Good morning,

Heading down to the basement to do todays HIIT workout...I started on the next rotation, which is the same workouts, but she gives 2 months worth. I don't really care for the second month, she goes back to 6 days a week, and starts adding things on to make the workouts longer. That is the reason why I don't follow her usual monthly rotations.

Yes, it was pretty disappointing, all that stress and not even one qualifying leg towards her title. But glad to not get stuck or in an accident with the weather that we are having.

Lori, LOL on your comment : " Well off to eat pizza and gain weight"...:)

Hope everyone is having a great weekend!

Need some suggestions for some good TV series to watch, I keep checking on Amazon Prime for Fargo to be offered free, but still not happening. I like the ones that were on FX like Damages, and really like The Good Wife...

any suggestions?

I'm forgetting what you've seen. I'm thinking you liked 6 feet under? we're watching one from 06-07 called Intelligence that's a good crime drama. only 2 seasons but interesting and not real "obvious". only problem is no subtitles and we miss a bit. we've watched several British ones... Line of Duty, MI-5, and another one with Idris Elba but I forget the name. I don't have Prime so I don't know what's available. we tried Weeds and Californication unsuccessfully. Yuck. Homeland? Magic City? Boardwalk? Justified? not 100% complete favorites but definitely watchable, and there's unfortunately only one Good Wife. . Manhattan is pretty good. when we want something light we've watched Medium with Patricia Arquette. that one is more like standard TV but if we want something light and uncomplicated, it fits but you need to like the actress herself. Yep, Fargo was good. Newsroom is a little heavy handed but I liked it mostly.
One thing we've found is a lot of series start out very intense and then settle down to develop characters so the "pilot" is not always a representative of what will follow. I have not done well with comedies especially family ones.

Hi Ladies,

I feel 100% normal again and can't wait to start training with our trainer next Tuesday. I also signed up for the bootcamp and have my orientation on January 24th, he requested a Dr. release form because in over 55. That made me feel old :(. I will show him!

I went for a walk with my friend on Friday and that is pretty much all I've done .

Deb, I don't have a recommendation for you on a tv series. I'm trying not to get hooked on anything new. I want to read more this year :)

Valerie, when I do the ALC ride we use a lot of sanitizing wipes and liquid sanitizer and by the end of the week my hands are so dry and it takes a month to get hem back to normal. I take my heavy creams but nothing works. Hope that you find a solution soon.

Judy, how do you like your bike trainer? Which one did you get?

Hi to Lori and Garance!

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did all of BarreAmped Bootcamp (72 min.).

Deb, that's too bad about the trial. Will they try to reschedule? I would recommend Big Love, Band of Brothers, The Sopranos, and 24. I also liked the first season of Orphan Black. I think all of these are available on Prime. I also liked Enlightened, but it might just be my taste. Band of Brothers is a series my sons loved.

Lori, good for you on finally getting to see The Hobbit film. I guess that's all we will get from Tolkien. Great game yesterday. Yay Pats!

Josie, glad you are feeling 100%. I'm sure you will show that Bootcamp instructor what you can do.

Hi to Judy and Valerie!

Good evening ladies!

This morning I did the RWH upper body circuit followed up with 20 minutes of SB Barre. The RWH moves along quick and was over before you know it. Like you Deb, I feel like this is almost a total body workout.

My DS has been here most of the day hanging with us watching football. It has been a nice day.

Deb...before my eye issue I started with the 2 month rotation. After feeling better I switched to the rotation I am doing now. Instead of doing the six why not just stick with the 5? You seemed to be doing awesome with this schedule. When I finish this rotation I may start the January rotation and do it for a couple of weeks.

Josie...glad you are better! That is great you will have a trainer. And you are right I think she will be completely surprised with your fitness level!

Lynda...that game was tense yesterday! Yeah for the Pats!

We have yet to finish Fargo. We watched the first 6 episodes but haven't watched the rest. One of these days we will get to it. What we saw we liked just need to find the time to watch the rest!

