Good morning,

Today I did HIIT Back, Biceps & Shoulders. I selected the premix that was a Timesaver, 2 sets only, no Finishers. It ended up being Back & Biceps, 2 sets, no finishers and No Shoulders....strange. I asked if anyone had noticed that over on the other forum.

Josie, nice to have a trainer come to your house! Once he sets you and your DH up with a plan, will your DH just continue on his own?

Valerie, the bathroom sounds lovely! Great that you may have figured out what happened with your hand...will wait to hear today.

Judy, did you like TLC ( KCM)? I am not really a fan of her kickboxing style, except for when she uses that for cardio interval like in Trim Down. Everyone is doing stuff in their houses...it makes me feel lazy. We just had all that work done, but it was all mechanical stuff or outside like the roof....nothing that makes it feel fresh or new.

Hi to Lori & Lynda,

Lots of HouseMax today, I kind of ignored my "list" yesterday, with the play and all.

Take care,

Deb-I didn't really like TLC that much. She moves so fast that I couldn't keep up with her. I don't have that problem with the Cathe kickboxing workouts. I only did the boxing workout, I haven't tried the conditioning one. She had a New Years sale, 1/2 off and $5 shipping so I got TLC and Your Healthy Back.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did BarreAmped (68:00).

I went to see Selma yesterday. It's an important film to see, if only to remind ourselves of the history of the voting rights act. At times, I thought the dialogue felt too theatrical and stately. People tend to interact with voiceovers and interruptions more realistically rather than waiting and pausing after each person gives his little speech. The most realistic confrontation was between LBJ and Wallace IMO because I have read that LBJ could get pretty rough. The violence is shocking, but when Duvernay (the director) intersperses actual b and w footage from 1965, we know she is not exaggerating and this both legitimizes her insistence on the horror of what happened and reminds us of why so many people joined the march from Selma to Montgomery after they saw what happened on TV. She also reminds us of all the J. Edgar Hoover wiretapping of King and many others in the Civil Rights movement. I thought it was an earnest film, well-deserving of its Oscar nomination. I would certainly prefer it to Boyhood.

Deb, it sounds like you have a lot of great things to look forward to when you retire. Travel these days can be a lot of trouble. I'm leaving on Thursday for San Diego and my spa vacation at Rancho la Puerta. I've signed up for two early morning hikes, a facial, massage, manicure and pedicure, a 3 and a half hour cooking class, a Pilates class, a Hydro-fit class, and a dance class. I will probably sign up for more when I get there after I see what things look like. The weather sounds dry and from the 50s to the 70s in temperature.

Lori, I bet you are getting ready for the game tonight. I bet it will be a wet game, but I heard that the Pats have won both times they played in rain, so I am being optimistic. Those biceps tears sound awful--especially pushing a needle in to encourage self-healing.

Valerie, Sylvia Plath had chilblains too, but she was living in a thatched-roof manor house in Devon England at the time where she couldn't get the temp above 55 until they bought several space heaters. I always thought chilblains were something I read about in medieval and Renaissance lit until DH suffered from them.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

I was reading about chilblains.... one site described how "rapid warming" can cause tissue fluid to leak out of the cells and cause the inflammation. well, that must be it. it's not really the cold and wet issue that I've addressed. we have a hot tub! we don't use it often but we used it a short time before the inflammation started. perhaps my hands were colder than usual for some reason... like in cold water washing vegies. when we use it it's before dinner, while something is in the oven. this fits and makes sense. I used the hot tub last winter also. we use it fall thru spring occasionally. we keep it at 100 degrees. I maybe have slightly damaged tissue from cold exposure. we've hiked and skied a lot over decades. I remember my father having problems with his ears because he was frostbitten as a kid and they used to blister and peel in cold weather. so maybe I was colder than usual, and then rapid warming in the hot tub did it. this can be approached by not getting hands too cold to begin with, and also by not being tempted to warm them too quickly.
Not sure how I will deal with this..... making sure my hands are warm before getting in might be enough. will check with derm when she's back from vacation. DH agrees this is probably what is happening.

Did pedal power 40 min premix yesterday. really gets my heart rate up. I'm getting better with the posture and can stand most of the time now. the up& down business still doesn't work very well... I keep bumping the saddle. then did core 1. easy to jump on and get it done.

ETA Lynda we were posting at the same time. thanks for the movie review. I plan on seeing Selma. the scariest thing is we are old enough to actually remember some of this happening. Vacation sounds lovely!.

