We did our marathon drive yesterday. 12 hours. most of the way wasn't bad. not too hot and on a sunday, active road repair/construction wasn't a huge issue. we drive the same route and there are always places being resurfaced with lane closures and a lot of truck traffic. once things get cold and wet, projects get set aside for the next year. then we got to WA. I understand most highway projects need to be done in the warm dry season but it makes for congestion, backups, and some pretty outrageous driving when people get annoyed. we hit a whole series of jam ups but got thru it ok with an extra hour and a half of drive time. not feeling like driving anywhere for a while, but I need to get some groceries today. out of fruit, milk, and that won't work.
judy that seems to be the "business model" for staffing. cut back until it gets so unpleasant that people start quitting and then add a few extra bodies for a while and then cut back again. a constant squeeze. I believe its why so many fields are having trouble hiring, and retaining workers. it's happening with teachers, nurses, doctors, pilots, flight attendants, retail. some person making 7 mil a year decides to increase pressure on the system, he ( usually a "he") gets a big bonus, and workers get bigger classes, more patients, less support staff, and then everyone is surprised when employees quit or go on strike leaving have irate customers.
different strokes, I guess. not my business really but when does that stop me?? cathy, why doesn't one person do the shopping with a list compiled by the two of you? you can buy Kale and tofu, get him oreos and pop tarts and alternate the person who does the trip? I do the cooking, so I do the shopping but DH can do it if I write him a detailed list. I use 3 stores depending. only one has the baked chips we both like, the other has better produce. letting him do his own shopping might clarify the need for common ground. Last thing I feel like doing today is driving but stores aren't far and I will do a fridge check, make my list, and git 'er done! we take a big cooler back and forth with perishables so neither house is left bare. after 12 hours in the car we wanted dinner so its good to have things to toss together a light meal.
