Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/25

Good evening ladies!

No workout today....did not sleep well at all last night. Like you Deb was one of those nights where both dogs drove us nuts!!!! Hoping tonight is better.

More snow on the way tonight. Ugh. At least this time only 1-3 inches. We should be able to handle this easily!

Deb...I agree with Valerie you are doing awesome with your morning workouts. I need to start up again with my early morning workouts. I stopped because of all the RWH plyo workouts. Did not want to over do things. You have inspired me to start up again. So next week in the mornings I think I will start with the Ruthless workouts. I enjoyed them and they were short and to the point. I did go into work on Wednesday. The office had a delay opening at 11am but I still went in at 8:30am.

Valerie....glad you are going on your trip. Things must have all worked out good then. Oh your ride sounds beautiful! Flowers sound really nice right now to me! The form pointers are why I fell in love with Cathe workouts. Her direction has always been wonderful. Learned so much from her.

Judy...I find that I have been doing more and more streaming too. Of course all the Cathe Live is streaming. It is easy to mix and match from the demand than inserting a disc. I can't wait for the workout blender for the on demand. Options will be endless!

Hi to Josie and Lynda!!!

Hi Ladies,

Today was our sixth session with our trainer in addition to cardio ( spinning and running) for me and tennis for my DH and I'm happy to report that we are seeing results already. We are very happy with her.

Valerie, have a safe trip and enjoy yourselves.

Lori, I love working out early in the morning, but my DH is not a morning person :). We start at 10:30.

Deb, I agree with the rest of the ladies. You are doing great!

Garance, hope that you had an amazing week.

Hi to Judy!

Josie

Good morning,

Snowy and cold here today. I was up with the dogs at 3:00 am...let them out and did go back to sleep. No workout today. I did today's workout on Tuesday.

I didn't mention, I took Kylee to the vet on Wednesday, for a re-check and she was 100% clear of any infection, rods, crystals etc etc! The vet said we could go back to the homemade diet, but he wants me to bring in a sample in 6 weeks to see if there is any changes. He said that it takes about 4 weeks for a change in their diet to have any impact on their blood, urine etc. Keeping my fingers crossed that she can stay off the prescription food..

Valerie, I felt the same way about PT when I went for it for my back. The exercises didn't work for me at all, but of course it was something completely different from what you have. Have a great trip!

Lori, hope you got a better night's sleep last night, and that you do not get much snow today. I will most likely work out around 7 or so when I retire. At least that is the plan. If I still wake up at 4:00, I guess I may get the workout out of the way, but I don't think that will happen. I never could do workouts after being out and about, like at work, or even on the weekend, If I shower, go out shopping or anything, I just can't "go back" and do a workout, get sweaty etc. Once I am out and about, I am done.

Josie, how great that you are already seeing results! Have you done anything with nutrition?

Hi to Judy, and the Spa Lady!

Work, then agility class tonight. Take care,

Things are not working. dh got a series of headaches last night that are much worse than usual he had one last Friday and this is more frequent too he has resisted meds for this but will need to see his neurologist. There are risks to some of them but he can't continue with this many. They have changed in character inthe last week. We need to be closer to home to iron this out. Always something! Maybe we can regroup and try again next week.

Deb what good news for Kyle. Has she been on the rx food or homemade? So funny I don't much like early am exercise and will work out almost anytime else. Unles we're hiking and then must be early morning. Yesterday I did mr shoulder moves then a pedal power premix.

Good evening ladies!

I was off today. Slept in a bit which felt wonderful. Needed to catch up on my sleep. Today I did Insanity Max 30 cardio challenge. Wow! This was a tough one. You go go go and have a few breaks interspersed. This is from the newest Beachbody Shaun T workout that my DH bought me for xmas. I then followed up with xtrain ch,bk,shoulders. I felt great when I was finished!

Valerie...I am so sorry to hear about your DH's headaches. They sound terrible. Do you have an appt with the neurologist? Hope they find out what is going on so he can get relief quickly! On another note....tell me about how you no longer have cable and bought an antenna and stream? We are seriously thinking about doing this. We have been hesitant because we want to have the local channels. I think if we buy a digital antenna then this solves the problem. I know you went through this entire process so hoping you can give advice. Can more than one TV be hooked to antenna? I have no clue!!!

Deb....so glad to hear Kylee is all well and you can go back to your routine. We received several more inches of snow last night and more to come Sunday.

Josie...that is great you are seeing results already!!! I would love to have a trainer come to my house. Perhaps I can look forward to this some day! My favorite time to workout is 9am which is the time I workout on the weekends.

Hi to Judy and Lynda!

Hi Everyone,

Today was a rest day. Yesterday I did High Step Circuit with Stability Ball Abs; Basic Step, and the 100 rep Tricep Challenge from XTrain. The challenge was the hardest part of the workout! I am feeling it today.

Valerie-I'm so sorry about your DH's headaches. I hope you can find out what's going on quickly and that he can start taking something that helps.

Lori-we have a winter storm watch for Sunday. They are saying 6-8 inches possible. Spring can't come soon enough!
I agree about the workout blender. That will be so nice to use with the streaming workouts. I did XTrain Chest, Back & Shoulders on Tuesday.

Deb- I agree, you are doing awesome with your workouts! That's great news about Kylee!

Josie-that's awesome to be getting results so quickly! I am a morning person too, but DH is not.

Here's a selfie of Shadow and I, well mostly Shadow :)

Hi to Lynda!

Judy

well, yes, that is mostly about Shadow!.. how sweet.... I love kitties. he looks like my little guy except mine is gray not black. . same face and expression. our guy was happy to see us back today. around noon.

