Cathlete
just getting the new thread started. I think I have Chest, Back & Shoulders today (not the Burn Set one). I will check back later.

Good morning ( again),

I just finished X-Train Chest, Shoulders, & Back...nice workout. I am liking this series a lot. Even the cardio stuff, which I have to modify, but it's still good.

Joan, sometimes you have to be creative with the rotations...I know I am not following exactly either, and am doing the 30 day one with Ride...although I don't have Ride. I wanted a shorter one so this worked better for me.

Valerie, no, the Cathe crew is not perfect, but damn close! I would take any of their bodies, and trade mine in! LOL. As for MFP, if you want to add a meal or dish that you make, you can easily do it, add each ingredient, and then it is in your food list for next time. Not sure why you couldn't do oatmeal...I have mine entered as 1/2 cup, 1/2 scoop of protein powder, 2 Tbs of walnuts...all I have to do is go to My Foods and select it each time I want to log that. Really easy. If you want to type the ingredients of your Sheppard's pie, I will go make it for you and name it, make it available to MFP members and you can grab it from there.

Lori, how much sand does it take to fill one of those bags? It must be a lot!

Garance, comfort Sunday tonight? what's on the menu?

Off to get breakfast, coffee, ( more!), and start some stuff around here...

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Burn Sets for Chest, Back, and Shoulders (50:43). No way I can match some of Cathe's weights on this one. Maybe I will improve.

Deb, the vet thinks Max has a partially torn ACL, because she thinks he's losing some muscle mass, the MCL is thickening to compensate, and even though he still runs like crazy, she says he just forgets and goes all out. So, he's going in for x-rays on Thursday (he will be sedated for these), and then, if he has a torn ACL, we will have to decide whether to do the operation. She says what often happens is that a dog has the operation and then tears the other ACL! I'm also going to ask my friend in Minnesota who is a vet for advice. Sounds like you are enjoying your mini-vacation very much. Yes, another Comfort Sunday meal with chef-made pastrami (from DH's beef) and raclette. I can't remember what the other courses are, but it's supposed to be a NY deli theme.

Valerie, I'm with you on where the weight seems hardest to lose--the middle. "In my salad days" (quoting Shakespeare's Cleopatra--love that line--the rest of which is "when I was green in judgment") I had a very small waist, but since menopause, it just seems to have thickened, despite all the abs work I do. Cathe's crew is definitely very varied in size, shape, and they all look less perfect than the teams on the Firm workouts, Brazil Butt Lift, Physique 57, or Rockin' Models--all of which are very intimidating and/or depressing, depending on my mood.

Lori, let us know how you like your bag. Is it like those bags the football players push around? GO PATRIOTS!

Hi ladies!

Garance I didn't even come close either to cathe's weights doing this workout. Wow it was tough. I did 15 to 20 lbs to her 30 to 35 lbs. not sure if I will ever get to the 35lbs but it is something to strive for. yeah pats!!! We are watching the game now. I am on my ipad typing this during commercials. :)

Took chester for our walk and he was in heaven. He dragged me the entire way. Was such a great workout for both of us.

Love the heavy bag. Did the hardstrike tabatas today after the walk. Was about 13 minutes long and is an awesome upper body workout. Felt it in the abs too. Hoping she does more of these workouts. There is a 20 minute one included in MMA boxing. Bought this dvd when it came out and I never did it! Looks like I will finally try it out.

The stand took five 50lb bags of sand @ $2.50 a bag so was pretty cheap to fill. Thank goodness my son did this for me because there was no way I was able to lug all that sand in then fill the darn thing.

Chat with you all tomorrow!

Deb, I use 1/2 cup dry oats and I didn't see where that was on the list. it sounded like a half cup after cooking and I'm sure this is more. the shephards pie is just ONE recipe. I have many dozens that I use with some regularity. there's no way in the world I can enter all of them. I am thinking I can use this occasionally, but I'm not typing in all those ingredients. if I were eating a sub sandwich for lunch, that would be OK, it's just a click, but I almost never eat prepared food so it would be a massive typing job.

We went xc skiing yesterday and today. yesterday was not good, way too many downed trees. it was a lot of work, climbing over and crawling under, and little actual skiing. we gave up after 2 hours. still good calorie burn. also very cold out. today was better. went back to the place we ere unable to get to last week, and sure enough, someone had sawed up the tree blocking the road, and we were able to drive to deep snow. did about 4 hours up and down, very cold out, lovely snow and a lot of work. also downed trees on this one but nothing like the road yesterday.

