Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/18

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did low impact hiit 2 with core 1 (39:46).

Valerie, the spa has many single rooms in a hotel I think, but also 9 separate little villas for groups. This particular week coming up is $2250 per person, but we had 250 dollars knocked off because one of us had already been there and was a referral, so it's $2000 per person, which includes all meals and signups for myriad events--all kinds of exercise classes, hikes of every kind (bird hikes, a breakfast hike to their garden which is really big, mountain hikes), meditation, feldenkrais, stretch, circuit, lectures too--just tons of stuff. The spa treatments are additional, but reasonably priced I think. But you really would not have to sign up for any spa treatments at all because there is so much that is just part of the week's package. You should explore the site. There are shorter packages as well. Hit on their rates and then their specials. Take a look at the week's calendar.

Deb, I think you mentioned that injury before. It must have been terrible. Nothing worse than back pain. I did the Pyramids every week for about 6 mos. but I don't think they were very heavy weights on the upper body, and you didn't have to hurry into pushups, triceps dips or kickbacks after doing 3 sets of another exercise.

Lori, it's so great that you can work out with your DH and he now knows how tough you are.

I will be off tomorrow. I will let you know what it's like when I return--if not before.

Good evening ladies,

Today was a rest day. My mailroom person had her gallbladder out and I needed to cover for her and will be doing so until she is back. It will be a tough few weeks doing double duty. Wednesday is what we call package day where we ship from the office to all 88 restaurants. other departments did step up and helped out but boy packaing up all these boxes is a process and exhausting. So perhaps I did have an upper body workout after all.

Lynda...enjoy your trip and I can not wait to hear all about it! Will be thinking of you each day enjoying your self and absorbing the sun and warmer weather.

Josie...makes sense you are not back to 100% yet. You'!! be back soon the way you work out. Love that she comes to your house. Do you know the routine beforehand or is it a surprise?

Valerie...great job on the ride. Here we have too much snow and ice on the roads for anyone to be biking.

Deb...I have to be careful with deadlifts too. When I go really heavy my lower back sometimes tires quickly. I usually stop if I need too. Never want to push my back. I have noticed now that I have mirrors in my weight room I have really corrected my form especially with deadlifts.

Have a great night all!

Good morning,

Internet was out AGAIN this morning....just came back on. Will check back later...

Lynda, have a safe trip!

take care,

I'm having internet issues lately, but the connection itself has been Ok. we had a 15 hour power out last weekend... the day before the football games. a windstorm, lots of minor damage. our power went out in the last 15 minutes of the game. briefly. I was thinking how it would have driven most fans insane totally nuts! it came back on in 15 seconds, long enough so I had to go reset everything!

I don't know if this is IE or WW but the WW site has become a massive PITA. they changed some kid of security setting so you need to check in with user name and pw every time you use it. even if you go off the page briefly, even if your computer is never shut down but you just go off to other sites. I switched toChrome just with WW but that won't let me save any recipes ...after I enter all the ingredients to get a point value. completely wasted effort. Not happy!. I am 2 months into my 3 month sign up time and if it doesn't get better I will need to find something else. I quit trying to use the mobile app because it doesn't work well enough on my phone. Deb, there was another service you were using wasn't there? can you remind me of the name?

Lynda I will take a look. Have a lovely trip.

we did a mt bike yesterday, 1 hr 45 min. our favorite spot to ride, a little wetter than usual. it's a bit hilly and the mud made it harder than usual. it's trails in forest near the water so very nice.

Lori, "package day" sounds like a workout in itself. just back from my first PT. I have some minor exercises to do, mostly making sure I keep the joint and shoulder in proper alignment. also got ultrasound and an ice pack applied. wow, I could not believe the paper work required. I skipped a lot of stuff, like DH's BD, SSN. why would they need that? they don't. the insurance is in my name, not his. most of it was redundant and repetitive but I think you could buy a house with less paperwork.

