Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 08/21/2022

Good morning. Judy, thanks for starting the thread. This morning I did my usual 18 minutes of yoga to start the day.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

This morning I did ICE To the Mat: Legs and Glutes. For a workout with no weights, that one really gets me. I'm in the midst of making lists for my next rotation which starts next Sunday and discovered there is a LIVE Mobility/Fusion workout that is 47 minutes long. Curious what it's like.

If I want to workout tomorrow, I'm going to have to get up early. Guy coming to look at our water softener and it's one of those anywhere between 8-12 things. So, I need to be done by 8!

Carolyn nice job with the yoga.

Hope everyone is enjoying their day!

Did our marathon drive yesterday after finally deciding which day to go. decent drive time. hot and sunny much of the drive. I am so ready for summer to be over. my least favorite season. DH gets concerned our driveway will get overgrown with weeds. it looks pretty rough. we get russian thistle, the plant that generates tumbleweeds, romanticized in westerns. movies dont show the whole story!

they are spiny nasty little shrubs that start green but die, break off at the base, then get blown all over dropping their seeds along the way. when dry they're a fire risk. even when small they are hard to hand pull. we end up using roundup but the timing has to be perfect. whacking with a weed eater doesn't kill them when small, and doesn't work when they get woodier. they grow up in the gravel where there is no dirt showing and develop into shrubs, quickly. when they die they're a fire hazard to drive a hot car over. driveway maintenance is a regular thing here. we sprayed for them early in summer. if they haven't come up yet, its too soon, but theres no way to see into the future for what is potentially going to sprout. we were here 6 weeks ago, it was clean. amazing how much weed growth now. our neighbor is coming over with a big mower this morning to run over the big weeds and then we will spot spray with roundup. DH whacks a lot of them manually.

thanks for starting us Judy.

This morning I got up early and did Hiit It Low Impact and then of course the guy didn't get here until a bit after 11:00.

Valerie I'm glad you made it there safely. Good luck getting the weeds taken care of. My sister is still having big issues with the deer that eat all the new stuff they plant, even when it's supposed to not be something they like and they spray it to dissuade them.

Today I did Athletic Training. My time was 59 minutes with 336 calories burned. My average heart rate was 125 and maximum heart rate was 159. I used a lower step for both cardio and compound strength exercises. I have learned that I shouldn’t use three risers for squats off the side of the step.

Cathy, great job with To the Mat: Legs and Glutes. That really is an effective workout.

Valerie, I’m glad that you had a good drive.

Hello to Diane Sue and Judy. Have a great day everyone.

Last night I went to the gym with my husband and today I did a 45 minute Peloton ride.

Carolyn-Great job with Athletic Training! That's a tough one!

Valerie-I'm glad you had a good trip.

Cathy-Great job with ICE To the Mat: Legs and Glutes and Hiit It Low Impact. I downloaded the Live Mobility Yoga Fusion workout. I previewed it and will be doing it soon. It looks like a good rest week workout.

Hi to Diane Sue

Saturday I did Jessica Smith Walk Strong 3 Cardio Hiit (kickboxing with kicking drills at the end) 31 minutes, heart rate 120/155,141 calories, 2,745 steps. I then did Coffey Fit Raw Slim Sculpt 23 minutes, 121 calories, heart rate 121/144, 1,252 steps. I used 3,5 and 10# dumbbells. Kelly uses 12# and the other women use 15#. I am just being cautious. I like this and it is quick and fun. I have done it once before. I need to get it typed out and in my Raw notebook. I finished off with CDorner Neck and Back Stretch 27 minutes, heart rate 79/102, 45 calories. It really is a slow relaxed stretch and I like it a lot. Total time was 81 minutes, 307 calories, 3,997 steps.
Today I did Cathe Boss Bands Total Body, 55 minutes, heart rate 95/132, 140 calories. I then did Jessica Smith Walk Strong Ready Steady Go, 31 minutes, heart rate 108/140, 114 calories. Total time 86 minutes, 4,270 steps, 254 calories. I had a great birthday with family yesterday. No workout yesterday.

Valerie, I have had some stuff that would not die off with round up and found if I cut it off at the base of the plant and brush with a small paint brush a little stump killer on it would get rid of it. I had a landscaper do a bunch of work at one of our homes and he cleared out unwanted plants and came back two weeks later to replant. He said he did get round up on plants in close proximity, but since they were established they would be fine. They were fine and that leads me to believe round up does not last on those weed plants. I remember lots of tumbleweeds and how they blow and pile up. Not a pleasant plant.