Have a great night all!

Happy Monday! Ugh....

Got up and did one of the Low Impact HIIT workouts...after about 4 hours sleep, if that. I could not sleep last night, much tossing and turning. It was Sunday so it figures.

Valerie, thanks for the recommendations...."Justified" is free on Prime, so I put it on my Watch List ..others are not...at least not yet. I am not sure what Amazon's "rhyme or reason" is for why some are on there free and others are not.

Josie, glad you are feeling better and back to the workouts.

Lynda, thanks for the TV recommendations, "Big Love" is free on Prime. I kind if knew what it was aboutm but reading the description makes me wonder how it got so popular....I trust your judgment so will probably start to watch that at some point. I put it on my Watch List. no reschedule of the trial...it's just the way it is....a huge venue, lots of $$$$ to pay for it, so the clubs that sponsor have all kinds of clauses in the application that lets them off the hook if something like this happens and the trial is cancelled. I only lost $30.....I can't imagine some of the others that had multiple dogs entered in multiple events. I am sure they are not happy.

Lori, How is your eye? back to normal now? do you have something to use to prevent it from happening again? I will stay with the 5 workout rotation...she has the one month, then does the 2 month one with Month 1 being 5 workouts a week, that is what I am doing now. They are getting easier, I am amazed.

Hi to Judy,

Work, then late class tonight, if it's not cancelled due to weather, it has been snowing most of the night...
Take care and stay safe!

Deb, sorry you couldn't sleep! I hate that dragged out feeling after you spend the 'time" but don't feel rested. I've had issues lately too. my shoulder bothers me at night. I'm so used to sleeping on my side... it keeps waking me up. I've had enough though. it's not getting better so I will try to see orthopedics this week.

I like the actor in "Justified". ( Timothy?). I agree with Lynda on "Big Love" and "Enlightened". "Band of Brothers" too. Enlightened is two seasons because it didn't get renewed but it was hilarious. DH didn't like it though. Give a try... knowing everyone won't like the same thing. Everyone in the world (except me) liked The Sopranos. I could not watch "24" after the first few but it's was very popular.

I did Lower Body Blast last night. then watched the Golden Globes. wow. it's a hard adjustment after mostly commercial free TV. Drove me crazy. Anyone else watch?

Josie.. I bet they will be pleased seeing what kind of shape you're in! I'm between a rock and a hard place on the hand issue. I don't want to get sick from viruses but choices are limited. I'm going to compare ingredients in wipes vs sanitizing gel. it's weird because I used those products all year without a problem, although my first choice was soap and water if available.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Kari Anderson's Sweat Express II (58:00).

I watched the Golden Globes last night and thought some of the awards were strange, others very good. I really thought Boyhood was way, way too long and many of its sentiments total drivel, so I don't know how it managed to beat out Selma. But I haven't seen Selma yet. Arquette was very good, though, in Boyhood. I also didn't like the Wes Anderson film that won for comedy/musical, but I don't think I have ever truly enjoyed any of his films. I thought Birdman should have won, except I don't really understand why it was categorized this way. Keaton's character, Riggan Thomson, is going through an existential crisis and the ending is unclear (no spoilers from me here) and reminiscent of the ending to 81/2. Keaton won, though, and I thought he deserved to win.

I went to see Force Majeure yesterday, a Norwegian film. Excellent film that reminded me a lot of Ingmar Bergman's films--especially Scenes from a Marriage and Shame. Really harrowing, emotionally fraught scenes between a husband and wife (which then spreads to another couple on holiday), and you just kept waiting for something bad to happen on those ski slopes.

Deb, Big Love may surprise you. I thought it was going to weird me out, too, but the 'family' dynamic of the wives is very compelling.

Valerie, that's what happened with my shoulder as well. It wouldn't seem to bother me a lot during the day, but I couldn't sleep with the pain at night.