Valerie,

I use www.myfitnesspal.com. I like regular desktop version, that you get when you type the it in your browser, rather than the app. They are totally different. I find the regular site one a lot easier to use.

deb thanks. I just looked in my old pw file, and I still have a pw for this..maybe it'll still work. I wish I knew what is wrong with WW because it keeps me accountable but is becoming way too much aggravation to use. maybe this is like WW where the phone app is awkward and the desktop version is ( used to be) pretty simple.

Good evening ladies!

Today was legs so I did Cathe Live Long and Strong Legs from this morning's live class.

I'll have to look into fitnesspal. I know a couple of people that use it and really like it. Right now the only fitness app I use is the one that syncs with my fitbit. I like that I can see where I am for steps. Keeps me accountable. When the apple watch comes out I may be tempted to buy it. It will be tough for me not too!!!!

Valerie...I agree with you about all the paperwork! I do not know why they would need DH's info. Good for you leaving it blank. Nice mtn boke ride. It was in the high 20's here today and I thought it was nice!!!!

Hi to Judy, Josie and Lynda!

Good morning & Happy Friday!

Today I did one of the Cardio Coach workouts on the treadmill...love Coach Sean.

Valerie, I really like MFP...Judy is on it too...Like I mention above, I started with the regular desktop version, got used to that so that I could enter and get though very quickly. When I got the app on my iPad, it was totally different, and I was not happy. I opened up on the ipad (the traditional way of keying the name in the browser) and then saved the shortcut on the desktop of the iPad so it is the same as using the regular computer. Try that..I bet WW is the same with an app that is nothing like their regular site. I hear you on the paperwork ...I get tons of stuff sent to me each time I have a DR visit or blood work etc.

Lori, great job on the leg workout! ...maybe when I retire and have more time, I will look into the Live workouts. I thought the Apple watch was out already...shows how "in-tune I am with tech stuff. I will be happy to get an iPhone 4 or 5 when I have to get my own phone. I am looking at that Straight Talk that Walmart offers. No contract, $45 a month for unlimited data, texts and phone. You buy a phone outright from them ( or have your own) If you buy from them I think they are all refurbished..that is why you can get a iPhone 4 or 5. You can get the 6 but they are a lot more.

Hi to Josie, Judy,

No class tonight. ( Yay!)..

anyone doing anything fun this weekend?

Good evening ladies!

Today I did tabata barre which was tough after my leg workout yesterday. Yesterday's live class was cathe all by herself. During the live class her camera man passed out. He is fine but obviously they needed to stop filming and make sure he was taken care of. She had sent everyone home and then later she had time inbetween classes to refilm with just her doing the class. I really enjoyed it and wonder if this is what her one on ones will be when they are up an running.

Deb...$45 a month for unlimited sounds like a great plan. Apple watch is suppose to come out soon. They announced them a few months back. The more I read about them I know I will be aplle to wait. The battery life is the killer for me. Only a couple of hours with heavy use. So if I am tracking my walks with Chester it would doie soon after. For the price I can wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation until they can have it last longer.

Valerie...how is your shoulder a couple days out from the shot?

Any plans this weekend ladies? We are expecting a snow storm tomorrow late evening so I'll have some running around tomorrow before hand then snow max on Sunday.

Have a great weekend all!

Lori it doesn't hurt where it was hurting for the last couple months. I got a little sore in a specific spot from the very minor exercises I did. the main issue is I think the biceps tendon. there are 2, and the discomfort is right where one of them is located. so the general rotator cuff discomfort seems to be relieved. I can sleep without discomfort. I am going to do my exercises shortly, then ice it. my next appt is Monday.

well, I guess that's a drawback with a live show..... if there's a problem, it's there to see. I took yesterday and today off... legs needed a break from all the riding.

Hi Everyone,

Tuesday I did a long Spinerval, 2 hours and 38 miles. After that I did KCM's Your Healthy Back. Wednesday I did Turbo Barre. Yesterday and today I did an hour of indoor cycling and today I did Your Healthy Back again. I really like that DVD. It's like a combination of stretching and yoga with a little ab work mixed in. It's not really a workout, more like a physical therapy session.

