Pentagenarians & Beyond: May 3, 2026

Good morning Carolyn. Thanks for getting us started.

I did my AOLIH mix, Live Yoga Blocks Abs and Restorative Yoga. Hoping to walk some today, temps 50-60. But, it's currently 52 feels like 38, so it won't be much. I'm really not going to have any adjustment period to get me ready for 80's in Fort Worth in 2 weeks. Then I've decided to go on to Derek's where I'll be back to 60's. I decided I'm just going to pack two separate suitcases, since I'll basically need summer and spring clothes.

Diane Sue I hope you are able to figure out what will work in your space. I've found ways to do workouts in hotel rooms that are similar to what you have available.

Valerie I'm glad the therapy exercises are helping you.

Hi Judy.

Good morning Carolyn. thanks for getting things going. hugs to you.

we are having beautiful warm sunny weather so we did a road ride we haven't done in 2 years. last year DH didn't feel his knee would hold up to 25 miles. we did it this morning. and with a headwind to boot. how can the wind blow against you for an entire 25 mile circuit?? grrr.... took us 2.5 hours with many short stops for brief rests, bridge crossings and traffic dodging. we don't ride many places with regular traffic these days because its so much busier than it used to be. people are pretty rude in passing without giving an inch to spare. no reason why a driver cant move over a little when no oncoming cars and we have a very narrow shoulder over a bridge. some folks pass as close as they can. this felt kinda hard because its 2x as long as our usual rides, plus the vehicles.

I'm trying to figure out how i can do my stretches in our camper. we can't count on warm dry weather so i do them inside but there is very little floor space. on the bed is too soft but that might be the only option.
i didnt do them yet today but will do them shortly.

Yesterday I did a 20-minute Peloton ride and 30 minutes of Yin Yoga. Today is a rest day. I woke up with chills, body aches and a bad headache this morning. I could tell I was fighting something yesterday. I’m feeling a little better this afternoon but I’ll probably make this an active rest week.

Thank you for starting the thread Carolyn.

Cathy-Great job with your AOLIH mix, Live Yoga Blocks Abs and Restorative Yoga. I’ll have to try that Live workout.

Valerie-Great job with your road ride.

Hi to Diane Sue

Yesterday I did Senior Shape Strength Training for everyone/choose your level, 37 minutes, 159 calories, heart rate 104/146. I did the Challenge moves through each half. The challenge moves add a lower body move along with the upper body with weights. She gives variations to intensify the movement. I used 10# dumbbells for all of it except a move with bow and area move and used 8# for that. I follwed that with Upper Body Stretch and Mobility, 23 minutes, 83 calories. Total time 242 calories.
Today I did a CDorner mixed cardio mash up, 46 minutes, 296 calories, heart rate 134/164 and part of a hip mobility stretch, 7 minutes, 23 calories. We had to take my husband's car to the shop to see why a taillight just turns on when we are not even around it. So, we stopped for lunch too. Total time was 53 minutes, 219 calories.

No workout yesterday as I got little sleep. This morning I did IMAX 4 combos + blizzard blast and LITE Bands and Loops. Tomorrow I'm going to the zoo and then to my parents.

Judy I really like that Live Yoga Blocks workout. Sorry you weren't feeling well, but it sounds like you're on the mend.

Valerie sounds like you guys got a really good ride in. I stopped riding my bike out here for two reasons. Even with very little traffic drivers are jerks these days. I always give riders as much space as I can while driving, and closer to town when they are training we get the university track/cross country kids running a ways out. Second was the dogs. People out here tend to just let their dogs loose and they are not all friendly at all.

Cathy we are pretty particular about where and when we ride roads these days. people are basically jerks. they always have been. they are less polite than ever. we ride early, usually sunday morning, and only a few select rides. there are only a few roads we are on briefly that have significant traffic. we always are definite and make our intentions clear and get out of the way if there is any question. there are a couple bridges with no options. the only way over a river with no pedestrian lane. if you ride way over on the shoulder , drivers take that as an "invitation" to pass. there is not enough room. ive watched people try to park at costco. the average driver has no concept of "close". We take the whole lane right down the center. do not waver and go fast. as soon as there is a shoulder, look behind and go there. otherwise drivers try to sneak past on the left but its way way too dangerous. this is for short road sections only, hopefully they are on their way home from church and arent drunk since its sunday morning. so far its worked for us and we are still alive. you cant be timid. there are plenty of roads we used to ride that are not workable anymore. now its only a couple times a year on rural roads sunday morning. we havent had trouble with dogs. i carry pepper spray in my bottle cage and will use it. ive used it on dogs before and its very effective. i carry it on my mt bike too. the risk isnt zero no matter what.

ive had two days with plenty of walking and several therapy sessions . will ride something tomorrow. People didnt behave so badly in the past. not sure what happened but i can guess.

