct, then Nov. each year it had to be 365 days ahead. with holidays, weekends etc the "1 yr" gradually moves forward a few days each year until this year was dec 23rd. so I'm going to jump forward and make next year 365 plus a couple weeks and get out of the holidays. the delay was terrible. it's fine if there's no followup needed but for a mamm there's no way to assume that. at least 1 in 10 gets a recall for another look, so my recommendation would be to jump ahead past the Christmas/new years time period. fewer work days plus so many people take vacation days.

yes the back and forth .... this view, that view, and finally the ultrasound... well I was sweating like I'd done a 2 Cathe workouts!! plus up on the screen the tech is using you can see your previous views with dotted circles around a couple of specific areas. the feeling of relief when I was released was overwhelming!! plus when I went for the u/s, she started getting me positioned ( on my back) and I realized she was going for the wrong side. so I spoke up and we didn't waste anytime doing the wrong one. I also have been sensitized by my two friends struck with bad cancers this year... the pancreatic cancer person is doing really really well. the other lady I haven't heard for a while. DH really tried hard to make me feel better but worry chases logic and clear thinking out the window.

Josie all of a sudden it seems like everyone is sick. either flu or bad head colds. as I went thru my tests and offices yesterday, I swear I was the only one not coughing or blowing my nose. I tired to stay far away, washed my hands often, used sanitizer. I hope I escaped the virus onslaught. hope you are feeling 100% by next week. I see no point in working out before you are fully recovered and think it more likely sets your recovery back.
Lynda, DH and I have backpacked a lot. we never kept a tally but over the years probably at least 2000 miles. maybe more. so hard to estimate. it's what we did almost every vacation. Our packs weighed a lot. gear used to weigh a LOT more and was less effective than modern things. plus we went to remote places so no option to call for help with a cell phone. still, two people can divide gear so someone can carry cooking supplies, the other the tent. doing it by yourself like Cheryl did means you carry it all yourself.

Lori my shoulder is getting close to normal. still bothers me every night when sleeping but think it's ready to test with an easy workout. I may go back to yoga next week if a light weight workout is OK.

"relentless and brutal" sounds miserable...

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did a long Spinerval and today I did STS Meso 2 Chest, Shoulders & Triceps.

Deb-Great job with the new workouts!

Lynda-which forum has the relentless and brutal rotation?

Josie-the boot camp on the beach sounds like fun! I hope you are feeling much better soon.

Lori-I just looked at the thread about the new workouts and I agree-they are pretty tough once you start
stringing days of them together. I'm also starting to think that combining Spinervals and RWH isn't such
a great idea..My legs are killing me today, and they don't usually get this sore after a Spinerval.

Valerie-that's great news about your mammogram and your cardiologist visit!
Everyone is sick around here too. I'm hoping that DH and I can avoid getting anything.

Good morning & Happy Hump Day, or for me it's Friday!!
banana016.gif

Today I did HIIT Upper Body Circuit, but did the one without the Blasts. It was still pretty tough.

I didn't post here yesterday, our internet service was out, our phone modem died, so we needed to get a new one yesterday. It's kind of strange when the phone controls everything...the computers, iPads, home alarm system etc.

Valerie, glad all went well with the cardio check up. You are probably correct, if you are packing for some type of camping trip etc, and have food in the car, you are best not using the Nexus lane.

Lynda, did you watch Downton Abbey? I watched it on PBS last night...tonight is The Good Wife. Another thing controlled by our phone modem.....my on line TV watching! "Relentless & Brutal" is that the name of the DVD's? Sounds painful and would have a major dread factor for me....I need to go over and read that thread now.

Lori, sorry about the sleeplessness....what is it about your boss that causes that for you? I assume it's a male? I need to go find that thread on the toughness of this series...when I retire I will try one of the other rotations that uses STS or other series.....I will not mind an hour workout then!

Josie, Boot camp on a beach sounds like fun....:)

Judy, kudos to you for even thinking of doing spinning workouts in between the new HIIT ones....I feel like a wuss with the ones I do....

I am off for the next 2 days, entered Kylee in an Obedience trial tomorrow and Saturday. The vet gave her some meds that are for female incontinence...I hope they start to work by tomorrow! If she pees in the ring, I will be mortified...poor honey, she can't help it. I may still pull her from the trial, if I see she can't sit for a minute without peeing.

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Jazzercise Dance Hiit (48:00).

The thread is titled "They Mount Up" over at Cathe's Newest. It's about this new series RWH and I guess people who want to do them as a complete rotation. You read the thread, Judy. Maybe doing spinning workouts between the RWH workouts is yet another form of punishment.

Deb, I watched The Good Wife on Sunday night and recorded Downton Abbey and watched that last night. I like both of them, but DA is beginning to feel very soap opera melodramatic. Ahh, poor Kylee! Does she feel mortified too, or does she just not know what's happening?

