Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 1/10

Hi Ladies,

No wo for me tonight. I really need a hair cut and I told my barber that I will take her out to dinner to celebrate her father's life. She needs some R and R. The services are going to be this weekend.

I went back to last weeks postings and was reading about the bras. I wear a 36A and I usually don't need a bra when I'm working out, but I wear one because I love the different colors. I once won a Turtle bra that is for big busted women at a race raffle and when I went to pick it up some people were laughing. I told them that I could always stuff it and be popular. I gave it to my best friend Faye who really could use it.

Deb, regarding the trip to Palm Springs, just checks the weather a week before. It will probably be very nice there. Regarding the daily mileage, I asked an instructor as to how many miles we put in a spinning class (1hr) and he said about 15-20.

Valerie, I think that I have built a hard butt by doing spinning, but my road bike's seat is a bit different and I'm sure I will have to build a new callous for that.

Cathy, it seems like a lot of miles, but it goes by very fast.

Garance, I have to look at the web-site for the spring collection. I need to add a few things. I did buy 2 suits during the holidays.

Josie

Hi Josie, Valerie, Garance, Deb and Cathy,

Mother is doing pretty well. The burns are almost healed. However her legs and feet have always been swollen but now they seem to be worse. Tuesday she couldn't even get her shoes on. I talked her into wearing just socks since we were taking the wheel chair.

I just finished disc 5.

I got my hair cut and colored today. I don't know why I wait too long to get a haircut. Although it sometimes only seems a couple of weeks between when I think it looks good to looking terrible. Dh didn't say anything about hair. He either didn't notice or likes it longer.

Garance I liked all the prints also. I liked being able to see complete outfit on the model. I just wish they had model in my shape. I'm still determined not to buy anything until I lose weight. Or at least get down to my weight of 3 years ago.

Joan

Thursday

Good Morning!

Today I did the Upper Body only pre-mix from Muscle Max. I had to skip the band triceps at the end, my triceps were fried.

Today is my last day this week, took tomorrow off to watch Keegan and DH in their first obedience trial. It is 3 days. Hopefully the "Little Fire" ( that's what "Keegan" means in Gaelic) will not embarras us!

Valerie, I have the same thing with my basement floor, it slants and not just a little...the ball is always rolling away. :). I should get braces, they have some really nice types now, better than when we were kids. Yes, that was my parents view too, I don't think I even went to a dentist until I was a teen. I know if I had a problem they would have taken me, but back then, if there was no issue, no reason to go. Insurance was not like it is now. We didn;t have dental insurance. Yikes on the toddler incident, waiting for details...

Garance, I wish I would have listened to you about KickMax, or maybe I didn't even mention it until I had already purchased it. I bet you coud do those leg drills now since you have done P-57 which is kind of like those. I was horrible with them.

Josie, LOL at your bra story. what is a Turtle Bra? I found out yesterday that the dress code for the meeting in Palm Springs is Business Casual. This means I not only have to bring clothes for the meetings, but more casual for afterwards..."sigh"....."can I just stay home please"?

Joan, don't you hate when you come home from getting a hair cut or color and DH doesn;t notice? I think mine notices, but is afraid to say anything. I have been known to have a melt down after a hair cut/color that I feel turned out badly...he kind of thinks if he doesn't say anything he won;t set me off...he's right! Glad your Mom is feeling better at least with the burns..does she have more treatments coming up?

Cathy, what is up with you? how are you feeling?

P.S did anyone view the clip of Step N Motion workout that Cathe is promoting as a download this week? OMG is she funny in that one! I never saw her older videos...

Take care!

I waited before posting cause I was so riled up. I could not sleep that night.

I was half a mile from home heading to costco. I live in a rural area except we now have a tribal casino nearby(don't get me started on THAT) and the road to the freeway has gotten busy compared to a few years ago. a LOT of people drinking at the casino. I'd just turned onto the busier road ( 40 MPH posted) and noticed what seemed like lots of traffic for 3:30. It was raining and dark. as I drove toward the freeway, I saw two small children near a fence/driveway on my left. I've never seen anyone near that house, it's pretty dumpy and I thought it was vacant.

For no real reason I looked back in the mirror -something just seemed wrong there- as one child darted across the road thru traffic to the far side. I thought for half a second, u-turned, and raced back up the hill just as the second child followed the first onto the road. there were at least 6 -8 cars near the intersection, some moving, some stopped, others approaching. I ran across the road waving my jacket to get people to stop as I saw another woman jump out of a truck uphill from me, head toward the second child, doing the same thing, waving down the cars. She grabbed one child, I grabbed the other, and by this time there were at least 10 cars jammed up with people yelling about WTH was going on?? the children were maybe 18 months? most drivers probably didn't even see what had happened, it was over in a few seconds really and the children were tiny, knee high, and not real visible.

