Pentagenarians & Beyond: May 4, 2025

Good morning, ladies. Yesterday I did Cardio Slam. I did some of the high impact moves for the fun of it, but not all of them. I guess I shouldn’t have done any, because my hip and knee hurt afterwards. Not too bad, but I suppose I should totally avoid high impact from now on, so I don’t make matters worse.

Carolyn – nice job with KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix. I looked into Jessica Smith’s stuff last night. I’m not sure I want to pay the price for her Walk Strong 3 just yet, but it does sound very interesting. I know the price is a good value for all of the workouts, but I need to hold off for a while.

Valerie – What did you do with Puss while you were walking in the park? It sounds like he still has a long way to go. I’m glad you’re not sore from your workout the other day. That’s great news.

Diane – Good work on the Muscle Meltdown timesaver and the stretch. Good luck training Harvey. I hope the pinch collar works.

Hello to Cathy and Judy.

This morning I did Killer Legs timesaver with moderate weights. My time was 27 minutes with 124 calories burned, average heart rate 119, and maximum heart rate 146.

Valerie, nice job with the park walk.

Diane Sue, great job with ICE Muscle Meltdown timesaver, and Raw Stretch Flow.

Shannon, great job with Cardio Slam. I love that workout, but I use the low impact modifications that Cathe demonstrates in one of the premixes. I totally understand about waiting for dvd purchases. You can always try one of the free workouts that she has online to get a feel for her style. Also, Walk On the 30 Day Plan is less expensive and is mostly low impact cardio.

Hello to Judy and Cathy.

shannon we let him out of the carrier for the drive itself but when we parked to walk we stuck him back in his carrier. then let him back out for the drive when we got back. we dont want a disaster when we got back from a walk and cant see where he is. probably would be fine but this is safest. we will try this again after a dose of trazodone first. he behaved pretty well but meowed a lot. i dont expect comatose but almost constant meowing is hard to deal with.
diane sue i obviously dont know your dog. A pinch collar doesnt slide around and fiction off the neck hair. it gives better control of a big dog. it gets their attention. people imagine they're cruel and painful but they arent. my goal was to have a dog who walked calmly on a leash without tugging and pulling and being out of control. even small dogs need training, something thats lost on a lot of people. a well behaved dog is much more fun and less worry. hope Harvey settles in and learns his lessons. we see people on the bike trail with out of control dogs out at the end of the leash pulling like a marlin on the line and they are often little dogs. dog can run into traffic or interfere with other people, kids, dogs, because he is paying zero attention to the owner. report back on Harveys progress.

did a road ride later today, 15 miles with SERIOUS headwind. one way was easy, getting back was not.

Yesterday I shopped and packed, but was up early enough that I did the Upper Body Balance Discs before shopping. This morning I was on the road just after 6, and made if to Marquette just after 1:00, went hiking, went and did the drive through Presque Isle Park before I checked into my room. After I had supper I went and walked along the bay. Still undecided about where to go first tomorrow. I managed all that on less than 5 hours sleep and now I'm really tired, and hoping to be asleep early. LOL

No workout today. The MRI took longer than they said as the radiologist had to redo two screenings and move my positioning to get a clearer picture. I got the scan on disc for the doctor. My husband and I went out to eat when we left. Neither of us had eaten breakfast. I got a big salad and brought half of it home this time. Then came home and Harvey had tore up his My Pillow bed and memory foam was spilling out of his crate. So a bid scolding and clean up, I remember when Gertie was young, and we finally just gave her old towels to sleep on because she tore up her bedding. The bed Harvey was using was Gerties. I have a brand new one for Harvey but not giving him it right now. He has been good about chewing on his bedding since we got the crate and the only thing I can think is his chew bone was not in his crate. I usually make sure it is near by for him, and when I pulled out the torn bed and the mess of memory foam I noticed both of his chew bones were outside the crate. He knew we were upset with him. He stayed away from us after he was scolded and stood by the door watching as we cleaned up. We kind of ignored him for a while. I made sure he knew this was bad. He later came around with his head down and tried to nuzzle me later. He has not climbed into his nearly empty crate other than one blanket that I washed and an old towel. The fuzzy blanket is done in. I could not get all of the memory foam off of it even though I picked and shook a lot off and laundered it. It stayed stuck on it. My husband mentioned cutting some masonite and putting on the bottom of the crate so he does not have to set on the metal base. I read that some others had done that when I purchased it. I am tired and did not sleep well. Hopefully I can do some sort of a workout in the morning.

Valerie, I saw some instructors showing the pinch collars and the need for them not to be loose and measure is under the chin? I had one of the plastic type but the rope that holds it together was warn and they are not that effective.

This week I’ve done 3 Peloton Rides, 3 Peloton Strength workouts and 1 foam rolling/pt session. Hopefully I can get back into a more normal workout routine next week.

Cathy-Great job with Lower Body Balance Discs, P30 Low Impact Hiit, Live Metabolic Lower Body, Upper Body Balance Discs and hiking.

Diane Sue-I’m sorry about all the pain that you have been in. Great job with Your Healthy Back, WS3 deep stretch, WS3 Cardio HiiT, STS 2 Chair Yoga, ICE Muscle Meltdown timesaver with warm up and stretch, and Raw Stretch Flow.

Carolyn-Great job with Total Body Barbell, upper body only, Cardio Quick Fix, workout #2 and Killer Legs Timesaver.

Valerie-Great job with the warm up spin, LMR upper body, the park walk and road ride. Riding with a headwind is rough! I’m with you on Supermans. They have never felt good to me. It feels like I’m trying to put my body into a position that it does not want to be in. It is definitely not a useful move for me and I don’t even try to do it anymore.