Cathy, that always happens when you get done and ready. I do wish people would come the time they say they are going to be here. Nice work on the Hiit it low impact workout.

Great job with Athletic Training. I usually use a lower step for most workouts. I think it can strengthen when higher, but I am not tall and too high can cause low back and hip pain.

Judy, nice that you and your husband went to the gym together and you got a Peloton ride in.

Our neighbors came over with their new mower/brush cutter and ran over all tops of the overgrown weeds on our driveway. not a simple riding mower. so kind of them!. I will pay them back by making dinner for them.
DH and I then sprayed with round up on a tow behind sprayer with arms. I drive while DH sits in the back and runs the sprayer. we were not able to do this last month. it was too windy and wet. we had to walk and hand spray. not windy now so it worked. spray dried on the tops of the cut plants for hours before the afternoon thunderstorms came up. I hate to use so much roundup but there is no other option. if we let the weeds go it would be an extreme fire hazard. even with tops cut off they regrow. our driveway, area around our house is half a mile. way too much to spot weed or pull manually, if even possible. its interesting how the weeds only grow in "disturbed" areas, along the area where driveway was built. a few feet away native plants take over and are mostly benign, although they also dry out so you cannot safely drive a hot car over them. most invasive weeds are imports from the middle east from 100 or more years ago. they are not native to the US. hard to believe because it is such a ubiquitous plant but tumbleweeds are one of them.

going to mt bike today.

athletic training was a dread to me. a tough one.

ETA we did our ride this morning. just under 2 hours. this is the first physical thing we've done so the altitude needs adjusting to.

Today I did P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 43 minutes with 151 calories burned. Average heart rate was 112 and maximum heart rate was 137.

Judy, nice job with going to gym with your husband and doing a Peloton ride.

Cathy, great job with getting in HiiT Low Impact before the repairman came.

Diane Sue, great job with your workouts this week: JS Cardio Hit, Raw Slim Sculpt, CDorner Neck and Back Stretch, Boss Bands Total Body, and JS Steady, Ready, Go. I’m glad that you had a wonderful family birthday celebration. Happy birthday month!

Valerie, it’s great that your neighbors cut the weeds with their riding mower/brush cutter. I’m sure that was a big help.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Today I did CDorner Step Hiit with weights, 47 minutes, heart rate 112/138, 180 calories, 1973 steps. I then did CDorner stretch that she posted that was previously filmed, 25 minutes (I stopped at the figure 4 stretch) 44 calories, heart rate 81/101,138 steps. This was a good stretch, and I would have done it all, but wanted to be dressed and ready when my husband gets up to go vote on some runoffs before he goes to work. It has been a crazy day. Sleep was awful and I got up at 2:30 and took melatonin looking at the clock till 3:17. Then this morning my granddaughter called and had missed her first day riding the school bus, so I was running to get dressed and get her to school. I had never seen the high school. Poor child seemed distraught. This is her first year in high school. Tomorrow, I have a friend coming over with a birthday present in the morning, so I am not sure about the workout.
CDorner Step and weights was 1 minute each move alternating step with a weight move
step
plie/front raise 8# dbs
step
plie/upright row 10# dbs
step
plie/overhead press or one of the other moves I did 8# upright row
step
bent over row and up 12# dbs
step
1 foot on step dead rows 12# dbs
step
other foot dead rows 12# dbs
step and then break
step
biceps 10's static lunge with a run curl (not fast)
step
biceps with lunge other side 8# dbs (felt it in shoulders too much)

I will come back later.
step
biceps hold in L position/reverse/ twist alternating sides
step
triceps dips (I managed this the way she did it as option was kickbacks)
step
bird dog on step triceps kickback 8# db
bird dog on step triceps kickback 8# db on other side
cooldown stretch

This morning I did Core-tensive Strength and Conditioning which I found pretty challenging. That may be in part do to my typical lack of sleep. I probably won't get in a regular workout again until Saturday morning. I'm taking stuff for Friday morning, but I'm hoping to either hike or walk along the bay that morning, depending on weather and what time I get up. I'm shopping tomorrow and Derek and I leave Thursday morning. Trying to figure out our timing as he has a 3:30 check in time, and his girlfriend, who went back Monday for band, said construction added half an hour to her drive. Not a big deal if we get there early as we can just hang out at a park along the bay, but I don't want to be late.

Carolyn good job with Athletic Training and PP Lower Body and Stretch.