DH is OK but he felt like a headache was coming on all morning but nothing happened. he is a personal friend of his neurologist so he made some suggestions and we have ordered the meds and will pick them up Monday. nothing earthshaking, and neurologist was not that concerned. but DH was very worried yesterday. I guess it has more to do if it's YOU or someone else. he is feeling better. we ended up just driving today and sorting some things out and unloading things and trying to de-stress. we may try this again next weekend with some backup meds with us.

Lori, we put up a big roof antenna. I can get the brand if that helps. we attached it to the chase cover covering our chimney, and pointed it toward where the signals come from. we manually rotated it and checked the signal strength from inside to set it to a certain degree setting. we tried more than one antenna before one worked. the major local stations broadcast from a very small area in Seattle. they are within 1/4 mile each other. so we are able to point the antenna at a very specific area. mostly we can pick up a reasonable signal from at least one and sometimes 3 stations. it varies though. sometimes only one is strong. we don't know if they vary the signal strength or if there are other variables. we get the other channels off the internet via cable. we pay 7.99/month for hulu plus. the free choices weren't very good. we really weren't watching anything on "regular" basic cable except for news and as long as you can get either cbs, abc, or nbc it's similar so we didn't need to watch all 3, one at a time . fox seems to be present but I don't want to watch their crap

Good morning,

I tried to sleep in today...dogs got John up at 2:15...

I was able to get back to sleep until 5:30.

Valerie, that's awful about your DH and headaches. I hope he can get an appointment and be seen soon. Kylee was on the prescription food for about 4 weeks. Dr Josh said that we can go back to the homemade, but he wants to do the analysis again to make sure it was the loose bladder that allowed whatever it was in that caused the infection etc. Now that she is on those hormones for bladder control, if that was what it was, the change in food shouldn't have any affect. It's like a trial.

Judy, that picture is too funny! Those eyes are gorgeous!

Lori, good job on the new workouts! Anything with Shaun T is tough! I don't think you can "stream" with an antenna...I have one we bought at Radio Shack, for $14.99. You can only get local stations, ABC, CBS, NBC and maybe FOX...and PBS. They are all in HD and that is all we needed for TV watching. To tell you the truth, I think I have actually watched TV on it once or twice. I use my iPad for TV...watch Downton on PBS and The Good Wife on CBS from their websites the day after the shows are on so I can pause when I want to etc. Maybe you are thinking about Apple TV streaming?

Hi to Josie, and Lynda,

Not much going on....agility class, nails done, and lots of HouseMax....

Have a great weekend!

Good afternoon ladies!

This morning I did Lift it Hiit it Legs premix 6 which is the entire workout with abs interspersed throughout. I really liked it a lot. Was about and hour once I added the stretching onto the end. It reminded me of her original bootcamp dvd - weights, cardio, abs in each cycle.

Judy...shadow is adorable! Is she on your spinbike working out with you? My doggies love to be around me when I am working out. Depending on the workout I sometimes have to kick them out in fear of one of us getting hurt! The 100 reps are tough and the tricep and the lateral ones are the most difficult for me. Towards the end I am using lighter weights.

Valerie...glad no headaches came on. So nice to have a close friend that is a neurologist. Thanks for the info of the antena. I do realize you do not stream from the antenna and that is what you use the ipad for. I meant to say for local channels and you stream with Ipad and by doing this you were able to reduce you cable. We have been reading up on it and now think we will make the move. We are sick of paying a high cable bill every month.

Deb...that is what we are thinking too. Get the local channels and then watch the series we like the next day when they become available. Right now we have netflix and amazon prime. We also use HBOGO but this is tied to our cable account because we already have HBO. I thought I heard you can get just HBOGO for a small fee. I may be wrong here. I was up at 6:00am today. I feel lazy if I sleep later on a Saturday! Lol!!

Have a great afternoon all! I am looking forward to the superbowl and I am standing by the Patriots!

Lori I wish I were the brains here, but no.... DH is. we bought a Roku to use with the antenna but we could not get it to work. we took it back and bought an apple TV box. we went to Best Buy, and returns were simple. we also put a grounding wire from antenna to a buried pole in the ground.
we subscribed to hulu plus thru I-tunes, after checking out the free stuff and finding it pretty worthless.
we get the local stations thru the antenna, and I think sometimes via the apple tv box too. seems local channels are streamed but a little later than the live broadcast. we also bought a signal boosting device that is hooked in between the antenna and the TV. to be honest ....we tried a lot of things before we got a combo that worked, at least 2 different antennas. we looked at the antenna manufacturer info online and got a good idea if we were close enough to pick up a decent signal. It is hilly here and we are about 50 miles from the broadcasting towers in seattle.
I have a TV/DVD in the basement that I use to play disks, and it gets some channels off the antenna.... channel 9 has several sub channels, 9-1, 9-2 (Spanish) , 9-3 and there are a few others but mostly I don't watch anything but workout disks there. I think I would need another apple TV box to get it to pick up more, but no reason for me to do that.

I would ask locally friends, neighbors, and see what people use and how it works. we were not watching anything much from the cable except for the news. our current set up is sometimes better than what we got from cable, but not always. it varies for reasons we haven't figured out. but it's a lot cheaper. our rate was going to be about $185 for basic cable, internet, land line. it is now $96 for internet and land line. so we paid for all the gear we bought by the savings in just a couple months.

I took yesterday off. today we did a hike, nothing real hard but probably 5 miles RT at a fast clip. a little uphill and down. very pretty morning on a big lake with mountains in the background. I will pick up the rest of his meds today. then we are free to plan another trip with headache supplies in hand. his neurologist wasn't that concerned and thinks his issue is caffeine which he does not want to give up!.