I also did 15-20 lbs to cathe's 30-35 in Burn Sets. . I did 25 on one move and think I can go to 25 on a few others, but the first time thru a workout I don't "over reach". I like that we know what she's using ( so i don't have to stop the DVD and try and read the end of the dumbell) but it doesn't make me overdo what I know I can manage.

Yes, when I was young if I lost 5 lbs, it came off in the mid section. the tiny torso was fine but made clothing fit a problem. I've lost a total of 7-8 over the last year now and it doesn't seem to go from any one place. same proportions overall but a little smaller? I'm focusing on 5 more lbs.

I also would 'take" any one of their bodies. I've never been a fan of workouts where everyone is fashion model "perfect". I'll be the best I can be... but having a bunch of "perfect people" is not motivating to me, and not a reasonable goal for most people. Cathe's people are certainly fit and look great, but they don't look like they came straight out of "central casting". they look like real people who are fit and work at it. It's one iof the things that drew me in right away.

Good morning,

I just finished 30 minutes of CC #4. Today was "Ride" in the X-Train rotation. so I subbed CC. This may mess up my other workouts, but whatever.

Garance, I hope Max is ok and doesn't need the surgery. I think some dogs can heal from this without it, but I think they need to stay quiet, no jumping, running etc for a long time, and that doesn't seem to be what Max would/could do. I also heard that some dogs get the surgery on one leg, then tear the other, but I think that Max being so young, probably has a good ACL on the other side. Yes, enjoyed the 4 days off tremendously. I am so looking forward to retirement...( I think I have said that before LOL). I just wish I could get SS before age 62, and that medical coverage wasn't so costly for retirees.

Amazon is having a 50% off sale today only on Lucky Brand Jeans....!!

Lori, wow that sand project sounds daunting...glad your son was there to help.

Valerie, it really doesn't take too much time to input the recipes...if you are like me, you probably eat the same things a lot, and once they are in, it's just a "click" and they are added to your log. Check this out....you can see all my meals here that I repeat a lot...including my oatmeal meal set up...hope the link works...it's oatmeal, protein powder, walnuts, made with water:

Free Calorie Counter, Diet & Exercise Journal | MyFitnessPal.com..

I don't know how you match any of Cathe's weights in these workouts....I must be a wimp! I do have to go heavier, and now that we have worksheets, I can mark that down for the next workout...I'm do what Valerie does, go light until I "scope out" the exercise and see what it's like before going heavy.

Well it's back to the grind for me....take care,

Good morning ladies,

After my workout on Saturday, I was tired and relaxed the rest of the day. I guess waking up at 5 every morning finally got to me. On Sunday I took a rest day and went grocery shopping. It has been very cold in LA and we are not used to it :(
My DH and I put the spinning bike together, so it is ready for me to do a workout this evening.

Deb, I got the DVD on Saturday. I just put the check in the mail this morning. Thank you so much?

I seems like we are all sticking to our workouts :) I lost 3 pounds so far.

Have a great day everybody!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Cardio Leg Blast Premix 1 (68 min.). Too long for me, and the core work was (or felt) endless. I'm glad tomorrow's workout is SHORT.

Deb, not sure what we will do about Max if his ACL is partially torn. It would be hellacious to try to keep him quiet. He is such an active dog--just flies around the farm like crazy and then utterly poops out in his favorite spot--DH's truck. Like Gollum, that front seat for Max is "Mine!" He was furious with me when I sat there and we went to get our Christmas tree. The window is all smooched up from his nose.

Lori, so happy that the Pats won yesterday, but poor Gronkowski! If they make it into the Super Bowl, this would be the second time he's too injured to play. Sounds like the bag is a hit.

A vegetarian Shepherd's pie? Can't imagine a sheepherder being pleased with that. Just kidding Valerie.

Good morning all!

Cardio leg blast this morning. Was not able to do the core work as I ran out of time. Will do the core when I get home. Sometimes I need to break the workouts up when they are long like this one was.

Josie - congrats on 3lbs!!!!!

Valerie - I love shepherds pie! Never thought to do a veggie version. Perhaps I would eat it more often knowing it was a little healthier for me.

Garance - Dogs are funny. They all have their own personalities! Hope Max will be able to stay put long enough to heal. Poor thing. Very happy for our Pats! Sad for Gronk though. He must be so aggravated.

Have a great day!!!

