Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/25

Good morning ladies!

Yesterday was a great workout day. Started off with RWH upper body circuit then went into Cathe Live Hard Strikes on the heavy bag. Did not do the weights after. Total time was about 75 minutes. Then if this was not enough I had to deal with snowmax. We received about 8 inches. Yuck. Since I pretty much was snowed in I went ino housework then ended with installing 1 more set of blinds. I am on this blind phase now. :) at around 6pm I settled down with a glass of wine and waited for DH to come home. Monday into Tuesday they are saying a nasty storm will drop up to 2ft of snow. Hoping you are not coming home anytime soon Lynda!

Deb...I did not see the live tape when the camera man fell. I read while doing the workout people at home just saw the camera drop to the floor. Must have been scary! Then a while late Cathe posted what happened and she was going to filmed alone and post.

Judy...amazing workout out! I can barely make 1 of cathe's workout on my spin. I am usually wishing it was done by the 40 minute mark. Congrats to you!!!

Valerie...hope your DH is feeling better. I am so fortunate to never have had a migraine. They sound horrible. I love my Iphone! No complaints here. Glad your shoulder is getting better.

Not sure what the workout will be today and we have no plans either. So it will be on the fly whatever we decide!

Have a great day all. Hi to Josie and Lynda!

I stuck in late yesterday an edit... finally did a one hour spin. I don't know why I had so much trouble with posture at first. I still have issues with the up/down, "butt back" position cathe uses. I bump into the seat a lot! I lowered it to get it out of the way, but can't pedal so low. tried pulling it back wards after re-raising it. this bike is infinitely adjustable. whatever..... minor annoyances. spin keeps my heart rate in a perfect, easily adjustable zone. I am pedaling faster than before but not as fast as some on her crew. wow.. those 2 guys have incredibly fast legs. I'm happy I kept trying because I'm getting to really like it.

Lori DH is okay. his first headache day is awful, then less. it lasts several days. he has never figured out every trigger for them. caffeine, either too much or too little is a factor. advil helps but he can get a rebound headache when it wears off so he skips it. my sympathies on the snow. and on the upcoming blizzard. looks like we will luck out this year. it's been mild and wet, not much snow even in the mountains. if no snow by end of Jan, we are not likely to get any.

Good afternoon,

Today I did RWHIIT Back, Shoulders & Biceps. Lots of errands and HouseMax today, the time just got away from me. I just finished packing and freezing the dog food.

Lori, I hope you don't get the snow that they predicted. Ugh...

Valerie, I also have never had a migraine...hope your DH is on the downside now.

Judy, Great workouts! Like others said, amazing with the length of time that you can do a spinning workout.

Hi to Josie, & Lynda,

Take care,

Deb....it looks like a couple of feet coming our way with high winds. No workout today as we needed to make sure we were ready for this ridculous amount of snow. Generator set up, gas available, shovels, roof rake, firewood. All the flashlights charged etc. We have plenty of food and water so very thankful I did not need to go to the grocery store. That would have been a nightmare! Sounds like it will start Monday evening and go thru to wednesday morning so it is a slow moving storm. My husband packed his bags and will be staying in a hotel close by his restaurant Monday and Tuesday. I am happy he will not be driving but not happy I'll be home alone. Oh well. Maybe it won't be as bad as predicted. This maybe wishful thinking!

Have a great night!

Hi Ladies,

I took Friday off. I went to the boot camp orientation and workout on Saturday. It was fun and the trainer is very nice, there will be no yelling in this boot camp ;). I felt like I got a good workout. I will be starting on February 2nd.
Today I went for a walk on the beach, it was 73 degrees here.

Valerie, hope that your DH is feeling better.

Lori, that storm does not sound good at all. Be safe!

Hi to Deb, Judy and Garance!

