Good Morning,

Just had my protein shake, and oatmeal after doing Muscle Max Total Body timesaver pre-mix. This is a time saver and it still is around 58 minutes. whew!

My rotation planned ( same as it was last week until I got the cough/cold) is as follows:

Sun: MM total body timesaver
Mon: CC # 7 45 minutes
Tues: MM legs only plus core
Wed: Kickmax timesaver premix
Thurs: MM upper body only
Fri: CC # 3 30 min

This will let me work each body part twice and get in 3 cardio workouts, 2 being HIIT and one steady state. But as they say, " all the best plans..." etc.

Garance, Valerie, I don't wear a bra with the workout top, just the top, but I get good support ones at Dick's sporting goods. I take lots of supplements too. I have never told my DR all of them because I was afraid he would look at me funny or something...but he is amazed at my high HDL numbers. I think its the almonds I eat every day and the oatmeal. Plus I take fish oil. Not looking forward to any show except DWTS which I have not heard a thing about yet, have you?

Joan, I used to use viactive too, but decided to take calcium with magnesium and vit D instead. I take 2 calcium pills a day, one in am and one in PM. Yes. Kelly C-M has some good short workouts if you want to do a good, simple 3 weight day, 3 cardio days rotation.

Cathy, hope you are feeling better....which timesaver did you do?

Off to clean Fritz's cage. Joy..

It was 5 degrees here a little while ago....brrrr....

Hi Deb and any later posters--

This morning I did disk 25 for chest and back (68 min.). I must admit it's kind of boring, but I did feel pretty fatigued by the time I reached the last 8 reps on the final set.

I previewed my BBL disks and am really looking forward to using them. Tomorrow I will combine the Cardio Axe (30 min.) with Tummy Tuck (20 min.). Valerie, I don't think these are for you if, as you mentioned, you are both choreo challenged and can't do much with your hips and torso. The choreo on all of these for me looks easy and MAJOR FUN! It's a lot of Latin moves with really cool music. I am going to use the High and Tight to replace STS legs this week and combine this with Tummy Tuck for a 55 min. workout. There is also a Bum Bum workout that looks like a real balance challenge, so I may have to use my power tower with it. And there is also a full body Sculpt (50 min.).

Deb, that looks like a great plan for the week. Fritz is the parrot, right? My doctor has never commented on my list, although the nurse when I had my colonoscopy looked at me and said, "Pine bark extract?" I just cannot remember the scientific name for the stuff.

I was told by a colleague in chemistry that calcium carbonate does not absorb easily unless you drink a quart of orange juice with it. It just passes right through your body without an acid environment, and the stomach does not produce enough acid to let you absorb what you need. On the other hand, if you have acid stomach issues, then you should take calcium carbonate, but double or triple the dose. But my colleague is something of a know-it-all, so she might just be exaggerating. My doctor also recommended calcium citrate but didn't tell me why--i.e., that it is in an acidic form.

Confession: I ATE ONE-TOO-MANY SLICES OF PIZZA LAST NIGHT! WHY IS PIZZA SUCH A MAJOR WEAKNESS FOR ME????

Monday

Good Morning!

Today I did Cardio Coach #7, up to 1/2 of challenge 2, which is about 45 minutes. This one is a killer, but I like it.

I am back to logging food into Fitday.com, hopefully I can stick to it.

Garance, how many slices is "one too many"? LOL;). I think I am glad that I did not get that BBL dvd set. Probably too dancy for me too. Yep, Fritz is the parrot. Just scored another Murad for $40 including shipping..
I love this stuff.

It is really cold here again. At least it didn;t snow any more this weekend.

Take care,

Good morning,

I thought I posted last night. Probably didn't hit submit.

Yesterday turned out to be a rest day. Today should be disc 4. I can't believe how sore my legs got from disc 3.

Eating has been good. I love pizza too so I can't go near it for at least a month(year).

I was afraid the viactiv was too good to be true. They don't check bone density for two years. I guess I should call doctor to see what he says about calcium. I have been eating almonds most days and that gets me enough magnesium.

Today is the first full day back in my office. My first client is tonight so I better finish cleaning my office.

Joan

Let me be perfectly clear about this.. there is no such thing as too much pizza!! No such thing! It's one of the basic food groups! Now, ask me why I'm always on a diet... I save pizza for vacation trips.

Weekend started out by breaking a crown on friday afternoon. fortunately it seems like just a corner came off so hopefully it can be smoothed off and let alone. It's a fairly new crown, certainly less than 2 years old replacing an old crown that lasted for probably 30 years. crap. I was eating some sliced raw mushroom as I was making a dinner salad and all of a sudden I felt what seemed like pebbles.