Judy nice job with the Peloton ride and great that you got to the gym.

Diane Sue you are getting in a great mix of workouts this week.

Valerie I hope your weeds stay under control. I hope your morning ride was a great one.

we won't be able to tell if the thistles are dead before we leave. they are not the tall spiny pink flowered thistles that most of us are familiar with. they are a short bristly shrub that grows quickly over a few weeks, 2 feet tall, 2 to 3 feet wide, dies, breaks off and then drops seeds everywhere as it blows around.

went on an early hike with our neighbor so i eft abruptly earlier before i was done with my post . this is the neighbor who helped us cut down our weeds.
nice hike, hot at the end. first part was good, still cool but by the time we got to top of the ridge, an old burn area, and shadeless. too hot to continue so we quit there. 4 hours round trip, up to 7300 feet. august is not an interesting time of year IMO. critters and flowers are nonexistant. august is my least favorite time.

I dislike the service "window" approach. I can see it works better for companies but I resent having to sit and wait when most of the time they end up calling you anyway.

This morning I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix workout one for 26 minutes and 169 calories burned. My average heart rate was 126 and maximum heart rate was 140.

Diane Sue, nice job with CDorner Step HiiT with Weights and Stretch. I’m sorry that you had poor sleep. I hope that your granddaughter’s first day of high school was a good one. Transitions can be scary.

Cathy, great job with Core-Tensive Strength and Conditioning. You have a busy second part of the week coming up. I hope that your drive is trouble free.

Hello to Valerie and Judy.

Tuesday I did a 30 minute Peloton Ride and 10 minutes of Peloton Arms. Last night I went to the gym with my husband and did a full body circuit for a little over an hour.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and Cardio Quick Fix workout one.

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body for 38 minutes and 144 calories burned. My average heart rate was 122 and maximum heart rate was 138.

Judy, great job with Peloton ride and arm workout. A gym workout is a good way to mix things up and avoid getting bored. Going with your husband is a nice bonus.

Hello to Diane Sue, Valerie, and Cathy.

I think I forgot to post yesterday. I did CDorner Calorie Burning Step, 64 minutes, heart rate 118/155, 276 calories, 4,934 steps. This was a good one. Yesterday was busy and my friend came over and brought a quilt that she made for my birthday. She did it in purples as that is my fav color. It is beautiful. Walmart canceled my grocery order yesterday because they had a power outage. No storms so I have no clue. I reordered and got my order today right when I finished my workout.
Today's workout was Kelly Coffey Power Splits Lower Body portion. I did it off the raw channel. This was 31 minutes, 121 calories, heart rate 111/131. That all I got in.
Power Splits Lower Body was 3 moves done 4 times each and ending with an all-standing body weight finisher.
Squats 15# dbs 4 sets around 12 reps each
lunges alternating 12# dbs 4 sets
deadlifts 20# dbs 4 sets
finishers

This morning I did ICE Rock’m Sock’m Kickboxing, timesaver #4, which was 35 minutes and 248 calories burned. My average heart rate was 133 and maximum heart rate was 175.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Calorie Burning Step and KCM Power Splits Lower Body.

Hello to Judy, Valerie, and Cathy. Have a great day everyone.

did a mt bike this morning. took our neighbor for her first ride in a long time. she did fine .we specifically picked an easy closed gravel road. went close to 5 miles and were headed back when her rear tire went flat. totally flat with no warning. we could not pump it up and air cartridge didn't inflate it for more than a minute. she hadn't ridden the bike in years so we knew no extra tube. our tire tubes would not have fit. so we walked/rode the bike back alternating riders so no one got too burned out. DH and I did most of it because we have way more experience and a flat tire messes up your steering. 2-3 hr ride ended up being almost 4. still had a lot of laughs and it was a lovely morning after a huge thunderstorm last night. everyone got awakened at 3 am!. we would like to get her husband on a bike too but he's resistant. we are sure she needs a larger frame bike anyway so we hope to get her to trade in this one for a better fitting bike. she's several inches taller than I am and her bike was too small for me. it was funny because when I rode her bike she said it looked too small for me and mine felt good for her, while DH's bike felt too big. a nice bike but too small. shes a regular walker and in good shape but in this rural area bikes are a fun alternative and walking the same thing again and again is boring eventually. this gives those muscles and feet a rest and uses others differently. I like the balance.

we are almost done here. going back this weekend.

Could someone else please start the thread sunday? we are busy saturday and driving sunday.