We headed up the driveway carrying the children, saw no one until we got close to the house and a woman came out, seemed a little confused and not particularly upset at two strangers carrying her children up the driveway. she said something about their father "going across the road to gather willow branches for a sweat lodge". Oh ,please.... maybe the kids were following their father but he left the gate wide open, with two toddlers outside, on a very busy road? the other lady and I didn't ask anything else, we'd both left cars running, barely off the road, no one was hurt. the children were filthy, I had to zip my jacket to cover the dirt all over the front of my t shirt from carrying the child. A big thank you to Cathe here, I carried that kid at a fast pace like he weighed nothing!

there's usually a state patrol car on the freeway overpass. I was going to ask if it should be reported, but as I got close, he turned on his lights and went screaming onto the freeway. so I didn't report it. there are also issues of who or what agency, tribal authorites, county sheriff, CPS? I decided there was not enough really to report, I know kids can get away quickly. but I will be watching when I go by that house and if I EVER see anything funny I will report it to the sheriff and let them decide who or what agency needs to cover it.

So, I know I did the right thing. Even DH, who tends not to "get involved", says so. I know others would have if I hadn't gone back. I didn't "risk my life" or anything. I did lose the better part of a night's sleep ( this is what xanax is for) because I woke up multiple times with my heart racing. Those children came within inches of being statistics all because no one was paying attention.

So that was Tuesday! Wednesday was better and less stressful. we did house and tax things and then disk #9 together. I'm sorta sore today, but not bad. will do cardio something today and maybe repeat disk #8. not sure.

deb, I never regreted braces. I wish I'd done it sooner. My uncle and two cousins were dentists but no one ever suggested it back then. it was worth the short term discomfort. I have nicer looking teeth and the function and bite etc are much improved. I won't lie though, there were times when I was quite sore and I used tons of wax. tons.

Josie, my stationary bike does nothing to prepare me for my road bike. the position is so different. but padded shorts cover most issues for me.

garance, I don't know how well I do pikes but just making the effort is worth it. I know I get my butt somewhat up in the air, but probably not as much as Cathe does. I need to roll up my pants legs so I don't slip so much off the ball sideways. I'll do them with a regular ball. I like the stayball but there will be times the plain ball is better. we only wanted a second ball so we could do some moves simultaneously and I thought it was worth a try for only $20. I'll look at Kickmax again. I remember I didn't like it that much after I bought it. it seemed tedious and not as much fun as most other disks.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning I did a short one from BBL: High and Tight (37 min.). I wanted to get off on my shopping trip to Northampton, hence the short workout. I really felt this in my butt, both standing and floor exercises. A yellow band in a circle comes with BBL and you use this for the standing work around the ankles, then around the thighs for awhile in floor work, then add ankle weights for more floor work.

Went to WEBS and bought some gorgeous yarn at a great discount. Love this place. Also had lunch with my friend at a nice little restaurant I had never been to before, because I usually just grab something in the Smith museum atrium and head back to rare books.

Valerie, that is a hair-raising story. You definitely did the right thing. Did the mother have any sense of the danger her children had been in??

Deb, I remember those leg drills and yes, I believe I could probably do a better job on them now, but I am trying to sell my Kickmax at Amazon. DH always calls me Blondie for awhile after my highlights. He is the one who made me go to a salon to do them because I used to do some at-home job and then complain about them--I didn't leave them in long enough, or too long. I'm glad he convinced me to go to a pro.

Joan, the Boden jersey dresses with the knot under the breast are very "forgiving" and you might easily feel lighter wearing them. They cover a lot of "issues."

I want to know what a "turtle bra" is as well. Does it snap?

Hi to Cathy!

Hi Ladies,

It is a Kevin wo plus 30 minutes of cardio. I will take one of my cardio coach download to do on the treadmill.

The turtle bra has a full panel in the back and the hooks on the front. The girls do not move at all. My friend loved it because she used to wear a couple of bras at a time for support.

Valerie, the spinning bikes are adjustable and I have it set to simulate my road bike.

Joan, I'm so glad your DM is doing well.

Cathy, how are you feeling?

Garance, what are you going to make with the yarn?

Josie

Hi ladies,

LOL snapping turtle bra.

