Pentagenarians & Beyond: W/B 07/10/2022

Just finished Lots of Legs. I think Cathe over caffeinated that morning. LOL She was gleefully mean, witchy laughs and a lot of bonus reps. Then, halfway through the stretch, she realizes she forgot an exercise! She stops does a brief demo and says add it in next time. :D It is a very well rounded workout and uses 10-20 lb weights, gliding device and stability ball.

This morning I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice for 18 minutes. We had a lot of rain the last two days which is helping to bring the temperature down. Today the highs should be mid 80’s. Finally some relief, although it might not sound that way to you Valerie.

Valerie, yay on getting the date right . You might not have done structured weights for a while, but that functional lifting with the gardening certainly counts.

Cathy, great job with Advanced Step Choreography and Lots of Legs. That’s funny that Cathe stopped the stretch to add in the forgotten exercise.

Judy, nice job with ICE Metabolic Total Body and the Peloton ride. Metabolic Total Body is a good workout.

Diane Sue, great idea with CDorner HiiT Step and Step Boss Chair stretch. Enjoy your rest day.

you're right carolyn I think the mid 80's is pretty darn hot! I have no way to measure the temp in our garden area but it's very sunny and does not get wind. a microclimate..... way hotter than a short distance up the hill.

we made our exciting run to the dump early this morning before it got busy, then went home, switched vehicles and rode the local trail for 15 miles. might do another ride tomorrow when its sunny and mid 70's. hopefully near the croissant bakery. also local strawberries. I love them but a very limited season. I wait all year for them and then make a little pig out of myself eating them every day.

I agree, I like metabolic total body a lot but haven't done it in a long time. I didn't get any soreness from my abbreviated weight workout yesterday so I haven't backslid too far. same way with core. I hate the soreness if I skip for too long a time, so best to fit in it.

Yesterday I did a 3 mile run and Muscle Meltdown Triceps. I'm taking a rest day from exercise and will be working from 12-6 today.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga Morning Energy practice. I'll probably do Metabolic Total Body again this week.

Cathy-Great job with Lots of Legs. That sounds like a good one!

Valerie-Great job getting a ride in. We started getting our bikes ready yesterday. Hopefully we'll get out this week.

Diane Sue-I hope you had a nice rest day.

Just did Kick, Box and Bags. I really like the variety in that one and definitely worked up a sweat! Legs are just a bit sore today and hopefully all the kicking loosened them up.

Valerie we have the same temp difference thing in our yard. Our back two paths are quite shaded, and on sunny days I swear the temp drops 10 degrees when I hit that area. Makes walking on hot days easier. Great that you got in a good ride and gardening is definitely a workout! The first time I took the boys to my sisters in Florida it was during their strawberry season. Four boys and us and we could easily wipe out a flat of strawberries. Best ones I've ever had. We have a very brief FL strawberry time here. The vast majority of the year, ours come from California.

Carolyn nice job with the yoga.

Judy great job with the running and muscle meltdown.

we are doing another ride today. great weather this week. taking advantage of it. cant ride every day though, I get a sore butt and wrist and hand numbness so i need to rotate exercise.

cathy we have a heavily wooded yard mostly, at least 10 degrees cooler. the garden is wide open as it needs to be and it is hot there when sun is direct. we only get that a few months of the year. after the sun angle changes, the temp drops off and growing conditions deteriorate. we could prolong it by cutting down some big trees but we don't want to look at neighbors, and anyway, this is a big part of global warming and urban heat areas. deforestation. love those local strawberries. we also get the california ones all year. I dont eat them. crunchy like apples! I find another fruit. the local berries are sensitive, short season so "it's eat them while you can" since they go away too quickly. strawberrries also get a lot of chemicals used on them. maybe its good they aren't available all the time.

Judy its too bad you can't ride more of the year. I really can't run anymore. cycling is a good low impact endurance exercise. I like that I can do it for several hours, much longer than I could run. we back off mt biking in summer. trails get too busy. we don't give it up but ride less often. hiking has gotten so busy here that we leave that for MT now too. things change, for sure.

ETA back from our ride, about 25 miles, 2 hrs 10 minutes. very warm ( dont laugh) but upper 70's and direct sun. got strawberries!. also rainier cherries. love them both.

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble which was 41 minutes and 256 calories burned. My average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 171. I did a combination of standing and sitting, modifying as necessary. Now that I am familiar with chair cardio it was easy to modify and still get a good workout. That’s not the case with most of Cathe’s cardio workouts.