Good evening ladies,

Today I did Ride and finish with 100 rep bicep curls. Was so busy all day with house max and ending up installing blinds in the living room. We had no blinds in this room and it always bugged me. I bought the really cheap kind at walmart. They do the trick and actually look great. So I am glad this is behind me.

Right now we are relaxing by the fire watching the game before the Patriots. Yeah we are excited!

Valerie...I have never heard of chilblains. Need to look this one up. Sounds terrible to deal with. We both did spin today!

Lynda...my injury was not fun and hope that never happens again. Rainy and cold today for the game. Oh your vacation sounds so nice and a lot of fun. Perfect time of year to get away from New England!

Josie...yes I agree with Deb on having a trainer come to your house. I thought you were going to a gym. Very nice!!

Deb...I'll have to say you have been doing phenominal with these new workouts. Very consistent. I was looking at the January rotation and I will start this one tomorrow. I'll need to tweak it a bit though and sub out a couple of the workouts.

Judy...I agree with you on Kelly's kickboxing. I just did not click with them at all. I only have a couple of her dvd's that I use. I really like her Trim Down the one with the tabatas on and off the step. Not overly intense but gets my heart rate up a bit. Sometimes you need one that is not so jarring on the joints.

Have a great night!

Good morning,

We have a bunch of "spinners" here. All that spinning talk is making me dizzy!

Today I did HIIT Low Impact 2 w/Bonus Abs #1. I really like the core work with a weight.

Judy, I am not sure if I kept TLC or sold it on Ebay. I did sell a few KCM's and they were mostly kickboxing or step. Did you get the kettlebell one? My favorites are her weight ones, like Spit Sessions, Weights, and I like Trim Down and Shape Up.

Lynda, that trip sounds great. You are going with a friend correct?

Lori, wow, I can't imagine doing 100 bicep curls! I don't think I ever tried any of those premixes. which series were they from again? Low Impact? I can't believe you! "I think I will install some blinds today"....I would ponder on that decision for months! LOL.

Hi to Josie,

Work, then late class tonight.

Stay warm!

OMG I'm not a football fan but the game between the hawks and packers was incredible. the last few minutes were nothing short of amazing. I believe we will be seeing each other at the superbowl!

I did another spin yesterday I forget which one. the middle one . did about 40 min premix and core 1. I think I can move up to a full workout now. I've gotten better at standing and my cadence is better. this really bumps my heart rate quickly. I use that more than cadence or resistance. I go to 155 and back off. prefer to stay in the mid to upper 140's.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Dancin' Abs (58:00).

Deb, I'm going with two friends. It's a special deal where we are together in one of their "villas" for a week. SPIT sessions cracked me up. That would indeed be an interesting workout for the mouth.

Lori, the game actually became rather boring because the Colts were so non-competitive. Now there seems to be some kind of controversy over the weight of the balls being used by the Pats.

Valerie, I'm shocked at your excitement over the Superbowl. I thought you were totally indifferent.

Hi to Josie and Judy!

Good afternoon ladies!

I slept great last night for a Sunday. Perhaps staying up late to watch all the post game TV was a good thing. Perhaps that is what I need to do on Sundays is just stay up late.

Tonight I am starting with the January rotation and first up is Hiit Plyo 1 and x10 Cardio blast. This will be a tough one.

Lynda..yeah we won! I just heard about the controversy with the balls and I think it is ridiculous. How did the refs or players throughout the game not notice? I do not believe this for a second.

Valerie...LOL! I was thinking just that when the Seahawks won. I agree hearing you excited over football is too funny. Great job on the spinning!

Deb....I thought you would get a chuckle how I nonchalantly mentioned I put up blinds. :) They do look really nice. I laughed with the Spit workout too. That would be something! I start off with 8lb weights and I sometimes can make the entire 100 then there are times towards the end I drop to 5's. Doing 100 is hard. Now that my DH works out with me he has been watching my routine and has made comments that he never realized how hard I work out. When I did the last RWH upper body weights he comment that I just did a football players workout. LOL!! Us girls are tough!!

Judy...I find the RWH workouts are harder then they look too. I have backed off a bit with my double workouts while doing these. When I was doing two it was just way too much on my legs.

Hi to Josie!

This was an odd situation because I grew up in WI and was a GB packer fan when I was a teen, so this game was the seahawks vs the packers. I lost interest in football after my teens, but still know something about how the game is played. I only watched a total of maybe 15 minutes of the game but it was wild! apparently nothing much happened for the first > 3/4 of it. DH watched all of it. after winning the superbowl last year the media frenzy is pretty intense.. it is all that is on the news. everyone is running around in blue and green with flags on their cars... I've never seen anything like it. so I liked the part I watched.... but that was enough! what is the story on the under inflated football?

