Pentagenarians & Beyond: September 28, 2025

Wanted to get back to heavier weights, so my go to for that is STS, so I can work back up. Today I did a Live Mixed Hiit and STS 1.

Us kids really have no control over either of them. She still does what she feels like doing, Dad has no real power over her and is a peacekeeper. And he will not listen to us in regards to them moving to a better situation. He's all we're okay here, and they just got a ramp. Right, so the fact that he's exhausting himself doing everything, and that's with things sliding and not being cleaned, because she can only help very minimally. He's even making her coffee most of the time now. And honestly part of that is that she likes being waited on. They at least need someone in to clean and shop, but neither of them and especially her, want people in the house. Her parents were the same way. I have freely stated that if someone wants to cook and clean for me, I'm all in, it's just not in my budget. LOL It's predicted to be a hard winter and he's determined to clean the drive himself. We can't get through to him that if he injures himself and can't take care of her even short term, that's she's out of there, because none of us can take care of her, and I don't think she'd let us. Okay venting over!

It's another beautiful day here in drought land. We may not get rain, I'm convinced there's an umbrella over my yard, but we've gotten extra sunshine.

I did yoga/mobility for 20 minutes this morning.

Cathy, nice job with Live Mixed Hiit and STS 1. It’s unfortunate that your parents won’t accept someone coming in to help clean occasionally. It’s impossible to do everything around the house and function as the primary caregiver.

Hello to Valerie and Judy. Have a wonderful day.

+we did a park walk this morning for 1 hr 15min about 3 miles. our usual one.

cathy that totally sucks. your father is really in a bad spot. some kind of medical crisis forces change and not always smoothly. can he order groceries online for pick up? even have them delivered? does he do yard work too? is becoming one of those "something's got to give situations". the worse it gets the more people can dig in and refuse to change. keeping a reasonably clean and organized house is necessary for health and safety for both of them. would it be hard to find a cleaning person to come in and do minimal cleaning on a trial basis? do they qualify for any kind of government program for home health aide assistance?
my sister is doing the same thing. she cant live where and how she does. her house is a pig pen, she cant drive, cant use a cell phone, no computer and wont learn. she needs to sell the house ( she would need assistance to do that) and move into government assisted living space but she wont. I cut off phone calls from her several weeks ago and said i will order things she needs but she will have to write a list and mail it to me. not listening to her rude obnoxious calls anymore. she refuses to listen to reason or take any action.
sometimes it takes some kind of accident or health crisis to force people to do what needs to be done. her dementia makes this all worse. sorry...you know all that. not always possible to make people do what they need to do.

Just finished STS Disk 2. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger, right! LOL My Dad mentioned to my sister a few weeks ago about getting groceries delivered, but to I, the person who would have to help him set it up he's said nothing. He doesn't want to pay extra fees. Plus he's overly cautious about paying on line. The house hasn't reached the point where it smells, and it's not cluttered, so there's not an issue with them moving around, but things like sinks, toilets, tubs, really need someone else to do it, and they aren't inclined to let us help. So, we just sit and wait for the disaster to strike. We've stopped pushing Dad, because it just adds to his stress. OTOH he seems to grasp the situation, but he's also very firmly rooted in denial. They have a kid who mows the yard and he fills the bird feeders when he's there and I do it when I go. The ground in the yard isn't completely level and Dad's balance can't deal with it. At least he knows that, and last week, he actually left the trash can out an extra day for me to bring in, and his cases of pop on the ramp railing. He often shops before I get there and if I catch him, I can take some stuff in, but he won't let me get it all. And I do love the food movement method. Mom gets stuff out of the fridge, sets it on her walker seat and takes it over to the table. She's a pro at moving things on her walker. Dad does it, too, but to a lesser extent.

This morning I did Rev’d Up Rumble, 41 minutes, 288 calories, 137, calories burned, average heart rate 137, and maximum heart rate 163.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 2. Your parents seem to have a workable situation going for now.

Valerie, nice job with your park walk.

Hello to Judy.

Yesterday I went for a short walk with my husband and did 30 minutes of Peloton strength work. Today I did a 30 minute Peloton ride and 10 minutes of upper body work. I plan on going to the chiropractor tomorrow so that will probably be a rest day.

Cathy-Great job with Live Mixed HiiT and the STS workouts.

Carolyn-Great job with Rev’d Up Rumble.

Valerie-Great job with your park walk.

Today I did P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, 39 minutes, 116 calories burned, average heart rate 109, and maximum heart rate 135.

Judy, nice job with Peloton strength, walking with your husband, 30 minute Peloton ride and upper body work.

Hello to Valerie and Cathy.

did 20 min spin indoors yesterday and therapy. today we did a 15 mile ride on our regular trail. it was lovely fall day out with leaves falling but still warm. tomorrow i see the doctor about my back which is getting worse. some days are really rough because i cant get in a comfortable position no matter what i do. including pain patches and back brace. im afraid i will need more surgery.

ETA i didnt want to sound so negative. its likely muscle related. when i take a muscle relaxer it can help a lot but its hard to live with that often. i have hopes for another injection in a different spot or PT to help balance out the left side and right side. almost all the discomfort is on the left side in a very specific place lately, not general. or more it starts lower down and gradually works up the left side especially i do some activity until a spot on the left side is in a major cramp.

STS Disk 3 today. My glutes just recovered from Sunday's barre workout, so we'll see how they feel tomorrow. I have to leave early tomorrow for lab work. If I have to fast, that's going to be an earliest appointment I can get! Shopping after that.