Valerie, that sounds like a formula for high anxiety, and I suppose they all have poker faces and don't really tell you anything until the end. Cheryl had sores on her back from the weight of the backpack. Ouch!

Josie, right now anything on a beach sounds like heaven. It is freezing here and we haven't bottomed out yet on the temp.

Lori, I hope you don't catch anything. I would almost always get sick in January when the students came back from all over the country with a very active germ pool. Not anymore.

Good afternoon ladies!

No workout this morning. The rotation calls for Cross Fire and this one is too long for me in the morning so I took advantage of sleeping in and plan to this evening.

Lynda...that RWH thread is scary! I actually love the workouts. Yes they are indeed tough but doable for me. I have had to modify a couple of things due to my shoulder. I do one arm burpees using a 6 inch platform. Seems to help take some weight off my shoulders and I may not go as fast as she does in some of the moves but I keep up well enough. When I am finished I am wiped so if I am combining workouts I try and do the RWH last if I can. Westminster made the news again....a few months ago we were the town that tried to ban tobacco now there was a raid on a home that was illegally breeding dachshunds doggies. They had 68 of them outside cramped in small cages living in filth. All the dogs were taken away and brought to our local Vet for evaluation then will be put up for adoption. These people that ran this should be thrown in the exact cages in this cold and see how they like it. I hope they go to jail for years.

Judy...Spinivals and RWH would not be doable for me at all. My legs would be mush.

Deb....my boss is just a jerk. Last sunday was my 22 year anniversary with this company and this is the first time that I am miserable. He is just so full of himself I can't stand it!!! Hope Kylee does well. Poor little thing. You are doing great with the RWH. We are so used to technology when there is a glitch it drives us nuts!

Valerie...sounds like your bathroom is moving along! I am loving my new closet space. I have alittle more to do on it this weekend then going to start organizing. This little thing is huge for us!

Josie...I agree with Deb about anything on the beach is wonderful. Left my house this morning it it was 9 degrees. Ugh. Like I mentioned a few days ago....love my automatic car started! I can now never not have one. You just can't go back!

Have a great day all!!

Lori

I did 20 on the treadmill and 20 on the elliptical, and core 1. I also did some knee pushups. two sets of 10. didn't change anything really, shoulder still a little sore but no worse.

Lynda, we used to get sore shoulders but even more, the tops of our hips where the pack belt sat. it got sore from pressure, friction and sweat. gear is much lighter now but still challenging. everyone has different preferences of what's necessary. in this area (northwest), rain gear and warm clothing is more important than California. we usually don't need to carry much water. however, we were caught in intense thunder/lightning storms and downpours in CA so mountain weather is different from lower elevation and you need to be ready for everything. If everything gets soaked it's not easy and may be impossible to dry it out. a lot of the current crop of backpackers ( the "super light" enthusiasts) are IMO not traveling with enough backup gear. If nothing goes wrong they get by, but if there's a problem they can be in real trouble quickly.

Yes, none of the techs betray what they know or don't know. that is best.. the radiologist is comparing past views to present views and deciding what, if anything, is going on. so mostly they don't have enough info to know. still, I don't want to go thru this very often!.

I hope they don't ruin DA by getting too soap opera-ish!. My neighbor was saying the GW had a bunch of so-so episodes.. but not sure which season she was talking about. we are watching a good series on disk right now called "Intelligence" from 2006-07. it doesn't have subtitles as a drawback, but I follow it OK. sometimes the background music overwhelms the dialogue.

Deb, hope Kylee does well in the ring and that the meds work. Our telephone and internet come on cable ...we've had several outages lately for no reason. usually we realize it because our on line access suddenly stops. then we check the phone. we still get TV from the antenna although not as many channels so we are not totally dependent !

Good morning,

Off to the trial today, hopefully all will work out and we will qualify. It's 7 degrees here right now...bone chilling.

Lynda, I watched The Good Wife last night...I liked it a lot. So this is the exit for Kalinda I guess. She is one of the good characters...too bad she is leaving. Kylee doesn't know when she is doing that...she looks at it and up at me like "where did that come from"?

Lori, you do 1-arm Burpees??? yikes! I use the old Firm 14 inch step box for anything like that...Burpees, Mountain Climbers...etc. I gave up doing those things on the floor. So much better on a step or box, and I still feel them. So sad about those dogs. I agree with you. Those people should be put in cramped cages, outside for a few weeks.

Valerie, yes, we get all that through cable as well, and have antenna for TV. I like to watch the episodes after the fact, not "live". I got used to that when I used to tape them with a VCR. I kind of feel "trapped" when I watch anything live nowadays. Strange, I know.

Hi to Judy and Josie,

Not much else going on here....I will check back later when we get home,

Stay warm!
