Pentagenarians & Beyond: September 21, 2025

I did 30 Minute Kickbox Express and Live Core with Yoga Blocks Express. I really hope she does another yoga block core, because I love that workout. It's been raining lightly this morning, but nothing that's going to help our parched ground.

Today I did Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, morning energy practice for 18 minutes. Saturday was my rest day.

We seemed to have lost Diane Sue. I hope all is well with her.

Valerie, nice job with the trail ride. I hope to get a Covid vaccine soon too, but the how of it is still unclear. Georgia is one of the states with specific requirements.

Cathy, great job with HiiT 30/30, Live Bands, Lopos, and Weights, 30 Minute Kickbox express, and Live Core with Yoga Blocks express.

Hello to Judy.

carolyn i looked on the costco website for vaccines and i can get covid. not clear if i can do it on walk in basis or if I need an appt. nobody to ask on sunday. we dont have restrictions here. dont get me started on the lunacy of the whole vaccine situation. they are undermining well founded science in so many areas. people who want the vaccine should be able to get it without second guessing by completely unqualified people in leadership positions.
I suffered thru all the miserable childhood diseases. i knew two people with polio. my father almost died young from diphtheria and had the scarred throat to prove it. kitchen table surgery. this situation will get very ugly before it gets better as we've seen with measles. these people simply do not realize what they dont know, and a 15 minute Google search does not equate to a degree in medicine or the sciences. . use your vote, contact your representatives and speak your mind.

i also noticed Diane sue has not posted in a while. hope she signs in again soon.

raining today so far. not sure what i can do today.

Today I did Live Time to Hiit it Low Impact and PHA Supersets, both of which are tough. The hiit workout has minimal rests and it longer than most, and the PHA was pretty fast paced for the weights used, so it kept the heart rate up.

I ended up getting the COVID vaccine at Walgreen's as they canceled my one I'd scheduled at Meijer because I'm still 64, but Walgreen is dong them in a lot of states for anyone. They let me schedule the appointment and then texted me to call an hour and a half before my appointment and said they couldn't do it, so while shopping I made an appointment at the Walgreen's across the street. My sister lives near the SC border, and she qualified because of autoimmune issues, but her husband didn't. He couldn't get it in NC, so they just drove to the SC Walgreen's. It is crazy, but I think in general anyone over 65 is supposed to be able to get it, and there's a long list of conditions which also qualify.

I had mumps, laid on the couch watching TV and eating ice cream and jello. Chicken pox went through my kindergarten class and I brought it home to my brother (3) and my sister who was an infant. She got one spot my Mom found and never had them again. The measles vaccine came out when I was about 3 and I definitely remember it making me feel really bad for a few days, and I had all the other vaccines. Honestly, I remember feeling far worse from the measles vaccine than from either chickenpox or mumps.

I hope Diane Sue is okay.

Cathy i had measles and chicken pox when i was a little older, probably 13-ish, junior H.S. OMG i was sick with both. my sister brought them home and we slept in the same room. i lost at least 15 lbs with each and i was not over weight. had to get the doctor on a house call for both. i dont remember how close together two illnesses were. i had so many step throats it was not clear when i had mumps, but none was not anything i wanted to revisit. out of school for several weeks. i dont remember what happened with my brother. he was a lot younger. and then after chicken pox, when i was in my mid 20's i got shingles. chicken pox is the virus that keeps on giving.

Today I did Jessica Smith’s One Mile of Motivation, 15 minutes, 120 calories burned, 143 average heart rate, and 188 maximum heart rate. Then I did Jessica’s Total Stretch for an additional 18 minutes. I had all of those childhood diseases. There was six of us, so a lot of shared germs!

Cathy, great job with Live Time to HiiT It Low Impact and PHA Supersets. That sounds like a tough workout.

Hello to Valerie, Judy, and Diane Sue.

Yesterday was a rest day and today I did a 45-minute Peloton Ride. Tomorrow my husband and I have our annual cardiologist appointment in the morning.

Cathy-Great job with Kickbox Express, Live Core with Yoga Blocks Express, Live Time to Hiit it Low Impact and PHA Supersets. I love the PHA Supersets workouts. That’s weird that Meijer cancelled your Covid vaccine. I’ve been getting texts from CVS this week asking me to schedule mine and I’m 62. I have an appointment Thursday for my flu shot so I will see what they say about it then.