So BBL is dance oriented... no thanks. I guess for some reason I was thinking along the lines of The Firm. I'll stick to less fancy, no dancey moves. I really do have enough disks to keep me happy for a long time, just can't resist the urge to find new things.

Yes,Joan, I remember disk #3 as well. I repeated it at least twice. I get sore predictably from cathe's leg workouts. Saturday we did a short bike ride around our neighborhood. we have significant hills so it's tough. we didn't go long enough to call it a "real ride" but it was quite warm and spring-like so it felt good. (Apologies to everyone in cold and snow country, so far we're having a very mild winter) probably only 45 min to an hour.
Sunday we hiked, snow level is quite high so we were able to hike up to an old lookout site. nice fairly steep trail. we went up until we got into "too steep, too much ice". about 3 hours, a decent but not a killer workout.

I've read about calcium citrate being better absorbed than carbonate. I didn't notice until recently that the Calcium citrate bottle says to take 2 a day, and I've been taking one. I didn't like viactive chews, not a candy person. If i'm spending calories on candy it will be on good dark chocolate! I'd rather take a pill. I get plenty of non fat dairy in my diet, my bone scans are good, no family history of osteoporosis, so I don't worry too much about it, but take one calcium supplement ( some kind) every day.

Hi Ladies,

Here are my plans for the week:

M-Spinning 1hr plus abs
T-Kevin wo plus 30 min. of cardio
W-Spinning 1hr plus abs
Th-Kevin wo plus 30 min. of cardio
F-Rest
Sa-Kevin plus 1hr spinning
S-Long bike ride

I had a nice weekend, we celebrated my friends (Jeannie) would have been 60th birthday. I can't believe that she has been gone for 2 years.

The weather here has been great, but we are expecting rain by Wednesday.

BBL- Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did BBL Cardio Axe (30 min.) and Tummy Tuck (20 min.). Had a great time with the cardio--so much fun, and the time just flew by. I felt like it was Carnevale in Rio. On the Tummy Tuck, Leandro really helped me do a side plank. I usually have a hard time with these, but he has you start out with a plank, arms extended down, then lift one of your hands behind your back, turn to the side of the hand behind your back, arrange your feet to the side, then lift the hand off your back and hold. Worked beautifully.

Valerie, I agree. Pizza should be at the bottom of the food pyramid. Some people say chocolate, but I say PIZZA! Deb, I usually try to restrain myself to two slices, but I had three the other night, because, I told myself, one of the slices was on the small side, and of course, DH agreed with me.

So the deluge begins again, Joan??

Josie, I am almost certain you would like Brazil Booty Lift. Very Latina and Leandro is a cutie. What a nice way to remember your friend.

Hey Deb, I am almost out of my essential-c, so if you see another bargain, I am definitely interested.

Hi to Cathy--where are you girl?

YIKES! 5' , no thanks!!!! 14 was way tooo cold for me.

i have done NOTHIN' today. think i worked out too hard last week. so, anyway, went to church and rode horses yesterday. and was exhausted and achy today, so took it off, and hope to do better tomorrow.

i have heard so many things about protien shakes. what is ya'lls opinion? i used it for a long time and then someone told me that her nutrition professor said we don't need extra protien, even if we workout. so, give me all your wisdom.:)

Hi ladies,

I just finished disc 4. I used less calories today than on my rest day. Exercise seems less important for calorie burn than every day activity. No wonder it is harder to lose when I am chained to my desk.:p

Cathy my dh uses a protein drink after his wo because of his trainer.
One of my fitness magazines said that cereal and milk released the perfect combination of proteins after exercise. Of course I didn't look to see it the experiment was done for a cereal company.

Raw mushrooms broke a crown? I have only broken 1 crown. I usually pull them off when eating something sticky.

Joan

Tuesday

Good morning!

This morning I did the Lower Body only pre-mix from Muscle Max and one of the Abs of Steel segments.

Joan, So Viactiv is not the right kind of calcium? I just had a bone density test a couple of weeks ago and am still waiting for the results. I can't believe it's tax season again....so soon. Fotday calculates your basal (?)calorie burn for the day, just doing regular things, then you can add on your calories burned from exercise. I ignore the regular burned number, my goal is 1500-1800 per week of calories burned during exercise.

Valerei, breaking a crown stinks! Never heard of doing it with a mushroom! I also hear about it from the other side...

Josie, good plan for the week. How far are you riding these days?

Garance, I will have to remember that plank method. I can't do those at all. I will keep a watch out for the Murad.

Cathy, sometimes you just need to rest. Your body was telling you that. Isn't horse back riding considered exercise? I drink a protein shake every day, after workout, use it to take my supplements. I get the GNC brand of regular whey protein, in chocolate and vanilla. I don;t eat enough meat etc so I think this is good to take. It's 20 grams of protein and only 120 calories.