Good morning,

No workout today, a "rest day" because of late class on Monday nights....I was up anyway at 4:00 to let a couple of hounds out to wander in the night. I should have stayed up and done a workout, but I was exhausted.

Josie, enjoy your new spin bike!

Garance, I hope Max's x-rays turn out ok. Did you speak with your vet friend?

Lori, good job on Cardio Leg Blast...I don't remember the core work, but if you and Garance say it is too long, I probably cut it short too. Tomorrow is Super Cuts for me. How was that one?

Valerie, did you go on a hike yesterday?

Hopefully an easier day at work, and then home to watch Downton Abbey!

Take care,

We xc skied two days, snowshoed yesterday. sunday was lovely, blue skies, dry snow that sparkled. so dry it sounded like skiing thru corn flakes. snowshoeing wassn't that good , snow had changed back to solid chunks so we didn't stay out that long. still, a good workout all 3 days. sunday was 4 hours.

No Deb, I hardly ever make the same thing. hundreds of possibilities. breakfast is consistent but that's it. and I couldn't figure how to get that entered correctly! I'll look again.
Sherhards pie is a repeater, couple times a year. It's onion sauteed in a tablespoon of olive oil. then 2-4 chopped carrots, about a pound of broccoli, 3/4 cup tomatoes, bay leaf, half a bag of frozen spinach. cook until vegies are soft enough, about 15 min. I usually cook broccoli separately so it's not overcooked. top with mashed potatoes & bake until hot. I was using up some mashed potatoes so that part was not generous this time. the dish is very low cal. it's a favorite broccoli dish for me. that's a general description, I can be more specific if it sounds like anything anyone else would like. I don't eat red meat, haven't for over 30 years. I didn't eat chicken or fish for most of that time either, now I'll eat a little of those but I've never been able to eat a big chunk of protein and feel right about it.
Hope max is OK. I can't imagine how to immobilize an active dog. just the cat collar for a week was a major challenge, and I'd think ACL surgery would require at least a month or more of "restraint".

need to get off to yoga, then a workout later , not sure what.

Josie, how is the spin bike? what brand did you get?

Hi Ladies,

I did the pure cardio DVD today. It is short but very intense. I was still sweating after my shower ;) I love my bike and the spinning DVD; I did the first one that Cathe made.

Valerie, the brand of the bike is Exerpeutic LX7 training cycle with computer monitor and heart pulse sensors. I got a great deal from Sport Authority, free shipping plus 10% off. The original price was $349.99 and by the time all the discounts were applies it came to $341.00.

I will be back later.

Josie

Hi ladies!

This morning was Bis and Tris Burn sets. Was only 37 minutes long and really flew by. I really liked this workout but I have a lot of improvement to do if I am ever going to match Cathe's weights! My triceps are the weakest muscle for me. I have made great strides in strength but still have a ways to go!

Deb - I loved super cuts and felt great afterwards. Works everything and was fun to do. I have no set day that is considered my rest day. I usually let my body decide what day it will be.

Yesterday when I got home I quickly did the core workout from the morning then decided to do the 100 rep hip thrust since I went thru the effort of putting my workout clothes on! I was done before you know it and felt like I really had a complete second workout. Those hip thrust are tough and I only use 20lbs!

Josie that is a great price on the bike. I have toyed with the idea of a spin bike. My husband just bought an recumbent bike which is good for him (he is recooperating from a broken ankle). I have tried it a few times but much prefer an upright one. Perhaps when my son moves out and we get the basement back I will have the room to expand my workout area!

Have a great afternoon!

Lori

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did Burn Sets Bis and Tris with core premix (47 min.).

Deb, I'm waiting until after the x-rays to call my friend. She is also, I think, still in New Zealand, so I might just e-mail her and ask what she thinks. She's met Max so she has a really good idea of how active he is. I recorded Downton Abbey too, because I was watching the Golden Globes on Sunday night. I will watch it tonight as well.

I finally went to see The Hobbit. I was going to do this a month ago, but I was too depressed from the tragedy at Sandy Hook. Very enjoyable film, especially the episode with Gollum and Bilbo. I also like the Gandalf advice to Bilbo about courage--it takes more to know when to spare a life than to take a life.

Lori, I do 15s for bis and 10s for tris, although I think I could start higher on the tris next time because I just kept going on the third set to failure. I was impressed with the burn on the band overhead. Phew!

Sounds like the bike is a hit, Josie!

