Pentagenarians & Beyond W/B 1/4

did 35 on the elliptical, a premix of bi's & tris, and core 1. Felt like a decent workout. our elliptical has the arm handles so if you turn up the resistance and keep up speed, it's a great non impact workout. it's quiet enough to watch something on TV too.

I remember reading a few months ago that Kalinda was leaving the show. too bad, she created such a distinctive and unusual character. I hope that without her and will that they can keep up the interest level. the only main character I don't like is the Michael j fox one. I think TGW is my favorite series of all. I'm sure TGW older epsiodes are on Hulu. I know I've seem it as a choice, but we've usually watched them on Netflix disk. it's nice having both options.

It's nice to have some TV available. when the cable went out previously we lost TV, internet and phone. now we still have TV although not as many choices, so a minor inconvenience. of course we have the cell and if we wanted we could turn on the mobile hot spot at home and still get internet so we don't feel isolated.

I would not be very happy with 7 degrees anymore. if we go xc skiing someplace like Montana , it doesn't seem that cold because we are geared for it and expecting it. at home here, I'd be a very unhappy camper! Never gets that cold here unless you go up high in the mountains, but again, you expect it there.

there should be special punishments designed for animal abusers like that. I hate to see them get off with some fine and a wrist slap.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did the RWH workout for ch, sh, tris (39:30).

Good luck, Deb, on the trials. Yeah, I really enjoyed Kalinda too. I feel trapped, too, because if it's not DVR'd, there's the endless commercial breaks.

Lori, I can't imagine doing burpees with only one arm. I do them on the floor, but there's a lot of grunting and groaning. That's so sad about the dachshunds. I hope they all get adopted by loving owners.

Valerie, I'm sure you are super well-prepared with all your planning for any and every eventuality for camping. Cheryl had those hip sores as well. I will be interested to hear what you think of the film, given your expertise.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Taking the day off today for no particular reason, except that shopping took a long time and I didn't get anything going for dinner soon enough. I seem to be getting the dermatology issues that I had last year again. just noticed today some areas on my right hand that don't look right. Man, seems like I can't get a break lately. this time I'm eliminating hand sanitizer as DH thinks it might be some sort of contact dermatitis. I have used way less than I used to but still used a squirt when I was in a totally virus ridden area like the mammogram center on Monday. the nurse at cardiology was sniffling too. so that day I used it multiple times.

Lynda, I meant to tell you that we've been able to get Morning Joe..... I forget if I mentioned because at first we thought we could get it and then it didn't work but it is now. we get the shortened version a day later but for most covered things, it's fine. really enjoyed ( not the right word!) the coverage of the Paris killings. so awful how this new terrorism tactic seems to be spreading.

Good evening ladies!

Yesterday was crossfire but when I started it I just could not get into it. I completely forgot that it pretty much is a hiit/tabata workout. With all the RWH workouts I am doing feltnthis was overkill on my joints. I ended up just doing the low impact workout followed by xtrain's 100 rep hip thrust. Was about 30 minutes. Shorter than what I planned but ok with it.

Today was Cathe Live Low Impact hardstrikes. Love this one! Gave it my all on the heavy bag and felt great afterwards.

The past couple of days my DH has worked out with me and I love it. We each do our own thing which works for us. He was on the recumbent bike while I was hitting the heavy bag. We both enjoyed the company.

Deb...I looked at my platform I use for my burpees and it is actually a 4 inch not 6. I do not mind burpees even the one arm ones! Doing the Ruthless and T25 workouts I got used to them. I do need the extra height the platform provides otherwise I would be done in.

Lynda...when I signed on to my laptop this morning before I left the house it said it was -10 degrees!!!! I do not remember it ever being this cold. Yikes!!!! Good for you with the burpees. Sound effects or not! So glad the doggies were found before this horrible cold spell.

Valerie...rest days are always good. Oh no about your hand! I remember the issues you had last year. Do you have any left over medication that you can start using right away? Perhaps some type of prescription cream. So sad what happened over in Paris. Just terrible.

Hi to Judy and Josie!

Lori we ended up thinking I had a sensitivity reaction possibly to hand sanitizer, of all things. also I had a bad reaction to the antibiotics for the infection that I was treated for, but seems I never had. no one did a culture... complex reasons. I thought they did, but no. . the only one done was of my nose toward the end and it was totally normal. I had the torn calf muscle issues etc from the antibiotics although that's another "no way to prove" situation.

so we are hoping my hand settles down before getting worse if I use no more sanitizer. I use it all year but not often. usually only after shopping when I don't have access to soap and water, and have been touching public surfaces. I didn't use any today. but I used it multiple times Monday with the mammogram situation.
I never heard of anyone having a reaction to sanitizer. we may not know exactly, but will see if it's better tomorrow or at least not worse. It's not bad at the moment but this morning I noticed it looked exactly like last Feb. I 'm fairly observant of things like this and don't let them "go on" ignoring them. I have a dermatology appt for next Tuesday unless they have a cancellation, in which case I'll be seen sooner. if it clears without doing anything I still may keep the apt just to see if I can get some input on possible ingredients I'm sensitive to. I don't want to assume I know right now, just guessing.

oh my -10 is cold. this used to happen often in Wisconsin, not that it was pleasant but no one thought it was a big deal back then. attitudes change!