Judy, great job with the 3 mile run and Muscle Meltdown Triceps.

Cathy, great job with Kick Box and Bags. I look for berries from Florida instead of California in the grocery stores. They are much more flavorful.

Valerie, I hope that you find those local strawberries today. I try to get them from the Farmer’s Market when they are in season and they are so good. I also buy frozen strawberries from Costco to use in sauces, yogurt, and other dishes when I don’t have fresh.

Waving hello to Diane Sue. Have a wonderful day everyone.

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. My time was 53 minutes and 236 calories burned. My average heart rate was 124 and maximum heart rate was 174.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

I did Shredded Upper Body with Ball this morning. A good workout, but it won't be a favorite. Yesterday I went through the LIVE forum looking for possible workouts for next month. My mid day yesterday my inner thighs were so sore. Better today and no workout tomorrow, so they should be okay by Friday. Though unless I want to get up and workout at 6, I'll just be getting steps at the zoo as we're leaving for Fort Wayne at 8:00. I'm rather looking forward to Derek not having to be up before 6:00 three days a week. His last day is the 27th I think. Once he switching to working only he'll never have to be there before 9.

Valerie glad you got another ride in today and your strawberries!

Carolyn nice job with Rev'd Up Rumble and P30 PP Upper Body and stretch.

Today I did ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast followed by Muscle Meltdown Shoulders & Triceps.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and the Extended Stretch. I need to revisit that series.

Cathy-Nice job with Kick, Box and Bags and Shredded Upper Body with the Ball.

Valerie-Great ride today! Yes, I really wish we could ride outside more of the year. I can definitely ride much longer than I can run. I do enjoy indoor biking so that helps but outside really is better.

Hi to Diane Sue

So in the moment yesterday, when I did my update, I thought it was Wednesday. LOL Today's workout was Cardio Band Blast with Weights. This reminded me how much I don't like floor cardio that isn't hiit based. Honestly within the first 10 minutes I contemplated picking something else, but I stuck with it. Floor cardio for the first section, including some where she uses a long band on the floor, but I never use a marker for that, then a section of cardio with the fire walker loop, then cardio with 8-10 lb weights and ending with core. I certainly got a good workout, I just didn't like it!

Judy nice job Chiseled Lower Body Blast and MM Shoulders and Triceps. Did you get lots of rain at some point this morning. We even got a bit of thunder/lightening. We actually haven't had much in the way of storms this summer. When it's rained it's just been rain without the sound/light affects.

This morning I did Cardio Quick Fix workout one, 26 minutes and 182 calories burned. My average heart rate was 136 and maximum heart rate was 175. I made a quick trip to Kroger’s before it starts raining.

Judy, great job with ICE Chiseled Lower Body Blast and MM Shoulders and Triceps.

Cathy, nice job with Shredded Upper Body with Ball and Cardio Band Blast with Weights. I like non-HiiT floor cardio okay, but it’s not as energizing as step or HiiT.

Hello to Diane Sue and Valerie.

Monday I started with a Penny Bradshaw low impact workout, but 9 minutes in she was on a second set of some pushups, and it was already too much for me. A bit is okay at this point, but I was afraid of what I was in for. I tried looking at several instructors' workouts before starting. Anyway, in that 9 minutes I burned 44 calories, heart rate 117/138. Not bad. So, I switched to CDorner Full Body Strength workout from Friday as she generally gives options. This was 64 minutes, heart rate 93/125, 162 calories.
Total time was 73 minutes, 206 calories, 1,479 steps.
This morning I did CDorner Hip Hop Tabata Cardio, 39 minutes (actual was 33 minutes, I kept messing with my new watch band) 170 calories, heart rate 114/141, 2,395 steps. I then did about half of CDorner Lower Body and abs, 31 minutes, 78 calories, heart rate 91/12. I wanted time to do the mobility workout and she began repeating what I had just done. Feel Good Stretch and Flow, 25 minutes stopping at the lying on the floor and relaxing part, 34 calories, heart rate 73/93. Total time was 95 minutes, 282 calories. Chris must get up pretty early as she said she had been shopping Prime days and Kevin had went out to breakfast, then she had 3 workouts up. One was live when I started the other. I guess it is an hour later where she is though. I had a fun time with friends yesterday playing games. We always get in some good laughs.