Josie

Lori you sound like you know how to batten down the hatches! smart your DH stays somewhere close to work. if it's this bad, does a restaurant really get business??
When DH was still working, corporate would throw tantrums insisting employees "show up for work". then when no patients were able or willing to show up, they'd send everyone home.... and all the while, the main risk was the drive there and back. why go to a medical clinic without lights, power or telephone..... it was insane. exam rooms don't have windows, they would look at people as best they could in the dark rooms with flashlights!
we are not geared up for snow like you are, and a foot of snow paralyzes things. this looks like a benign year for us.

took cousin out for his birthday and saw Wild. I loved it. it was very true to the book. the only major flaw was her boots looking like new. boots don't look new for more than a mile or two, maybe less. a very good movie.

I did a short spin this morning before we had to head out., about 30 min . had to trim one of the pre mixes but that was all the time there was.

Josie sound like real "harsh winter conditions"... sunny and 73 on a beach walk! I'm trying to relate.... it was about 60 and sunny here so not too bad. we are having some issues come up with our planned trip and DH is getting a little ornery about it. he is starting to think maybe he doesn't really want to go. thinking maybe his headache is not gone yet.

ETA we did a road bike today as planned 25 miles in 2 hrs 20 min. it was mid 60's and felt like June. just lovely. I wore my new cool weather tights with a chamois and was very pleased with them. very comfy and stayed in place. actually too warm for unexpectedly warm conditions.

Hope you all are doing Ok with the blizzard and nasty winter conditions... Lynda, are you going to be able to get home on time?

Hi Everyone,

Yesterday I did STS Squat Rack Legs and today I did XTrain Bi's & Tri's with core 2. Will be back to spinning tomorrow. I'm going to wait until next Friday to take a rest day. DH has that day off and we will be doing our taxes and getting caught up on things that we need to do.

Lori and Deb-thanks! I like to try to do one longer ride a week through the winter. The longer rides I do are usually aerobic base, so not as hard as if I was doing 2 hours of Cathe spinning. Might be fun to try that though :) I hope you don't have any problems with the storm. Stay safe.

Josie-Boot camp sounds like fun! I wish it was 73 degrees here. :)

Valerie-I am lucky too, I've never had a migraine. DH used to have them when he was younger.

Hi to Lynda!

Judy

Good morning & Happy Monday....NOT!
worksucks.gif

I did the HIIT Low Impact One this morning, no core workout. I am not too fond of the one that doesn't use weights, I like the other one better.

Lori, wow that is really scary....I hope they are wrong and you only get a small amount of snow. Good that you are prepared though.

Josie,,,ok, do NOT rub it in about the temp there! LOL..I think it's 19 here right now. I will be in Tucson in a few weeks, and I am hoping to get out of this cold.

Valerie, too bad about the trip....I hope your DH gets better and maybe you can still go. When where you leaving?

Judy, how often do you take a rest day? Did you sign up for Cathe Live? or the On demand one? I still don't know the difference...
No class tonight,
banana016.gif
We are going to go out and get a floor lamp after dinner....We bought 2 really nice ones, and the switches broke on both of them. at least we were able to bring them back and get a refund.....ugh....junk from China...

Take care,

Deb-I have been taking a rest day every week, usually on Saturday or Sunday. I ended up working out both days this weekend and decided to wait until Friday since I know I probably won't have time for a workout that day. That will give me 12 consecutive days of working out.
I did sign up for Cathe On Demand and the Cathe Live subscription came with it.

we were planning on leaving this Thurs early am. the commute traffic is absolutely awful and there are no alternatives. we would have to be out the door at the latest, 5 am. it's way more complicated driving a big camper in heavy b-to-b rush hour traffic for 100 miles. we may change to our usual early sat morning when the commute is less of an issue. we still leave early but it's less intense. it's a 2 day drive. anyway DH had a little disagreement with his sister about what days we'd be there, and now he's not sure we should go at all. will settle things out today.

Judy that is a long stretch of days. 2 hours on an indoor bike is too long for me. we are doing a road ride today that will probably be 2.5 hours but somehow outside is different.

deb it's so hard to find anything NOT made in china. I always look but not pleasantly surprised too often.

Good morning,

I did a Walk Fit workout on the treadmill this morning.
running.gif
< this isn't me....I walk...LOL...