Had my cortisone shot this morning. he xrayed shoulder first, and it is good joint spaces, no arthritic changes. so it is rotator cuff tendonitis as DH had said. the shot was lovely.... for 2 hours I felt completely normal...then the pain killer wore off, and it's back a little. the shot itself stung less than the flu shot. I scheduled PT starting Thursday. need to see what I can and can't do until this improves. it was quite funny because after I told my story of "doing too many pushups" the orthopod confessed that he was having exactly the same problem right now for exactly the same reason.... too many push ups! DH knows him and I am slowly getting to meet every doc in the group with my various issues.

we wet mt biking this afternoon for about 90 minutes.

Lori 100 bicep curls... be careful, that is how I got into this spot by doing too much of something. that is a lot of curls! picture of chilblains can look awful. many people get them on their feet. my hand is looking quite decent now although I wear a light glove to protect it in public places. the skin is still a little inflamed in patches and I do not want to pick up a secondary infection. I want to be sure this is my last bout with this.

Good morning,

Late class last night, actually slept until 5...with only waking up a couple of times. LOL, did not even understand what you meant by "spit sessions" had to go back and re-read my post.

Valerie, like Lynda, I am surprised that you watched a football game! With the local excitement going on, I would be surprised if you did not catch some of that "super bowl fever"! I hope the shot helps somewhat. It reminds me of when I got an epidural when I had the ruptured disk, the pain which had been constant was gone for 2 hours, then back with a vengeance. Totally different from what you have, nothing but surgery helped me.

Lynda, that trip would be lovely for a girls get-a way! Can you give me the name of the place again? Maybe it will be something I plan for retirement. I know my cousin would do that in a heart beat. As long as there is a pool to use. She wouldn't go anywhere without a pool or beach being there.

Lori, great job on the Hundred reps, especially with an 8 pound weight. So nice your DH works out with you.

Hi to Josie, & Judy,

Work, then home to relax...and get warm!

Take care,

I am feeling great about the shot. It's not 100% gone but for the first night in months I slept without being awakened constantly by getting my shoulder in the wrong position. I will go to pt tomorrow and find out what exercises I can do. with the hiking and spinning and riding I don't feel "out of shape" but I miss upper body weight. so many of cathe's workouts use upper body weights to some degree and I've been too nervous to use them, not knowing what might make it worse. this quelled my worries the pain was due to arthritic changes, that it might be unfixable. my shoulder looked GREAT. it was too funny because when he pulled the considerable sized needle out of my shoulder, in no more than 10 seconds, I said "it's fixed! the pain is gone!" then he mentioned the anesthetic so "reality check". but I'm confidant this is not even a small tear just because of how it happened. I'm ramping up things more gradually
Deb I had to go back and look for that 'spit" workout too. I read right over and didn't notice it. how did you rupture a disk?

think we will ride again today, depending on fog.. we are having very mild conditions but without wind it can be very foggy and can make biking a so-so event, in addition to driving..

Hi Ladies,

Went spinning this morning and will be working out with Karina at 10:30. On Saturday I went for a walk in the morning and the body pump.

I'm not a football fan, but my DH was glued to the TV. He wants Seattle to win.

Garance, your trip to the spa sounds great. One of my friends and I went to Ojai for a whole week and we had a great time. The food at the spa was amazing and we each lost 5 pounds.

Valerie, glad that your shoulder is better after the shot and that you finally had a good night sleep.

Lori, you are amazing! That is to many reps for me.

Hi to Judy.

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did ch, sh, tris (39:30). I wish I could lift heavier on these new workouts, but the rest times are too short so I end up going down after the first set.

Deb, Rancholapuerta.com will give you all the information you need. They have special rates for certain times, so this coming week is pretty cheap compared to their usual rates. I clicked on their specials and found this one for 3 in one of their villas. I am so ready to get a change of weather. If you do decide to go, just let them know I referred you and you will immediately get 250 dollars knocked off. There is definitely a heated pool (I am doing one session called Hydro-Fit which will be interesting). If you go to the website, you can look at the week's schedule. Of course, I also have some spa treatments.

Valerie, I hope you have my luck with the cortisone shot. The dull, aching pain just disappeared after mine.

Lori, Belichick has a bad reputation for videoing an opposing team's defensive plays and was fined 500,000 dollars a few years ago for doing that. This time, it just looks like a phony accusation. DH says he is famous for coming up with daring new plays and regularly confers with the coach/friend of Alabama about tweaking his game.