I looked at cardio core. If the wo blender ever gets here I think a wo of several of the hiit and cardio core could be made that was doable. Otherwise I didn't even attempt cardio core. I did Athletic step.

Valerie I hope this won't be an ongoing problem with the kids. My trouble is I would be worried about them all the time. It's unfortunate their parents aren't.

Deb I wouldn't mind if dh said anything usually but I got the manager of the shop and I thought hair looked particularly good and I loved the color.

Joan

can't remember when i checked in last, so, here it is
sun/mon -- took off, was very tired and achy.
tue==upper body sculpt (the firm)
wed--cardio core fusion (firm)
thurs--back up (tracie's new ones)
fri- the plan is to do either 30/30 or emily's cardio challenge from the firm's homepage.
it is raining cats and dogs here. probably gonna flood. usually does when it rains like this down here.

thanks joan. i love cereal and milk.
well, gonna have the grandkids all weekend , so may not be around til monday. ya'll have a great weekend.

Friday

Good morning,

Slept in until 5:30 yippee!!! We are off to the dog show in a little while. Have to take the pups for a walk first to make sure all "duties" are done before we go.. Dumping in the ring is an automatic disqualification! Please send (((NO Cracker Dog)) vibes this way!

Valerie, that incident must have been pretty scary. You did the right thing and I agree, you should keep an eye out and maybe report them. I can't believe the mother had no reaction to her kids brought home like that...

Garance, I went over to the Boden site....which dress with the knot are you referring to? I need a good "go to anything" kind of a dress that is easy to slip on etc.

Josie, which Cardio Coachs do you have? #7 is my favorite right now.

Joan, I have the owner of the shop do my hair, had it done last night, cut, root color and highlights. My highlights are not really blonde, they are more caramel very blended in with my natural ( ?) color. I really don't know what my natural color is anymore. LOL. I like when people ask, "do you have highlights?"..then I know she did them like I wanted them done. The new workout blender will probably be used with the MP4 downloads? I am getting far behind technology again..sigh....

Cathy, I am sure you will be very busy this weekend...just remember GrandKidsMax is a workout too!

take care...I will BBL to check in....

good morning all. It's very windy this morning and often that means a power out so I'm posting early.

I go past the problem house almost every day. it's back to looking like no one lives there. garance, I doubt the woman who came out for the children was their mother. maybe she's a new girlfriend or his sister or something else. I'll watch when I go past but will let it go. just didn't react like most mothers would.
Thanks for letting me vent. I can't remember getting an adrenalin rush like that before.... gives you power to act but not think clearly. I wonder how police , fire, other emergency people adapt to that kind of thing.

I ordered new shoes and a couple sports bras from roadrunnersports.com. Last shoes I bought in June 08 so time to replace. I wear sports bras all the time and they get less supportive after a few hundred runs thru the wash.

Good luck with the dog show... I've always wondered about dumping when I've watched dog shows on TV and what kind of penalty! Now I know...

today will be some cardio and disk8. I''ll do #9 again and then move on. It takes a lot of leg workouts before I don't have a sore butt for 3 days after. My legs are OK, just my butt.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy and Valerie--

This morning I did Petra Kolber's Bootcamp Boogie (63 min.). I have doms from High and Tight in some weird places in my butt that I have never felt before, the outside of my hips and thighs. Not too bad, but then I shouldn't because I have been doing a lot of P-57 workouts.

Deb, the dress is called a "Twist front jersey dress." I have two of these from a couple years ago, and was really happy when they brought it back in some new prints and colors. Very flattering and for travel, you can just roll it up and throw it in your case. Also does not lose its shape and washes very well. My new one arrived today and I tried it on. A definite keeper. Good luck on the dog trials!

Joan, how did you like Athletic Step? I rather liked it--even the music which some have complained about. Glad your mom is doing so well.

Josie, I must admit when I think of a turtle bra, I think of Xena, the warrior princess. She sauntered about with two metal circles on her boobs that looked like turtle shells and they stayed on in combat! I have enough yarn for three sweaters--a purple tweed vest, a variegated yarn in a Joan Vass design that I have made before and love, and then I bought some gorgeous baby alpaca that feels so soft. Not sure what I will make with it, but maybe something for someone else as a gift.

Valerie, I would also be worried about those children--and torn between not wanting to get involved and anxious about doing nothing and feeling responsible if something bad happens.

Cathy, we are having a heat wave here--38 degrees! Have fun with the babies!