I hope as a country we show strong support for Paris! Je suis Charlie!.

Good morning,

Well we "crashed & burned" at the trial yesterday. She did not want to be there and showed it in the ring. Oh well, there is still tomorrow. We had a lot of snow last night...almost could not open the back door due to drifting. John is out there now with the snow blower.

Valerie, good job on the workout. Didn't you start watching Downton as well? I have read that using all that anti-biotic stuff actually reduces your resistance to bacteria at some point.

Lynda, at least even when watching the episodes on the computer from the website, you can pause the play and go get something to drink etc.

Lori, I guess the "brutal & relentless" description of these workouts is really true! I am doing the low impact stuff, and eliminating the "blasts" on some so I am not feeling them like others that are doing them as is. Maybe you should try doing the rotation, without any extra workouts? Yes, so good that those dogs were rescued before the cold set in.

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

I am off today, hair cut /color this morning, if I can get there and if my hair person makes it in as well!

Stay warm!

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did low impact hiit 1 with core 1 (about 35 minutes).

Deb, maybe Kylee will have her game face for tomorrow. We had a couple inches of snow, but it's sunny now and not nearly so cold. Now the 20s feel balmy compared to the Arctic blast of the last few days. I'm not absolutely certain Kalinda will just leave. Too many threads still to be tied up.

Lori, I don't think it was quite that cold here. More like 7 degrees. I remember those below zero temps though, growing up in Minnesota. Great that you have your DH working out now. Maybe it will be part of a whole new regimen for him. I think you work out hard enough that you don't have to sign on for "relentless and brutal."

Valerie, you have definitely had your share of medical issues lately. Hope your dermatitis is just caused by overuse of hand sanitizer.

I just finished watching the end of the hostage crisis in France on MSNBC. I don't know what to make of it. A lot of discussion of French intolerance for their Muslim population. They won't let Muslim school girls wear the chador, nor permit Muslim women to have any public photos (passports, licenses) or be in public places with the chador. The cartoons were apparently so provocative American newspapers refused to reprint them. On the other hand, if you cannot assimilate to a secular culture (especially France with its long tradition of political satire--Daumier) and decide to disrupt its functioning with murder and mayhem, then maybe you should return to your own home. We don't need another epoch of religious wars like the Reformation.

Might go see Force Majeure this weekend. Very good reviews for this one.

I've looked up hand sanitizer. it's felt to be much less hard on skin than soap and water. according to a lot of people, anyway. maybe there's some chemical I react badly to. I've been so careful this year about washing and drying my hands and have used sanitizer only after shopping and medical appts, when there is no access to washing. It's about the same today. I've used sanitizer all year this way without a problem and now suddenly an issue.

I am unclear why there is such a large Muslim population in France if the Muslims don't like or agree with the culture of France. I get the idea from news descriptions that Muslims have stayed separate culturally and generally are at odds with the mainstream. I don't know the history of this situation.... I was thinking there were a lot of former French territories in northern Africa and the Mediterranean is not that big a barrier to cross. Anyone know why there are so many Muslims in France? especially as it seems they're not happy there?

Better luck today Deb with Kylee. Every doggie is entitled to an off day.
I also want to ask how the diet ended up working for you. I don't want to put you on the spot to answer if it didn't work for you. my cousin has just announced that he is going on an elimination diet to see if it helps his chronic medical issues.... he has MANY! the program he's doing is called The Abascal Way( something like that) and he's supposed to eliminate all dairy, alcohol, wheat, processed foods, cured meats. At least he said that was the plan ....and then decided to put it off for a couple weeks. I can't picture him being able to stick to it without a lot of support because his diet is pretty loose overall. anyway, love to hear any insights you might have.

Good evening ladies!

No workout today as I had an early morning doctors appt. Then tonight it was snow max. Was not expecting the snow we received today. Still extremely cold but nothing like it has been the past couple of days.

Deb...poor Kylee. She just wanted nothing to do with it. :(. I like the rotation I am doing because of the variety. I felt doing just the RWH was boring me as it felt like the same thing over and over. I need to mix things up. This rotation has the variety but a lot of hi impact. I am just going to sub in heavy bag or a low impact when I feel I need to tone it down.

Valerie...hope you figure out what is going on with your hand to avoid this happening again. I saw that Cathe posted about losing 4 lbs using her nutritionalist she uses and I would love to know also Deb how things worked out for you and would you recommend?

Lynda....so terrible with what happened in France. So very sad. My DH and I agree with what you wrote and feel the same way. I saw all the news emails coming thru today and I can't imagine how intense it was watching. Lol! About the 20's feeling balmy! Only a New Englander would feel this way!

I know I have said this a gazilion times but really going to go see The Hobbit tomorrow!. The plan is DS and his GF and I go to the movies then pick up some pizza to enjoy while watching the Pats Game!! Yeah Go Pats!!!!

Have a great weekend all! Hi to Judy and Josie!