Josie, maybe I will learn something about Mexican cooking in my culinary class. I have heard the food at this place is fantastic. Tell your DH that Brady deserves one more ring. We almost named Max Brady because DH is such a fan.

Hi to Judy!

Good evening ladies!

Tonight was Cathe Live Kickboxing and Barre. I know I have said this many times but I just love this one! What a great workout. The Barre is killer on this one.

When I do the 100 reps I try and get to 50 before my first break. Then I do 2 sets of 25's. Marlo is the one demonstrating and she lifts a lot heavier than I do. I am dying by the end but she just looks so calm.

Lynda...I keep my weights a little lighter in these workouts too. She does move really fast. I do not mind the lighter weights as I feel really worked at the end. I knew about the video taping a few years back. I guess many have done this previously not that this makes it right. Watching the news and listening to all the information I think the press has just blown this up from nothing. I am going to look up that ranch and drool over the website!

Valerie..Ok...you have talked me into going to get my shoulder looked at. I will make an appt tomorrow. It is so weird though. Over the weekend it was just nagging me then yesterday and today nothing.

Josie...how often will Karina come to your home? And what type of workouts will you be doing?

Deb...a ruptured disc sounds terrible. What was the down time after surgery? I can't imagine the pain leading up to and then recovery. I love having DH work out with me. I have been trying to get him to for the longest time. We both seem to be enjoying it.

Hi to Judy!!!!!!!

Have a great night all.

Good morning,

I did HIIT Legs this morning, the premix with no blasts.
weights.gif
It's a balmy 8 degrees here right now.

No internet when we got up this morning, supposedly Time Warner was doing maintenance. Like they can't do that in the middle of the night....maybe they think 5:00 am is the middle of the night?
dontknow.gif

Valerie, glad the shot is working! Nothing like relief from constant pain. I ruptured a disk from doing deadlifts with improper form...they can be very dangerous if you let your mind wander and not keep perfect form. I learned the hard way that's for sure.

Josie, I am envious of you and how close you are to all those lovely spas!

Lynda, the workouts are a little fast, but nothing like the Pyramids! LOL. I will check out that website. wow, $250 taken off because of a referral is great!

Lori, so you just go into some database of Cathe's Live workouts and pick what you want, as many times as you want? I get overwhelmed with the DVD's I have, let alone all those choices! :) I was off for 4 weeks after the surgery, but couldn't do anything that affected my back for another 6 weeks or so.

Hi to Judy,

Work, then we have our dog club meeting tonight, John will go, I will stay home. it takes a lot for me to go back out there in 8 degree weather after getting home and getting warm....

Take care,

Nice out yesterday, sunny and mild so we did a road ride. our regular 25 mile one. not record time but a fine workout. it was not foggy as predicted and that made it feel warm and nice, in the low 50's. will mt bke today if the fog is OK. tomorrow is my first PT session, not today.

wow deb, who would think . I never push weight on deadlifts. I never feel like I am working what I'm supposed to work. feels ambiguous to me. so I do them if they're part of a routine but use a medium comfortable weight and move on. of course I felt the same way about pushups too, these were only knee push ups too, I guess too many of them. but at least I had the sense to not try to work thru the discomfort, something I have been known to do. I think that's a risk with doing many reps, and rep challenges. I lose attention to form as much as I should and tend to focus on the number I want to reach. a ruptured disk is a big price to pay.

Lynda that looks like a lovely place. how does that work with 3 people? does the room cost get split and all the meals and classes are separate? do you share a room or suite? it is not the kind of vacation I'd ordinarily do but it looks luxurious and relaxing. I have 3 friends who I'd like to meet for a vacation together but we can't seem to get the timing down. we are thinking of Sedona.

Josie you are lucky to live where it's always summer.

Deb....here is a picture of what her on demand/live screen looks like. When you click on Cathe Live all her Live Classes show up in alphabetical order and you just scroll through and click on the one that suits you. Or if you are looking for a particular DVD you can look up by series or just type in the name. I love Cathe in her Live Classes.

I'll check in later today after my workout. I think tonight is upper body weight.

Hi Ladies,

Went for a 3mile run today. I had to walk run because my lungs are still not 100% after having the flu. I still got a good workout though.

Garance, have a wonderful time at the spa and if you like any of the recipes please share :).

Lori, Karina comes over twice per week and we do a total body workout using dumbbells and TRX ropes and bands and a weighted ball. My upper body is sore today in all the right places. She did suggest that I take a body pump class on Saturday so that I can get my three days in of weight training.

Valerie, I know that we are lucky. It never gets to cold and I could never live anywhere else.

Hi to a deb and Judy!