Snowing here. Ugh--I'm sick of winter.

I was thinking Boyhood was the movie you didn't like and was surprised it won.
Deb, I used to work with a mostly Mormon men. they were conservative but no plural marriage... Big Love was fascinating. I'd watch it again. good distinct characters and somehow they make it work.

Did 40 on the spin bike and core 1 abs. trying to get better at spinning. made an orthopedic appt for next Monday with my name to the call list if they get a cancellation.

Good morning,

Skipped class last night, it was so cold that once I got in the house from work, there was no way I was going out again. I decided to take the rest day today and "sleep- in" but of course, the dogs were not hearing any of that. Up at 2;30 to go out, then again at 3:00...so not just a nice sleep-in.

Valerie, I think you are right to go to the orthopedic DR and see if they can do something for your shoulder. Maybe a cortisone shot would help. I guess an Amazon show won some Golden Globe award and it is free on Prime. Can't think of the name right now.

Lynda, I put Big Love in my Watch List, along with Justified and if Enlightened is free, I will put that one in as well. Those should hold be over for a while, with Downton and The Good Wife. Was the Wes Anderson film Budapest?

Did anyone watch Homeland? Thoughts?

Hi to Josie, Lori & Judy,

It's a balmy 7 degrees here with a wind chill of -6
snowman.gif

Stay warm and drive safely!

Take care,

The orthopedic office is becoming a regular telephone stop.... the receptionist knew me right away! there is a small risk of tendon damage with the shot making it worse, so I want an eval to make sure exactly where the problem is. maybe PT will be enough? might be bicep tendonitis rather than rotator cuff. seems the discomfort has moved locations. regardless. this is long enough & I've done all the conservative measures.

Homeland. We watched it and liked it with reservations. the characters are a little extreme, sometimes to the point where it's just silly. and then there will be sections that are believable and excellent. so maybe a bunch of different writers working at cross purposes? I'd call if uneven. Claire Danes is a good actress but some of her mannerisms and stupid behavior (on occasion) got on my nerves after a while. the POW is played by Damien Lewis well, but we'd seen the same actor just before in Band of Brothers and I just could not get him seeming right in this role. he is the POW and his family behave like total idiots most of the time. so some sections of it were quite good and others I could barely watch. maybe someone else can chime in? I watched it, it was entertaining enough, but I would not re watch it. but again, it's been quite popular so maybe I'm being too tough on it.

Deb maybe the doggies need drugs! I'd be seriously ticked off at a 2:30 wake up. I bet at 6 degrees they make it a fast trip in and out. could you install a doggie door so they can go in and out when they want?

We have a La Monde spin bike. we bought it a few years ago. at the time it seemed things were either elite models or $200 walmart specials. the la monde was a little more than we wanted to go but it's a nice bike and very solid. it was $1300 or so. we got into a price bidding war between two stores and came out winners. not many stores even had spin bikes. maybe it was a regional thing? DH uses it regularly. I use it sometimes. he quit using clip ons so it's easier for me to use it without getting out the screw driver and switching pedals back and forth.
Judy, cousin just bought the same bike trainer but he couldn't get his folding bike to mount. it looks terrific. since we ride outdoors most of the year, we wanted a separate bike inside in the basement.

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did Flex Train (56:36).

Deb, yes, the Anderson film is The Grand Budapest Hotel. The Amazon show is Transparent and it's about a father who comes out as a transgender person and begins his transformation into a woman. EW gave it great reviews. One of the surprise wins was an actress in Jane the Virgin. EW has been giving it great reviews too. I noticed that they (the CW network) were immediately capitalizing on this win and started reruns of it last night. I DVR'd it, and I will let you know if it's any good. I think I watched the first two seasons of Homeland and lost interest in season 3. It became more and more preposterous IMO. I think it was supposed to have recovered some of its original glory this season. Is it your paper delivery that's waking the dogs? Phew! 2:30 A.M. is probably my best sleep time. Watched my DA and GW episodes last night. I guess I don't really understand why Lady Mary is regarded as being so beautiful and desirable. To me, she looks painfully thin and sort of average pretty. I guess those British men liked them that way (?). It looks like we are returning to the rape plot from last season with the appearance of a witness to the footman's death. I think DA may be losing some of its luster.