Hi Ladies,

No wo for me today. Tomorrow I will be doing my long bike ride; I'm glad that it will be tomorrow, because it is supposed to rain on Sunday.

Garance, I wish I could knit. I know how to crochet but I have always wanted to learn ho to knit. There is a yarn shop on my way home that has classes and have always thought of taking them. I just need to figure out how to fit it into my schedule. Did you watch Runway show last nigh? There is a lot of talented people in this group, what do you think?

Valerie, I love road runner's sports. They have great prices and their 60 day guarantee on shoes is great. I returned a pair of running shoes that started to fall apart after a month and I got my money back. Regarding the kids, you and the other woman were their guardian angels on that day.

Deb, I bought all the CC up to 7 when he moved to California and has a sale. Which ones do you have?

Cathy, have fun with the grandkids. I spoke to them this morning; I had to get my fix.

Joan, I guess we all needed a hair cut. I got my hair done on Wednesday, but I just get a cut. No color for me, I have natural silver highlights.

Have a great weekend Ladies!

Josie

Hi ladies,

No wo. Just cleaning and laundry at dil. Second tests came back and she doesn't have gestational diabetes. That's good news but they said they would still keep an eye on her.

Just got a call from the nursing home my mil is in. Had to wake up dh. He had to give approval to send her to hospital. It may be the same infection as last time. Usually bil has to take all those calls but he was away for the weekend. I need to put my name on the call list. I hated to wake him up. You always think the worst when you wake up in the middle of the night. At least I wasn't asleep yet.

Joan

Saturday

Good Morning!

Keegan qualified yesterday so he got his first leg towards his Companion Dog title! One down, two to go. We are leaving again soon, after taking both dogs for a walk. Poor Kelsey is confused as to why we are both leaving with Keegan and leaving her behind..

Joan, hope your MIL is ok. Good news on dil..

Valerie, I will check out that website. It sounds like a good one. Do you wear sports bras all the time or just all the time when working out?

Cathy, did you survive? LOL

Garance, when I think of the turtle bra I think of big pieces of chocolate, pecans and caramel with straps...see where my mind goes....thanks for name of the dress...the pic on the website doesn't really show the dress at all....she is stooping down or something...very strange pic on a site that is trying to see the dress..

Josie, I have CC 1, 2, 3 and 7. natural silver highlights would be great. Mine does not grow that way..

Off to the show!!

Deb, I've bought running shoes from roadrunnersports.com for DH and myself for years. I have good history getting right shoe using their method. (adidas "cushion" shoes) the last couple years. they have you do a wet footprint comparison showing your arch ... lack of one... and base their shoe evaluations from there. It works for both of us, we both need cushion shoes rather than "motion control" shoes for running.

They have an over the head style running bra called the "sportek" that comes in a/b or c/d. it's fairly inexpensive and by far my favorite bra for running. I'm a D... alot of bras are not supportive enough and I detest back hooks. I usually get various Moving Comfort bras thru them too, and wear those for everyday wear and for most activities. the only time I put on a 'real" lace bra with dreaded back hooks is weddings and funerals! I belong to the RRS "club" and get free shipping and a decent discount. they're a good source for socks, shorts, polypro t-shirts etc for both DH and myself. I've had better luck with RRS than with Title 9 or athleta, and their pricing is better. I swear, everything I get from title 9 or athleta doesn't fit and goes back. Looks great in the catalogue but everything is made for much taller people.
Josie, you are the first person I've run into that uses RRS. I do a lot of mail order and I think I've used RRS longer than anyplace except LLBean. Using their categories I always get a shoe that works for me. their evaluations point me right at the correct group of shoes.
I'm joining the "hair club" this week too, getting trimmed and some 6 week color. Need to make the gray blend in better.

Didn't do the plan yesterday, an upset stomach that would not go away so did a bike warm up, easy 30 on the treadmill and coremax, and called it a day. will think about disk 8 today since I'm feeling much better.

Hi Deb, Josie, Joan, Cathy, and Valerie--

This morning was Housemax.

Deb, you have to click on the dress and then click on the various colors. The model from the catalog is just one choice. You zoom in and navigate up and down to look at the pattern and details. LOL on your version of a turtle bra--but if you're wearing it you cannot eat it without great difficulty. Good for Keegan!!

Josie, I DVR'd Project Runway and watched it last night. The Chinese woman is the one I thought should have gone. It just looked like a lot of fabric swirling around a tiny little figure.

Darn, I feel like I am coming down with a cold. Promptly went to buy some Cold-eeze lozenges.