Take care..

the crown issue turned out not as bad as I thought. A porcelain corner came off, but it's more cosmetic. the crown itself is intact and "sealed". It's wasn't annoying but my dentist smoothed down the edge. we'll watch, make sure it's stable. he was able to grind on it, blast it with air and water and I had no discomfort. it wouldn't be billed to insurance to replace, he'd have to do it as a "do-over" but I'd prefer not to mess with it. I had sensitivity issues and a lot of call backs to get it comfortable. I go twice a year so if there are changes I'll have a re-do later. it would have crumbled no matter what, nothing softer than a crummy mushroom.

managed to get in a bike warm up and 45 min on the treadmill, and coremax #2 later in the day. today is yoga, and disk#9.

I bought a new exercise ball so DH and I could work simultaneously. It has a "stayball" feature. it sounds like there's a little sand at the bottom of the ball. it doesn't roll away, stays where you set it. This was helpful for some moves and not for others. it makes the ball heavier and it was much harder to do the pikes in coremax#2. the ball wants to stay put and pulling with your toes doesn't work too well. on the plus side, it stays where you put it while getting your feet on it.

I seldom do it, but I always considered horseback riding exercise. maybe not cardio vascular except for the horse, but there's plenty of msucle involvement for the rider. I used to get sore and achey unless I did went regularly.

I'm not sure about protein shakes. I used to use protein powder/milk/banana shake for breakfast but it never stayed with me. I'd be hungry in an hour. I can't afford the calories of eating breakfast twice so I switched to cereal, lasts much better for me. I eat mostly vegetarian.. we eat a little chicken and fish... but mostly vegetable/bean based meals. I sometimes have a small snack after I work out but if I'm not hungry I skip it. Very hard for me to lose and not gain.

Good morning,

Today is supposed to be 30/30. I'm dreading it because it is supposed to be a lot of jumping around. I haven't previewed it yet.

I don't doubt that protein in some form 15-20 minutes after a weight wo is beneficial. I just never have the extra calories for it. Of course I would have to eat it after I had gone to bed.:D

I'm not sure if viactive is the right one or not but I have heard one kind is better than the other. Haven't called doctor yet. I was told to take calcium and D because I had a bad bone scan. Not yet osteoporosis but I don't want to get there.

I'm still wearing the GWF armband to tell how many calories I am using. I think it is very accurate.

Better get off I hear the Office Depot truck delivering my 10 cases of paper.

Joan

Hi Ladies,

My spinning class was great last night. Today is a Kevin wo plus 30 min. cardio. I do not believe in protein shakes. I feel that if you eat right you don't need any extras. I usually have a snack at least an hour before my wo and then dinner when I get home. On Saturdays I have a bowl of cereal or oatmeal before my wo and then a snack between my Kevin wo and spinning and by the time I get home it will be almost lunch time.

Deb, I'm riding at least 20 to 25 miles I don't have all the fancy equipment on the bike to track my miles, but what matters is the time that you spend on the saddle.

Joan, I can't believe is tax season again. Time just went by so fast.

Cathy, horseback riding is a lot of work, so I would consider it a workout.

Valerie, I'm glad that your crown problem was not as bad as you though. My teeth have always been a disaster and I have made my Dentist very rich.

Garace, have you bough any new outfits lately

Josie

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did disk 27 for sh, tris, bis (67 min.). I get a little impatient on meso 3 because you do four "innings" of three exercises, then four "innings" of three more exercises, and finally four "innings" of three more exercises--all 8 reps each. I am dreading next week when the rests get longer. I'm sure this is very effective, but I just get antsy and tune out on all of Cathe's instruction.

Josie, I will be getting my preorder (20 % discount, free shipping and returns) from the new Boden spring collection. If I don't like the 2 dresses and shorts, I will send them back. I bet I like them though--I love their prints. There's a "tea dress" and a knit dress with a twist under the breast and a pair of denim bermudas. You can check them out online at bodenusa.com. Of course I won't be able to wear them for months, but it's always fun to get something new. I also bought some fabric to go with patterns in the newest Vogue mag. Some really cute dress patterns from DKNY and Rebecca Taylor. I am a real dress person for spring and summer because I get so tired of wearing pants and jeans during the winter months. I will also be going off to Northampton with a knitting friend to visit WEBS which is this great discount yarn place on Thursday. They are having a big sale.

I don't need protein shakes with all of the meat in our freezer. I like an egg and slice of toast for breakfast with juice to wash down all my vitamins.

Deb, your DH is a dentist, right? Does he do your dental work? You know, I don't think I have ever done the Muscle Max for legs. I have done the total body Muscle Max a lot. Maybe after I finish meso 3 I will do Muscle Max for awhile.