Valerie, I hope you get some help with your shoulder. I did PT for a couple weeks because my orthopedist thought it might be frozen shoulder. I think this just exacerbated what was really tendonitis which became clear from my MRI. Anyway, good luck with getting some relief from the pain.

Josie, you will have to tell us about your personal trainer.

Hi to Lori (gosh, it's so cold here!) and Judy.

Good afternoon ladies!

Yesterday was snow max for us. We received a couple of inches and enough that we felt we should shovel before it freezes and since DH is working late tonight decided to sleep in and do Tabatacise this evening.

Lynda...yes it has been sooo cold here. We are hating this weather! Just not enjoyable at all. I agree with you about DA on everything you said and was just chatting with a coworker about it this morning. I caught up with my 2 episodes last night. I found the two episodes to be kind of dull. They need to ramp things up a bit and hoping by the 3rd they do.

Valerie...I had bicep tears and tendonitis in my forearm a few years back. It was so painful and took forever to heal. That was my right arm and it has been great now for a while. Now it is my left shoulder that flares up that is why I am thinking tendonitis as I mentioned a while back. I have some exercises I have been doing but just not consistently. I really need to get better at it. Like you my shoulder has been bugging me off and on for a while now.

Deb...doggies! They always have other plans for us don't they! My eye is 100% back to normal thank God! I was a little concerned with the blurry vision but all is good now. I still have this ointment I put in at night and will continue for another couple of months. A couple of times I fell asleep forgetting to do so and I woke up in a panic afraid to open my eyes as it can happen again anytime. I have a feeling he will want me to continue to use this stuff long after the 3 months. Then during the day he has me on a preservative fee eye drop I need to use several times. I am ok doing all this if it prevents that from ever happening again.

Judy...Holy Crap! I just checked out that bike trainer and that is the cheaper one??? Wow had no idea they were that expensive!

Hi to Josie! Can't wait to hear about your trainer!

Hi Ladies,

The trainer was great. We spent 20 minutes discussing goals and nutrition and she did an assessment on flexibility, and some strength such as squats, lunges and push ups. My DH liked her very much and felt comfortable. She is one of the instructors that teaches body pump at Gold's so she know what I can do, she will work harder on my DH who has not done any strength training in years.

Judy, thank you for the information on the trainer. I'm going to ask around at the ALC web-site to see if anyone wants to sell one. If not i know that I can get a discount at a store near me. I want one because I can use my own road bike working out on the spin bike at home does not give me the same feeling of accomplishment. My DH likes the spin bike and will use it for his cardio.

Lori, glad that your eye is better.

Valerie, I hope that you find a solution to your shoulder problem,

Hi to Deb and Garance!

Josie

Josie we used to have a trainer and used it with our road bikes. our current house layout makes it hard to take road bikes back and forth from the basement but the road bike is WAY more comfortable than the spin bike. I will use it more now that I don't need to change out the pedals.

nothing really very useful on my hand condition. she ordered a few lab tests but mostly I need to keep out of cold water and having wet hands as much as possible. it is resolving. I guess I will be wearing gloves more in the kitchen than I have been. I don't want this repeating. it is resolving without getting as involved as last year, but I do NOT want a re-visit.

Now that I've made an ortho appt, my shoulder seems better!. I'd be happy if it just resolved. I am positive it's just tendonitis not a real "injury". still, if there is anything that will speed healing, I'm up for it. I can't get MRI's because of my pacer. a big drawback but I had no choice. MRI is by far the best imaging and I can't have them anymore.