Good afternoon. Thank you so much for your kind words and prayers. It’s a very difficult time. My daughter spent her career working with humanitarian aid and disaster assistance. She worked with USAID, Doctors Without Borders, and other organizations traveling to so many countries. I was always worried when she traveled to places like Iraq, Jordan, and South Sudan, but was also very proud of her.

Monday I did KCM’s Cardio Fit, all cardio, no weights for 34 minutes, 176 calories burned, average heart rate 114, and maximum heart rate 152. Yesterday I had a doctors appointment and today I did KCM’s Cardio Quick Fix.

Have a good afternoon everyone.

I’m staying with active rest this week even though I do feel quite a bit better than I did on Sunday. Yesterday I did an hour of Restorative Yoga and some PT work. Today I did a 20 minute walk on the treadmill, along with 20 minutes of Peloton Arms & Light Weights and 20 minutes of PT/Core work.

Carolyn- I can only imagine how difficult this time is for you. It sounds like your daughter accomplished so much in her life. I’m sure you are very proud of her. Great job with KCM’s Cardio Fit and Cardio Quick Fix.

Diane Sue-Great job with Senior Shape Strength Training, Upper Body Stretch and Mobility and CDorner mixed cardio mash up.

Cathy-Great job with the IMAX 4 combos + blizzard blast and LITE Bands and Loops. We used to ride more outside, 15 years ago when the traffic wasn’t quite as bad. Now it feels very dangerous to ride anywhere around here. We used to drive to Island Lake and ride the paths there but that’s a 90+ minute round trip and also the last time we were there it was so crowded that we couldn’t enjoy riding. Loose dogs are becoming an issue here too.

Valerie- Great job with your walking and therapy sessions. I think we are going to start carrying pepper spray when we walk or run outside now too.

Today I did Fit Split Boxing Bootcamp Legs and Glutes, 61 minutes, 342 calories, heart rate 128/157. That is it for the day. I moved some workouts that I have on my external drive to my computer so that I can use my computer without a dvd player. I guess I did not transfer them from my old laptop which went into the trash. I forgot how much jumping and burpees is in the workout that I did today. I had to do a lot of modifications on the boxing bootcamp portion.

Carolyn, thank you for sharing how many good things that your daughter did helping others. She sounds like she was a wonderful person. My heart goes out to you. Nice work on Monday's KCM Cardio Fit no weights and today's KCM Cardio Quick Fix.

Cathy, nice work on I Max 4 combos and Blizzard Blast and LITE Bands and Loops. Enjoy the zoo tomorrow.

Judy, good job on an hour of Restorative Yoga and some PT Yesterday and a treadmill walk with Peloton light weights and 20 minutes of PT core work today.

Valerie, good job on the walks and therapy sessions. It seems like some people enjoy scaring people on the road. I see them flying down these country roads that are hilly and wonder why anyone wants to be out there on bikes or walking. My daughter has a mail box with an opening on both sides so they don't have to stand in the road to unlock the mail box.

This morning I did P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body, 35 minutes, 94 calories, average heart rate 105, and maximum heart rate 125.

Hello to everyone and have a great day.

Carolyn what a wonderful legacy your daughter left. USAID was a wonderful program that benefitted so many. you must be incredibly proud of what she accomplished.

diane sue, yes I think people enjoy scaring bicyclists. they probably think they are "great" drivers because they can pass close by. sometimes we cant ride on the right shoulder because of rocks or broken glass. we ride defensively and single file and early to avoid most traffic. honestly we dont ride on roads much anymore because its more trouble than its worth.