Carolyn-Great job with Jane Adams Gentle Yoga, morning energy practice, Jessica Smith’s One Mile of Motivation and Jessica’s Total Stretch.

Hi to Valerie & Diane Sue

we rode the trail for 15 miles and 90 minutes. spent time looking for salmon and saw some jumping but not a big run so far. it rained yesterday and that often starts things off. i scheduled my covid for tomorrrow. i usually get no side effects but its a new vaccine each year. nothing vigorous planned. mine is thru costco rx.

This morning I did LMR Upper Body, timesaver #2. That was 41 minutes, 100 calories burned, average heart rate 107, and maximum heart rate 134.

Judy, great job with the 45 minute Peloton ride. I hope that your cardiology appointment goes well.

Valerie, great job with 15 miles trail ride.

Waving hello to Cathy and Diane Sue.

Did a park walk this morning for 1 hr 15 minutes then both of us got our covid shots and did the shopping. didnt even feel this one. will get flu vaccine in a week or two. its really unfortunate our national leadership is corrupted and not providing guidance so states are left to figure it out themselves.

i have been trying to get an MRI scheduled but there is a risk because of my pacemaker. i decided to get a lower risk CT instead. hopefully this is good enough imaging to show what is best to do. more PT, massage therapy, another spinal injection in a different spot, something else. getting it done tomorrow at a close by facility.

Today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, 26 minutes, 172 calories burned, 131 average heart rate, and 152 maximum heart rate.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk. That’s great that you got your vaccine. Walgreens contacted me to let me know that it’s now available.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

This morning I did LMR Functional Pilates + Lower Body Foam Rolling. That was 45 minutes, 135 calories burned, average heart rate 107, and maximum heart rate 148.

Have a wonderful day everyone.

Got my CT late yesterday. Wow those are simple. I think I've had one before but a long time ago and i didnt remember. results are back and its not as bad as i thought it could be. arthritis come for most of us by this age. hopefully a more targeted injection and maybe more specific PT. also got my flu shot set up for next week. I prefer to space immunizations by a week rather than get two the same day. then i will be up to date. I cant remember the last time I had the flu but long long ago. I stuck with the same brand of covid vaccine. my arm got a little sore at the injection site and both of us had trouble sleeping that night but that could be a coincidence. less sore today and it was not bad to begin with.

weve had smoky air blow in from the east the last several days making outdoor exercise not a great idea.
looks better today.

Sorry I went AWOL. A week of a weird schedule. Today was my Mom's cataract surgery. I got up early enough to do an express metabolic workout. So, we got to the appointment, my Dad went back with her and I stayed in the waiting room. Dad and a staff person came back out about an hour later, and said she was too upset to go through with it. The doctor came in and told her that it was safe to do it for her when she was that upset. When she came out it was like a switch had been flipped and all her stress flew out of her. She was smiling and happy. In the car she said that she was fine keeping her cataracts. Last year when COVID put her in the hospital and she was stuck in ER for over 2 days, they really did not have her bed right and it messed up her back for months causing her a lot of pain. She can't or at least has completely convinced herself she can't be on her back. She knew that she would be for the surgery, but they thought a pillow under her legs would be enough, apparently it wasn't.

When I got my COVID vaccine, the guy asked me if I cared which one because he only had Moderna. I've only had Moderna, except last year when I got Novovax, but I would have been okay. He said he didn't ask, one person and they totally go off on him when because he didn't give them what they wanted, so he makes sure he's very clear with people.

Judy, Meijer was choosing to follow federal guidelines, but some places seem to have their own funding because I didn't pay anything at Walgreen's and they don't have my insurance to bill.

Wow Cathy..im so sorry it didnt work! i thought they might "pre medicate" her, to settle down her anxiety with meds beforehand . i dont think the surgery could be done other than lying on your back but it took maybe 15-20 min? I had knee support. a lot of people are more comfortable that way and they dont want you wiggling. i remember being comfortable on the table going in and having my head taped in place to hold still. maybe there were meds in the IV because i dont remember it being a problem although the night before Im sure I took 1/4 of a xanax. everyone is nervous. .How could you not be? i'm kind of surprised they didn't just do it, unless they did and it didnt work well enough. even the night before to be sure she wasn't stuck to the ceiling before she got there. that is so unfortunate. cataracts wont get better by themselves. maybe if they get bad enough she will be willing to try again. Again, so sorry it didnt work for her.