Deb-I really have to be careful with deadlifts too. I have hurt my low back a few times doing them. DH has an iPhone 4s and he loves it. He has no desire to get a new one.

Valerie-Great ride! I can't wait to get back outside. Some people around here do ride outside through winter, but I
don't think I will ever be one of them. I'm glad your shoulder is getting better.

Lori-It sounds like you did get a workout at work. I use myfitnesspal too. I really like it. I know that I have been more consistent with my eating habits since I've been using it. Just knowing that I am going to be recording everything I eat seems to keep me from going off track too much.
I will be looking at the Apple watch too, but like you, I think I will wait for the second or third generation. The battery issue is a big problem and hopefully they will get it resolved.

We are supposed to get snow on Sunday so we will be running errands tomorrow. Nothing too special planned.

Hi to Lynda and Josie!

Judy

Good morning & Happy Weekend,

Not much going on here....HouseMax, making dog food, and agility class this morning. At least the weather is cooperating, no wind, no rain or snow. High 20's I guess for today. If winter was like today, I could live with it better.

Lori, that is horrible about the camera man passing out! Wow, Cathe must have been shocked at first....did they just shut off the camera right away? How did you find out that it would be on later? I am still skeptical about the Walmart phone plan, like there are some hidden things that you only find out once you are on it, but it is a month to month pay plan, so you can cancel any time. I would wait for the 2nd or 3rd generation Apple watch for sure!

Valerie, glad your shoulder is better....the exercises you are doing are PT ones I assume?

Judy, great workouts! I guess an iPhone 4 is still better than my DH...he still has an old flip phone! The one he has is still selling because it is waterproof...all the fishing guys use these...

Hi to Josie, and the "spa relaxing" Lynda,

take care,

Judy that is mind blowing. I am hoping to do an hour on a spin bike today, but 2 is too much for me. I don't think anything of 2 hours outside though.

deb the exercises are so minor...take about 10 min to do 2 sets. use a band and on some a 1 lb weight. movements with my elbow tucked to me side, more rom than anything. I am following directions. I got into this spot by overdoing and I'm not repeating that.
I wish I could go back to a handy little flip phone. worked well, compact, buttons worked, calls worked. predictable. I loved mine. I had no clue the smart phone would be so aggravating to use. I count down the days where I can switch to an iphone. I hope I'm not disappointed.

DH got a migraine yesterday and was an absolute bear all day. ornery, angry, like it was my fault. no matter what. hopefully today will be better.

Deb-DH still has a little Motorola flip phone, he uses for a "running phone" now. $10 a month for the line. He doesn't like to run with his iPhone.

Valerie-the best phone I ever had, before the iPhone, was the Samsung "Sync" flip phone. I loved that phone! My first smart phone was a Samsung Omnia and it was the worst phone I have ever had. Nothing worked right, especially phone calls. It was a Windows based phone. I switched to a Blackberry after that. I liked the Blackberry but I loved the iPhone. I don't think you will be disappointed with it.

judy that is the main sticking point for me.... hard to use for calls! push the green phone icon to make a call and 75% of the time it doesn't happen. says "copy to clipboard". stop and redo 3-4x, finally it will dial. answering is not much better. push the icon as it rings and it ignores me. push, push, tap tap, like I'm not there. when it's on your ear where you can hear, no one can hear what you're saying, and if they hear me talking, then I can't hear them. ooooo I hate this thing.
everyone I know loves their iphone though. sometimes I think there's something wrong with my fingers because it's as if the phone surface can't feel my touch. it's always ugly smudgy dirty looking. the navigator works well, I will give it that.
ETA did a full pedal power workout today. that's my first full hour one! then core 1. then the shoulder workout which doesn't really amount to much. but total 90 min. the PP really keeps my HR up in the 140-150 zone most of the time. tough but not over the top.