Lower Body and abs timed
plank hold
squat with fabric band around calves and 15# dumbbell
keep band on and do balance leg extension holds for quad then do other leg
wall sit leg extension 5 reps alternating 5 reps
pulse 4 squat jump
plank hold with knee in skipped
lying side leg raise reach
single leg deadlift balance knee up 15# db
single leg glute bridge
hip bridge with dumbbell 15# db this was the alternative to lying prone leg curls which Chris did with a 20# db between her feet. I tried this in another workout, and I kept dropping the dumbbell and mine was 10#!!
She starts again with variations of the same ab work and then seems to go into leg work that is similar again, although I thought she said we were only doing those moves once. Anyway, I was not liking it all that much.

we are early and weather is nice so we are trying our regular mt bike route before it gets horsey or busy . it was getting some logging done earlier that made riding unpleasant so we are hoping it finished up and the debris got cleaned up. some kinds of debris are not reasonable to ride over. flat tires out there are not fun. bikes make horses nervous. we are careful not to spook anyone but a lot of horse people view bikers negatively. going early to see if we can avoid busy-ness.

That didn't work. when we got to the trail, DH's front tire wouldn't turn right. we fussed with it a little and it seemed a little better so we rode off probably a mile and a half but it was getting worse. we have tools but not many. bagged it and came home for a better look at why the brake was not releasing. ended up at the bike shop . these are hydraulic brakes, the piston was stuck. need a special tool to release it. will try again tomorrow. it was very pleasant and trails looked great while roads are a little overgrown. we can be there before 8 tomorrow and ride before horse people. horses /trailers are a lot of work to load. most horse people are not there until after 10. we will be done by then.

judy this is a reason not to wait to ride. we haven't had many things go wrong this year. we've ridden alot but if you wait for one special day or week, or vacation, something small can wreck your plans.

This morning I did JS Stride and Step for 30 minutes and 186 calories burned. Average heart rate was 128 and maximum heart rate was 149. Then I did the Step Boss Chair Stretch for an additional 16 minutes.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Hip Hop Tabata, Lower Body and Abs, and Feel Good Stretch and Flow. You were smart to switch from the Penny Bradshaw workout.

Valerie, I hope that you can have a good bike ride today before the horse riders are out and about.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

Today I did CDorner Step and Strength with mini bands, 45 minutes, heart rate 130/161, 227 calories, 3,237 steps. I then did CDorner all standing arms, 32 minutes, 101 calories, heart rate 98/121, 350 steps. Total time was 77 minutes, 328 calories, 3,587 steps. I liked both workouts. Next time I do the step with minibands I will be sure to get out the fabric loop band for lower body. She did suggest that you could do that. Otherwise the first band segment I used my lightest Cathe loop band and I used medium for the rest. The heart rate stays up as the segments are timed and the band work works both upper and lower. It 1 am so I will try and get back here later.

Standing Arms
3 exercises done in a series of 3 rounds 60 sec, 45 sec, and 30 sec. She suggests you try to increase weight each round

Round 1 moves
front raise/side raise 5,5,5 lb dbs (I couldn't raise this one)
90 degree biceps iso hold middle/ upper half/lower half 8's, 10's, 10's
kickbacks 1/3 count 8's,8's 10's
60,45,30 seconds

Round 2 moves
overhead press/flys 5's,5's, 5's
hammer curl 1/3 count 10's,10's 12's
overhead triceps extension 1 1 and 1/2 count 2 dbs held together 8's too much, I went to a 12# db for last two sets

This morning I did JS One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 109 calories burned. Average heart rate was 139 and maximum heart rate was 158. Then I did Jane Adams Leg Strength Exercises for 13 minutes and 18 calories. After that I did Power Splits Lower Body finishers which was 12 minutes and 57 calories. I wanted something for lower body that was not too intense. These body weight exercises were just right.

Diane Sue, great job with CDorner Step and Strength with mini bands and All Standing Arms.

Valerie, nice job with Stacked Sets Upper Body and XTrain core.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

good ride this morning, 1 hr 45 minutes. lovely conditions. early enough to miss just about every other trail user. a few people in the parking area as we finished up. some trails seem to be getting little use while others have a lot of tracks. the logging operations in winter rerouted a lot of users. the vegetation is overgrown this time of year. my odometer didnt want to work. hard to get it positioned on the wheel just right and keep it there. seemed like it was working but only the mph. worked briefly. got it to work for the last couple miles. its mainly keeping the wheel sensor in the right place.