Shannon- Great job with your version of LMR upper body and lower body combined, upper body balance disc bonus, Rodney Yee’s Power Yoga and Cardio Slam.

Good morning, ladies, and happy Friday. Yesterday I did my own weight lifting and had a very good workout. Then I did RWH abs #2 (no equipment), but stopped at the side planks. I figured I’d done enough planks on Monday when I did the LMR upper body disc bonus. I really wish Cathe would give us an update on LMR 2. I’m getting antsy.

Carolyn – Sounds like a good idea to do a timesaver with a workout called Killer Legs! I’ve tried the low impact version of Cardio Slam that Cathe provides, but I like my version better.

Valerie – Yeah, I’ve been in a car with a constantly meowing cat. Not fun at all. Whew, you had a serious workout yesterday with that headwind. It’s hard enough to walk in wind like that, much less pedal a bike. Good work!

Cathy – You had quite a day. I hope you slept well.

Diane – When will you know the results of your MRI? I’m sorry Harvey tore up his bed. I’ve had a couple of dogs who just have a hard time adjusting too. But eventually they settled down. I’m sure Harvey will too. He’s lucky to have you.

Judy – It sounds like you’ve done a great job of keeping up with your workouts this week.

I hope everyone has a really nice weekend and a Happy Mother’s Day. I’ll see you Monday.

Today I did JS One Mile of Motivation for 15 minutes and 106 calories burned. Then I did LMR Functional Pilates Fusion, 33 minutes, and 87 calories.

Valerie, nice job with the 15 mile road ride.

Cathy, nice job with getting in Upper Body Balance Discs before shopping. I’m glad that you made it to Marquette.

Judy, great job with the 3 Peloton rides this week.

Shannon, nice job with your weight work and RWH Abs.

Diane Sue, I’m sorry that the MRI took so long.

we mt biked this morning, a bout 7 miles. first time on trails this year. felt very hard. the trail we usually come down was ok for 2/3 of the way, and then it came to a logged out section that was too hard for me. i walked it down. too dusty and steep for me at this point. maybe later in the season. or not. we ran the Alltrails program while riding this time and it calculated more elevation than we expected because there is a lot of up and down. checking the starting elevation and the top elevation is quite a bit less than the trail program calculated we actually did.

dh has a torn meniscus from the mri. we see the ortho guy tomorrow and will see what he recommends we do.

diane sue, our pinch collar was long ago. it was metal and we could add and subtract individual sections of it to fit best.

animals are funny about beds and where they want to sleep. i bought our kitty a bed before we got him. it looks lovely and comfortable but he ignores it. we had an old bed our previous cats used and loved made out of foam that is torn but he doesnt use that one either and opts to sleep everywhere else. if someone gave me a MyPIllow I would chew it up too. no fan of memoryfoam.

Judy do you still use OpenOffice? if you do I have a question about how to do something that I cant figure out how to do.

Yesterday I did Ice premix warm up muscle meltdown triceps and stretch 32 minutes), 171 calories, heart rate 121/144. I also did Walk Strong 3 Total Stretch 17 minutes, 37 calories. Total time 49 minutes, 220 calories.
Today I did CDorner Aerobics and Arms (really is upper body), skipped the weight segment that was upper back lat pulls and subbed moves for ones that hit my back), 48 minutes, 284 calories, 3,290 Steps. I finished with LMR timesaver sun salutations with bonus restorative yoga, 33 minutes, 54 calories. I accidentally picked the wrong premix as I intended to do the balance and restorative yoga. I do not like the sun salutations, and I did not do planks I dropped to knees and up dog right away. The aerobics and arms did 5 minute cardio and 5 minute weights alternating.
The MRI results came in yesterday and I have fractures in T5 and T7. I am so tired of dealing with the pain.
Thursday night Harvey cried all night. He did not like sleeping on just blankets in the bottom of the crate. I ended up sleeping in the recliner to make him be quiet so my husband could sleep. He already had lost sleep getting up and taking me for the mri. The recliner was miserable, and I slid down in it sleeping and it was hard to sit up because my back hurt so bad when I woke up. I ordered a mat that has some padding and got it quick so last night there was no crying.
My granddaughter's dad bought her a car and she came over yesterday and brought me a rose and candle with Nana on the front. It was only the second time since we got Harvey that a family member has been in our house. He made a little progress as he tried to avoid her but would pace from one side of the room to the other. She sat on the floor, and we were nearby and Harvey finally came and took some treats from her. That is some progress. He would not take them from us at first. He also took interest when the lawn guy came to the door. Usually when we answer the door he heads for the back door.

Judy, nice work getting in some workouts with all of the work you have going on. I have never liked superman's either. It seems they are recommended for back help and costochondritis. I do not lift up very far and I do not put my arms straight out I just lift up a bit with them down to my side.

Shannon, nice work on your own weight workout and RWH Abs #2. I checked a couple of days ago to see if there was anything new on LMR 2 and saw nothing. It does usually take quite a while I guess.

Carolyn, good job on JS One of Mile Motivation and LMR Pilates Fusion.

Valerie, good job on the 7 mile bike ride. I am sorry your husband has a torn miniscus. When I had mine my knee would seem better when I would lay off some workouts that were a lot of leg work and then as soon as I felt good it would go right back to hurting. It did still hurt for a real long time after surgery as well. I got out the metal pinch collar to look at it and check size and it seems something is missing, because I see no way to attach the ends together. The hooks don't fit into what is there. Either it is missing something or I don't remember how it worked, I may just get one that has a clasp of sorts on it. Besides, when I got it out to look at it Harvey headed into the crate. I am guessing he thought I was going to walk him. Gertie was always trying to get her head into the chain collar and ready to go.