Cathy, I agree with everyone that horseback riding is a workout. I have a good friend who is an accomplished rider and she is in great shape. She has two horses and has won tons of ribbons and medals in dressage.

Valerie, I am debating the Vitamin D addition to my collection. It has been pretty grey here.

Joan, let us know how the 30/30 is.

I had a vitamin D level done last year with my regular annual labs. I don't remember what the normal range was exactly, (something like 30-70) and my level was 31. DH was a little higher but not much. way at the low end, and I was already getting some D with my calcium and I spend a lot of time outside, but not in a very sunny climate pretty far north. I added more D immediately, and I'm not big on supplements because my diet is good.

Our dentist has gotten a ton of $$$ from us too. My teeth are quite good and I'm trying to keep it that way but DH is a disaster. His whole family has balsa wood teeth that need constant work.

HI ladies,

Just finished 30/30. Disappointed but I shouldn't be. It was exactly as expected only 3 of the 30 second exercises were doable as is. I really don't know how I would modify the others. Again the music is just to keep the beat in the background. Also did pilates abs.

Today was mother's 84th birthday. We went out to lunch. Calories were a little high for lunch but I kept dinner low. I will have party for her on Saturday with the rest of the family.

Joan

Wednesday

Good Morning,

I did 30 minutes of KickMax, the low impact timesaver pre-mix. I am not really thrilled with this one. The leg conditioning drills showed me just how out of shape my legs are...and there was no fun factor in that.
I hardly broke a sweat on the kick boxing parts before that...I think I will go back to Kick Punch & Crunch or the Kickbox from 4DS.

Valerie, that exercise ball sounds interesting, but you're right, it would be awful for those leg pull ins. I make my protein drinks with water only, to keep the calories down. I should get a vit D test done. I too have osteopenia ( sp?) the precursor to Osteoporosis..

Joan, yes working out that late and then taking the protein may not be good. Not sure if it would keep you awake but why chance it. How is your Mom feeling?

Josie, 25 miles is pretty far. How far do you ride each day when you are doing the actual ride?

Garance, when I did Meso 3, by week 2 I was fast forwarding the rest times, they were just too long. I can do a minute between sets but any longer drives me crazy. Yes my DH is a dentist and does all my dental work. I have healthy teeth but not pretty. I should have had braces when I was young but it wasn;t something done with all kids like it is today. I have some veneers because of meds I took when I was young wore off most of the enamel. That yarn store sounds like fun. I like shopping trips like that..

Hi to Cathy...

Take care...

I went backand repeated #7 in addition to yoga class, and a bike warm up and half hour on the treadmill. I needed to finish the Lost disk I was watching, and by then I didn't want to do a leg workout. so legs #9 today. the "Stay" ball worked very well for STS#7. usually I'm chasing the ball all around because the floor must have a slight tilt and it rolls if I don't hang onto it. so I like it alot for everything but the leg roll ins from Coremax. It was about $20, not a biggie.

Deb, have you considered braces? ( allow me to help you spend money) I had them at 50-something and had an excellent outcome. no extractions, took 3 years and ..side benefit ... helped with weight control...they slow down eating and some food is too much work to bother with. Once you get over feeling like the only adult on the planet to have them it's not bad. and my teeth look much nicer, better spacing and eliminated several food traps between molars. I still wear a retainer and night guard every night but that's OK. cost not bad, half covered by insurance. adults have a much easier time than kids... most of us are smarter than we were at 12 and don't fight the process, and do good care to keep things clean. just a thought. I should have had them as a kid but back then if your teeth were generally in your mouth braces were considered unnecessary.

I had an interesting experience... grabbing a toddler who had run into traffic near my house, more about that tomorrow. all turned out OK but I couldn't sleep at all ...

Josie, when DH and I ride we usually do 35 miles but we don't do it as often as we like. riding regular hardens up your butt for longer rides. too wet and cold now but spring we'll be out more regularly.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did Athletic Step (48 min.). I eliminated a lot of the impact and still felt sweaty by the end. Maybe I am odd, but I really like the music on this one. I do the tap hop repeaters on the step, but then I skip on the floor because I think I could end up tripping on that skipping move. I like this one from Shock Cardio--but I love step generally and this goes by really fast.

Deb, I know what you mean about Kickmax. I could never get my heartrate up, and I was unwilling to do those high impact drills. I had braces when I was in my 40s when my sons were going through orthodontia. I agree with Valerie--a great improvement. I had very crowded teeth and an underbite.

30/30 sounds gruelling, Joan, from the little snippets of reviews I have seen over at the Shock Cardio forum. How is your mom doing now that the radiation therapy is over?

Wow, Josie, that's a lot of miles! Very impressive.

Valerie, I applaud your ability to do pikes. I fall off a lot of the time and just give up and do a plank and lift one leg at a time.

Hi to Cathy!