We got a little snow....just a dusting I guess you could call it. Not enough to worry about. I hope the east coast doesn't get what they predicted. We closed our NYC JFK office, NJ and Boston yesterday afternoon, everyone left around 2:00

We went out looking for new lamps last night...nothing in the places we went. I don't want to pay upwards of $300 for a floor lamp...sheesh...but I guess I will if it means the switch lasts more than a couple of months.

Valerie, I hope everything works out ok with DH and his sister and you are able to make the trip.

Judy, If you get On Demand, you don't have to buy any of the older DVD's? they are all just there for you to play? I guess I have all the ones I want already....Cathe Live is intriguing though.

Lori, did you get the predicted snow?

Hi to Josie,
Not much else here....work, home, ....

Good morning!

Wow snow snow snow....watching the news and they are saying right now we are at about 25 inches and it will continue all day. Fortunately, it is the lighter fluffy snow so I am not worried about the roof at the moment. However, this amount of snow is still heavy and we will have to get it off the roof when we can. If the temp changes or any rain comes then this would be bad.

Everything pretty much is closed. Glad people took this seriously. Dh ended up coming home since the restaurant would close today. Glad he is home.

Right now we still have power! Thousands are without and we are keeping our fingers crossed.

Ok enough about the storm....today I am doing the challenge the Cathe Facebook group put out there which is x77. This is all of the x10 workouts at once. I have only done this once when it first came out just to be able to say I did it and boy it is a tough one.

Valerie...hope all works out and you get to travel. I feel the same way about finding things made in america.

Deb....I love your little moving guys you always post. Where do you get them? Lamps are so expensive! A few years back we were shopping for some and were very discouraged. We ended up finding some at a local shop that we liked and were reasonably priced. I absolutely LOVE Cathe Live as you know. The On Demand I have but do not use as often. I was't sure if I should keep but glad I still have it. There have been a few times it has come in handy and for an additional 10 bucks it is worth it for me. Plus now that she has added chapters and will soon have the online workout blender I will be using it alot more. Will be easy to create my custom workouts which I am very excited about! Where about in Tucson? My brother lives there.

Judy...you humble me with your workouts!! Good for you great job!

Josie...oh would I love 73 degrees right now. I like bootcamp workouts. I feel cathe's new series is similar in style as a bootcamp workout just moves a lot faster!

Hi to Lynda! Boy you picked the perfect week to go away!

Have a great day. I'll check in later to let you know how we fared once the storm passes.

sometimes my SIL is a lazy keyboarder and she doesn't always get down what she really means and DH reads too much into things. we are going and will leave either Thursday late afternoon or very early friday am. .

we rode our 25 mile road ride yesterday afternoon. it was lovely gorgeous out. it was sunny, 65 degrees. birds were signing, frogs were croaking, it felt like april. I wore my new Terry cool weather tights and was very pleased although they were too warm for that temp. then went to PT. so pleasant. I did everything easily and no pain this morning. the ultrasound and then deep massage ..I could get used to this. I have one more appt for sure, then we will be gone for a week, so not sure if I will need more. insurance will cover 7 sessions and I'll have had 3 but still a $40 copay. we'll see.

wow... that is a lot of snow Lori. at least cities are doing the right thing and keeping people at home ( trying, anyway) so the roadways don't get totally clogged with stalled vehicles, making plowing and clearance for emergency vehicles impossible. that's what usually happens here. plus we have some seriously steep hills.
How do you deal with roof snow? our roof is steep enough that it usually slides down stopping at the gutters but then the gutters get blocked. when we get snow it's heavy wet stuff. our driveway slopes down to our garage. DH and I installed a French drain to deal with run off but it means we have to shovel the entire driveway. it's steep and uphill and at least 100 yards long. ugh. luckily most years snow is not a big issue.

Deb, I don't own a floor lamp! never really thought about it .... I have a few table lamps but that's it. I'll add I'm no decorating genius....