Good morning,

It's 7 degrees right now. We are off very early this morning, the NYS thruway is closed and we have to take city streets to get there. Ugh...nothing to make me more nervous than I am already.

Thanks for the well wishes for Kylee and me for today. I sure hope that the dog I bring today is the one I usually work with, not that strange dog I had there on Friday. :).

Lynda, that hostage/terrorist situation was horrible. I am glad they did not "capture" them and have to go though a whole trial thing etc. Is that awful to say?

Valerie, as for the NG plan, I think it is really good, and worked for me while I stayed on it. When Thanksgiving came around, I just went back to bad habits and the sugar/carb addiction reared it's ugly head again. I would recommend it if anyone needs to find a way to eliminate any type of food that causes inflammation, or in my case, is very addicting. I am like an alcoholic when it comes to sugar, and carbs like bread. I can honesty say I have never gone 3 weeks with no sugar and felt as good as I did those 3 weeks. I had more energy, and actually slept better. I need to get back on it.

Lori, you have to do workouts that are fun for you, or if like me, you will make excuses not to do them. Have fun with DS and SGF this weekend!

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Stay warm!

Hi Everyone,

It's 2 degrees with a wind chill of -15 right now. I'm planning on taking today as a rest day. Wednesday I did RWH Plyo 1, with Bonus Abs 2, along with a couple of hours of HouseMax. Thursday I did Stretch Max, Core Max 1, and 20 minutes on the spinning bike. Yesterday I did a 1 hour Spinerval. My legs were very sore earlier in the week but after Stretch Max and some easy spinning they felt much better.

Deb-good luck with Kylee this morning! I hope she is feeling much better and that you have a good day.
The NG plan sounds pretty good. I think DH has a sugar/carb addiction too. I know he would feel better if he did some kind of elimination diet, but he is very resistant to any suggestions and it's kind of a sensitive subject for him so I don't push it.

Lori- I agree about RWH, I didn't want to do the RWH only rotation. I've been looking at Cathe's January rotation and that looks like a good one too. I might do one next month.

Valerie- I have had contact dermatitis issues for the past 2 or 3 years also. I have a prescription cream that I keep on hand. For some reason, I attributed it more to menopausal changes since I didn't have the problem before that and it doesn't seem to be related to anything in particular.

Lynda-it is horrible about what happened in France. I have to admit, I was not familiar with Charlie Hebdo or the cartoons prior to this.

Hi to Josie!

Judy

Deb, thanks. I forgot to mention sugar.... he's supposed to eliminate that too. I'm good at cutting back, but not sure I could totally quit, especially gluten. or dairy. or alcohol. sugar... I actually don't get much, but none? unlikely. I eat almost zero processed or fast food. will be interesting to see if cousin can get going on this program. I think he's too used to eating whatever he wants, and he's married to someone who can eat anything and not gain an ounce.
good luck with doggie performance today.

My dermatitis issue seems stabilized. no worse, maybe a little better. I may keep the derm appt just to get an opinion on what she thinks it might be depending on what it looks like by Monday. no reason to spend the $$ for an office visit if there's nothing to see. Judy, I didn't have any special cream, just used some mild OTC lotions, and coconut oil. I'm being careful. rubber gloves if I'm into cleaning solutions or even detergent. all I know is I'm somewhat allergic to nickel in jewelry and can't use acetate containing nail polish remover. my skin is dry especially in winter.

Lynda I spent a some time this morning looking up Daumier. there was an interesting article from the NYT today discussing satire, xenophobia, racism and I came across the same name again. even found the cartoon of king Louis Philippe turning into a pear ! it adds so much to understanding .... so easy to look up things on Wikipedia. my knowledge of history is abysmal.

I did 30 on the elliptical, 15 treadmill, and core 2.

Well after an hour on city streets to get to the place, we got there and they had canceled it! Unbelievable.

Apparently there was a driving ban in the town that it was in that started at 11:00 pm last night ( unbeknownst to anyone) so technically we were driving there during a driving ban, then get there to find out they had canceled it about 5 minutes after we arrived. I guess this time was not meant to be the time Kylee got her title.

Just glad to be home safe and warm.

Will check back later,

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning was RWH low impact one and I followed up with x10 low impact. I included the x10 warm up as I feel this is a little mini workout in itself. Was about 50 minutes total.

FINALLY saw The Hobbit and I liked it at all. I knew I would of course. After we picked up a couple pizzas now we are heating up and waiting on the game to start.

Deb....oh that stinks!!!!!!! Glad you are home safe.

Judy...I need tons of vareity when I workout. No matter how good the workouts are if I feel like I am doing the same thing every day I am easily bored. I saw the January rotation and it did look good.

Valerie....oh to eat anything I wanted and not gain an ounce. This is not in my world. I gain very easily because I love my food and my wine on the weekends.

Well...off to eat pizza and gain weight!!! :)

Have a great eveing all!

Deb, what a bummer... going all that way for nothing.... at least you got there and back OK. better luck next time for kylee.

Lori.. I should HOPE to have 1/2 her metabolism! and she doesn't exercise at all. some things aren't fair!