I'm currently debating going to my sister's this month. I was planning to go to Columbus to the zoo, which is doable, but I'm wavering between wanting to go and get some hiking/waterfalls in, and my brain saying you put a lot of miles on your car already this year, and said car is going to need some potentially pricey maintenance in the next. Plus upcoming fun bills like my car tags, library renewal... Logical brain is fighting, I want to brain. :D

Today was Cardio Quick Fix, workout one. That was 26 minutes, 172 calories burned, average heart rate 130, and maximum heart rate 163.

Valerie, great job with the 20 minute spin, therapy exercises, and your trail ride. I hope that the doctors appointment goes well.

Cathy, great job with STS disc 3. I’m the same way with fasting lab appointments, as early as possible!

Hello to Judy.

Yesterday was a rest day. Today I did a 30-minute Power Zone Max ride and a 10-minute cool down. Looks like we are going to have some nice weather for the rest of the week so I plan to get some walking/running in.

Valerie- Great job with your spin and therapy work. I hope your doctor appointment went well.

Carolyn-Great job with P 30 Perfect Pump Upper Body and Cardio Quick Fix, workout one.

Cathy-Great job with STS Disc 3. We always try to have our fasting blood work done as early as possible too.

Went ok at the docs today. he is sending me to another specialist who does injections further up the spine and also does ablations, where the offending nerves get fried with a laser. or something like that. im optimistic this can get treated. along with physical therapy. PT will be first, on monday. i am not entirely falling apart yet but need a little specific treatment to keep doing what i want to do. so i did stacked upper body, half of it, just thru everything one time. i always go a little heavier than cathe does, but not too much. the only exercise i feel is a stress on my back is overhead presses so i do them sittingh on a bench so my back is supported. hopefully i wont get any aches/pains from it. ive been doing push ups curls and pull aparts regularly with my therapy so it didnt feel like it was difficult.

good luck on getting an early lab appt cathy. i always try for the 7 am slot.

This morning I did LMR Lower Body. That was 51 minutes, 112 calories burned, average heart rate 100, and maximum heart rate 134. I skipped the step ups to avoid hurting my knees again.

Judy, great job with the Peloton ride. Rest days are important.

Valerie, I’m glad that you are optimistic about the back pain after your doctor’s appointment.

Hello to Cathy.

Today I did Lift Move and Restore Barre Fusion, 45 minutes, 161 calories, heart rate 97/140. I followed with Jessica Valient youtube, scoliosis workout, 20 minutes, 45 calories. I liked her. She has PT background. I saw she has some weight workouts. I am going to go back and check out some other workouts. Total time was 65 minutes, 206 calories. My dog decided to join me and it was so much fun. I have had quite a few days of no workouts with doctors' appointments, family things, and tasks my husband and I had to get done. My arthritis doctor had me come back for x-rays of my thoracic area. He wanted to make sure there was no more fractures. He wondered if something else besides costochondritis was causing me all of this pain. He switched meds which is not so pleasant. I saw the results on the portal yesterday. It showed dextroscoliosis of the thoracic spine with diffuse osteoporosis. He has not called though.

Valerie, I hope the injections help. I have been using a lot of PT work myself.

Cathy, nice work on STS disc 3. A hike sounds like a nice way to enjoy the nice weather. Sorry things are so complicated with your mother.

Carolyn, nice work on LMR Lower Body. I think there is a premix that skips the part with the step ups. I usually keep the height lower than Cathe has it. I have skipped the step part myself a few times.

Judy, good job on the 30-minute Power Zone Max ride and 10-minute cool down. We have had some really nice weather here too.

Shopped and did my bloodwork yesterday. This morning I did Live PHA Supersets on the ball. We are having those fun days with 30+ degree temperature swings, so I generally dress in layers on top with a T-shirt over tank and shorts.

Valerie I'm glad you have a plan to help your back. Hopefully those things work well for you.

Diane Sue I hope your dog is more helpful during your workouts than my cats are! LOL

Judy is does look like the weather will be great for being outside this week.

Seems to be unanimous that we all like early times for fasting blood work. I've always wondered who takes the later ones voluntarily.

Today I did Jessica Smith’s One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes, 120 calories burned, average heart rate 141, and maximum heart rate 164. Then I did STS 2 Chair Yoga for 21 minutes. I’m really feeling the effects of yesterday’s band work!

Diane, great job with LMR Barre Fusion and Jessica Valient Scoliosis workout. I like Barre Fusion, which surprised me since I’m not a big fan of barre. It’s good that you’re getting more insight into the cause of your ongoing pain.

Cathy, great job with Live PHA Supersets. We are having nice fall weather with cool nights and mild days. It’s a refreshing change.

Hello to Valerie and Judy.

everyone wants that 7 am slot so they can go home and have coffee and breakfast. its the same with medical procedures. everyone wants to go first.

active day yesterday but no formal workout. garden work and shopping. really nice weather but cold in the mornings. we used to hike like maniacs this time of year but the crowds completely wiped out our interest. we used to go places with a few others around, but now its a 3 ring circus. you cant go early enough or walk far enough. we will hike next week in montana where its not such a zoo, hopefully in the park. the shut down can close everything, or a lot less than that, no way to be sure. it used to cut way down on usage so no one else would be on trails, but things have changed in the last few years.

diane sue, glad to see you back. scoliosis is very common in older adults. depends on how big the bend is and where it is. my mothers family had big back problems, every one of them. i didnt have any problems until a few years ago when it must have gotten worse. treating it is challenging. i will take a look at that lady's workouts too. did therapy and a fast paced 30 min uphill/downhill walk in our yard. for no reason my back is better than it was the last few weeks. not great but better.