Lori, I've had only one other time where a shoulder was painful, and it was from reaching behind me into the back seat. I realized it was causing pain, so I don't do that move regularly anymore. amazing how much it affects other body parts. we did a mt bike today, just under 2 hours. work, but a lot of fun. so good to hear your eyes are back to normal.

Homeland keeps getting renewed so there must be avid fans. I don't think TV has to be completely realistic but there are plenty of things that get beyond ridiculous. of course, so does "24' to name another that stretches believability way beyond any kind of reality check. so sometimes I'm entertained, and other times not.

Happy Hump Day for us working stiffs!

I got up and did HIIT Legs...the premix without the Blasts. I don't know how anyone can get through this one with those darn Blass!
weights.gif

It' a balmy -1 here right now.... The wind chill is -14. Brrrr...

Judy, so you just put your outside bike on that Trainer and it turns into a spin bike? Convenient.

Valerie, you could try the PT for a couple of weeks, then decide..Based on yours and Lynda's comments, I will put Homeland on the 2nd tier of my Watchlist. No doggie door here....it would make me crazy thinking of them out there in the middle of the night without me listening or waiting for them....we're in the city remember? LOL. Anything can happen out there. :)

Lynda, mmmm...that show, "Transparent" I think is being offered free on Prime....I'll have to check it out. I think most times it is the paper delivery waking the dogs, but she never comes as early as 2;30. I wonder some time if they really don't do anything when we let them out for the last time. Usually John will go out with them to check, but lately with it being so cold, we have just been opening the door and letting them into the yard. As for DA, I agree, it's getting kind of slow...maybe the return of the rape plot/murder with Bates will spice it up.

Lori, there is a prescription eye med that one of my co-workers had to be on for a while because she was not making tears, and her eyes were very dry....started with an "R" can't remember what it was. Glad your stuff is working.

Josie, that is great that your DH is working out with you and a trainer!

work, and home to hibernate...

Take care,

Hi Deb, Josie, Valerie, Lori, and Judy--

This morning I did RK with 1 lb. gloves (55:15).

Very cold here as well.

I watched the first episode of Jane the Virgin. Not sure I will like it. It feels like a sendup of telenovelas--those long-running Mexican soap operas. Jane, who has vowed to remain a virgin until she marries (because she is the daughter of an unwed mother), is mistakenly artificially inseminated (by a very distracted woman doctor with romantic problems of her own) with a millionaire playboy's semen, and this is his only chance to have a child because of testicular cancer (now cured). His wife, who has overheard him telling another woman that he wants a divorce, wanted the insemination because of a prenup agreement where she would get nothing if she didn't have children. I guess you can see where all the complications will be. The question is, are they worth watching as they play out.

Sounds like you found a great trainer, Josie. How much do you pay her?

Lori, how did you get bicep tears? Was it doing weights? Sounds awful. Looking forward to Sunday's game.

Deb, I hope you find something you like on Amazon Prime. Aren't there some movies you can watch as well?

Valerie, good luck with your shoulder! It's always hard when pain is intermittent.

We did a hike this morning , 3 hours and 10 minutes. 5-6 miles RT. we don't have a lot of snow this year so some close in hikes are snow free and available. was 40-50 degrees until we got up to the lake basin, and there it was colder. we've done this one too often though, so it was for exercise only.

Lynda, I always try to watch more than one pilot episode to see if the series settles into a better pattern. sometimes the first one is way over the top. that sounds very contrived, though.
I'll look for Transparent & Jane the Virgin on Hulu though I doubt it will be there this quickly. Funny about DA... I don't get the fuss over Mary either. She's pleasant /average looking, and seems more grounded in reality than a lot of the young women but I find it a stretch that all these men are totally smitten by her while Edith struggles for attention.

Restasis is the eye med I think.

Deb, I assumed you have a fenced yard for them. If it's not safe for them to go in an out at will, then forget it. I've heard of more problems with other animals using the doggie door to get in.