I also did the bi's and tris from burn sets. very fast.. expected it to be longer. I started too low and increased as I went along. my triceps are pretty strong for some reason and usually don't get sore. I did not get to failure on most of the exercises but after 17 reps I stopped. I wrote it down though so will know what to go to. I can't go from 15 to 20 though, too big a jump. will us eweighted gloves. 10 to 12, probably. the overhead tricep one with resistance band was nothing so I need to get a tougher band. I like the core workout on that disk too! could do most of it except for two moves that will need work.
Wish I'd watched the Golden globes... just reading some of the lines from Fey & Poehler it must have been a laugh riot!

Josie, what a great deal you got. hope it works smoothly. DH has used our bike a lot, I've been less consistent so far.

Good morning,

It's Hump Day!

I did Super Cuts this morning, had to modify a few of the exercises, and slowed down the DVD player for the sit up/push up combo at the end. I wish they had these workouts when I was 30!

Valerie, the nice thing about MFP, is that if you put in a "meal" ( a certain combination of foods), you can just use it from the list whenever you need to, and also, if you are like me and eat the same meals, ( I eat the same breakfast and lunch every day during the week), there is a quick tool "copy from yesterday" that is great for that. Give me the real recipe with measurements, for the Sheppard's Pie and I will enter it. Make sure you say how many servings are in it...Love the "slow" feature on the DVD player, thanks for pointing that out. I would never be able to do those sit up/push ups...

Josie, glad you are enjoying the bike!

Lori, my rest days are dictated by what I do the night before...late classes means I cannot get up at 4:00 am to do a workout...good job on matching Cathe's weights, I always drop down one from hers as a guide.

Garance, DH saw The Hobbit in Imax format and said it is the best movie he ever saw. That is saying a lot from him. As for Downton, it looks like it's going to be a good season! I did order the DVD's, they won't be released until the end of the month.

Off for more coffee, and logging into MFP..

Take care,

Deb, I'll type up the s. pie recipe later today.

maybe I can get the hang of it MFP. I eat the same breakfast but can't figure out how to enter. If I use one half cup of dry uncooked oats, it makes about a cup cooked. I also add about 1/3 cup wheat bran. about 25 calories according to the package. and then about 1/2 cup of almond milk, 90 cal per cup. usually some raspberries maybe 8. I got stuck when I couldn't find plain dry oatmeal ... crazy. isn't that the most common kind? sorry, it was the first thing I tried and I thought it would be easy and got put off when I couldn't find the easiest thing.

yeah, I look at Cathe's weight and drop down one "unit". if she's at 20, I'll try 15. if she's at 12, I'll go to 10. and so on. at least for the first time thru. the weighted gloves will get used here to ease the transition upward. I can't jump 5 lbs... from 15 to 20.

my last exposure to LOTR was enough for a while, not sure I want to see The Hobbit at all.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Valerie, and Lori--

This morning I did premix 6 on Legs (48:37 min.). Last week I had doms for two days after this premix, so I thought it would be a good idea to do it again.

Deb, I watched the second episode of Downton Abbey last night. Poor Edith! Or....maybe not, because I wouldn't want to marry that boring old man. Well, The Hobbit is not the best movie I have ever, ever seen, but I was surprised at how quickly it went by for such a long film. Ends with a shot of the sleeping dragon waking up to prepare us for the next installment. Tomorrow it's x-rays for Max.

Snowing here today, and we are expecting an Arctic blast later in the week. But once again, this is a mild winter compared to the past.

Hi Ladies,

Today’s DVD was Plyometric cardio circuit. This one is hard and I had to modify a couple of the exercises that had a lot of jumping. One thing that I love about these DVD’s is the warm-ups and stretching that he does on each workout.

I will be spinning this evening, but just a premix.

After our staff meeting yesterday, I have decided to retire in June. I can’t take much more of the madness. I used to love my job, but I’m surrounded by idiots!! I plan to let them know at the beginning of May.

Josie

Hi ladies!

Very snowy here today which made for a very slow drive to work today. Garance sounds like you had the same in your area.

Valerie funny you should feel that way about LOTR I have seen the movies several times and read the books. I am also currently listening to the 2nd on audible. I know crazy isn't it?? You either love them or you don't!

Today I did Butts and Guts (minus the guts) instead of Legs. Really like Legs but love B&G. Legs will be next week. Wanted to finish up with delt work to stay with the rotation but due to time restrains I needed to stop. Was my intent to do the delts when I got home today but instead I am typing this and having a glass of wine. Oh well I will make it up tomorrow. :)

Have a great night!