Our cardiologist visit went well. The only issue was how busy the office was and that we had to wait almost an hour in the waiting room then 45 minutes in the exam room before we saw the doctor. We have been seeing him annually but he said that since we don’t have any health issues that he recommends we only come in every 2 years from now on. We wanted to get cardiac screenings annually since we are both over 60 and do a lot of cardiovascular exercise. It seems like a prudent thing to do to catch an issue early but apparently preventative care isn’t a thing anymore.

Tuesday afternoon I did 30 minutes of light upper body work, 10 minutes of legs and 10 minutes of core work. Wednesday I did a 45 minute Peloton ride and yesterday I went for a walk with my husband and did 20 minutes of Peloton Arms & Shoulders and 45 minutes of Yin Yoga.

Carolyn-Great job with LMR Upper Body, timesaver #2, KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix, workout one, and LMR Functional Pilates + Lower Body Foam Rolling. I really like LMR Functional Pilates, I need to do that one again soon.

Cathy-I’m so sorry about your mom not getting her cataract surgery. I hope she is able to get it eventually. CVS seems to be doing something similar to Walgreens.

Valerie- Great job with your trail ride. I’m glad you got your CT done.

I did Live Kick, Box and Sweat this morning and Stretch and Flow. Both are good workouts, and I don't think anything is missed in the stretch one as it's 40 minutes long.

Pretty sure my Mom will never have the surgery. We told Dad that she needed to be pre medicated, and he said he'd talk to the doctor, but he didn't. They never even started anything beyond getting her on the bed and she just was so upset at the idea of having to be on her back that honestly, I don't think even if they did put things under her leg to properly align it that it would have mattered because in her mind being on her back is so connected to having months of severe pain that she wouldn't even be able to realize it. There was no way they could get her in a position to hold still enough. Valerie I think your situation was run very differently. There was never any mention of an IV as far as I know. And the only medication was eye drops before and after. Plus her Alzheimer's is progressed enough that waiting is just going to intensify things. But, wow, it was very clear afterwards how much stress she was feeling from having to do the procedure, and once that wasn't going to be happen, she was happy as a clam. Though I'm not sure how it was decided that clams are happy.

Judy I'm glad all your appointments went well.

I think ( I dont know for sure) having an IV running is standard procedure. I believe they give some light anesthesia and so a fluid line is in place in to administer medications. maybe they didnt even get to that part of the process.
You are awake during the procedure and able to follow directions. i felt zero, zip, nada discomfort. i remember getting a series of eye drops before the procedure. I know i was nervous as hell but so is everyone. really, who wouldnt be?? Staff there has done many many of these procedures so it goes quickly and smoothly. there was nothing difficult. the nurses let you know every step before it happens and keep you comfortable. cuddly warm blankets, lots of TLC. the clinic I use has several docs, they do a whole day of these procedures, one after the other. I am sorry your mom could not handle it. maybe with the Alzheimers it wont matter that much. literally no down time for me. i could see fine immediately. had a clear plastic cover over my eye for a few hours , and was soon home eating lunch. I had heard colors would be so much brighter so i was looking for that result, but i must never have had a loss of color vision. All surgeries should be so easy and rewarding.
ETA Cathy hugs to you. it must be hard to watch your mother become increasingly difficult. there are well known clinics here that do nothing but cataract surgery and other eye surgeries. i went to the clinic used for years for regular exams and contact lenses. . Its not a huge practice, 3-4 ophthalmologists , but has a SurgiCenter as part of the clinic.

We did a trail ride this morning, 15 miles. took an hour and 40 minutes because there is a fish run going now. we've been looking for salmon and now they're here. not as many as we saw the last run but no way to know how many to expect. lots of fish thrashing and splashing on their way upstream. Wish we could get closer!

Today I did ICE Low Impact Sweat, workout one. That was 28 minutes, 168 calories burned, average heart rate 126, and maximum heart rate 166.

Cathy, I’m sorry that your mom’s cataract surgery was a no go. They will need to try a different approach if you ever get her back in there. Great job with Live Kick, Box, and Sweat, and Stretch and Flow.

Valerie, I’m glad that the CT went well. Your cataract surgery center sounds like a well run operation.

Judy, great job with the strength training, core work, Peloton ride, and Yin Yoga. I’m not surprised by your cardiologist’s recommendation. That seems to be common practice based on my experience. It’s a good thing that you monitor your own health well.