Good evening ladies,

Well it is after 5:00pm and still snowing! Certainly not like it was earlier but still coming down. We ended up with over 2 feet. My DH thinks closer to 3 feet and we made it without losing power! This was a tough one as we decided with the amount we needed to rake the roof. For those of you that have no idea what this is we use a long telescopic tool that has a metal plow at the end and you reach up to the roof as far as you can and rake the snow off. Usually the snow then falls all over you so you need to be carefull!! We have a ranch so fortunatley we can reach and get several feet off the edges. There have been times where the snow was so heavy my son had to get ON the roof and shovel off as much as he could. Crazy New England life!!

I did x77 as mentioned earlier and wow this is a tough workout. I do believe all of the RWH I have been doing helped me through it.

Valerie...your ride sounds so lovely to me! Oh for it to feel like spring. Great that you had no pain. That is awesome.

Ok...after x77 and all the snowmax today my DH just poured me a glass of wine. Only every now and then do we have wine during the week, however, today it is well deserved!

Have a good night!

Lori-great job with x77! I was following that in the FB Cathe group too. That workout looks very challenging.

Valerie-Great ride! I am going a little stir crazy not being able to get outside. I can't wait until Spring when I can ride outdoors again.

Deb-I think all of Cathe's workouts are included in the streaming. I use the streaming most of the time but still have my dvds as a backup.
I am getting more comfortable with the idea of streaming but I still like having the physical media too. With Spinervals, they have downloads you can buy so I have been doing that more lately too.

Good morning & Happy Hump Day to us working stiffs!

Today I did Cathe HIIT Legs, All strength premix. Whew..glad that is over! :)

Lori, you survived the big storm! I can't imagine shoveling snow off of a roof, but there were a lot of people here that were doing that back in November. Great job on the 77 workout....Those are all tough. A glass of wine after all you did was well deserved! Are you going in to work today?

My little emoticons are "stolen" off of another forum I am on...(shush...don't tell, LOL :))

Valerie, 65 degrees sounds like heaven about now. If you use all 7 sessions, is that it for a year? If so, I would save some up in case you have an issue again. Glad your trip will be happening.

Judy, I am comfortable with MP3 downloads...LOL....I do have Travel Fit, but that's it. I like getting the DVD's because if I don't like the workouts, I can always sell them. Streaming? I guess not...once you pay for them they are yours forever.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then home to crash....

Stay warm,

Deb, I am assuming that the 7 sessions are for this particular problem. I doubt I'll use them all unless I take a turn for the worse. I'm on medicare plus a supplement ( United) and it's a bit of an experiment to see what's covered. a $40 co pay seems a bit much, similar to $50 for a specialist. they sent me a book that looked like a phone book. I never read it.

we are leaving tomorrow later in the day. not sure if I will be checking in during the trip. going for about a week, maybe 10 days. we'll see how it goes. plan on doing a ride today, probably shorter unless the weather clears off. cooler and damper than the other day but still ok for outdoor rides.

Hope you kept power Lori and that the snow is manageable . Lynda, hope you can get home.

ETA we did a pleasant 15 mile ride today. then therapy.

Good morning,

Where is everyone?

Almost didn't get up today, but could not go back to sleep so I got up and did HIIT Chest, Shoulders, & Triceps this morning, did the timesaver with 2 sets, no finishers.

Valerie, have a safe trip, bring your iPad and check in if you can.

Hi to Josie, Judy, & Lori,

Work, then home to
smiley-sleep027.gif

Stay warm!

Hey Deb I'm here for a few hours. you are doing so well with the early am workouts!
we did a short ride yesterday 15 miles it was very nice again yesterday after early clouds burned off, and almost no one on the trail so very peaceful. flowers are blooming wedds are up and trees buds are swelling, feeling very spring like. also went to therapy.
I used 5 lbs for most work. all the cathe & yoga work gave me good form and they couldn't tell me much I didn't already know. I'll take my band and exercises and keep it up while I'm gone but I think I'm done with therapy. I was not real impressed with the place. they seemed awfully casual about things, and I think I can do another week or two myself and if I have doubts I can return for a f/up visit. will see if I have discomfort hiking, biking or kayaking but I'm optimistic that if I don't overdo this will be done.