Judy we carry old cans of bear spray. aerosol cans outdate like everything else so i move the bear spray to the bottle cage on one of our bikes. it will shoot a stream of 30 feet and if it will stop a grizzly, it will discourage a german shepherd(s) too. we havent had a problem with a dog in a long time. we stay alert for dogs but most people use invisible fencing or something. on a busy road, the dog that chases bikes would likely get hit by a car too.

Today I did LMR2 Cardio x 2 before I went shopping. Tomorrow I'm going to start making lists because suddenly I'm down to a week until I leave!

Carolyn what an amazing job your daughter had, and I'm sure was able to help many people.

Valerie this is very much a farming area out here, and too many people aren't inclined to contain their dogs.

Judy I'm glad that your active rest week is helping you.

Diane Sue I often forget what workouts Cathe puts burpees in and though I can do them she clearly likes them a lot more than I do. LOL

Today I did a 45-minute Peloton Ride, just watching YouTube so low intensity. I also did 15 minutes of PT work.

Diane Sue-Great job with Fit Split Boxing Bootcamp Legs and Glutes.

Carolyn-Great job with P30 Perfect Pump Upper Body.

Valerie-That’s a good idea to carry a can of bear spray in your water bottle cage.

Cathy-Great job with LMR2 Cardio x 2.

Judy we put a liner of bubble foam inside the bottle cage so the bear spray doesn't rattle constantly. I keep a can on my road bike and my mt bike. where we mt bike we have run into unleashed dogs. lots of people horseback ride and their dogs are always loose. weve never had a problem. when we run into horses we stop and get off unless the riders tell us different. horse people have right of way. their dogs are usually under decent voice control, weve never had a dog get aggressive. bear spray is terrible stuff to get in your face. i would have to be very threatened before I would use it on a dog. I have done it though.

I did Stacked upper body for the first time in a month. I've been doing some things along with my stretching but have slacked off on formal workouts. I just went thru the workout once rather than twice . will see if i get sore.

Today I did A Senior Shape Cardio and Arm workout with light weights, 24 minutes, 110 calories, heart rate 110/136. I then did Senior Shape Upper Body Strength workout 24 minutes, 111 calories, heart rate 105/149. I used mostly 12# dumbbells except overhead press moves where I used 10's. She did some different moves on this and it was a good workout. I finished with standing active recovery and stretch, 15 minutes, 56 calories. Total time was 63 minutes, 277 calories.

Carolyn, nice job on Perfect Pump Upper Body.

Valerie, good job getting in Stacked Upper Body. I don't think my German Shepherd dog mix would chase after anyone on a bike. He would run the opposite direction. A car pulls in the driveway and he goes in the house asp. I would be nervous riding on the roads.

Cathy, good job on LMR 2 Cardio X 2.

Judy, nice work on Peloton 45 minute ride and PT work.

Today I did Rev’d Up Rumble, 41 minutes, 244 calories, average heart rate 122, and maximum heart rate 169.

Cathy, great job with LMR 2 Cardio.

Judy, nice job with the 45 minute Peloton ride and 15 minutes of PT.

Valerie, it’s good that you were able to do Stacked Sets Upper Body.

Diane Sue, great job with Senior Shape Cardio and Arms, Senior Shape Upper Body Strength, standing active recovery, and stretch.

It is good to be a little nervous on roads. cant be too timid. have been rushed by dogs a number of times. the most dangerous part is losing control and falling or riding off into path of a car. When i grew up there was no such thing as bike paths. I ve been riding a bike since I was less than 5 yrs old! most of that time on roads with traffic. Seattle area has a lot of bike routes, bike lanes. even dedicated bike paths often cross "real" roads. those intersections are risky because cars are supposed to yield to bikes and pedestrians , many have stop signs or lights. not everyone obeys the signs. some folks blow right thru.

I'm glad i did that upper body work yesterday. i am a little sore today so it was definitely too long a lapse. I will do a better job of doing it several times a week.

Today I did CDorner Hiit with a platform cardio workout, 35 minutes, 205 calories, HR 127/169 and Senior Shape Chair Yoga Upper Mobility Stretch with some added lower body stretches, 25 minutes, 70 calories. Total time 60 minutes, 275 calories.

Yesterday I did Live MRT Express which is all compound moves. Really keeps the heart rate up. Today I did the LMR2 Balance workout. Cleaned out the car, checked oil, added washer fluid. Fun stuff. Started making lists.
