Pentagenarians & Beyond: September 27, 2026

Yesterday I did a 30-minute Peloton Barre Sculpt class, 15 minutes of PT work and 45 minutes of easy cycling on the Peloton bike. Today is an active rest day. I had a PT appointment early and have been getting caught up on housekeeping and laundry this afternoon.

Shannon-Great job with your weight lifting workout.

Carolyn-Great job with P 30 Perfect Pump Lower Body and Jessica Smith’s 30 Minute Fat Blaster.

Valerie-I’m sorry about the issues you had during your bike ride.

Hi to Cathy

I know I have mentioned how bad my brothers health has been. On Monday, he went into hospice care at home. Yesterday my SIL messaged that they were moving him to a hospice bed in an hour and 10 minutes later said that he had passed. He went downhill very fast in the last two weeks. He didn’t want a funeral, so at some point there will be a gathering. My sister is arriving at my parents in the next hour or so. They have a wedding in Chicago next weekend, and we’re planning on a visit after, but flipped it to before in case she could get here before my brother passed.

Judy, I hope the new PT place is able to help you.

Shannon we are rural, 5 and 9 miles from towns, but on a “main” country road. Speed limit is 55 but most people, including semis drive 55-70 and there’s a lot more traffic then you’d think there would be.

Valerie that’s too bad about your husband’s bike. Glad you were able to deal with it so well.

Hi Carolyn.

Thanks everyone. My parents seem to be doing okay. The hardest part for them was that he didn’t want to keep them updated, and that meant the rest of us couldn’t tell them either. My Dad at least understood how serious it was. I’m going down there Monday.

this morning my planned cardio did not pan out. Kept starting things that it turned out didn't appeal, but I managed to piece together 30 minutes. Just finished Live Glutiator. I am not anxious to do that again which = it’s hard and probably effective.

I did a six-mile walk on the road yesterday. I guess it'll probably be the last one. I nearly got hit by a car. I was about a mile from home and had just gone over the top of the hill. Instead of walking against traffic, I was walking with it because a pickup was coming up the hill toward me. I got over to the other side of the road to give him room. The truck was noisy, so I didn't hear the car coming up behind me, and she didn't see me because of the hill. So she came over the top, and there I was. She honked and scared me to death. She was CLOSE. I've been lucky that's never happened before, but I've always been aware of the chance. And my walking time after work is when traffic is increasing, because everybody else is driving home. I guess I'm going to have to be stuck on the treadmill. But It's better than being dead.

The roads I walk on are county roads, speed limit 35 mph. But of course that far out, the sheriff's department rarely patrols, and people don't exactly obey the speed limit. Including me, LOL.

Valerie - What a fiasco on your bike ride. I'm glad everything is okay and that your husband wasn't hurt.

Judy - I hope you enjoyed your active rest day. It always feels good to get things done.

Cathy - I'm glad your parents are doing more or less ok. Keep us posted if you can.

Hi to Carolyn.

Hugs to you Cathy. hope things go smoothly..

We decided to reduce the size of our veggie garden significantly. DH and I took down the net fencing and we spent the morning getting rebar stakes out of the logs we had used to hold up the sides and keep it somewhat level. we dont have any area that is flat so we made it relatively flat. we cut size by about half. we haven't used all of it for a long time but adjusting the fencing is really hard so we waited until it was necessary to replace it. it's time. deer were getting in all the time and eating everything. its a big project that will take much of the winter to do, working on it part time. its hard to get fencing up at all if the land is not level.

WE have roads like that too shannon.. supposedly 30-40 mph speed limits but ..... not really. the people who pass on roads like that are the most dangerous. they don't care if it's a hill or a school bus or a no passing zone, a pending disaster for pedestrians. Stay safe even if it means walking on the treadmill.
